Work-life interaction among Afrikaans speaking secondary school educators in the North West Province : a phenomenological study / Chenell Buys

In contemporary society, work and home represent the two most significant domains in the life of a working individual. In order to help an individual live optimally, the work and personal life domains must no longer be regarded as separate domains, but as highly interrelated. The work and personal life domains must influence each other in a positive way to assist the individual in his daily responsibilities at work and in his personal life. A high proportion of employed workers, however, have serious difficulties in combining obligations in their work and personal lives. Educators are one of the occupations that may find it difficult to integrate their work and personal life. The objectives of this research were to determine how Afrikaans-speaking educators experienced Work-Personal Life Interaction (WPLI), to determine the domains in Afrikaans-speaking educators' lives that could interact with one another, to determine the main antecedents and consequences of WPLI for Afrikaans-speaking educators and to investigate which strategies Afrikaans-speaking educators used to deal with WPLI issues. A non-probability purposive voluntary sample (N = I I) of Afrikaans-speaking secondary school educators was used from the North West Province (in the Potchefstroom and Promosa areas). A qualitative design from a phenomenological approach was used to determine educators' experience of WPLI. Content analysis was used to analyse, quantify and interpret the research data. The results indicated that educators experienced certain aspects in their work environment and personal lives as demanding. Certain dimensions were identified in both their work and personal lives. As a result of a demanding work environment, they experienced time and strain-based conflict between their work and personal lives. However, it was found that educators possessed various factors that facilitated their WPLI and strategies they used to deal with WPLI issues. This qualitative study treats the construction and maintenance of balance between work and private life and how flexibility in the workplace is perceived. The study was conducted using semi-structured interviews and these have been conducted in five large companies around Gothenburg. The analysis and results are based on the phenomenographic method approach and the final results were four themes: Balance, Flexibility, Combining family and work and lifelong learning with related subcategories. The result shows that the construction and maintenance of balance between work and personal life is something that is tied to the indi-viduals and the current situation in life. Two of the most common strategies to maintain a dis-tinction proved to be planning as well as other activities, in order to move the focus away from the work. In the larger picture flexibility of work turned out to be something that all re-spondents are in favor of, and not perceived as something stressful / Denna kvalitativa studie behandlar konstruerandet och upprätthållandet av balans mellan ar-bete och privatliv samt hur flexibilitet i arbetslivet uppfattas. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av semistrukturerade intervjuer och dessa har utförts på fem stora företag runt omkring Göteborg. Analysen och resultatet utgår från den fenomenografiska metodansatsen och slut-produkten blev fyra teman: Balans, Flexibilitet, Kombination familj och arbete samt Livslångt lärande med tillhörande underkategorier. Resultatet visar på att konstruerandet och upprätt-hållandet av balans mellan arbete och privatliv är någonting som är knutet till individerna och den nuvarande livssituationen. Två av de mest förekommande strategierna för att hålla en distinktion visade sig vara planering samt aktivera sig med annat för att flytta fokus bort från arbetet. Flexibilitet i arbetet visade sig på det stora hela vara någonting som alla respondenter ställer sig positiva till och inte uppfattar som någonting stressande

In the specific goals were scored in the life of the teacher's family, school life, the choice of teaching as a profession, the initial training course, entrance into the classroom as a teacher to continuing education and the construction of pedagogical approach to classes Physical education Critical Theory grounded in Emancipation. The methodology used is a qualitative one second Bauer, Gaskell and Allum (2003). The method used is the biographical - life story and the procedure for the collection of information will be the narrative interview. Through autobiographical narrative better understand the factors that led them to choose the profession teacher, how is the constitution of the training course teacher, as was the entry into the teaching and situations of family life that interfered in these events during life. For the analysis of the information obtained will use thematic analysis. Family life in childhood was marked by freedom, enrollment in school was in boarding school system. O objetivo é proporcionar uma aproximação com a história de vida de um professor de Educação Física atuante no curso de mestrado em Educação Física do Centro de Educação Física e Desportos (CEFD/UFSM). Nos objetivos específicos foram pontuados a vida em família do professor, a vida escolar, a opção pela docência como profissão, o curso de formação inicial, o ingresso em sala de aula como professor até a formação continuada e a construção da abordagem pedagógica para as aulas de Educação Física embasada na Teoria Crítico-Emancipatória. A metodologia utilizada será de cunho qualitativo segundo Bauer, Gaskell e Allum (2003). O método utilizado será o biográfico história de vida e o procedimento para a coleta de informações será a entrevista narrativa. Através da narrativa autobiográfica compreenderemos melhor os fatores que levaram a escolher a profissão professor, como se dá a constituição da trajetória formativa do professor, como foi o ingresso na docência e as situações da vida familiar que interferiram nesses fatos ocorridos durante a vida. Para a análise das informações obtidas utilizaremos a análise temática. A vida em família na infância foi marcada pela liberdade, o ingresso na escola foi no sistema de internato. No internato apresentado ao Atletismo e começa o interesse pela Educação Física. Gradua-se em Educação Física, faz especialização, mestrado e consegue a primeira bolsa de doutorado na Alemanha em Educação Física através do Goethe Institut. História de vida linda e emocionante permeada pela construção da trajetória profissional e sofridos períodos de distanciamento da família.

Trabalho docente, família e vida pessoal : permanências, deslocamentos e mudanças contemporâneas

Having the historical-critical and feminist epistemology (considering the context of the Brazilian northeastern society and the processes of productive restructuring of the university) this research aimed at knowing the displacements, changes and permanence in the spheres of work, family and personal life, which make it difficult and/or possible to have more egalitarian and equitable relations amongst genders and/or point to other patterns of sociabilit favor the articulation between private/public spheres and amongst teachers who work in the Brazilian public university of the state of Sergipe. As to the methodology, the qualitative research showed its relevance by means of the case study. Its empirical field was the Federal University of Sergipe/São Cristóvão Campus and its academic centers: CCSA, CCBS, CCET, CECH. To collect data, various sources were used to trace teachers‟ profile such as websites (CNPQ, Ministry of Science and Technology, SBPC, ANDIFES, Council of University Rectors, IBGE, PNAD) and the 2008 Statistical Yearbook of the Federal University of Sergipe. Many theoretical categories were investigated like labor sexual division, vertical and horizontal segregation, glass ceiling, degeneration of work, amongst others. The concentration of male and female occupational groups was identified in a population of 323 (60,6%) men and 210 (39,4%) women, adding up 533 (100%) teachers of the permanent personnel, in 2008. One hundred seven closed-ended questionnaires and fourteen open questionnaires were applied. The results inform that in the context of teaching work at the Federal University of Sergipe, the sexual division and the horizontal and vertical segregation still prevail, unveiling the parallel segregation which composes the tridimensional segregation. Therefore the ghetto remains in the Science area; it is stated that productivity and substitute work are primarily occupied by the female sex. The subjects‟ representations point to family responsibilities which, towards love and maternal duties, women are the ones to assume, and they do not identify themselves as feminists, they are winners and losers of reflection; gender stereotypes appear as an expression of prejudice. As to personal life, data point to the fact that women rest less than eight hours a day, assume quadruple working hours, and amongst married women such hours are associated with their taking care of their children and of themselves. It can be said that the traditional archetypes linked to patriarchy, to the roles directed to women (cooking, sewing and taking care of someone) were substituted by studying, working, loving, giving birth to a child or not, and taking care of him/her, the latter not necessarily related to marriage or heterosexuality. Men‟s roles as the boss of the family and its provider were also displaced due to women‟s participation in the labor market, the increase in their level of schooling, the deterioration of economy for one to support one‟s family or due to the intensification of consumerism and reflective maternity. So, articulating work, family and personal life is not only an issue for women. It is an issue for both men and women as procreators of human beings; for the State as it is a social matter, and therefore, must be the object of public policies; for the organizations as the object of actions which require social responsibility and for the society, organized from a perspective of collective performance aiming at fighting for egalitarian and equitable human rights. / Tendo como epistemologia a perspectiva histórico-crítica e feminista, (considerando o contexto da sociedade brasileira, nordestina e os processos de reestruturação produtiva da universidade) esta pesquisa objetivou conhecer os deslocamentos, as mudanças e permanências nos âmbitos do trabalho docente, da família e da vida pessoal, que dificultam e/ou possibilitam relações mais igualitárias, equitativas entre os gêneros e/ou que apontem outros padrões de sociabilidade favoráveis à articulação entre as esferas privada/pública, entre docentes que trabalham na universidade pública brasileira sergipana. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa qualitativa mostrou-se relevante por meio do estudo de caso. O campo empírico da pesquisa foi a Universidade Federal de Sergipe/Campus São Cristóvão e seus centros: CCSA, CCBS, CCET, CECH. Utilizaram-se várias fontes de coleta de dados como sites (CNPQ, Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia, SBPC, ANDIFES, Conselho de Reitores Universitários, IBGE, PNAD); o Anuário Estatístico 2008, da Universidade Federal de Sergipe para traçar o perfil das/os docentes. Foram trabalhadas várias categorias teóricas como divisão sexual do trabalho, segregação vertical e horizontal, teto de vidro, precarização do trabalho, entre outras. Identificou-se a concentração dos grupos ocupacionais masculinos e femininos na população de 323 (60,6%) homens e 210 (39,4%) mulheres, totalizando 533 (100%) docentes do quadro permanente, do ano de 2008. Foram aplicados 107 questionários fechados e 14 questionários abertos. Os resultados informam que no contexto do trabalho docente na UFS, permanece a divisão sexual, a segregação horizontal e vertical, descobrindo-se a segregação paralela compondo a segregação tridimensional; permanece o gueto nas ciências exatas; constata-se que a produtividade e o trabalho substituto são prioritariamente ocupados pelo sexo feminino. As representações dos sujeitos apontam com relação às responsabilidades familiares que, em nome do amor e do dever materno, as mulheres preponderantemente assumem tais responsabilidades, e não se auto identificam como feministas; são ao mesmo tempo vencedoras e perdedoras da reflexividade; verificam-se estereótipos de gênero como expressão do preconceito. Quanto à vida pessoal, os dados apontam que as mulheres descansam menos de 8 horas por dia, assumem uma quádrupla jornada de trabalho, e entre as mulheres casadas estas horas estão associadas ao cuidar dos filhos e de si mesmas. Constata-se que os arquétipos tradicionais ligados ao patriarcalismo, aos papéis direcionados à mulher (cozinhar, cozer e cuidar) foram substituídos por estudar, trabalhar, amar, procriar ou não, e cuidar, estes não necessariamente ligados ao casamento ou à heterossexualidade. Os papéis do homem como chefe da família e provedor, também sofreram deslocamentos resultantes da participação da mulher no mercado de trabalho, da elevação de seus níveis de escolaridade, do agravamento econômico para sustentar a família ou a intensificação do consumismo e da maternidade reflexiva. Assim, articular trabalho, família e vida pessoal não é uma questão só de mulheres. É uma questão de homens e de mulheres enquanto procriadores de seres humanos; do Estado, enquanto questão social, e assim, deve ser objeto de políticas públicas; das organizações, enquanto objeto de ações de responsabilidade social; da sociedade civil organizada numa perspectiva de atuação coletiva na luta por direitos humanos igualitários e equitativos.

Den analytiska förmågan - en gåva och en förbannelse / The analytical skill – a gift and a curse

Inledning: Psykoterapeuter har genom lång utbildning och kliniskt arbete övat upp en analytisk förmåga. Den förmågan består av dels förmågan till uppmärksamhet och iakttagelse, dels förmågan av analys av det som uppmärksammats. Detta är själva navet i det kliniska arbetet att kunna fånga upp både medvetna och omedvetna processer hos patienten för att terapi ska kunna bedrivas. Förmågan till iakttagelse och analys innefattar även den egna personen. Det innebär att terapeuten i arbetet inte bara är medveten om den andres inre processer utan även de egna inre procceserna. Frågeställningar: Denna studie syftar till att uppmärksamma hur terapeuten upplever den analytiska förmågan i sitt personliga liv för att undersöka om utbildning och arbete faktiskt har en djupare inverkan på privatlivet. Hur upplever terapeuterna att det är att leva med den kunskap och den medvetenhet som den psykoterapeutiska utbildningen och det fortsatt kliniska arbetet bidragit till? Vilka möjligheter och svårigheter bidrar det till? Kommer den analytiska förmågan att få konsekvenser även i terapeutens personliga liv och relationer? Hur hanteras dessa konsekvenser? Metod: Studien bygger på en kvalitativ metod med fenomenologisk och deskriptiv ansats. Fem legitimerade psykoterapeuter har intervjuats med kvalitativa intervjuer om de upplever att deras analytiska förmåga påverkar deras personliga liv. Intervjuerna transkriberades och analyserades med den kvalitativ metoden innehållsanalys. Resultat: Resultatet visar att den analytiska förmågan upplevdes i hög grad påverka terapeutens personliga liv. Detta resultat presenteras i form av fem kategorier och 14 underkategorier. De fyra kategorierna omfattar 1. hur fungerar den analytiska förmågan, 2. hur upplevs den, 3. hur används den, 4. hur kopplar psykoterapeuterna av från den och 5. hur påverkas identiteten. Ett övergripande tema som framträddeoch som fanns som en röd tråd genom alla intervjuer var att den analytiska förmågan upplevdes både som en gåva och en förbannelse. Diskussion: Det som framkommer i denna studie av hur psykoterapeuter upplever den analytiska förmågan i sina personliga liv överensstämmer med den tidigare forskning som gått att få fram. Terapeuterna upplever att deras yrkesfärdighet i allra högsta grad påverkar deras personliga liv, men upplever det framför allt som något positivt. Nackdelar framgår men fördelarna överväger.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to summarize theoretical knowledge and subsequent implementation of empirical research on the topic of Harmonization of Work and Personal Life. Based on the theoretical findings which are listed in the first part working hypotheses, approaches used in research methodology and tools selected for data collection were established. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey and interviews. It focuses on the allocation of priorities, perceptions of free time compared to working time, opinions on discrimination in the labor market and specific experience with this topic. In the practical part the results of the research are introduced. Subsequently, based on this research, the hypotheses are verified in the conclusion with suggestion of possible solutions to presented problems.

The other methods used in the Thesis were quantitative and qualitative research through questionnaire survey and individual personal interviews. Using these methods work came to conclusion, how to the respondents manage to harmonize their personal and professional lives, and if there is a difference in the results from a gender perspective.

Syftet med vår studie är att öka förståelsen för hur oregelbundna arbetstider påverkar livssituationen för undersköterskorna samt vilka konsekvenser som den oregelbundna arbetstiden medför i deras liv. Syftet preciseras i följande frågeställningar: Hur upplever undersköterskorna sin oregelbundna arbetstid? Vilka faktorer påverkar undersköterskornas arbetssituation? På vilket sätt påverkar den oregelbundna arbetstiden undersköterskornas balans mellan arbetsliv och privatliv? Vilka blir de hälsomässiga konsekvenserna av oregelbunden arbetstid? Utgångspunkten för vår studie ligger i den teoretiska referensramen innehållande tidigare forskning, teorier och begrepp om Arbetstidslagen, konsekvenser av oregelbunden arbetstid, arbetsmiljö, psykosocial arbetsmiljö, Krav- och kontrollmodellen, Work life balance, KASAM och utbrändhet. Vi har genomfört en kvalitativ studie där vi har använt oss av intervjuer för att samla in våra data. Sammanlagt har vi genomfört åtta intervjuer och våra respondenter är undersköterskor som arbetar på olika avdelningar inom Landstinget i Värmland. Våra respondenter är mellan 36 och 59 år gamla och samtliga av dem är kvinnor. Genom vår empiri och med hjälp av teorin har vi analyserat fram 17 olika fynd som visar på att: det finns både fördelar och nackdelar med oregelbunden arbetstid, det finns stora krav på flexibilitet i tillvaron, undersköterskorna har ett visst inflytande över den egna arbetstiden, de tvingas prioritera bort delar av privatlivet, det finns en stark sammanhållning mellan arbetskollegorna, det finns olika synsätt på arbetsschemat, de känner ett ansvar för bemanningen genom att överta varandras arbetspass, det finns ett skiftande stöd från närmaste chefen, det finns viss möjlighet att påverka arbetssituationen, arbetstiderna påverkar familjelivet negativt, det sociala livet blir åsidosatt, det finns en stark önskan om deltidsarbete, det finns både fördelar och nackdelar med oregelbunden arbetstid under småbarnsåren, det finns strategier för att hantera varierande dygnsrytm, det finns en upplevelse av otillräcklig sömn, magproblem i relation till nattarbete samt möjligt samband mellan oregelbunden arbetstid och utbrändhet. / The aim of our study is to increase understanding of how irregular hours affect the lives of nurses, as well as the implications of the irregular working hours brings into their lives. The purpose specified in the following questions: How do nurses his irregular working hours? What factors influence the nurses working situation? In what way does the irregular working hours for nurses balance between work and private life? What are the health consequences of irregular working hours?The starting point of our study lies in the theoretical framework containing previous research, theories and concepts of the Working Hours Act, consequences of irregular working hours, occupational health, psychosocial work, Requirements and control model, work life balance, SOC and burnout.We conducted a qualitative study where we have used the interviews to collect our data. In total, we conducted eight interviews and our respondents are nurses working in different departments of the County Council. Our respondents are between 36 and 59 years old and all of them are women.Through our empirical data and using the theory we have analyzed up 17 different findings show that: there are both advantages and disadvantages of irregular working hours, there are great demands on flexibility in existence, nurses have a certain influence over their own working hours, the forced to prioritize delete portions of privacy, there is a strong cohesion between work colleagues, there are different approaches to the work schedule, they feel responsible for manning by taking over each other's sessions, there is a range of support from her manager, there is some opportunity to influence the work situation , working hours affect family life negatively, the social life is infringed, there is a strong desire on part-time work, there are both advantages and disadvantages of irregular working hours during the toddler years, there are strategies to handle variable circadian rhythm, there is a perception of insufficient sleep, stomach problems in relation to night work as well as possible association between irregular working hours and burnout.

This thesis explores the balance between work and personal life and its impact on individuals' leisure time. The first part begins with a discussion of the issues surrounding work-life balance and then focuses on the phenomenon of leisure and its importance in the lives of individuals. In order to contextualize this discussion, this thesis presents the relevant theories in the field and identifies their role in the development of leisure time in relation to work. Folowing part examines the concept of work-life balance in organizations and identify the different means of realization, such as flexible work arrangements and employee benefits. Also included is an empirical study that is carried out through a questionnaire survey. This investigation is focused on the influence of work and its aspects on leisure time and work-life balance of university-educated individuals who are currently employed. This empirical study should contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between work and personal life regarding individuals leisure time. Výměna trenéra u vrcholových hráčů tenisu / Effect of coach change on professional tennis players

Title: Effect of coach change on professional tennis players Objectives of work: The aim of the thesis is to analyze the impact of coach change on professional tennis players from the psychology perspective, social relationship and player's attitude to the sport itself. The impact of the coach change on player's approach to tennis, game results, personal life and interpersonal relationships will be examined. Method: The methods that will be used are narrative interviews - annotated transcription technique, quantitative interview, analysis and comparison. Results: In the practical part of the dissertation, author answered five research questions through conducted research. Conducted research revealed that coach change affected tennis results of only one of the investigated probands. However, positive psychological impact of coach change was described by both probands. Neither of probands changed his training methods or their approach to tennis after the coach change. Team goals of one of the proband were not achieved, the second proband is still an active player and works on his sports career.
