[en] EDUCATIONAL QUALITIES AND HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION: POSSIBILITIES FOR A COUNTER- HEGEMONIC PROPOSAL OF QUALITY / [pt] QUALIDADES EDUCACIONAIS E EDUCAÇÃO EM DIREITOS HUMANOS: POSSIBILIDADES PARA UMA PROPOSTA CONTRA-HEGEMÔNICA DE QUALIDADE

YRAMA SIQUEIRA FERNANDES 21 September 2020 (has links)
[en] This qualitative research aimed at investigating the presence of connections among three themes: educational qualities; Human Rights and Human Rights Education. To achieve this objective, theoretical studies were made and empirical data was collected and analyzed. Concerning Human Rights, this research presents a hegemonic conception and a counter-hegemonic conception. The hegemonic conception privileges authors such as: Dornelles (2018, 2006, 2005); Lindgren Alves (2013, 2000, 1994) and Tosi (2008). Santos (2018, 2013, 2006) and Herrera Flores (2008) bring contributions to the counter – hegemonic conception of Human Rights. Regarding Human Rights Education, this thesis brings Candau (2009), Sacavino (2009) e Monteiro (2005) to present the development of the Human Rights Education in Brazil. The characteristics of Human Rights Education are present through Candau (2009) when she approaches the themes of difference and empowerment. This work also brings Sacavino (2009) when she approaches the education for democracy, the education in order to build subjects of Law and the education for the never more. Concerning the educational quality this thesis presents the development of the educational quality in Brazil through Bonamino and Sousa (2012). Ximenes (2014) and Dourado (2007) contribute for the concepts of educational qualities present in this research. The empirical data was collected in eleven semi-structured interviews with teachers, directors and educational counsellors who work in public schools in Rio de Janeiro e Baixada Fluminense. As a main result, this research concludes that the theoretical studies and the analysis of the empirical data reveal a support for the counter- hegemonic proposal for educational quality this thesis presents. This is a proposal that includes Human Rights and Human Rights Education as basis and therefore is a wider proposal for educational quality.

[en] RESISTANCE AND COUNTER-HEGEMONIC MEMORY: A STUDY ON THE PERMANENCE STRUGGLE OF THE MUSEUM OF MARÉ / [pt] RESISTÊNCIA E MEMÓRIA CONTRA-HEGEMÔNICA: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A LUTA DE PERMANÊNCIA DO MUSEU DA MARÉ

CARLOS AUGUSTO BAPTISTA 21 December 2020 (has links)
[en] There is a process of erasing knowledge production dynamics that emerge from the peripheries, from precarious urban areas, located in Hills, Slums, Villages and Tenements. The present research resumes the efforts of recognition and visibility of these productions, having as their field of study the Museu da Maré and its direct relationship with memory production processes, in different situations and with different social actors, involved in the struggle for the permanence and dynamization of the museal culture in the set of favelas in Tide. The dissertation analyzes the strategies and dynamics of local social movements, through the role of their organic intellectuals, the community leaders who founded one of the first favela museums in the world, in 2006. The Museum of Maré is part of the effort of social museology in questioning traditional museology, giving voice to those who have always been deprived of leading their own stories. His museum project summarizes the socio-historical process of producing the urban space of Maré in 12 stages, by describing the daily lives of its residents. Through participant observation and semi-structured interviews, the present work penetrates the poetics of construction and consolidation of collective, insurgent and counter hegemonic memory in Maré. The fieldwork accompanied the set of activities promoted by the Museum, which reveals an organizational praxis of local memory, in contrast to the forgetfulness generated by the hegemonic production of the urban space of the city of Rio de Janeiro, which produces a city producing anticity.

: En kvalitativ intervjustudie med yrkesverksamma inom skola med syfte att undersöka machokultur / "What if dad sees that i have painted my nails?" : A qualitative interviewstudy with people working in school purposing to study macho culture

Evertsson, Agnes, Pihlkvist, Anton January 2023 (has links)
The following study aims to investigate the concept of macho culture among younger boys in schools. The paper examines the extent to which the concept can be seen as a problem and whether schools are working with the topic. The paper is presented inductively through qualitative data collection based on interview studies. Before that, two theories, hegemonic masculinity and the gender schema theory, which permeate the study's results and analysis. The interview study took place over the course of the thesis and involved eight different professional school counsellors in different municipalities. The data generated was then subjected to thematic analysis where four themes emerged: poor attitudes, difficulties with emotions, limited norms and working methods. The constructed themes are later presented in terms of results, but also as a discussion analysis to highlight the connection with selected theories and previous research. Conclusions relevant to the study include the recognition of macho culture as a problem in the schools where we conducted interviews, the problem of working methods, and the influence of norms and values from home.

A qualitative document analysis on mental illness and the stigma around it

Jimcale, Ammal, Khadka, Ranju January 2022 (has links)
This study is based on a qualitative document analysis aimed at investigating stigma related to mental illness. Mental illness can affect individuals at different levels. This study has been conducted by a qualitative thematic analysis of virtual documents to understand how men and women understand and get affected by the stigma of mental illness. And the various outcomes that the diagnosis of mental illness entails for both men and women. The virtual documents that the study has used are personal stories from Mind. Mind is a website where people who have suffered or are suffering from mental illness write stories about their mental illness. The results of the study showed that most men and women with mental illness suffer from stigma, however there may be differences between how men and women relate to mental illness. Stigmatization and shame about mental illness can be contributing factors to the individual's propensity for help. According to the study, it turned out that there are different factors that can dictate how men and women relate to their mental state.

“Incels aren’t all bad, they're driven from loneliness, to depression, to hatred” : En tematisk analys av incels upplevelser och uppfattning om psykisk ohälsa samt hur den kan hanteras utifrån deras perspektiv / “Incels aren’t all bad, they're driven from loneliness, to depression, to hatred” : A thematic analysis of incels’ experiences, perceptions and management of mental health from their perspective

Çitaku, Durim, Persson, Louice January 2022 (has links)
In recent years, several acts of violence committed by men who identify themselves as involuntarily celibate, so-called incels, have been given international attention. The motivation behind the violence is believed to come from emotions such as sadness, pain, frustration, and loneliness. It is a group that is often associated with depression and isolation. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine incels’ perceptions and management of their mental health. The choice of method is of a qualitative approach where a thematic analysis has been used to increase the understanding of the social reality based on how individuals in the environment perceive it. Based on seven interviews from four documentaries in which men who identify themselves as incels, four thematizations have been distinguished and analyzed using the theory of sense of coherence, stigma theory and masculinity theory. The findings portray a complexity of varied factors contributing to the self-identification and experience of being an incel, as well as the effects of perceiving oneself as such. Mental health issues were prevalent within the group of interviewees and were often mentioned in conjunction with feelings of loneliness, social isolation, and thoughts of suicide. The inability for these men to engage sexually or romantically refers to perceptions and experiences of deficiencies in their masculinity and physical attractiveness, which has led them to adopt controversial and misogynistic worldviews. The misogynistic attitudes that are expressed online in various forums can be seen as a counter-reaction to the experience of being treated unfairly and the feeling of being unwanted. The study concludes that incels need to be acknowledged as a heterogenic group in need of support, rather than a homogenic group of violent and misogynistic men. Further research is encouraged to illuminate and broaden the individual struggles of involuntarily celibate men, since it is still a relatively new area of research. Therefore, it is also of importance and interest in the fields of social work to expand the understanding of incels’ experiences and perceptions towards their own situation, in order to respond to the group in a way that prohibits their further isolation.

Ta det som en man! : En litteraturstudie om kvinnors våld mot män / Take it Like a Man! : A Literature Study on Women’s Violence against Men

Ha, Angela, Seferi, Argnesa January 2022 (has links)
This literature study aims to investigate women’s violence on men. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is well researched within the context of women as victims and men as perpetrators. However, men who fall victim to female-perpetrated IPV is not a known subject to the general public. The study will therefore study men as victims to IPV where women are perpetrators as well different types of violence such as psychological, physical, sexual and digital violence. Men’s experiences as victims of IPV will also touch on their help-seeking experiences which are affected by hegemonic masculinity, stigma and shame. This literature study has used a lot of empirical material that contains qualitative studies from different countries thus making it difficult to draw general conclusions. The purpose is however to discuss the subject in relation to different theories, highlights and understand men's experiences as victims of female-perpetrated IPV.

Storm, Andrea, Karlsson, Ebba January 2023 (has links)

"Riktiga män gråter inte" : En kvalitativ studie om hur maskulinitetsnormer påverkar unga manliga studenter / "Real men don't cry" : A qualitative study about how masculinity norms influence young male students

Ögut, Berfin, Damsaz, Sholeh January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate how male university students between the ages 20-30 discuss their masculinity in relation to societal norms within the Swedish context. We wanted to identify how masculinity norms play out in their day-to-day lives by asking, “How do the young male students reproduce traditional masculinity norms in their daily lives?” and “In what way do the young male students speak about and relate to new masculinity in their daily lives?”. For our data collection we used a qualitative method and conducted 8 interviews with young men that are currently studying at university in different fields. For our theory we used masculinity, socialization, norms and stereotypes. The study results showed that our interviewees  understand and discuss their masculinity as strongly shaped by masculinity norms and stereotypes that they face daily. For example, they gave expression to the pressure they feel to act like “real men” and how problematic it can be when they do not fit in. However, they also challenge these norms as they strive to change them towards a more positive and softer image of masculinity by for example, showing emotions. The conclusion we reached made us think about how influential social structures really are while at the same time they nonetheless can be challenged, which is consistent with previous studies within the field of Men and Masculinities.
