La logistique de la Grande Distribution s'appuie sur une organisation multi-acteurs dont les principes de flexibilité et d'adaptabilité au moindre coût sont les leviers d'une performance fondée sur la substituabilité des Prestataires de Services Logistiques (PSL). Cette organisation entraine une dépendance stratégique des PSL vis à vis de la grande Distribution. Néanmoins, certains prestataires intègrent une démarche de Développement Durable. La problématique de la thèse est donc la suivante : Pourquoi et comment les Prestataires Logistiques intègrent-ils, volontairement, une politique de Développement Durable au sein de la chaîne logistique aval de la Grande Distribution ? Le cadre théorique s'appuie d'abord sur le modèle « Plug and Play » permet de caractériser la logistique de la Grande Distribution par la spécificité des actifs et une approche des contrats. Il est complété par la théorie du découplage et l'encastrement, selon de White, ce qui permet d'expliquer le caractère bloquant du modèle « Plug and Play » et d'action possible des PSL. La méthodologie choisie est une approche exploratoire abductive sous un positionnement constructiviste modéré. Elle s'appuie sur l'étude de cas approfondie d'une chaîne logistique aval d'une enseigne de la Grande Distribution et ses PSL. Une triangulation des méthodes mobilise essentiellement une démarche qualitative par le biais d'entretiens, mais également une enquête quantitative. Les résultats de la recherche montre dans le cas étudié que les PSL sont encastré dans le modèle « Plug and Play » de l'enseigne dont ils sont dépendants. En réaction, certains prestataires tentent de se découpler du « Plug and Play », en intégrant une démarche de Développement Durable, et de s'encastrer dans un modèle « Plug and Play » où le rapport de force entre PSL et l'enseigne est plus équilibré. / The Mass-market retailing logistics relies on an organization multi-actor whose principles of flexibility and adaptability to the lesser cost are the levers of a performance based on the substitutability of the logistics service providers (LSP). This organization leads to a strategic dependence of PSL with respect to the large distribution. However, some providers incorporate a sustainable development approach. The problematic of the thesis is as follows: Why and how logistics providers incorporate, voluntarily, a sustainable development policy within the outbound logistics chain of the Mass-market Retail? The theoretical framework is first based on the model "Plug and Play". It allows characterizing the logistics of the Mass-market Retailing by asset specificity and contract approach. It is complemented by the theory of decoupling and embeddedness, according to White, which helps to explain the blocking attribute of the "Plug and Play" model and possible action of LSP. The methodology chosen is an abductive exploratory approach in a moderate constructivist position. It relies on an in-depth case study of an outbound logistics of a Mass-market Retailing and its LSP. A triangulation of methods essentially mobilizes a qualitative approach through interviews, but also a quantitative survey. The results of the research show, in the case studied, that the LSP are embedded in logistics 'Plug and Play' of the trade, and on which they are dependents. In response, some providers attempt to decouple themselves from the 'Plug and Play', by integrating a sustainable development policy and embedded themselves in a model of “Plug and Play” where the power relations between LSP and the trade is balanced.

While shopping in a retail store today the customers are often interacting with multiple sale channels when making a purchase. These channels can include in‑store terminals, the customers’ smartphone etc. This thesis looks at how physical mobile interaction can be implemented to enhance the experience when using different channels for a purchase. Physical mobile interaction is a way for a user to interact with real world objects using a mobile device. This thesis examines how some of these techniques can be used in a retail store using the customers’ own smartphone device. With todays smartphone market with several different operating systems available it is important to find find an implementation which suits the majority of the users. This paper details which technologies that are available to implement the physical mobile interaction on the major smartphone platforms. It also discusses important design decisions for it to work on these platforms. The paper concludes that it is possible to implement these techniques on todays major smartphone platforms. It also concludes that the best technology can not always be used because of limitations on one or more platforms.

本研究主要探討藥妝零售產業提升預測顧客行為的模型與方法,並以RFM模型為基礎進行延伸。RFM模型在行銷領域中是廣泛被使用的模型,具有良好預測和分群顧客的能力,本研究在此模型中加入了兩項新指標:集中度 (C) 和 廣度 (B),並針對顧客的「交易頻率」和「交易利潤」進行分析,藉此找出優於RFM的指標組合。首先將RFM、C、B共五項指標進行排列組合,並以迴歸分析驗證新增的兩項指標能顯著提升模型解釋能力,接著將RFM指標組合及RFMCB指標組合分別作為機器學習方法的解釋變數以預測顧客行為。對顧客交易頻率而言,C和B兩項指標的加入能顯著提升其預測能力,對顧客交易利潤而言,新指標的加入,平均而言對於預測精準度有所提升,但在部分資料中會使誤差值增加以致整體誤差的最大值有所提升。 / This research proposes modeling techniques to better predict customer behaviors in the retail industry. Extending the widely-adopted RFM model in marketing, we introduce two new metrics – clumpiness (C) and breadth (B). Using more than two million transaction records from over 100 retail pharmacy stores in Taiwan, we fit a set of regression models, in which we assess the explanatory power of different combinations of RFMCB for customer purchase frequency and profitability. Our analysis shows that the RFM model is significantly inferior to models with C and/or B, suggesting that C and B are indeed promising metrics. In the next stage, we will apply machine learning methods to incorporate C and B into predictive models and assess their out-of-sample prediction performance. On Average, RFMCB outperforms RFM in predicting Frequency & Profit. However, there are some cases where RFMCB leads to larger prediction error.

Background: A sustainable economy becomes more and more important for most parts of the society. Especially the fashion industry is being criticized for wasting resources and being non-sustainable. Therefore, some textile producers started to implement programs that are aiming on a reuse of garments. Aims of research: The purpose of this research is to discover how customers can be motivated to return unwanted garments, also considering possible hindering factors. To gather this information it is necessary to build a theoretical framework with customer-based theories. The thesis explored how a second hand multi-brand retailer can take active action in encouraging customers to return unwanted textiles. Method: This research was conducted as an inductive qualitative research. The data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with several second hand retailers. The analysis was carried out following the Giogia method. Results: The thesis revealed that the garment disposal behavior is affected by various influences. Influences on the disposal behavior of garment consumers are personal values and believes. The dispose of unwanted garments is often influenced by an ease of handling and the same behavior is followed over the years simply because individuals are used to a certain garment disposal behavior. The largest hindering factors why customers do not return garments to retailers are caused by a lack of information as well as insufficient transparency. This behavior can be affected by second hand retailers by providing improved communication and a motivation to return garments by offering benefits for the customer. The size of the company does not play a major role.

This bachelor thesis explores a virtual try-on interface in the context of the fashion product category. It is argued that virtual representations of product offerings can stimulate consumers’ purchase intentions, and thus, enact an online transaction. The purpose is to investigate how market-based AR/VR influences the behavior of consumers along the customer journey. A qualitative research approach was undertaken to answer the exploratory question. The context of the empirical bachelor thesis is the virtual try-on Synsam Style Lab where two qualitative research methods were conducted. These methods consisted of a document study on Synsam Style Lab and three synchronous online focus group interviews that laid the foundation of the thematic analysis. The purpose of conducting these qualitative research methods was to shed light on whether or not Synsam Style Lab could facilitate consumers’ online buying decision process. Consumers who saw convenience in Synsam Style Lab often expressed reasons related to the theme Alleviate. On the contrary, if consumers interaction with Synsam’s virtual try-on yielded negative experience, then their reasons were often in connection with the theme Insufficiency. The context of this bachelor thesis is restricted to the fashion eyewear segment and does not represent the total fashion industry. Only members of Generation Y, also known as millennials, participated in the synchronous online focus group interviews. Therefore, incorporating the perspectives of other demographics could contribute to a diversified discovery of findings. Previous research has not explicitly investigated the influence of AR/VR applications on consumers’ engagement in a fashion retail setting. Hence, this bachelor thesis provides new dimensions within the field of market-based AR/VR applications.

This study seeks to explore and present how a dynamic pricing system can be delivered within an e-commerce setting. With insights from DynamicX, an intelligent dynamic pricing system organization, and through thematic analysis, the result is presented through four themes regarding e-commerce and dynamic pricing. The findings presented in the discussion related to the past, the present, and the future of dynamic pricing systems in e-commerce with a focus on context, technologies, and practices.

The Environmental Impact of E-commerce : A comparative analysis of CO2e emissions in e-commerce and traditional retailing / Miljöpåverkan av e-handel : En jämförande analys av CO2e-utsläpp inom e-handel och traditionell detaljhandelBladelius, Johanna, Volmerdal, Klara January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the environmental impact of e-commerce, considering the effects on CO2e emissions from transportation and implications on product packaging. Method: The research approach used in the study is an exploratory single case study design. The research questions were answered by using both qualitative and quantitative methods and the data collection methods used were interviews and document analyses in combination with a literature review. Findings: The study shows that there is no straightforward answer to whether e-commerce is a better option environmentally speaking or not since it very much depends on the context and circumstances. Regarding transportation, e-commerce and especially home delivery, emitted least CO2e emissions. It was also shown that electric cars were the most environmentally friendly option considering consumer trips. Regarding packaging, it was shown that e-commerce resulted in larger packages and thus more CO2e emissions and waste. Originality: The study contributes to an understanding of the environmental implications of e-commerce, and therefore, it can support companies in their progress toward becoming a more sustainable business. Limitations/delimitations: The study is limited to one case company and focuses on domestic deliveries within Sweden. Returns of products will not be included in any calculations. Emissions resulting from producing more packaging material, or the transportation of packaging material before usage, are not considered. Theoretical implications: The study contributes to existing research within the area since it covers a different context by studying a manufacturer and adds a new perspective by considering different fuels for consumer trips in the calculations. Managerial implications: Based on the result of the study practical suggestions for companies to reduce their environmental impact are presented, for example, implement a standard packaging procedure and outsource logistics activities to 3PL companies. / Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka miljöeffekterna av e-handel, med beaktande av effekterna på CO2e utsläpp från transport och konsekvenser för produktförpackningar. Metod: Forskningsmetoden som används i studien är en undersökande design för enstaka fallstudier. Forskningsfrågorna kan besvaras med både kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder och de datainsamlingsmetoder som använts är intervjuer och dokumentanalyser i kombination med en litteraturöversikt. Resultat: Studien visar att det inte finns något enkelt svar på om e-handel är ett bättre alternativ miljömässigt eller inte, eftersom det beror mycket på sammanhang och omständigheter. När det gäller transport, e-handel och särskilt hemleverans, släppte de ut minst CO2e utsläpp. Det visades också att elbilar var det mest miljövänliga alternativet med tanke på konsumentresor. När det gäller förpackningar visades det att e-handel resulterade i större paket och därmed mer CO2e utsläpp och avfall. Originalitet: Studien bidrar till en ökad förståelse för miljöpåverkan av e-handel, och kan därför stödja företag i deras framsteg mot att bli en mer hållbar verksamhet. Begränsningar: Studien är begränsad till ett fallföretag och fokuserar på inrikes leveranser inom Sverige. Retur av produkter ingår inte i några av beräkningarna. Utsläpp från produktion av mer förpackningsmaterial eller transport av förpackningsmaterial före användning beaktas inte. Teoretiska implikationer: Studien bidrar till befintlig forskning inom området eftersom den täcker ett annat sammanhang genom att studera en tillverkare och lägger till ett nytt perspektiv genom att beakta olika bränslen för konsumentresor i beräkningarna. Praktiska implikationer: Baserat på resultatet av studien presenteras praktiska förslag för företag för att minska sin miljöpåverkan, till exempel genom att implementera en standardiserad process för att paketering och lägga ut logistikaktiviteter till 3PL-företag.

With new ways of shopping, it could be assumed that not all actors within the retail sector will come out as winners. As the growth of e-commerce has been continuously rapid over many years, there is evidence for physical retailers suffering of sales losses.Behind every retailer stands a real estate owner that is reliant on the rental income ofits tenants, which could be assumed to be violated if the retailers are not resistant to the changes within the retail sector. If the income losses of the retailers are displaced to the real estate owners, it might have negative effects on the value of their retailproperties. This thesis investigates what effects the growth of e-commerce has onretail property values. The research questions of this research have been answered by interviewing real estate owners and property valuers with expertise on this topic. With basis of the results from the interviews, a case study has also been conducted on one of Stockholm´s mostprominent retailer – NK. Concluding the most obvious challenges and foresights from the real estate owner and the valuer´s perspective, three scenarios for valuing NK Stockholm was produced. It was concluded that real estate actors differ in their view of e-commerce. Some viewe-commerce and physical retail as complements, while some see them as opposites.They also have different strategies for how they work with growing e-commerce att heir physical retail areas. The different approaches are supposedly connected to how involved the real estate owners are with their retailers, and what retailers they have.The most prominent challenge is to create a retail space that attracts the righ tcustomers. The Food & Beverages Scenario was a middle way, where the real estate owner invested in new usages for the vacant retail spaces, restaurants and cafes. The cost of investment and the cost of maintenance and other operational costs, as there is more wear on restaurant spaces,will cause a decrease in value. The most prominent outtake of this research is how significant the strategy of the realestate owner is for the value. Real estate owners applying the “wrong” strategy in timesof structural changes, risk a decrease in their property values. / Med nya möjligheter att konsumera, kan det antas att inte alla aktörer inom detaljhandeln kommer ut som vinnare. Bakom varje detaljhandlare finns det en fastighetsägare som är beroende av hyresintäkter från sina hyresgäster, som riskerar att minska om detaljhandlarna inte kan hantera de strukturella förändringar som detaljhandeln genomgår. Denna uppsats undersöker vilka effekter som den ökade e-handeln har på detaljhandelsfastigheter. Grundat på resultatet från intervjuerna har en fallstudie på en av Stockholms mest välkända handelsvaruhus– NK Stockholm gjorts. En sammanfattning av de mest framstående utmaningarna och de framtidsspaningar som togs upp under intervjuerna, skapades tre olikascenarier för att värdera fastigheten som NK Stockholm ligger i. Från studien kan sammanfattas att fastighetsägarna har olika syn på e-handeln. Vissa ser e-handeln och den fysiska handeln som komplement, medan andra ser e-handeln och fysiska handeln som motpoler och i vissa fall direkta hot. De har också varierande strategier för hur de valt att arbeta mot ökad e-handel på deras fysiska handelsytor. De olika förhållningssätten ser ut att grunda sig på hur involverade fastighetsägarnaär i deras detaljhandelshyresgästers verksamheter, samt vilken typ av detaljhandelshyresgäster de har. De största utmaningarna är att skapa handelsytor som attraherar rätt besökare, bestämma vilka hyresgäster som ska ingå, samt vilka koncept som efterfrågas av besökarna. I fallstudiens första scenario förhöll sig fastighetsägaren relativt passiv, utan några direkta åtgärder i en situation där vakanserna ökade som en effekt av ökad e-handel.Utfallet blev att fastighetsvärdet minskade, allt annat lika, då intäkterna gått ner. Om fastighetsägaren istället jobbar med att anpassa ytorna och detaljhandelshyresgästerna för vad konsumenterna efterfrågar, visar det att intäkterna istället kommer att öka. I det andra scenariot, investerade fastighetsägaren i att hitta nya användningsområden för de vakanta ytorna såsom restauranger och caféer. Kostnaderna för investeringar av detta slag, sammanslaget med de ökade drift och underhållskostnaderna och ökat slitage på denna typ av ytor kommer att innebära en värdeminskning. Den mest framträdande lärdomen från denna uppsats är hur betydande den individuella fastighetsägarens strategier för sina respektive handelsytor är. Fastighetsägare som väljer “fel” strategi riskerar att tappa delar av sina fastighetsvärden.

Adjusting VMI settings for overlapping successive models, with stock-dependent demand and cannibalization: A case study in consumer electronics retailing in GermanyRoussel, Yann January 2012 (has links)
This thesis develops a method to optimize the inventory-related performance of a VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) in retailing environments, for two successive products with overlapping lifecycles, under stock-dependent demand. The study refers to existing research in different fields, such as inventory policies and VMIs, retailing of substitutable products, stock-dependent demands and product lifecycle management. However, no study encompassing all these research streams could be found, and thus an abductive approach is developed, aiming at building new theory. The thesis draws upon a case study at Sony Germany, which has started an ambitious VMI initiative with the largest retailer of consumer electronics products in Germany. First, stock and sales data available, along with insights collected among employees, is used to understand the key profit-drivers when lifecycles of the two products overlap, and a set of indicators is propounded to measure them. The pattern of sales in relation to inventories of the two products is studied, and results in the validation of the stock-dependent demand assumption, with demand following a Poisson distribution of parameter λ [on-hand stock]. Demand for the new product is also found to be negatively affected by stock levels of the old product, in an exponential way. Second, a model is built and a scenario- based simulation embedding the patterns previously established is performed to evaluate different strategies to steer the stock levels in the VMI. Scenarios are evaluated against the proposed set of indicators, but no scenario is found to over perform consistently the others. Nevertheless interesting patterns emerge and it is possible to relate the performance observed to specificities of scenarios and product contexts. Using the patterns identified, a set of guidelines is suggested, along with proposals for practical implementation.
