Helsinská konference a studená válka / The Helsinki Conference and the Cold War

Hannibal, Marek January 2013 (has links)
This Thesis is to examine the topic of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe which took place in 1973-1975. The proposals to convene the Security Conference date back to the fifties, when the Soviet Union called on the European countries to attend the Conference in order to resolve the security situation in Europe. During my research, I asked what motives were behind the invitation to convene the Conference and what caused the failure of these initiatives. I prove that the ultimate goal of the Soviet Union was not the conclusion of the collective agreement, but rather to weaken the West. In chronologic order I follow the development of the relations between the Warsaw Pact and the NATO in the sixties, which eventually led to the start of the Conference in 1973. I also describe interests of groups of countries during the Conference and analyze their role in the adoption of the Final Act.

Unisex is the new black : En kvantitativ studie i hur genusmedvetna konsumenters attityder kan gynna utformandet av fysiska servicelandskap / Unisex Is the New Black : A quantitative study in how attitudes of gender-conscious consumers can support the forming of physical servicescapes

Dahlbo, Evelina, Rehnberg, Edith January 2019 (has links)
Summary The purpose of this study is to identify customer attitudes among gender conscious Millennials to establish how physical service landscapes with a gender-neutral concept should be customized. Based on this information recommendations are formulated, accompanied by a model for businesses who intend to integrate a gender-neutral concept with their business profiles. This study will present theories regarding sex, gender and the gender-neutral concept, the consumer behaviour concept with a main focus on attitudes, as well as the physical servicescape. The methodology used in this study is of a quantitative character and the empirical material constitutes of a survey with a descriptive analysis. A total of 312 answers were submitted by the respondents of which 259 answers were relevant for the purpose of the study based on the established age range for Millennials; which in this study is consumers born 1980-2000. The choice of Millennials as the object of interest is based on previous research which has found that Millennials are a gender-sensitive generation, which means that they have a critical view on traditional and stereotypical gender segregation. This study can act as a physical base for companies and a theoretical base for researchers to further study the subject since the theory and empirical data indicates that the customer segment gender conscious Millennials have an interest of further implementation of the gender-neutral concept in companies in the clothing business. This study contributes with a foundation to a subject well worth further research since a multitude of tendencies indicates that a change is coming, where Millennials are a significant part of this structural change in society. So as not to lose the future customers, companies need to create an understanding for the core of the gender-neutral concept and realize that it’s not about limiting, but to open up design. To make everything allowed for everyone.

Application to neutral particle injection for ITER and to magnetron in high power pulsed regime

Revel, Adrien 05 June 2015 (has links)
A plasma is defined as a partially or completely ionized gas. Even though, they are very present in the visible universe, natural plasmas are rare on Earth. However, they are a major interest for industries and research institutes (surface treatment, spatial propulsion). Nevertheless, the understanding of plasma behavior is complicated because of the numerous physical fields involved. Moreover, theses plasmas can be magnetized, i.e., a magnetic field, external or induced, affects significantly the particle trajectories: r/L<1 where r is the Larmor radius and L the typical length of the system. This thesis is focused on the plasma modeling in two device: the accelerator of the ITER's neutral beam injector (NBI) and the magnetron in DC or HiPIMS regime. The feasibility of nuclear fusion on Earth is subject of numerous research around the world. Because of the energy necessary to get over the Coulomb barrier, the plasma must be confined. For ITER, the confinement is achieved by intense magnetic fields. However, to reach the required conditions of nuclear fusion reactions, especially in temperature, a high energy (1MeV) neutral beam injector is needed. The particle acceleration is a critical part in the creation of the neutral beam and it represents a technical challenge which is studied in this thesis work. The magnetron is an industrial process for creating thin film by physical sputtering. The ions created by a plasma discharge tear the atoms out of the cathode which are then deposited on the anode. The magnetic field created by permanent magnets trap the electrons near the cathode improving the process efficiency. The plasma behavior inside the magnetron is studied in direct and pulsed current as well as the appearance of self-organized structures in rotation around the magnetron axis. To study these devices, several program of numerical simulation have been developed. The Particle-In-Cell methode has been chosen because it takes into account, self-consistently, the space charge of the particules. Several techniques (null collision technique, Monte Carlo Collision, a posteriori Monte Carlo) and improvement (Non uniform mesh, third order charge projection) have been developed and implemented. Moreover, an original method, Pseudo 3D, allowing a three dimensional study of the magnetron, has been used with success. Finally, these programs have been parallelized to reduce the computation time.

Analysis of the rare decay B->K*ee at LHCb / Analyse de la désintégration rare B->K*ee dans l'expérience LHCb

Nicol, Michelle 05 December 2012 (has links)
The high bb cross section produced by the LHC offers an excellent opportunity for thestudy of flavour changing neutral current B decays, where the effects of new physics can be probed. This thesis presents an analysis of the rare decay B->K*ee which can be used to measure the polarisation of the photon in the b -> s transition. When the dilepton mass is low, the ee pair comes predominantly from a virtual photon, and the polarisation can be accessed via an angular analysis. It is predicted to be predominantly left handed in the Standard Model, and therefore an enhanced right handed amplitude would be a sign of new physics. A first step is to measure the branching fraction in the dilepton mass range, 30 MeV to 1 GeV. This decay has not yet been observed in this region, due to its small branching ratio. The analysis involves electrons with low transverse momentum, and is thus experimentally complex in the hadronic environment at the LHC. The branching ratio is measured relative to that of B->J/Psi(ee)K*, which eliminates both certain experimental effects, and the need to determine absolute effciencies. The result is obtained with an integrated luminosity of 1 fb-1 of pp collisions, collected by LHCb during 2011 and is found to be:B(B->K*ee)30-1000MeV = (3:19+0:75-0:68(stat) +/- 0:21(syst) =/-0.15(PDG) x10-7 when using the PDG value for the B->J/Psi(ee)K* branching ratio. The last part of the thesis presents Monte Carlo studies, showing that with the inclusion of the 2012 data sample, the expected sensitivity on the fraction of right handed polarisation is approximately 0.1, which is comparable with the world average obtained with different methods.

Study of Rare Charm Decays with the LHCb Detector at CERN / Etude de désintégrations charmées rares avec le détecteur LHCb au CERN

Kochebina, Olga 19 September 2014 (has links)
Rare charm decays proceed mostly through the c -> u Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC), which is possible only at loop level in the Standard Model (SM). In charmed decays, FCNCs are subject to a very efficient GIM suppression, leading to very rare processes. Consequently, rare charm decays are good tools to probe to New Physics (NP) beyond the SM. NP particles could become detectable by causing observables such as branching ratios and CP or angular asymmetries to deviate from the SM predictions. The main subject of this thesis is the measurement of the branching ratio of the D0 -> K-π+ ρ/ω (->µ+µ-) mode. It will be precious in the future, in particular as a normalization mode in the study of all: D0 -> h-h’+ µ+µ- decays D0 -> K-π+µ+µ-, D0 -> π+π-µ+µ-, D0 -> K+K-µ+µ- and D0 -> K+π-µ+µ-. Using 2/fb of 2012 LHCb data we find: B(D0 -> K-π+ ρ/ω (->µ+µ-)) = (4.37± 0.12(stat.) ±0.53(syst.)) ×10^-6. This is the first measurement of this mode. We also determined sensitivities to total and partial branching fractions and asymmetries in D0 -> h-h’+ µ+µ- decays with future LHCb datasets. In addition, the systematic uncertainties affecting the searches for the 3-body decays, D+(s) -> π+µ+µ- and D+(s) -> π-µ+µ+, carried out by LHCb based on the data collected in 2011 (1/fb). Finally, the results of the tests of front-end electronic board for the Upgrade of LHCb are presented.

Microscopie et spectroscopie de photodétachement; mesure de la section efficace de photodétachement de H- à 1064 nm par observation du comportement asymptotique du régime saturé / Photodetachment spectroscopy and microscopy; measurement of the photodetachment cross section of H- at 1064 nm by the observation of the asymptotic behaviour in the saturated regime

Vandevraye, Mickael 13 December 2013 (has links)
In this thesis, we initiate the demonstration, at a reduced scale, of the feasibility of the almost-complete laser photodetachment of negative hydrogen ion beams in a Fabry-Perot optical cavity for future neutral beam injectors for the heating of fusion power plants plasmas. We develop a new method to measure a photodetachement cross section, the knowledge of which at the exciting wavelength is needed to scale the Fabry-Perot cavity, based on the observation of the saturation in a pulsed lighting regime. The analytical calculus of the detachment signal growth produced while illuminating a negative ion beam with a Gaussian laser pulse bring out a mathematical constraint on the required flux to pass through the saturated regime. This constraint is the signature of the transition toward the saturation for all experiment carried out in Gaussian beam and for all linear light-matter interaction processes. With this method, we measure the photodetachement cross section of H- at 1064 nm – selected wavelength for future neutral beam injectors – in slight disagreement with theoretical predictions. To reduce the technological requirement on the Fabry-Perot cavity and the laser, we study Landau resonances which appear in the photodetachement spectrum. Locking the laser on one of these resonances would allow increasing the photodetachment probability at a given flux.We also present our phosphorus, selenium and tin electron affinity measurements carried out with the photodetachment microscope. The photodetachment microscopy experiment of phosphorus is the first one where the neutral atom is left in an excited term.

Impacto da variabilidade populacional na degradabilidade ruminal in situ em touros alimentados com forragens de baixa qualidade / Impact of animal variability on in situ ruminal degradability in bulls fed low quality forages

Lima, Janaina Rosolem 15 April 2015 (has links)
In situ studies are general carried out with a few number of animals and there are few trials that inquire the impact of animal variability on these results. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of animal population variability on fractional disappearance rate (kd) of DM, NDF, ADF and cellulose (CEL). Experiment using thirty ruminally canullated Nellore bulls (372 ± 16.02 kg BW) was carried over. In phase 1, all animals received 100% Coast-cross hay with mineral mix ad libitum. In period 2, all animals received a diet containing 88% sugarcane bagasse, 8% soybean meal, 2.8% mineral mix and 1.2% urea (DM basis). In both trials, representative samples of Coast-cross hay (CCH - 7.31% CP, 78.24% NDF, 40.92% ADF), sugarcane bagasse (BAG - 3.04% CP, 90.31% NDF, 69.36% ADF) and Tifton-85 hay (TH - 13.32% CP, 73.27% NDF, 39.29% ADF) were incubated in polyamide-bags (10 cm × 20 cm; 30 ± 10 μm pore size) for 0, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 144 h. Bags were suspended in the rumen ventral sac before at feeding in reverse order and removed simultaneously at time zero. Residual DM, NDF, ADF, and lignin were determined by wet chemistry. Cellulose (CEL) was calculated as ADF minus lignin. Ruminal degradation kinetics of DM, NDF, ADF, and CEL were calculated using a nonlinear model Y(t) = a + b (1 - e(-kd × t) ); where t >= 0. Feeding behavior parameters (eating, ruminating, water drinking and idling) were recorded every 10 minutes during 24 h. Principal component analysis was used to determine correlation of variables among substrates. Factorial Analysis was used to characterize animal population (P<0.05), Cluster with Multivariate Contrasts (P<0.01) to analyze differences in kd groups and Multivariate Canonical correlation analysis (P<0.05) to correlate kd with feeding behavior parameters. A simulation with number of animals was done against coefficient of variation (CV) to determinate optimum number of animals in an in situ assay. The kd (average) of DM, NDF, ADF, and CEL were: 3.26, 3.29, 3.44 and 3.54 for CCH; 3.74, 3.88, 4.07 and 4.49 for TH; and 2.67, 2.68, 2.58 and 2.65 for BAG, respectively. There was no correlation among substrates in both periods. Were found three groups of kd for CCH and TH (high, medium and low) and four groups for BAG (high, medium-high, medium, and low). CV is not adequate to measure experimental precision, instead it, variation index is indicated (VI). In both incubations phases, there was no relationship between feeding behavior and kd, for all incubated forages sources. The kd correlations among substrates between two incubation phases were different, indicating influence of the diet on kd. Variability investigation and VI parameter indicate that the number of animals necessary in these trials is affected by the substrate incubated. However, the variability investigation suggests that probably different animals compose this number.

Le Président de la république portugaise : la construction de la figure présidentielle portugaise depuis 1986 / The President of the Portuguese Republic : The construction of the portuguese presidential figure since 1986

Canelas Rapaz, Paulo José 06 December 2012 (has links)
This doctoral dissertation tells what the President of the Portuguese Republic is and gives it a name. To this end, it shows how the Portuguese presidential figure has built itself since 1986, since the Portuguese democracy has no more been under the “shadow of swords”. To reach this goal, the dissertation begins by focusing on the president’s legitimacy, direct but unpartisan. Its particular legitimacy cannot be understood without referring to Portugal’s political and constitutional history which went through fragmented parliamentarism and personal dictatorship. Then it considers the presidential position within the Portuguese constitutional framework using its powers and looking into its relations with the Government as a function and as an organ. If the Portuguese presidency does not fix the country general policy, it does take part in the State’s will formation due to the emergence of a proper magistracy. Speech and field acts have given a reality to the President beyond the constitutional purview. Finally, this doctoral dissertation infers the qualification of the Portuguese political regime and ends by naming the Portuguese presidential figure, as it has been built and as it has been built itself.

Dinâmica de populações e comunidades de borboletas e aves ao longo do tempo / Population and community dynamics of butterflies and birds over time

Candia-Gallardo, Carlos 27 April 2017 (has links)
The species abundances and identities of any biological community change both over space and time. Nevertheless, Spatial biodiversity dimensions have been much more exploited than temporal ones. One of the reasons for which temporal patterns have received less attention is a scarcity of long-term studies, especially in the neotropical region, one of the most biodiverse and endangered on the planet. Studying the dynamics of populations and communities over time can reveal key ecological processes as well as describe how natural and human pressures affect biodiversity. Understanding the dynamics of populations and communities involves understanding organisms life histories, how they interact with the environment, the role of interactions among species, the role of stochastic demographic processes, and other factors. In this dissertation we investigated the temporal dynamics of butterflies and birds populations and assemblages, and throughout its chapters we evaluate the role of different processes in the regulation of dynamics. In Chapter 1 we investigated whether a seasonal behavior observed in butterflies Ithomiini (Nymphalidae, Danainae), supposedly adaptive to dissecation - the \"Ithomiini pockets \" - is a simple reactive response to drought or there is internal time-keeping mechanisms involved. In Chapter 2, we performed a comparative population dynamics study of mimetic butterflies of the Ithomiini tribe. Some evidence has suggested that besides the convergence in morphology, co-mimetic species would tend to converge also in behavior, in the use of microhabitats and possibly in their population dynamics. We hypothesized that (1) pairs of co-mimetic species or (2) pairs of species more phylogenetically related would have their population dynamics more correlated than pairs of species grouped at random. In Chapter 3 we described how species composition of bird and butterfly assemblages from nine tropical and subtropical locations in South and North America varied over time (years and decades), and if demographic differences between species (niche) are needed to explain observed patterns. In Chapter 1 we found evidence that Ithomiini pockets are regulated by internal time-keeping mechanisms synchronized to photoperiod, and that mechanism has limited plasticity to cope with rainfall regime changes predicted for the study region and for the continent as a whole. In Chapter 2 we found that the population dynamics of Ithomiini species pairs more phylogenetically related or belonging to the same mimetic ring did not tend to be more correlated than pairs assembled at random, and that the species, mimetic rings and subtribes had their temporal dynamics more correlated than would be expected By chance These results and those of Chapter 1 suggest that this system dynamics is more influenced by selective pressures exerted by environmental factors than by species interactions. In Chapter 3 we show that the composition of bird assemblages in the Amazon, Cerrado, Atlantic Rainforest, and Florida has changed over the years, even in assemblies of well-preserved areas. Superimposed to this interannual turnover we also found seasonal, predictable turnover in species composition of bird assemblages of the Amazon and Atlantic Forest and in the Ithomiini butterflies assembly. Patterns of seasonal turnover in species composition may be more common in neotropical communities than is imagined. The temporal strategies of neotropical organisms, which appear to be the basis of the seasonal patterns observed in communities, can be largely determined by endogenous rhythms (\"biological clocks\"). Studies on the regulation of organisms\' temporal rhythms and strategies, and the effects of climate change and land use on them, are essential. An important step in this direction is the dissemination of continuous, systematic, population and community long-term studies, with sampling resolution to detect seasonal patterns. In addition, the interaction of perspectives, theoretical basis, and approaches of molecular biology, physiology, chronobiology, and ecology can advance our understanding of the processes that shape biodiversity dynamics and the consequences of human disturbances on ecosystems

We aim to demonstrate that there is a story behind a set of apparently unrelated stories and that what bundles these stories is not only the symbolic description or records of an important period of the history of Brazil, but also, despite its incipient literary load, the path a man must necessarily follow in order to accomplish his journey under the absurdity of the world. When we think about writing and surviving in Cartas da prisão [Letters from prison], by Frei Betto, we try to identify, in this tug-‐of-‐war, in what measure would there be a movement of dynamic balance of the origin of the author in the denial of death. For the high degree of subjectivity we aim for here, Roland Barthes' concept of Neutral has proved to be an efficient methodology, having provided us with the attribute of the impasse and, therefore, the right to news paths, the access to surprising answers and, above all, a sparkling creative-‐critical-‐aesthetic experience, to use an expression of Barthes himself. The lucidity that ties Sisyphus to his destiny under the huge rock of his condemnation or Camus to his human rebellion in face of the race condemnation is of the same order of the one that connects Betto to literature and which represents his only real possibility of achieving true freedom: through consciousness / A presente dissertação representa a busca por uma narrativa.
