The impact of the digital tool Zoom on students’ motivation and engagement : Focusing on students from the faculty of Technology and Society at Malmo university.

Meyer Ghateh, Sarah, Nise, Josefine January 2021 (has links)
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic Malmö University had to transfer most of their educations to be carried out digitally in March 2020. The university, teachers and students were quickly forced to adapt to the new situation without further preparation. Zoom quickly became the video conferencing tool that several universities came to use in the transition to digital studies, which Malmö University also chose to use. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the students at the faculty of Technology and Society felt that their motivation and engagement had been affected since the digital transition. This was explored through the research question: “How is the motivation and engagement of students affected when attending lectures through the digital tool Zoom?”. The study examined how students experienced Zoom's perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, their study motivation and finally their engagement in the form of participation. The methods used in the study were observations and a questionnaire survey. The conclusions of the study were that the students felt that Zoom was easy to use, but not as useful and that the students' motivation and engagement had been negatively affected. Finally, the conclusion also indicated that study motivation had a correlation with perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and engagement. But engagement only had a correlation with perceived ease of use and motivation.

A wiki-based process writing approach to academic writing in an ODL institution

Sehlodimela, Catherine Tshegofatso 11 1900 (has links)
Writing, an important academic skill for university students to acquire, becomes more important in a distance education institution where assessment is primarily on written work. Successful teaching and learning practices for Open Distance Learning (ODL) incorporate multiple forms of interaction when using technology within a constructivist approach. The study seeks to understand students’ perceptions of wikis within a process writing approach, and the suitability of Web 2.0 technology for tasks designed to teach academic writing. A participatory action research design was selected as it merges social action and research to solve educational problems while increasing human understanding of the phenomena. The findings show that students may be open to using wikis within their actual learning environment. Of significance was the issue of the early integration and engagement of students into online learning communities. The challenges experienced in the study can be addressed adapting Chickering and Ehrmann’s (1996) principles to frame the development of online learning. / Teaching Practice Unit / M.A. (TESOL)

Empirical Examination of User Acceptance of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems in the United States

Oldacre, Rohan 01 January 2016 (has links)
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are complex software packages that support an integrated real-time setting among the various business functions in an entire organization. ERP systems improve productivity, but only to the extent that employees accept and use the systems extensively to perform their duties. The leaders of many organizations have not been able to realize the expected benefits because of a lack of user acceptance. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional survey study was to examine the factors that influence user acceptance of ERP systems in the United States. Davis's technology acceptance model was the theoretical foundation used to relate the independent variables (perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) to the dependent variable (user acceptance of ERP systems). The focus of the research questions was on the strength of the relationships between each of the independent variables and user acceptance of ERP systems in the United States. Data were from 97 purposively selected ERP system end users in the United States using the survey instrument based on the technology acceptance model. Regression and correlation analyses revealed a positive relationship between perceived usefulness and user acceptance, but no relationship was found between perceived ease of use and user acceptance. The findings indicated difficulties in using ERP systems for end users in the United States, which stakeholders could rectify to improve productivity in organizations. Positive social change implications include improving the standard of living, increasing the literacy rate, and reducing negative externalities to improve human and social conditions in society.

From Data to Decisions: Decisive Factors Influencing Swedish IT SMEs Adoption of Business Intelligence Systems

Nilfouroushan, Shayan, Almohtasib, Tarik January 2023 (has links)
Research Question: Which are the decisive factors that impact the adoption of business intelligence systems (BIS) among IT SMEs in Sweden? Purpose: This paper aims to examine Swedish SMEs and understand which decisive factors have an impact on the decision makers and their adoption of BIS. This study aims to study SMEs that have already adopted BIS. Method: A deductive qualitative approach was used to answer the study’s research question. The primary data was conducted through seven semi-structured interviews with Swedish IT SMEs. Empirical Findings: The empirical findings highlight that some factors had a greater influence on the adoption of BIS than others. These were possession of the right type of data, support of top management and service provider support. Conclusion: The presented study identified that small and medium sized enterprises are prone to BIS adoption when considering three decisive factors. First, the importance of possessing data and having the right type of data was a critical need and a factor for BIS adoption. Second, the use of service provider support for SMEs seemed to contribute with important value according to the findings. Third, working proactively with change management affected the perceived usefulness of technology and led to a higher chance of small and medium sized adopting BIS.

: An interview study on conditions and motivation for secure usage in a professional educational organization

Geronson, Carl, Mellvé, Oscar January 2023 (has links)
As digitalization has increased, there has been a growing focus on IT security. There are various types of solutions to strengthen IT security, and implementing multi-factor authentication is one of them. In the security efforts of organizations, users play an important role, but they can also be seen as a security threat rather than a resource. In this interview study, we examine how the implementation of multi-factor authentication affects users' digital work environment. To understand this, the study used a qualitative data collection method, conducting ten semi-structured interviews with employees from Malmö university. In the analysis of the results, the study utilized theoretical frameworks such as the Technology Acceptance Model, Protection Motivation Theory, and a phenomenological perspective. The study reveals that there is unpredictability associated with multi-factor authentication, creating a cognitive adjustment and a hindrance in workflow. It is also evident that users' awareness of IT security is an important factor in accepting security measures such as multi-factor authentication. The study emphasizes the need for a good user experience in existing IT systems to welcome and adapt to future implementations of security systems.

Technological Innovation in Mobile Payment Solutions : A study on factors affecting the adoption rate of mobile payment solutions / Teknologisk Innovation inom Mobila Betalningslösningar : En studie på faktorer som påverkar anammandet av mobila betalningslösningar

Kavak, Welat, Anwar, Kalid January 2019 (has links)
The advent of mobile payment solution has brought a mixed reaction on the mind of potential consumers on whether to adopt or not. Also, the mobile payment has elicited discussion about its future. The major question is on whether the technology will replace traditional banking processes, or if it will act as a compliment. The thesis seeks to promote the adoption of mobile payment by improving available information for stakeholders. The advent of mobile payment technology shows that it has a high number of benefits, but it does not match with the current adoption rate. The statistics show that the majority of users of mobile payment uses it to for smaller transactions such as the purchase of books and food. The slow uptake of mobile payment adoption vis a vis immense benefit of the platform. The disparity motivated the study on factors that influence solution adoptions. The thesis provides a clear linkage of factors such as environmental risk, reputation, trust, perceived usefulness, ease of use and mobility in influencing potential consumer attitude and intention to use a specific payment solution.

Methods for Comparing Database Management Systems

Törnqvist, Jakob January 2023 (has links)
Zenon AB is an it-company of which, this thesis was made in collaboration with. Zenon AB has clients that generate large amounts of data, therefore it is important for Zenon AB that they make competent choices of database management systems (DBMS) when designing systems for their clients. This thesis will therefore entail research carried out into the comparison of DBMS. Nowadays, there exists a large variety of DBMS. Despite this, there seems to be a lack of comparisons between types of DBMS and therefore a lack clarity of when each type should be used. Thus, this thesis aims to highlight these differences of DBMS types by creating a tailored test for each DBMS type and compare how each type performs in each-others area of specialization. This process will show how big the differences can be and highlight the importance of the choice of DBMS. The time it takes, and how simple DBMSs are to implement seems to be a factor most developers take into consideration when choosing DBMS but there is little research on how to compare the aspect. Therefore, this thesis will investigate the viability of a method to compare how easy the DBMSs are to implement into systems by querying programming help forums such as Stackoverflow.

Yes box! Differences and similarities when customers use parcel lockersas delivery option when e-shopping from the pharmacy and fashion industries

Kempe Sjöström, Caroline, Sackbrook, Hannah January 2022 (has links)
In recent years, e-commerce as well as customer demands regarding delivery options have increased. The parcel locker is a delivery option that is increasing in popularity, but it is still under development in Sweden. Two industries where most customers have e-shopped from are the pharmacy- and the fashion industries. In addition, these industries have had a distinct growth in recent years. Previous research on parcel lockers is limited, especially in Sweden. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to map which factors are important when using parcel locker as a delivery option in Sweden when e-shopping from the pharmacy and fashion industries. Based on this purpose, the following two research questions were constructed: "What factors are important for customers' use of parcel locker as a delivery option when e-shopping from pharmacy and fashion industries?" and "What factor differences and similarities for customers can be found when using parcel locker as a delivery option when e-shopping from pharmacy and fashion industries?". In line with this purpose and to create a generalizability, a quantitative method was chosen in the form of a survey. Factors examined were delivery time, geographical convenience, opening hours, environmental sustainability, ease of use and avoidance of human interaction. The results show that all factors were important for parcel locker users but to varying degrees. On the other hand, there were factor differences for two of the six factors when customers use parcel locker as a delivery option when e-shopping from the pharmacy and fashion industries. Delivery time proved to be more important for parcel locker users when e-shopping from the pharmacy industry. Environmental sustainability, on the other hand, proved to be more important for parcel locker users when e-shopping from the fashion industry. This study contributes with knowledge of what could be perceived as important when using parcel lockers. Furthermore, this study highlights that there are factor differences when e-shopping via parcel lockers from pharmacy and fashion industries. The study's contribution opens for further research regarding how customer preferences about parcel lockers differ when e-shopping from different industries.

Understanding Adoption of Mobile Wallets : On Aged Population

Koosha, Amirmohammad January 2018 (has links)
A mobile wallet is a mobile application that is intended to replace leather wallets. With high mobile and Internet penetration and increased life expectancy in developed economies, adoption of mobile wallets by the older population is becoming more important due to new trends. Therefore, this thesis aims to understand and increase adoption of mobile wallets in developed economies by the citizens between the ages of 50 to 75. Based on the mobile payment technology acceptance model (MPTAM) and an extensive literature review, a simplified model is suggested. Three sub-questions (on 1 - social influence, 2 - perceived security, trust and risks, and 3 – perceived ease of use) are proposed for further study, which has been suggested in the literature to have more importance for the targeted demography. An exploratory qualitative study based on in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted. The findings show that social influence can have direct or indirect effects. Moreover, several factors were identified that seems to have impacts on the degree to which a content can influence people. In addition, perceived trust, security, and risks seem to be the most important impediment for the adoption of mobile wallets, especially for risk-averse people. Furthermore, perceived ease of use can improve the values that mobile wallets may provide. Perceived ease of use is more important for the targeted age group since some of the potential users in this age group has reduced learning and physical abilities. Finally, many implications of the findings and methods to improve the adoption of mobile wallets for the selected demography, i.e. restriction and customization, use of familiar design, use of strong brands, etc. are suggested.
