[pt] Esta pesquisa pretende lançar alguma luz sobre o imaginário que a Argentina construiu sobre o Brasil. Para tanto, traçamos um paralelo entre a formação do Eu na psicanálise e a construção da identidade nacional. Ademais, apontamos as visões internas que embasaram ou construíram o discurso da identidade nacional brasileira, a fim de comparar tais concepções com as que os argentinos expressaram sobre o Brasil em suas literaturas. Tratamos igualmente da relação especular entre os dois países através dos processos de projeções-identificações imaginárias. / [en] This paper attempts to shed some light on the imaginary Brazil that Argentina has constructed in its literature. To start, the research draws a parallel between the formation of the ego in psychoanalysis and the construction of national identity. Furthermore, the work compares the internal views that built and supported the discourse of the national Brazilian identity with the external views of Brazil expressed by Argentinean writers. The analysis focuses on the process of projections and projective identification in the construction of the Other.

[pt] Inês de Castro: relicário da Saudade é uma dissertação que discute aspectos histórico-culturais da simbologia da saudade advinda do episódio dos amores de Pedro e Inês de Castro. Pela força da criação literária - capaz de transformar a História - fatos e ficções envolveram-se em brumas. Passados 650 anos da morte da mísera e mesquinha, o Ano Inesiano da Cultura reavivou reflexões em torno de questões como Alma Nacional, Identidade Cultural e Sentimento Português. No presente estudo, privilegiar-se-ão alguns textos históricos, filosóficos e líricos portugueses, que abordam aspectos de uma cultura que faz da Saudade a sua força vital. / [en] Ines de Castro: Myth and Memory (original title Ines de Castro: relicário da Saudade) is an essay that intends to discuss description- cultural aspects of saudade symbology from the love affair between Pedro and Ines de Castro. By the force of the literary creation - capable to transform History - facts and fictions had been involved in mists. Passed 650 years of the death of poor and stingy, the Inesiano Year of Culture revived reflections around the National Soul, Cultural Identity and Portuguese Feeling, contents of a culture that makes saudade its reward.

[pt] Umas histórias outras de João Goulart: a construção de um personagem no teatro da política brasileira é um ensaio - em que narração e descrição foram mescladas com a escrita argumentativa - sobre a trajetória enigmática do ex-presidente João Goulart, do Golpe de 64 até sua morte no exílio, em 1976. O palco político onde Jango atuou serve de objeto a esta dissertação não para investigar sua dimensão histórica, mas com o propósito de revelar e analisar criticamente a trama de discursos que tentaram desvendar essa trajetória, os quais estão instalados em estatutos diferentes. São eles: o fabulista, utilizado pelo cineasta Glauber Rocha, o memorialista, pelo antropólogo Darcy Ribeiro, o epistolar, pelo próprio Jango, o oficial, pelo governo da Ditadura Militar, o informativo, pela imprensa, e, ainda, o ficcional/jornalístico, pela autora da dissertação, que, ao incluir um texto com sua própria assinatura, no corpus textual da pesquisa, pretendeu evidenciar a orientação auto-identificadora e auto-reflexiva da mesma. A perspectiva teórica com a qual se trabalhou foi a de que os relatos do governo e da imprensa, enquanto propostas de verdade conclusiva, são apenas reativos e não correspondem ao poder que exerceram, na circunstância de sua divulgação. De acordo com essa visão, a força especulativa só existe na atividade fabuladora, isto é, só a arte e os discursos claramente interessados é que ativam os signos do passado, tornando-os passíveis de desvendamento, ao mesmo tempo em que se prestam a reflexões que servem para entender o presente. / [en] João Goulart s Other Histories: Character Development on Brazil s Political Stage is an essay - and as such its style is a combination of narration, description, and argumentative or academic prose - which chronicles the path of Brazilian former president João Goulart starting the 1964 coup until his death in exile in 1976. Jango s political setting, as well as the role he plays in it, serves here not as a means of assessing his historical standing, but rather as an object whose purpose is to unveil and critically scrutinize the discourse networks and webs elicited by the former president s political path. These discursive webs appear in a wide variety of categories: there is the storyteller s point of view as seen in the works of filmmaker Glauber Rocha; the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro s memorialist take; Jango s own epistolary writings; the official version supported by the members of the dictatorial regime; the documental or journalistic disseminated by the media. Finally, in addition to these categories is the fictional/journalistic style adopted by the author of this dissertation as she opts to include an essay bearing her own signature into the corpus of her research. Her intent at doing so: locating and acknowledging her awareness of her stance vis a vis the subject at hand. The present research operates under one theoretical assumption: that official documents and press materials, far from being actual conclusive facts, are mainly reactive in nature. In other words, over the years they have lost their claim to truth. Subscribing to these views, this essay contends that speculation into the past is only achievable if combined with the ability to generate narratives, be these fictional or not. Only imbued with self-reflexive discourse and only within the sphere of art would one be able to activate signs of the past - thus rendering them not only intelligible but capable of eliciting reflection and of offering clues to understanding the present.

[pt] A presente dissertação de mestrado, Elementos teóricos para o ensino da literatura, tem por objetivo uma compreensão do fenômeno literário que transcende a sua configuração textual, em vista de uma atualização do ensino da literatura em escolas de Nível Médio. Para alcançar este fim, a pesquisa analisa ferramentas teóricas desenvolvidas pela Estética da Recepção e pela chamada Ciência Empírica da Literatura, avaliando a oportunidade de transferir os seus modelos para o espaço escolar, como estratégia pedagógica inovadora capaz de revigorar o próprio ensino. Neste sentido, a dissertação pretende oferecer caminhos de mediação entre uma tradição ainda vigente e propostas de renovação no campo da didática com respeito ao fenômeno literário e suas formas de historiografia. / [en] The present M.A. thesis, Theoretical elements on literature teaching, aims at understanding the literary phenomenon which transcends its textual configuration. It keeps in sight the update of literature teaching in high school (medium level). In order to achieve such goal, this research analyses theoretical tools developed by the Reception Aesthetics and the so called Empiric Science of Literature. It evaluates the opportunity of transferring those models to the space of the school, as an innovative pedagogical strategy capable of renewing the act of teaching. In such sense, this thesis intends to offer ways to deal with a still present tradition and the renewal proposals in the field of didactics concerning the literary phenomenon and its historiography.

[pt] Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Poeta pertencente ao modernismo português e um dos criadores da revista Orpheu, apresenta em sua obra poética aspectos que revelam uma profunda angústia existencial. Em nossa pesquisa, trabalharemos a estranheza e a inadaptação do Poeta frente ao mundo, que redundará, em seus Últimos poemas, na auto-rejeição violenta e dolorosa. Centraremos nossa atenção em algumas imagens insistentemente repetidas na sua poesia como a do labirinto, a do desnorteamento do eu-lírico. Abordaremos, também, a sensação de incompletude - o eterno quase -, marca indelével de sua poesia. / [en] Mário de Sá-Carneiro, portuguese poet and writer, was one of the founders of the magazine Orpheu, which started the Modernism movement in Portugal. In this paper, we will deal with the poet´s feelings of awkwardness and strangeness before the world, particularly present in the imagery of his Last Poems (Últimos Poemas) which reflect his painful and violent self rejection. The frequently recurrring image of the labyrinth and the misdirection of the lyrical self will be tackled as well. In doing so, we will attempt to approach the sense of incompleteness and the perennial almost (quase) - an indelible feature of Mário de Sá-Carneiro poetry.

[pt] Os conceitos de belo e sublime em Schiller, apoiados numa estética kantiana, conduziram a filosofia para uma possibilidade de educação estética do homem, responsável pela plena liberdade e realização da vontade humanas. Dentro desse panorama, disposto a traçar um caminho de representação na arte dessa liberdade humana, Schiller propõe o conceito de tragédia moderna. Sobre seus fundamentos e sobre o seu propósito de repensar a poética da tragédia se debruçará essa dissertação. Em que medida a tragédia schilleriana é, de fato, capaz de definir o trágico e libertar o homem? / [en] Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller s conceptions of the beautiful and the sublime - unquestionably influenced by Kantian Aesthetics - have conducted Philosophy to a possibility of aesthetic formation/education of individuals. This possibility has endowed them to attain complete autonomy in regards to their exercise of freedom and free will. It is within this context that Schiller, determined to represent this newfound notion of human autonomy in art, fosters his notion of modern tragedy. It is the purpose of this dissertation to study and scrutinize Schiller s groundings and intent to transform the notion of tragedy. The present investigation shall attempt to answer such questions as till what point is Schillerean tragedy indeed able to define the concept of -the tragic-, and render individuals free?

[pt] A dissertação pretende demonstrar que a telenovela Roque Santeiro pode ser vista como uma forma eletrônica das antigas festas saturnais romanas e como um desfile de carnaval eletrônico. Roque Santeiro, escrita por Dias Gomes e apresentada pela Rede Globo de Televisão, em 1985, seria uma glorificação da vida e da morte, além de ser uma discussão sobre o mito e sua necessidade na sociedade contemporânea. Pretende ainda demonstrar que Dias Gomes foi, acima de tudo, inclusive de sua alardeada opção política pelos desfavorecidos, um escritor que não fazia concessões no seu texto. O presente trabalho tem como base teórica os conceitos formulados por Bakhtin quanto à carnavalização. / [en] This dissertation intends to demonstrate in what way the Brazilian soap opera ROQUE SANTEIRO can be viewed as an electronic standard of the ancient Roman Saturn Parties. It can be viewed yet as an electronic carnival parade, as well. ROQUE SANTEIRO, written by Dias Gomes, and broadcasted by Rede Globo in 1985, highlights a kind of glorification of life and death. Besides, it analyses the discussion about myths and their role in a modern society. This work deals yet with Dias Gomes itself, and how he was, above all, a writer who had strong political positions, most of them to benefit the poor people. Moreover, he was a writer who didn`t make exceptions in his texts and plays. The study is based on concepts and theories by Bakhtin, related to carnavalização.

[pt] Esta tese trata da produção crítico-literária de Machado de Assis em sua interlocução com o debate letrado brasileiro oitocentista, em especial, na década de 1870, momento de efervescência do discurso de modernidade. A hipótese central é que Machado estabelece, com a discussão brasileira, uma relação de apropriação e recusa que lhe permite, de um lado, identificar uma herança literária brasileira comum a ser continuamente mobilizada no presente, o pecúlio, e de outro, deslocar-se da referência nacionalista preponderante nas letras brasileiras, que impõe a nacionalidade como valor literário. Nos termos de Silvio Romero, nos anos 1870, um bando de ideias novas circula no ambiente letrado brasileiro, movidas por um novo repertório intelectual europeu, reivindicando, a partir deste, uma ruptura temporal ante os pressupostos do Romantismo. A análise machadiana sobre esse contexto pode ser encontrada em três textos, que servirão como eixos norteadores da tese: Notícia atual da literatura brasileira: Instinto de Nacionalidade, de 1873; A nova geração, de 1879 e Eça de Queirós: o Primo Basílio, de 1878. Com eles, e contando com o acúmulo de sua produção crítica anterior, Machado elucida os problemas a serem encaminhados pela tese, cuja articulação se encontra em uma compreensão nacionalista e historicizada do conceito literatura, comum a românticos e a nova geração de 1870: o desejo de criar uma literatura mais independente, vinculada a uma experiência do tempo, que considera a particularidade do presente como espaço possível de ruptura; a relação brasileira com o processo histórico exterior e anterior, tido como tempo da civilização, que requisita, para as ideias brasileiras, um esforço de contínua atualização ante a Europa; a associação entre literatura e realidade, conveniente aos usos éticos conferidos à literatura no debate brasileiro. / [en] The thesis deals with the production of literary-critical Machado de Assis in his dialogue with nineteenth-century Brazilian literary debate, especially in the 1870s, a time of ferment of discourse of modernity. The central hypothesis is that the discussion with Machado Brazilian states a relationship of ownership and refusal that allows one side to identify a common literary heritage Brazilian continually being mobilized in this, the annuity, and another move from the leading reference in the nationalist Brazilian letters, which imposes nationality and literary value. To use the expression consecrated by Silvio Romero, in the 1870s a bunch of new ideas circulating on the literate environment in Brazil, powered by a new European intellectual repertoire, claiming from this, a break before the temporal assumptions of Romanticism. The analysis Machado on this context can be found in three texts, which serve as guiding principles of the thesis: Noticia atual da literatura brasileira: Instinto de Nacionalidade (1873); A nova geração (1879 ) e Eça de Queirós: o Primo Basílio (1878). With these and relying on the accumulation of its production earlier critique, Machado elucidates the problems to be referred by the theory, whose articulation is in a historicized understanding of the concept literature, common and new romantics of 1870: the desire to create a literature more independently linked to an experience of time considering the peculiarity of this area as possible rupture, and the relationship with the Brazilian historical process outside and above, taken as a time of civilization, ordering Brazilian ideas for a continuous effort to update, the association between literature and reality, convenient to use given to the ethical debate in Brazilian literature.

[pt] Este trabalho analisa as modificações na experiência do tempo no Brasil, na primeira metade do século XIX. Para tanto, são estudadas as transformações nos conceitos de história e literatura, com ênfase nas formas de enquadramento do mundo luso-brasileiro nas narrativas da modernidade. Argumenta-se que, ao longo da década de 1830, consolidou-se um conjunto de modificações conceituais marcadas pela historicização do campo discursivo e a conseqüente descontinuidade na experiência do tempo vivenciada pela geração dos fundadores do Império. / [en] This dissertation deals with the changes in the experience of time in Brazil during the first half of the 19th century. Therefore, concepts as history and literature are studied, with special emphasis on the ways in which the Luso-Brazilian world was arranged in the narratives of modernity. It is argued that throughout the 1830s decade a series of fundamental concepts are historicized. This process led to a discontinuity in the experience of time performed by the generation of the Brazilian Empire founders.

[pt] O objetivo deste trabalho é propor uma leitura de Lavoura arcaica de Raduan Nassar pautada pelo reconhecimento de suas tensões formais e ideológicas, bem como pelo contexto social e cultural em que a obra se engendra. Levando em conta o caráter de exceção da prosa nassariana no cenário da literatura da década de 70, preferimos partir de uma leitura pautada pelas coordenadas estéticas do neobarroco - uma forte tendência artística latino-americana , cujo apogeu é contemporâneo do romance em questão. Tomando o partido de autores como Lezama Lima, Severo Sarduy, Alejo Carpentier e Irlemar Chiampi acreditamos em uma possível leitura barroca do romance, utilizando o conceito benjaminiano de alegoria à título de ilustração e aprofundamento interpretativo do mesmo. Nosso primeiro passo é apresentar a problemática neobarroca para em seguida debruçar-se sobre a obra propriamente dita, invertendo (barrocamente) a divisão bipolar do livro - partida e retorno- de modo a salientar o caráter espelhado da análise literária. / [en] The purpose of this thesis is to propose a reading of Raduan Nassar s Lavoura Arcaica which recognizes its formal and ideological tensions, as well as its social and cultural context. Considering the exceptional character of Nassar s prose in the literary scenario of the seventies, we have chosen to place this reading within a neo-baroque aesthetic theory - a very strong Latin American artistic tendency, whose climax is contemporaneous to the author s literary work. Following the line of such authors as Lezama Lima, Severo Sarduy, Alejo Carpentier and Irlemar Chiampi we believe a baroque reading of the fiction is possible. To illustrate the interpretation we have used Benjamin s concept of allegory. Our first step has been to introduce the neo-baroque problem. Next we analyze the work per se (baroquely) inverting the bipolar division in the book - depart and return - in order to highlight the double character of the literary analysis.
