Fotografia da metrópole: fotogenia e aura

Name, José João 06 December 2010 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Jose Joao Name.pdf: 43545230 bytes, checksum: 93f414005c68b2c4bc1d2e5f02c05515 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-12-06 / Street photography or urban photography, in terms of photographic style, historically results not only from a new instrumentalization made available by technological progress in the first half of the XIXth century, but also, and above all, from social and psychological conditions which started to reign in that period. This new way of representing the objective world brought innovative particularities like the combination of elements such as mental image, double, objective traces and aura in one perception object: photography. Such particularities are found in the concept of photogeny, one of the denominations given to the charm of photographic images, which is examined here based on Edgar Morin s studies. The analysis of the concept of photogeny leads us, in search of precursors, to the idea of aura in Walter Benjamin s writings, showing intersections which are particularly interesting and elucidative of both concepts. In Walter Benjamin s reflections are included phenomena such as crowd, shock and flâneur upon which are based our own reflections on the conditions which caused changes in the perception, receptiveness and response of the growing stimuli resulting from new ways of coexistence and mobility in the metropolis. Another approach related to the charm, the aura and the temporality of the photography, such as the temporal punctum, is integrated into these previous concepts and analyzed with the concept of photogeny. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is the constitution of a more embracing corpus enabling the understanding of the complexity of the photographic phenomenon. The metropolis, object of the urban photographer, through its physiognomy, plays a major role in this dissertation, showing itself, like on a photograph, as a psychophysical mechanism whose charm dwells in the indistinguishable relation between the objective world and the imaginary / A fotografia de rua ou fotografia urbana, enquanto estilo fotográfico, decorre historicamente não apenas de uma nova instrumentalização proporcionada pelos avanços tecnológicos que se iniciaram na primeira metade do século XIX, mas, sobretudo, das condições sociais que vigoraram a partir desse período.

Ribeiro, Sheila Canevacci 26 June 2014 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Sheila Canevacci Ribeiro.pdf: 36581540 bytes, checksum: 4457fba39baff42f7ba0d86f7a0f3931 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-06-26 / Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo / Starting off from the experience crossed by digital culture, a mixture of apparently incongruent communicational elements has been proliferating in the metropolis. This is a phenomenon of communication named here as absurd congruence (AC) for conjugating odd occurrences that, being normalized and legitimized in contemporaneity, collaborate within themselves without, nevertheless, causing strangeness. The absurd congruencies (ACs) break out in unexpected and interspaced situations and locations in the communicational metropolis, fruit of the tension between communication, culture and consumption, hypertexting the verbalimage imbrications so very much accordingly to the environment that the strangeness of what they gather is not noticed. To identify the absurd congruencies , it is necessary to practice a methodology guided by a flâneur itinerancy, both in the city and online life, navigating through an interdisciplinary biographical review (Muniz Sodré), articulating four theoretical axes: a) mediabody theory (Helena Katz e Christine Greiner); b) methodological fetishism (Massimo Canevacci); c) cyber culture studies (Mcluhan, Lemos, Shirky); and d) post-colonial studies of communication (Souza Santos, Bhabha. Fanon). Treating absurd congruencies as glocal samplings promoted by the on/ offline transcodification, the objective of this research is to propose its proliferation as a cognitive symptom of the indexed subjects we are now. The hypothesis proposes AC as a communicational event of expanded authorship in diverse materializations, a mediabody of the communicational metropolis that, as it manifests itself, reveals values already present in the very communication / Um mix de elementos comunicacionais aparentemente incongruentes vem proliferando na metrópole, a partir da vivência atravessada pela cultura digital.

Know the origins of the landscapes of the city and the urban, to discuss it and act : experimentations on the Metropolis of Grand Nancy

Simon, Jean-Marie 14 December 2018 (has links)
The European convention of the landscape and the problem of the Historic Urban landscapes proposed by UNESCO, confirm the importance of a good knowledge of the landscapes for a management of the built frame answering the current needs. But, in France, atlas of the landscape, essential elements of the landscaped politics, don’t take into consideration the urban landscapes, apparently for methodological motives. The objective is to think about the methods which can improve this Knowledge. The first part makes the state of the art of the subject, calls back the role of the landscapes in the individual and collective daily well-being, lists the speaker and the doctrines and establishes a balance sheet of the current steps. A second part redraws the methods of the geographical discipline to approach the landscape of the city and its exchanges with other disciplines: the town planning, the landscape, the architecture. The third part is an experiment which leans on an atlas of the landscapes of Meurthe-et-Moselle and deepens the territory of the Metropolis of Grand Nancy. The reserved method, stemming from the practice of transect, is accompanied by limited landscaped analyses coming from the method of the statutory landscaped based on the Landscape Law of 1993. About ten sectors are examined: center, city entrance, lot, large set industrial parks. This approach allows to formulate some methodological proposals which enclose the experiment.

A verticalização no Butantã e o avançar de uma nova fronteira / The verticalization in Butantã and the advancement of a new frontier

Rocha, Robson Edgar 12 March 2015 (has links)
A fragment of São Paulos metropolis, the Butantãs zone is passing by an important verticalization process since the 1990s decade. The transformation from space production to space reproduction, indicated by a transformation in the urbanization pattern, the verticalization in Butantã is expressed as the new urban frontiers advancement. This researchs aim is to demonstrate that this frontiers advancement inflicts to Butantã a trend to integrate morphologically to the central and dense zones of the São Paulos metropolis, and mainly, to integrate economically to axis valuation that since centrality known as Vetor Sudoeste. In the economic sphere, verticalizations process in Butantã represents a front of capitalist accumulation favored by store value formed previously from verticalization. Therefore, this research aims to reveal, through historical recomposition, the constitution of a geographical situation permeated by a valuation potential and to discuss how the state acting and financializations process of real state allows today the valuation.

A metrópole em cena: As metáforas do teatro e do cinema em Cidade de Vidro de Paul Auster e Sinédoque Nova York de Charlie Kaufman / The metropolis on the scene: the metaphors of theatre and cinema in City of Glass by Paul Auster and Synecdoche New York by Charlie Kaufman

Anna Carolina de Azevedo Caramuru 29 March 2011 (has links)
The metaphor of the world as a stage has been present in human imagination for centuries. This can be seen in the artistic and philosophical works from Cicero to Shakespeare: the world is representation. This study aims to examine, in an interdisciplinary way, the ramifications of the metaphors of the theatre and the cinema, exploring the space of the metropolis. The corpus for the study consists of the novel City of Glass by Paul Auster (1999) and the filmic narrative Synecdoche New York by Charlie Kaufman (2008). To this end, we present theorists of the metaphor, having as the main source Hans Blumenberg, the founder of Metaphorology, Paul Ricoeur and Derrida, especially the studies that focus on this figure of speech. Metaphors, however, take place in a certain space, the metropolis, and to be guided in their ways, we elected the new cultural geography researchers, Paul Claval, Mathias Le Bossé and Denis Cosgrove among them. For the relation between the city and the theatre, we consider the creation story of the western theatre as the main starting point for the ramifications of such mimicry. To study the specific space of the metropolis, we count on Walter Benjamin and his followers. Benjaminian studies will also be of vital importance for our understanding of the relationship between the cinema and the metropolis. That relationship has also been explained in Nietzches questioning of the truth. It was not our intention to compare the works analyzed here in their narratology plans and techniques. Rather, we aimed at relating two texts governed by similar but yet different codes and artistic procedures. We seek to show how theatrical and cinematic relations in the metropolis, fragmented as the man lost in it, cause a suspension of the border between reality and fiction

Metropolização e o discurso da modernidade na reposição da periferia: o bairro do Cabuçu no município de Guarulhos / Metropolises and the discourse of modernity in the replacement of the periphery: the neighborhood of Cabuçu in Guarulhos

Carvalho, André Luiz de 03 March 2011 (has links)
This task has as na aim of study the relation which involves the suburb and its processo f replacement in São Paulo city, having as a fundamental support the accomplished study in Cabuçu district in Guarulhos city. The complexity, for the time being keeps diferent analysis in the way of its interpretation starting from this pretext what studies in this task is the presente situation of São Paulo metropolis suburb according to the promises of modernity in the relation to the suburb development. This modernity with the capital evolution takes private property institution to the center point, changing it into the most principal marks of the modern society. Among so many alternatives around the present urban complexity, the done choice here was to analyse the suburb as the reality of associate space that, by the point of view of this bigger reprodution must be constantly replaced in the metropolis land not excluding contradictions inherent into this process. However, this constant movement goes to its own urban way which is remade from a capital logic and impossibility in reaching modernity promises. The metropolis gets to the present moment as a territory that, among several developments, begings emphasizing the link between speculative capital and real state market. From this point, the intensification of speculative real state comes and it is articulated in the metropolis land. By as consequences, the suburb repositiion that gets worse according to the misery which becomes bigger in the dwellings and also becomes being na articulated movement in the same metropolis.

Chanal, Hervé 09 December 2005 (has links) (PDF)

Bayesian Methods in Gaussian Graphical Models

Mitsakakis, Nikolaos 31 August 2010 (has links)
This thesis contributes to the field of Gaussian Graphical Models by exploring either numerically or theoretically various topics of Bayesian Methods in Gaussian Graphical Models and by providing a number of interesting results, the further exploration of which would be promising, pointing to numerous future research directions. Gaussian Graphical Models are statistical methods for the investigation and representation of interdependencies between components of continuous random vectors. This thesis aims to investigate some issues related to the application of Bayesian methods for Gaussian Graphical Models. We adopt the popular $G$-Wishart conjugate prior $W_G(\delta,D)$ for the precision matrix. We propose an efficient sampling method for the $G$-Wishart distribution based on the Metropolis Hastings algorithm and show its validity through a number of numerical experiments. We show that this method can be easily used to estimate the Deviance Information Criterion, providing a computationally inexpensive approach for model selection. In addition, we look at the marginal likelihood of a graphical model given a set of data. This is proportional to the ratio of the posterior over the prior normalizing constant. We explore methods for the estimation of this ratio, focusing primarily on applying the Monte Carlo simulation method of path sampling. We also explore numerically the effect of the completion of the incomplete matrix $D^{\mathcal{V}}$, hyperparameter of the $G$-Wishart distribution, for the estimation of the normalizing constant. We also derive a series of exact and approximate expressions for the Bayes Factor between two graphs that differ by one edge. A new theoretical result regarding the limit of the normalizing constant multiplied by the hyperparameter $\delta$ is given and its implications to the validity of an improper prior and of the subsequent Bayes Factor are discussed.
