Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Behaviors of School Librarians: Perceptions during Times of Crisis

Gill, Diane 05 1900 (has links)
School librarians create an atmosphere where learners feel empowered. Moreover, school library programming should support diversity, equity, and inclusive learning opportunities to facilitate student success. Thus, school librarians are expected to model and advocate for equitable learning spaces while considering the universal design for learning approach to improving accessibility, utilization, and relevance for all library patrons. Although it has been established that school library standards support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), more is needed to know about the impact of a crisis on school library programming and services. In addition, extensive research has not been conducted to determine school librarians' responsiveness and strategies to provide services for their school communities during disruptive times. This study examines school librarians' perceptions of the opportunities and challenges encountered while endeavoring to engage in DEI practices during crises.

Analyzing How Blended Emotions are Expressed using Machine Learning Methods

Ling, Disen January 2023 (has links)
Blended emotion is a classification of emotional experiences that involve the combination of multiple emotions. Research on the expression of blended emotions allows researchers to understand how different emotions interact and coexist in an individual’s emotional experience. Using machine learning to analyze mixed emotions may indeed bring new insights to the study of blended emotions. This thesis aims to explore blended emotion expression by testing machine learning models (SVM, Decision Tree, and Naive Bayes) trained on the single motion dataset on the blended emotion datasets and vice versa, to analyze the relationship between blended emotions and their constituent emotions. Furthermore, this thesis explores whether there is a dominant emotion in blended emotions and conducts an ablation study to investigate the importance of various facial features within each emotion. The results of testing models’ generalization capabilities propose that blended emotion expressions are highly likely to result from the overlapping combinations of features from their constituent emotions or the combination of some features from one constituent emotion with some from another. Furthermore, based on the dataset used, this thesis also finds that happiness predominated in the blended emotion ’disgust & happiness’. Additionally, an ablation study is conducted to identify the features that have the most significant impact on the accuracy and F1 score of single/pure emotion and blended emotion recognition across various recognition models.

Ehrler, Oscar, Holmén, Anton January 2022 (has links)
The student inclusive Green Raven project of the KTH-Aero faculty requireda small blended wing model of their new flying wing design. The small scalemodel will be used for various flight tests. The goal of this specific project was tocreate an internal structure for the small scale model, including an outer shell.Two-dimensional drawings were created and tested in a simulation software. The model was then drawn in cad. Lastly the wing was strength tested inAnsys mechanical. The beams in the structure are made of Scots pine due toits accessibility and good strength to weight ratio. The outer shell is made outof fiberglass. A quick connection between the wing and the main body wasimplemented for easy transportation. All final testing indicate that the finaldesign had sufficient strength regarding the initial load requirements.

Design of a drone system for maritime search and rescue missions / Utveckling av drönarsystem för eftersök och räddningsuppdrag till havs

Pettersson, Emil January 2020 (has links)
The work summarized in this report aims to investigate how a drone airplane design can be optimized to create a safer and more efficient sea rescue by providing staff with an early picture, performing search missions and aiding communication through visual contact. A flying wing is in theory one of the most efficient designs for a fixed wing aircraft, at the same time as it also offers high structural efficiency for its given size. In this report, an overview of aerodynamics, stability and flying quality for a flying wing is discussed and analysed. XFLR5 was used for this project, and a comparison between the analytical results and wind tunnel test data for a prototype was conducted. A strong correlation was found between the theoretical analyses and the wind tunnel data. A simple control solution using only one set of elevons has been proposed and simulated, resulting in Level 1 dynamic stability for all modes except Dutch-roll (where the drone’s damping is 𝜁𝑑𝑟=0.07 and the requirement for Level 1 is 𝜁𝑑𝑟=0.08). For the range of angle of attack used, the autopilot system will have to trim the drone in flight to achieve stability. As the drone only has one set of control surfaces there will be a loss of efficiency in this scenario, meaning that 𝐶𝐿/𝐶𝐷 = 15.7 for loiter speed of 15 𝑚/𝑠 and 7.9 for full speed at 35 𝑚/𝑠. In regular flight, with a total mass <1 𝑘𝑔, the drone is able to fly at full speed for 214 𝑘𝑚 or loiter for 6.3 ℎ with a battery package of 130 𝑊ℎ. As such, the objective of this project was achieved, and the proposed design met the given requirements.

Exploring Learning Preferences of External Clients in Corporate Training : A thematic and statistical analysis of Ericsson’s Learning Services Department / Utforskar Inlärningspreferenser för Kunder i Företagsutbildning

Skoglund, Amanda January 2024 (has links)
This master thesis project researches the learning preferences of external clients of Ericsson Learning Services Department, focusing on adult corporate training. The purpose is to collect insights and opinions of clients and use their answers as a basis of improvement for updating and developing courses in the future. The project employed a mix method approach to answer the research question, which combined qualitative data collection through interviews and surveys for a thematic analysis and quantitative data collection from former survey results for statistical analyses. Furthermore, a literary study was conducted to support the research process.  The main results from the thematic analysis proved that most external clients preferred an online learning setting or face to face training. Online courses were mostly preferred due to convenience, even if most would agree that a classroom setting is the best setting for optimal learning. Results from the statistical analysis gave few valuable insights. This may depend on how the questions in the survey were asked and therefore the main result of the statistical analysis is how to improve the surveys using the Learning Experience Questionnaire (LEQ).  This project opens possibilities for applications and future research in this area. One suggestion is to conduct a follow-up study where the surveys are updated and tailored to the needs and wants of the external clients which enables a more comprehensive analysis. Furthermore, researching the specific elements of classroom-based learning that external clients find valuable could provide more understanding to further better the online learning experience. These paths of further research can contribute to the ongoing improvement of adult corporate learning.
