Regnbågsfamiljer i bilderböcker : En text- och bildanalys om hur homosexuella föräldrar skildras i fyra bilderböcker / Rainbow families in picture books : A text and image analysis of the portrayal of homosexual parents in four picture books

Leo, Sofia, Karlsson, Anna January 2016 (has links)
This analysis concerns four picture books that in different ways address the topic of children in rainbow families. The purpose of the study is to analyse how rainbow families are portrayed in the picture books by the authors and illustrators. In carrying out the analysis, we assess how the texts and pictures are used to depict the families. We also look at how the books are didactically structured to raise the reader’s awareness of rainbow families. Our hope is that this study will inspire teachers to use picture books when teaching to broaden students’ understanding of different family structures. One result of the analysis is that the formation of a family plays a significant part in these books. We have also observed that the books are didactic in different ways to draw attention to and normalise families with homosexual parents. All four picture books have their depiction of the families in common - they all show the families as happy with parents in stable relationships.

Masculine Gender Role Conflict and Psychological Well- Being: A Comparative Study of Heterosexual and Gay Men

Shepard, William D. 08 1900 (has links)
Masculine gender role conflict (MGRC) occurs when externally-imposed male gender role expectations have a negative impact on and consequences for men. The purpose of this study was to examine how men in a homogeneous setting (i.e., a college campus) compare on MGRC and psychological well-being, based on their self-identified sexual orientation. Utilizing canonical correlation analysis, 96 heterosexual men and 102 gay men were compared on four factors of MGRC (conflict between work and family, restrictive emotionality, restrictive affectionate behavior between men, and success, power, and competition) and five factors of psychological well-being (anger, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and attitudes toward seeking psychological help). Findings for the heterosexual men were highly consistent with previous studies on MGRC and psychological well-being in a college-age population. Findings for the gay men indicated they had more problems with MGRC and psychological well-being than college-age and older gay men surveyed in the one published study on gay men and MGRC. Gay men who were single also reported more problems with restrictive emotionality, anger, anxiety, and depression, and had lower self-esteem, than gay men who were in a relationship. Between group differences were few, with gay men reporting significantly less restrictive affectionate behavior between men than heterosexual men. There were no significant differences between the two groups on any of the psychological well-being variables, indicating that the gay men were no more pathological than the heterosexual men with respect to their psychological well-being. Overall, the psychological well-being of both populations was seen to suffer as a result of increased MGRC. Implications are discussed for psychological interventions with men who are bound by traditional male gender role stereotypes.

No. of bitstreams: 1 DISSERTACAO.pdf: 1310020 bytes, checksum: b044cbaf61d1fb1f19efa92927e68c17 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-10-21 / The objective of this study is to know the repercussion of the positive sorology to the human imunodeficiency virus (HIV) on the soroconcordants heterosexual couples trajectory, identifying changes in the couples affective-sexual life and how they deal and face the diagnostic. It was developed at the Centro de Controle de Deficiências Imunológicas (CCDI) at Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) and two couples in which both the partners had positive sorology to HIV in assintomatic fase took part. Two interviews have been done with each couple, starting by a semi-structuralized script, wich was also a familiar genogram. By analysing the context the informations have been discussed under the light of General Systems Theory and Attachment Theory. In participants narratives it was possible to identify familiars patterns s influences in the formation of the couple, the development of its conjugality facing the diagnostic of positive sorology to HIV. Masculine unfaifthfulness, the way in to the infection on both studied couples, was responsible for feelings suchs as anger, fear, desperation and guilt.

The Complexities of Female Sexuality: Narratives of Women who Have Experienced Both Heterosexual and Same-Sex Marriages

Butland, Krista Anne 01 January 2015 (has links)
Due to social stigma, millions of sexual minorities have concealed their true sexual identities by entering into heterosexual relationships and marriages. Eventually, some transition to same-sex relationships and are able to live authentic lives. This latter group had identified as genuinely heterosexual, never questioning their sexuality until a particular time in their lives when same-sex desires spontaneously appeared. The experiences of transitioning from heterosexual to same-sex partners are not well known, particularly for women who have been legally married to both men and women. Diamond's dynamical systems theory for same-sex sexuality and McCarn and Fassinger's lesbian identity formation model provided the theoretical framework for this qualitative narrative study investigating the life stories of 15 female participants recruited from social media, who had experienced a transition from heterosexual marriage to same-sex marriage. Face-to-face interviews were conducted and data were coded and analyzed to identify emergent categories. The findings revealed that the women experienced shifts in private and public sexual identities over time. Despite external obstacles and personal concerns in transitioning from heterosexual to same-sex relationships, all the women had more positive experiences in their same-sex marriages than they did in their heterosexual marriages. Understanding these women's life stories will allow mental health professionals to better understand and address the needs of this population in more clinical and applied settings. This study will also help educate the general public about women who experience shifts in the desired gender of their relationship.

Bortom ”könet”? : om Simones förvandling, avslöjande och återställande i Ulf Starks Dårfinkar & dönickar (1984) / Beyond “gender”? : Simone`s transformation, unveiling and restoration in Ulf Stark`s Dårfinkar & dönickar (1984).

Chaitas, Maria January 2005 (has links)
<p>The aim of this paper is to analyse how subject, gender and sexuality is constructed in the book <i>Dårfinkar & dönickar </i>(1984), by Ulf Stark. In relation to this I have also analysed how the main character, Simone, develops from being a child into becoming a teenager.</p><p>Queertheory is the theoretical basis of this paper. Queer theory questions heteronormativity and aims to dissolve conceptions and notions that function in an excluding and limiting way. Queer theory also questions conceptions that seem obvious and/or natural, for example “woman”/”man” and “homo-/heterosexuality”.</p><p>I have chosen to focus the analysis on a number key events in the book and they are categorised according to Tiina Rosenberg`s three dramaturgic concepts: transformation, unveiling and restoration. I have also focused on how masculinities are constructed and to be able to this I have used R. W Connel`s theory. The result of my analysis is that the representation of gender in the book are constructed in accordance to the heterosexual matrix. It is also clear that Simone`s development from childhood to teenager follows Rosenberg`s three dramaturgic concepts.</p>

Ladies av Mara Lee– en chick-lit som alla andra? : En narratologisk och diskursanalytisk studie av Ladies och chick-lit-genren.

<p><!--StartFragment--></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">My thesis deals with the novel </span><em><span>Ladies</span></em><em><span lang="EN-GB">,</span></em><span lang="EN-GB"> written in 2007 by the Swedish author Mara Lee. ”Förhoppningsvis är man två” : En studie över hur 18-åringar i en mindre stad i Sverige resonerar kring kön, kropp och sexualitet

Johansson, Linda, Wallin, Petra January 2010 (has links)
<p>The essay is about how teenagers around 18 years of age in a small town in Sweden talk about gender, body and sexuality. The study is based on two focus group interviews with five boys and four girls. We have then thematized and analyzed the material with queer theory. The results show how young people see heterosexuality as something 'natural' and gender as biologically determined. The teenagers are critical towards anything that deviates from the traditional nuclear family consisting of mother, father and children. Norms are created in their speech as some of them acts as so called "border guards" for these norms. Our conclusion is that there are difficulties to be deviate in terms of gender, sexuality and body in a small town.</p>
