No. of bitstreams: 1 Regina Helena Terlizzi.pdf: 1030683 bytes, checksum: 643882a701a65758ca594f16d9596dc4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-04 / The Corpus Hippocraticum or Hippocratic Collection brings together a group of Greek medical treatises from V and IV centuries BC, among which we find the register of fundamental speeches from Hippocratic authors in defense of the existence of medical activity as art in Greek culture. The diversity of problems and the intensity of polemics from epistemological nature should be comprehended in the context of an intense intellectual activity, which reaches several domains of human knowledge and which characterizes the so-called Pericles century. In order to establish medicine as art, Hippocraticals must present the basis of the method which enabled them the advance in knowledge of natural causes for human diseases. As such knowledge supposes a series of notions elaborated by philosophy, cause (aitia) and nature (physis), there is an interweaving of matters and theories which positively brings both knowledge fields closer, until the point in which a categorical medical divergence is installed related to the philosophical method. The polemics, as the treatises certify, end up opposing, on one hand, those who defend the insertion of philosophical assumptions in medicine, according to which it could not go on without previous knowledge regarding human nature and the elements which constitute it; on the other hand, those who affirm that the existence of an old medicine which long ago could find its own means of investigation, therefore, should be considered standalone related to philosophy. As to better know the arguments level involved in these discussions, we will analyze four Hippocratic treatises where epistemological matter are approached in a more specific way: On the sacred disease, The art, On ancient medicine, On the nature of man / O Corpus Hippocraticum ou Coleção Hipocrática reúne um conjunto de tratados médicos gregos dos sécs.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Rafael Sacramento de Souza.pdf: 708677 bytes, checksum: 4d0c592056938c2477bf8491f0c6b78d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-07-28 / SUMMARY: The purpose of this dissertation is to show that the Aristotelian conception of knowledge, formulated in the book De Anima, is perfectly compatible with the design of the first philosophy as "science sought" as it appears in the book called Metaphysics. Indeed, the "science sought" is presented in four ways: 1) science of causes and principles; 2) science of being as being; 3) theory of substance and 4) theological science. The science that performs excellently the natural desire to know, which features "all men", is called first philosophy because it deals with the causes and principles of being as being in its entirety. This science, according to Aristotle, responds to the problem that "since ancient times, as now and always, is the eternal object of research and the eternal problem, ‘what is being’ [that] amounts to this: ‘what is the substance'". The answer to this problem begins by answering the question about what is the substance in general and concludes with the answer to the question about which kind of substances do exist. The theological science that demonstrates the existence of a super sensible substance, eternal and unmoved, cause and principle of being as being, is the zenith of the first philosophy and proof of the unity of the four ways in which it is presented / RESUMO: O objetivo da presente dissertação é mostrar que a concepção aristotélica do conhecimento, formulada no De Anima, é perfeitamente compatível com a concepção da filosofia primeira como “ciência buscada”, tal como aparece na obra Metafísica.

We will review several of his texts, from Critique of Reason Cynical to "The revolution of the giving hand", heuristically collecting formulations and discussions that allow us to propose a reading of his political thought as a battle for the possibilities of being in the world. In this scenario we will try to explain certain aspects of his thought on the existence in terms of spherology, that means, from the political-psychological perspective that derives from the relations between the principles of anthropotechnics and thymotics. At the same time, considering that Sloterdijk’s thought on the coming into being results from a process of constituting oneself in reference to a set of social and historically determined practices, we will apply these tools to explicit some aspects of Sloterdijk’s reading of this government of the many, which we call today by the name of representative democracy, especially through the processes of creation of both belonging ties and possibilities of existence / O presente trabalho investiga determinados temas de filosofia política desenvolvidos pelo pensador alemão Peter Sloterdijk, nomeadamente aqueles relacionados à formação de laços de pertencimento coletivo e de mecanismos sociais de fala e audição na esfera pública, considerados instâncias criadoras de mundos habitáveis por humanos.

Artistotle says that happiness (eudaimonia) is this good that we all seek in life and, therefore, is the end to which all things desired by man tend. For Aristotle, eudaimonia is the successful accomplishment of the human being viewed as a rational political animal. Thus, the man is happy when performing the purpose for which he exists, i.e., when performing the work (érgon) of its own. This study, which focuses on the part of the Nicomachean Ethics that became known as “The treaty of virtue” (Books I-IV), aims at understanding the design and place that occupies eudaimonia in the ethics of Aristotle. Therefore, we investigate some concepts of Aristotelian ethics closely linked with his conception of eudaimonia. In conclusion to the paper, we present a recent debate that has become paradigmatic in studies of Aristotelian ethics. This is the debate between the positions of two great contemporary Aristotelians, Hardie and Ackrill on the conception of eudaimonia as a supreme good, to be understood as an inclusive one (Hardie) or a dominant one of all the others (Ackrill) / A ética aristotélica se articula a partir da investigação de qual é o bem supremo do homem e o fim a que tendem todas as coisas.

It goes through the historical exposition of the events and phenomena prior to totalitarianism: the antisemitism due to the emancipation and Jew’s assimilation by the European society; and the colonial and continental imperialism. The first one, serving European countries in search of new consumer markets, develops ways of domination (racism and bureaucracy) serving to the ideology and to the totalitarian government; the second one deals with the rise of national movements, as well as the unfeasibility of protecting human rights against the nation-state. It also shows the differentiation among the totalitarian government and other ways of tyranny and dictatorship by the treatment given to the totalitarian leader, by the action of his secret police, the government unusual structure, the ideology based on History's and/or Nature' laws, the terror as a guarantee of application of these laws and by the concentration camps as an experiment of man’s total domination. It also deals with the human's superfluity promoted in totalitarianism by the death of the juridical person, of the moral person and destruction of the individuality and by the complete ruin of the human content / Este trabalho pretende fazer uma apresentação do totalitarismo e da superfluidade dos homens dele decorrente, desenvolvida por Hannah Arendt, prioritariamente em sua obra “Origens do totalitarismo”.

Descartes sought to formulate philosophical basis to secure the understanding and practice of experimental science of the XVII century. To accomplish the intent of this research was to carry out an analysis of Cartesian thinking in terms of its historical context. The philosopher then sets out the need to find the structure of the thinking subject, (res cogitans), and later in proposing a truthful God, the rational capacity to ensure truth in scientific method. Our conclusion is that the Cartesian philosophy has, through rational and analytical function to make clear what is confusing. This research is carried from the assumptions contained in the Meditations metaphysical propositions as secure bases and philosophical foundations sufficient for the knowledge and practice of modern science / A presente dissertação buscou investigar o percurso intelectual do filósofo moderno René Descartes para fundamentar uma nova teoria do conhecimento em face da emergência da modernidade.

This presentation will be made by examining the texts of the author in which one can find a specific discussion on the topic. To reach the goal of this study, the first topic which is dealt with is the political and religious relationship amongst ancient civilizations; then one discusses the criticisms made by Rousseau to Christianity as a political form dissolved in national religions. Finally, one presents the issues proposed by the author in order to solve the contradictions presented by religious rules cited.

Foucault e Deleuze: deserções, micropolíticas, resistências / Foucalt and Deleuze: desertion, micropolitics, resistances

Generally, those who think it like a historical period and not only an aesthetic tendency indicates at least two important features: first, the victory of the ephemeral and the banality against the critical power of the modernity and, second, the new modulation or mutation of the postwar capitalism. Another direction taken by contemporary debate characterizes our times by the emergence of a new sovereign power, which makes the state of emergency a rule and turns the concentration camp into to a paradigm of government. In both cases, the resistances were subjected to silence or placed in the background. To approach the problem we propose the following question: how the resistances occur in the post-modern times? However, we must add to the problem an inflection inspired by Deleuze: how to think a resistance in itself, apart of the categories of negative? It was necessary to investigate the notion of resistance, especially in the writings of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze and, in this way, determine his contributions, disagreements and meetings around the concept. We attempt to think the resistance in themselves, freeing them from exogenous factors that determine their dynamics and observing its affirmative power. We conclude that the resistances contain, by one hand, defectors and micropolitical aspects, which are primary in relation to power, and, by another hand, connectives and inventive characteristics / A lista de hipóteses sobre a pós-modernidade é extensa.

We will start from the body-soul duality introduced, at the beginning of Platonic philosophy, with epistemic purposes. We will investigate the deepening of this dichotomy as a result of the crystallization from an increasingly systematic exploration through philosophy and in the function of the advancement of Christianity which, appropriating this Platonic duality, derived in moral ramifications that radically split the Western man. We will try to follow the clues of the physiological motivations that led and lead men to accept this weakening perspective of singularities, adhering to the herd culture. We will reflect on the role of consciousness in maintaining this fracture. We will approach the relations of forces involved in this process and how much Nietzsche brought from the physiology, and more broadly from biology, scientific contents that gave physiological and discursive consistency to his perspective of the wills of power in permanent struggle in the multiplicity of organisms that compose the living body. We will ask with Nietzsche how the relations of domination in philosophical production are given, and why a certain force once imposed metaphysical rationality as a sure path to knowledge, banishing the body from this course and from that goal. After all, let us echo the philosopher's recommendation, repeated several times: to interrupt this cycle and to restart philosophy through the body / Nesta dissertação, propomos uma reflexão sobre o papel destinado ao corpo pela filosofia na produção de pensamento e na construção de conhecimento.

Peirce (1839 – 1914), addressing it as a fundamental idea in his work. As we have understood, the concept is not only important to comprehend Peirce’s philosophy, but it also structures his thought. In other words, we can understand this great, complex and vivid philosophy, as well as the classification of its branches, based on the “growth of concrete reasonableness”. Therefore, we have looked for the bedrocks of this idea in Peircean Phenomenology, Normative Sciences and Metaphysics. We will see that the idea of an incarnated reasonableness in the Universe, active and always growing, leads us directly to the heart of Peirce’s philosophy: pragmaticism, realism and the strong negation of any nominalist, individualistic and dogmatic ideals whatsoever / A pesquisa investiga o conceito de "crescimento da razoabilidade concreta" na filosofia do pragmaticista norte-americano Charles S. Peirce (1839 – 1914), tratando-o como ideia fundamental de sua obra.
