Marta Maria Pinto Ferraz 04 April 2008 (has links)
This study is situated within the realm of Information Science and its core component is the mediated reading as a tool to sensitize and form the reader and library user. The aim of the research is to develop mediated reading practices with Elementary I Students and asses the outcome of these mediated reading practices. The hypothesis that mediated reading will lead students from elementary grades to be more sensitive/receptive to reading, enabling these students to become self sufficient in the use of a library. We set up eleven meetings of mediated reading, taking place in a public school library, to observe the subjects. For the development of this research, we elaborated a theory around the subject/theme. This study was supported by measures in school, from which derived (resulted) activity reports, which were then analyzed, taking into account the fundamentals that formed our theory. The research demonstrated that mediated reading in public libraries will lead to sensitive readers and increase of library use among students. With Mediated Reading we were able to extend the students previous knowledge. The basic text, necessary for future reading, was built, and the relationship with a book was reinforced significantly.

We seek to understand why students lose the enjoyment of literature during the basic education and what responsibility different educational institutions, at different degrees, bear in the development of a critical reader. Thus, we focus the prime motivator and mediator of reading in the classroom, the teacher. Recognizing the importance of his intervention in the readers‟s development, including the selection of appropriate material, choice of teaching strategies, and encouragement of discussion and reflection by their students. For this, we analyze how the teacher has been prepared in his graduation course, to act as a social transformer, within the classroom. In order to asses some of the major theoretical foundations of reading, see how reading is taught in the classroom and point out elements that can act as auxiliaries in the process of teacher motivation, our qualitative research used semi-structured questions, asked of elementary school students, teachers in action and language students. With this study, we show that the reading books, given to elementary students are not always appropriate for this age group, and that the way that these material are presented and used, can turn student's way from the enjoyment of reading; teacher graduate courses in reading instruction, only discuss the theoretical aspects of reading instruction, without application in the classroom work. We also observed the skills and strategies taught in graduate instruction are just term lost during the teacher's training, without major consequences for their future performance in the classroom.

Forming readers in our country is a big challenge. In different areas of knowledge, reading has been the subject of research because of many different factors that have contributed to the failure to democratize the access of reading. As far as literary reading is concerned, the difficulties are even more evident. Because of the lack of more solid and consistent formation, many teachers end up promoting the inadequate schooling of literary reading. Such a posture, instead of raising students' interest in and interest in reading, further increases the gap between the student and reading practices. This research is configured as a case study, from a qualitative perspective, being a methodology that allows a better understanding of the problems that involve the school. The first chapter deals with the troubled relationship between reading, school and literature. The second chapter presents the methodology of the research, the contextualization of the school where the research was carried out and the profile of the participants. It also deals with the process of selection, collection and analysis of data. The third chapter presents the analysis of the corpus, which is constituted by data collected both during the observation period and during the intervention period. In the first case, the interviews were recorded in audio with the teacher and with the students, the application of questionnaires with the parents and/or those responsible for these students and the analysis of documents institutions. In the second, the analysis was based on the work involving literary reading practices with the class investigated. Thus, the educational product of this research consists of this experience of literary reading from the literary literacy proposed by Cosson (2014). Its objective is to highlight the importance of the insertion of children's literature in the daily school life, as well as the role of the teacher as mediator in the encounter between the beginning reader and the literary text. The results of this study revealed that, if well founded and well articulated with the experiences of students, work with children's literature may be a fundamental resource for expanding the stimulus to reading in elementary education.

The objective is to investigate the reading modes that are present in this environment, investigating what the student reads, what motivates or discourages her/him to read, the family influence, the reading practices offered by the teachers and the work done by the school librarians. The thesis of the research, which seeks to be proved, is whether the fulltime state school contributes positively to the reading constitution of the young person who studies this kind of school. As a theoretical reference, the assumptions of French line Discourse Analysis are taken as starting point, from the perspective of Michel Foucault (2012, 2013a, 2013b) and Michel Pêcheux (1990, 1997), as well as the dialogical principle of Mikhail Bakhtin ( 2000, 2009). We also highlight the studies on reading practices, in the perspective of Roger Chartier (1999), Alberto Manguel (1997) e Néstor García Canclini (2008), besides the assumption of Antonio Candido (1972, 1995) in the literary field, and the work of Lígia Cadermatori (2012), Graça Paulino (2001) and Regina Zilberman (2001), on, more specifically, the practices of literary reading in school, among other scholars. This is a qualitative research, applied to a case study, which describes the proposed object, through data collected by recorded interviews, with the research subjects who participate of the study: 40 students, 4 teachers and 2 dinamyzers of the library. The students were divided into two groups: readers and non-readers, the participants of the second group were self-declared as non-readers. The results of this investigation show that the practice of reading among readers and non-readers is, to a certain extent, influenced by the family environment and friends, and it is motivated by the use of digital media and technological devices, which influence access to new books. In addition, we confirmed that student readers, in general, enjoy reading activities provided by teachers in the morning shift classes, and in the literacy support workshop offered in the afternoon, and they have a strong sense of identification with the work developed by one of the dynamizers of the school library. All these factors had a favorable impact on the reading education of these young people. Non-readers, on the other hand, are highly averse to the methodologies proposed by the school to read, and do not feel comfortable with the full-time study. This research concluded, then, the importance of more investigation about the mediation and training of teachers and the dinamyzers, in order to improve the integration of teaching in this school among professionals and students, so that, the school could offer real full-time education, and it is also important to improve the infrastructure of these schools.

This essay aims to analyse a teaching context of Portuguese language, specifically literature classes, checking the development of these classes, observing how the social agents involved interpret the actions carried out there and how the reader formation happens in this context. For this we well be going back and forward to the theoretical foundation, whenever we deem is necessary, to realize how these participants are evolved in the construction of social reality through the language. We will analyze the interation teacher-student, and, especially, we will investigate how the reader formation happens in this multilingual and multicultural context. These points shows the relevance of these research within the language and society. Because we are worried with the process in wich the social agents are inserted, we can say our research is qualitative, also ethnographic, once it will be developed in a natural environment, besides, is interpretive nature because we worry about to read the teaching learning context. The main estrategies adopted Will be the classes audio recording and video and the developing of field diaries. We will analyse the data collected based on theoretical assumptions of Kleiman (1992, 1993, 1998 e 2004), Smith (1999), Martins (1994), Fairclough (2001), Moita Lopes(1998), Pires-Santos (2004), Vygotsky (2002), Zilberman (2001), Silverman (2009) e Silva (2009), among others. The result expected with this research is the interpretation of Portuguese language teaching context understanding how the reader formation happens in this context.

This study aimed at developing an academic research on the process of growing literary text readers – what, how, when, where and why they read literary texts—with a group of fifty high school students from Colégio de Aplicação João XXIII, from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. As a way to analyze the experience of teaching literature at school, three Literature teachers were chosen. The questions which were raised in this study refer to the students’ literary background, to the difficulties they face to read this kind of text, to the reasons which lead them to choose the best-sellers instead of the classic literature, to the current relation between the youth and reading itself, to the literary text choices made by the teachers (how it is done and which criteria are used for the selection), to the teachers’ role in the process, among other relevant ones. For the research, it was used the qualitative research method, on its ethnographic branch, and observations, interviews, document analysis and audio records were implemented all through the study. Even thought the process of reading is a goal that goes beyond the school time, it is at the school itself that it is expected the development of strategies and attitudes which help the reader to do better than understanding the text he reads but also increasing his pleasure on reading and his doing the reading as a frequent activity. We understand that the theoretical investigation and the research on literature teaching can help to optimize it deeply.

Torres, Érica Gislene Paula Santana Revoredo Nascimento 23 February 2018 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This Final Conclusion Work (TCF) is written in the format of a dissertation and presents a practical proposal of training intervention for critical literary readers. This approach was realized through pedagogical workshops of reading of short stories of Marina Colasanti, which theme the violence against women in the domestic space. In a didactic way, this version is divided into two parts: a theoretical one, called "Reading of the female body: concepts and methodological approaches", and a practice, "Literary workshops: questioning domestic violence". This field research took place at a municipal school in Ribeirópolis/SE, in a class from the 9th year of elementary school. As this is an intervention action peculiar of the action-research, this study happened in three moments: bibliographical research and preparation of the workshops; application of these and data collection and, finally, the reading practice developed in the workshops. Methodologically, we discuss the formation of the reader of the literary text through the theoretical approaches of Umberto Eco, Anne Rouxel, Leonor Werneck, Armando Gens and Carlos Gomes, valuing the particularities of the literary text and acting of a collaborating reader; Next, we pass over to a study of the marks of gender violence in literary narratives through Judith Butler's approaches about gender deregulation, the classification of the female body by Elódia Xavier and the types of domestic violence highlighted by Marina Colasanti according to Carlos Gomes. The intervention proposal was divided into seven workshops. The first two are aimed at identifying the horizon of students’ expectations about domestic violence through the identification of the typology of the female body proposed by Elódia Xavier. The third and fourth workshops are practices of reading of Colasanti’s short stories, developed through debates, production of drawings and answers to questionnaires. The last workshops recapture the discussion about gender inequality in several spaces: reader community, at the media and into the literary text and privilege the elaboration of critical multimodal readings of the selected stories with the choice of images for the elaboration of videos. Finally, the participants set up a presentation in digital format of the story read and show to the workshop participants. In addition to the training of literary readers, this practical proposal of intervention is intended to promote reflections about the social traits of gender inequality, identifying and combating the symbolic and psychological forms of domestic violence.

Márcia Maria de Moraes 24 April 2012 (has links)
Even though Portuguese teachers are aware of the necessity of intensifying reading activities, they lack research material, time and more specific information for the development of reading proposals which cater for the demands of the official documents and of the reference matrix of external evaluation. Starting from this necessity, the aim of this research is to show possibilities of classroom reading activities involving the discursive genre short story so as to subsidize didactic-pedagogic proposals about this genre. The reading of short stories is recommended in Elementary, Junior and High Schools by the official documents. According to PCN (Brazil, 1998), Literature provides the possibility to confront languages in social practices and History; explore language resources and recognize social and human values. Our specific aims are: 1) identify the characteristics and specificities of this genre short story which should be considered in classroom reading activities; 2) show reading abilities that can be explored by means of the given genre, taking into account the reading abilities suggested by Reference Matrix of the Elementary School National Evaluation System and by the PISA reading proficiency levels; 3) based on a corpus composed of five short stories, give examples of reading activities developed according to the documents mentioned above, exploring the potentialities of this genre. The theoretical foundation for this research are literary studies of short stories; Bakthins socio-enunciative conception of language, especially the concept of discursive genre and dialogism; the sociocognitive reading approach and the pedagogical work with discursive genres proposed by Dolz and Schneuwly. The theoretical framework mentioned provided us with the necessary subsides for a qualitative analysis of our data, which was developed within a project called OBSERVATÓRIO/UNITAU 2011 2014 Competências e habilidades de leitura: da reflexão teórica ao desenvolvimento e aplicação de propostas didático-pedagógicas, sponsored by the Programa Observatório da Educação CAPES/INEP sob n 23038010000201076. The result of this research is the development of a didactic sequence as a suggestion for the reading of short stories which will help develop classroom reading activities since the reading of literary works, such as short stories, promotes great possibilities for dialogue between senses and knowledge. In conclusion, we believe that the work with reading didactic sequence in projects contribute to the development of students reading competence. By exploring reading abilities, the didactic sequence can favor knowledge appropriation in a significant way, enabling youngsters to become critical and to act in society.

Correia, Mariana January 2018 (has links)
The research "Among witches, vampires, divergents, and zombies: the formation of the literary reader in school" aims to understand to what extent the reading project "Film and Book" contributed to the recognition of literary literacy in an elementary school, where the focus of Portuguese language teaching is on linguistic education aimed at the formation of literary readers, as well as to design theoretical and methodological possibilities for the continuity of this project. For this purpose, the research was conducted in three phases: theoretical, establishing theoretical assumptions in a transdisciplinary perspective based on Applied Linguistics and involving concepts of Linguistics, Literary Theory and Pedagogy; reflective, containing a teacher report and data analysis obtained through a questionnaire with former students from the “Film and Book” project; and projective, aligning the previous phases to the outlining of theoretical and methodological possibilities of using commercial literary texts (mass literature) and canonical ones (classics) for the development of projects aimed at literary literacy.

Literatura em quadrinhos: percursos e possibilidades na formação do leitor literário / Literature in comic books: pathways and possibilities in the formation of literary readers

Mota, Elaine Mendes da 25 November 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to investigate strategies to promote the formation of literary readers through the reading of literary works adapted into Comic Books. This study focus on the readers/students first contact with Literature in Comic Books at the beginning of their secondary school, aiming at reading the book Sr. William Shakespeare teatro, by Marcia Williams. Considering present researches in the field of mother tongue teaching, its been verified that there are many challenges and dilemmas in the formation of proficient readers. Reading social practices in contemporary society demand abilities and competences from the reader on various fields, codes and means of expression all together, many times, in only one text, in the most varied formats and media. In a scenario formed by texts and multiple hybrid means of expression, there is space for the questioning about which knowledge and competences are needed for the student to effectively achieve the aim of reading, in other words, the building of meaning. Interwoven in the same piece of work, the literature, the art of vocabulary usage, and the Comic Books, sequential art, create an inter-semiotic text, rich in possibilities to the developing reader, besides being a propitious field to the esthetic initiation. Starting from these considerations and hypothesis, this study intends to investigate the interaction between the reader, the work and its authors in order to reflect upon socio and meta-cognitive reading aspects. It is intended to contribute to the discussions about the literary reader formation and the relevance of specific works and forms of expression in this process. To do so, this case study has proposed the investigation through the use of questionnaires, reading diaries and verbal protocol to subsidize the knowledge and thought about the Literature in Comic Books reading process.
