Valet av böcker i förskolan : En intervjustudie om hur förskollärare väljer ut böcker

Thomsen, Carl, Landström Jacobsson, Linnea January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to highlight the reasoning behind the bookchoices made by kindergarden teachers in a kindergarden enviroment.Through semi structured interviews we explore the reasoning for thethoughts behind the books being picked to be a part of the availableselection for the children and the teachers to work with. The reasonings anddilemmas presented is put in relations to the sociocultural perspective andthe associated concepts such as mediation, remediation and cultural tools aswell as the curiculum and goal-directed education. The thematic analysisshows that the reasonings behind the book choices mostly depend on theinterests of the children, either through the individual or group perspective. The results shines a light on the complex reasonings behind selecting booksto use, it’s limitations and possibilities when it comes to them being thefoundation of the education. In summary, the study shows that thekindergarden teacher’s perspectives about the election revolves around thechildrens interests a majority of the time. Their reasonings depends onfactors such as themes or projects, the age of the children, their interests andneeds as well as the kindergarden teacher’s interpretations of said interestsand needs. Since the reasonings cover vastly different lines of though, thestudy illuminates a wide overview on how they navigate the book selection.

Choosing audiobooks : Storytel users’ selection of audiobooks

Melander, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
The main objective for this study was to explore Storytel users’ selection of audiobooks to examine what search strategies and relevance aspects emerge in the relation to a digital book streaming service mobile application, and to examine how this application aids and influences its users in the search and selection of audiobooks. With the help of previous research on book selection and the concepts of search strategies and tactics, as well as the user-centered perspective on relevance and the concept of the digital paratext, five interviews with audiobook readers were analysed. The two major search approaches were known item search and browsing. The major difference compared to previous research on book selection was the new, additional component of the performing narrator. The narrator did not provide any new relevance aspects to the already identified in earlier studies, but rather, proved to be a component spread out on the already identified relevance aspects. Compared to previous research, the author of this study would, however, like to emphasis the relevance aspect of variation. The fact emerged that the readers used the book(s) read previously as a reference, but not necessarily as something they wanted more of or something similar to, but as something they liked something different from. In this desire for variation, the Storytel’s browsing and recommendations’ functions seemed to fall short and the context of the social world outside the app broke in as a helpful aspect of the audiobook selection.

The relevance of popular English language fiction to Black adult readers in libraries affiliated to the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Library Services.

Gallagher, Joan. January 1997 (has links)
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Library Services (KZNPLS) is attempting to address the reading needs of black adult users neglected during the apartheid era. The provision of popular adult English fiction, which consumes a considerable portion of the KZNPLS book budget, has catered for the recreational reading tastes of a small, educated, predominantly white group. This study explores whether popular adult English fiction has a role to play in the reading needs of black adult users in libraries affiliated to KZNPLS. An exploratory survey using the semi-structured interview was conducted in black libraries affiliated to KZNPLS to investigate whether there was an interest in popular English fiction and whether it was assisting readers to develop English language reading skills. The findings of the survey suggested that needs were very broad. However, basic literacy material was the most needed, and popular English fiction was playing a significant role in improving English language reading skills and fluency. The study suggests that if transformation and development is to take place in South Africa, the country's inhabitants must cultivate the critical thinking skills necessary for full utilisation of information technology. The oral tradition is not sufficient for South Africa's information needs but should be incorporated into a synergic union with global information systems. Reading has an established role to play in the development of critical thinking skills but South Africa lacks a strong reading culture. The fostering of English-language reading ability is appropriate as English is the lingua franca of South Africa and the foremost language of technology. The structure of much popular English fiction has transcultural appeal due to its use of archetypal formulas. Popular English fiction provides reading motivation but has a controversial history due to elitist condemnations of its literary quality. To overcome the debate of whether libraries should prefer literary merit or popularity in their fiction collections, it is recommended that diversity be the touchstone and that readers be given full opportunity to indulge in the free voluntary reading that provides fertile ground for the cultivation of critical thinking skills. / Thesis (M.I.S.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 1997.

Högläsning som språkutvecklande verktyg för elever med svenska som andraspråk. : En kvalitativ studie om hur åtta lärare arbetar språkutvecklande med högläsning för elever med svenska som andraspråk i lågstadiet / Reading aloud as a language development tool for students with Swedish as a second language

Altoon, Shaima January 2023 (has links)
This qualitative study aims to expand knowledge about how primary school teachers can use read-aloud to stimulate the language development of students with Swedish as a second language by investigating how eight primary school teachers include a second language perspective in read-aloud activities. Data for this study was gathered using semi-structured personal interviews. The results revealed that teachers employ read-aloud practices in various ways and to varying degrees, but all of them incorporate it at some point. The majority of teachers consider visual support and explaining words and sentences to be important. Furthermore, they also emphasized the significance of discussions about the language and the content of the reading material. They highlighted that the choice of read-aloud books plays a pivotal role and both the content and the linguistic level of the book should be considered. It is also beneficial for the chosen book to be culturally relevant and resonate with the students' backgrounds.

”Man kan inte läsa bara för att man kan tala” : En studie om årskurs ett-elevers föreställningar om läsning och bokval / ”You can’t read just because you can speak” : A study of grade one pupils’ conceptions of reading and book selections

Olsson, Victoria January 2015 (has links)
The aim of the study is to investigate what pupils in grade 1 think about reading aloud, reading alone, the selection of books, and the significance of reading. A subsidiary aimwas to examine the relation between the pupils’ experiences of reading in the home andtheir ability to discuss a text they have read. A sidetrack in the study aimed to see whether the pupils’ experiences of reading in the home affected their outlook on readingin general. The empirical material is linked in the discussion to earlier research on topics such as learning to read and the significance of reading aloud. The discussion also establishes a parallel to theories of literary envisionment. The methods for thestudy were observation of a book conversation and group interviews with four pupils who had taken part in that conversation. The selection of informants was based on their actions during the book conversation, which led to the selection of two pupils who wereperceived as being more active and two who were less active. The study shows that the informants have a positive attitude both to reading aloud and to reading alone, and three of four prefer reading on their own. In the choice of books it is clear that the pictures are very significant for the pupils. All the pupils say that reading is important and three of the interviewed pupils link the significance of reading to jobs and school, while the fourth drew a parallel to the importance of reading in everyday life.

Co čteme dětem předškolního věku doma a v mateřské škole / Reading to Young Children at Home and in Kindergarten

Kubecová, Markéta January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to discover what kinds of books are the preschool children read by both their parents and their preschool teachers. The theoretical part defines the preliteracy of the readers and the preschool age, and describes the children's contact with books both at home and at kindergartens. Defines a book in the terms of a medium being in contrast to other communication means. The practical part is based on a mixed design of the research: the quantitative part uses the method of a questionnaire, and the qualitative part draws on the in-depth interviews, the respondents being the parents and preschool education teachers. At first, the questionnaires are compared. The decisive factors in parents and preschool educators selection of the books are characterized afterwards. The children are most frequently read storybooks and bedtime stories. Preschool teachers read out fables, parents do not. Furthermore, parents read out adventure literature. Thus, the parents and the school complement each other. Both at home and at school, children come into contact with prose as well as fiction. Adults prefer to read out older books, published mostly by Albatros Publishing, or they lend books in a library. At the same time, they carefully choose new titles of various publishing companies, for...
