Description non linéaire auto-cohérente de la propagation d'ondes radiofréquences et de la périphérie d'un plasma magnétisé / Self-consistent non-linear description of radio-frequency wave propagation and of the edge of a magnetized plasma

Jacquot, Jonathan 20 November 2013 (has links)
A correct understanding of the interactions between the edge plasma and the ion cyclotron (IC) waves (40-80MHz) is needed to inject reliably large amount of power required for self-sustainable fusion plasmas. These thesis objectives were to model separately, with Comsol Multiphysics, but in compatible approaches the wave coupling and the radio-frequency (RF) sheath formation to anticipate development of a single code combining both. Modelling of fast wave coupling requires a detailed description of the antenna (2D or 3D) and of the plasma environment by a full wave approach for a cold plasma. Absorption of outgoing waves is emulated by perfectly matched layers, rendered compatible with a plasma dielectric tensor. Experimental trends for the coupling resistance of the antennas of Tore Supra are qualitatively reproduced but the coupling efficiency is overestimated. In parallel a novel self-consistent description, including RF sheaths, of the interplay between the cold wave propagation and DC biasing of the magnetized edge plasma of a tokamak was developed with the minimum set of physics ingredients. For Tore Supra antenna cases, the code coupled with TOPICA allowed to unveil qualitatively some unexpected observations on the latest design of Tore Supra Faraday screens whose electrical design was supposed to minimize RF sheaths. From simulations, a DC (Direct Current) current transport appears necessary to explain the radial structures of measurements. Cantilevered bars have been identified as the design element in the antenna structure enhancing the plasma potential

Large Eddy Simulation/Transported Probability Density Function Modeling of Turbulent Combustion: Model Advancement and Applications

Pei Zhang (6922148) 16 August 2019 (has links)
<div>Studies of turbulent combustion in the past mainly focus on problems with single-regime combustion. In practical combustion systems, however, combustion rarely occurs in a single regime, and different regimes of combustion can be observed in the same system. This creates a significant gap between our existing knowledge of combustion in single regime and the practical need in multi-regime combustion. In this work, we aim to extend the traditional single-regime combustion models to problems involving different regimes of combustion. Among the existing modeling methods, Transported Probability Density Function (PDF) method is attractive for its intrinsic closure of treating detailed chemical kinetics and has been demonstrated to be promising in predicting low-probability but practically important combustion events like local extinction and re-ignition. In this work, we focus on the model assessment and advancement of the Large Eddy Simulation (LES)/ PDF method in predicting turbulent multi-regime combustion.</div><div><br></div><div><div>Two combustion benchmark problems are considered for the model assessment. One is a recently designed turbulent piloted jet flame that features statistically transient processes, the Sydney turbulent pulsed piloted jet flame. A direct comparison of the predicted and measured time series of the axial velocity demonstrates a satisfactory prediction of the flow and turbulence fields of the pulsed jet flame by the employed LES/PDF modeling method. A comparison of the PLIF-OH images and the predicted OH mass fraction contours at a few selected times shows that the method captures the different combustion stages including healthy burning, significant extinction, and the re-establishment of healthy burning, in the statistically transient process. The temporal history of the conditional PDF of OH mass fraction/temperature at around stoichiometric conditions at different axial locations suggests that the method predicts the extinction and re-establishment timings accurately at upstream locations but less accurately at downstream locations with a delay of burning reestablishment. The other test case is a unified series of existing turbulent piloted flames. To facilitate model assessment across different combustion regimes, we develop a model validation framework by unifying several existing pilot stabilized turbulent jet flames in different combustion regimes. The characteristic similarity and difference of the employed piloted flames are examined, including the Sydney piloted flames L, B, and M, the Sandia piloted flames D, E, and F, a series of piloted premixed Bunsen flames, and the Sydney/Sandia inhomogeneous inlet piloted jet flames. Proper parameterization and a regime diagram are introduced to characterize the pilot stabilized flames covering non-premixed, partially premixed, and premixed flames. A preliminary model assessment is carried out to examine the simultaneous model performance of the LES/PDF method for the piloted jet flames across different combustion regimes.</div><div><br></div><div>With the assessment work in the above two test cases, it is found that the LES/PDF method can predict the statistically transient combustion and multi-regime combustion reasonably well but some modeling limitations are also identified. Thus, further model advancement is needed for the LES/PDF method. In this work, we focus on two model advancement studies related to the molecular diffusion and sub-filter scale mixing processes in turbulent combustion. The first study is to deal with differential molecular diffusion (DMD) among different species. The importance of theDMD effects on combustion has been found in many applications. However, in most previous combustion models equal molecular diffusivity is assumed. To incorporate the DMD effects accurately, we develop a model called Variance Consistent Mean Shift (VCMS) model. The second model advancement focuses on the sub-filter scale mixing in high-Karlovitz (Ka) number turbulent combustion. We analyze the DNS data of a Sandia high-Ka premixed jet flame to gain insights into the modeling of sub-filter scale mixing. A sub-filter scale mixing time scale is analyzed with respect to the filter size to examine the validity of a power-law scaling model for the mixing time scale.</div></div>

Réponse linéaire dynamique et auto-cohérente des atomes dans les plasmas quantiques : photo-absorption et effets collectifs dans les plasmas denses / Self-consistent dynamical linear response of atoms in quantum plasmas : photo-absorption and collective effects in dense plasmas

Caizergues, Clément 24 April 2015 (has links)
In modeling dense and partially ionized matter, the treatment of the free electrons remains an important issue. Compared to bound electrons, the delocalized and non-discrete nature of these electrons is responsible to treat them differently, which is usually adopted in the modelings of radiative properties of plasmas. However, in order to avoid inconsistencies in the calculation of absorption spectra, all the electrons should be described in the same formalism. We use two variational average-atom models: a semi-classical and a quantum model, which allow this common treatment for all the electrons. We calculate the photo-extinction cross-section, by applying the framework of the linear dynamical response theory to each of these models of an atom in a plasma. For this study, we develop and use a self-consistent approach, of random-phase-approximation (RPA) type, which, while going beyond the independent electron response, permits to evaluate the collective effects by the introduction of the dynamical polarization. This approach uses the formalism of the time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT), applied in the case of an atomic system immersed in a plasma. For both models, semi-classical and quantum, we derive and verify in our calculations, a new sum rule, which allows the evaluation of the atomic dipole from a finite volume in the plasma. This sum rule turns out to be a crucial device in the calculation of radiative properties of atoms in dense plasmas.

Traitement quantique original des interactions inélastiques pour la modélisation atomistique du transport dans les nano-structures tri-dimensionnelles / Original quantum treatment of inelastic interactions for modeling of atomistic transport in three-dimensional nanostructures

Lee, Youseung 18 October 2017 (has links)
Non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism during recent decades has attracted numerous interests for studying quantum transport properties of nanostructures and nano-devices in which inelastic interactions like electron-phonon scattering have a significant impact. Incorporation of inelastic interactions in NEGF framework is usually performed within the self-consistent Born approximation (SCBA) which induces a numerically demanding iterative scheme. As an alternative technique, we propose an efficient method, the so-called Lowest Order Approximation (LOA) coupled with the Pade approximants. Its main advantage is to significantly reduce the computational time, and to describe the electron-phonon scattering physically. This approach should then considerably extend the accessibility of using atomistic quantum transport codes to study three-dimensional (3D) realistic systems without requiring numerous numerical resources.

Estudo das propriedades de densidades superficiais de cargas via cálculos auto-consistentes / Study of properties of superficial charge densities via self-consistent calculations

Pereira, Marcia da Costa 23 August 1989 (has links)
The formation of electric charged layers outside liquid Helium and outside films are well understood experimentally as well as theoretically. But, until today, there was not a self-consistent calculation for these electronic layers because, at low densities, these system can be treated as a one-electron problem. In this work we have included the many-body effects using the Hartree-Fock approximations and, via self-consistent calculations, we pointed out that these effects are relevants for densities above 108 e/cm2 for liquid Helium and 103 e/ cm2 for Helium films. We also have calculated the electronic mobility due to different scattering mechanisms: electron-ripplon and electron-vapour interactions. Using our self-consistents calculations we have obtained results that fit very well the experimental data, at high densities

Consistent initialization for index-2 differential algebraic equations and its application to circuit simulation

Schwarz, Diana Estévez 13 July 2000 (has links)
For solving DAEs numerically, consistent initial values have to be calculated. This thesis deals with an approach for handling this problem for index-2 DAEs by considering projectors onto the spaces related to the DAE. There are two major aspects in this work.\\ On the one hand, new structural properties are deduced from weak assumptions. Subsequently, a method is proposed to choose suitable equations of an index-2 DAE, whose differentiation leads to an index reduction. This index reduction yields new theoretical results for the existence and uniqueness of solutions of index-2 DAEs which apply to a wider class of applications than previous results. Based on this method, a step-by-step approach to compute consistent initial values is developed. In this way, we gain new insights about how to deal with structural properties of index-2 DAEs. In particular, it turns out that, in comparison to index-1 DAEs, the additional step that has to be undertaken in practice often consists in solving a linear system. The numerical consequences of this fact are exemplified for two methods commonly used in circuit simulation, the implicit Euler method and the trapezoidal rule.\\ On the other hand, the application of the obtained results to the equations arising in circuit simulation by means of the modified nodal analysis (MNA) is worked out. Finally, a short overview of the specifics of their realization is given.

Étude expérimentale et modélisation micromécanique du comportement de composites hybrides : optimisation de la conductivité thermique / Experimental characterization and micromechanical modelling of the behavior of hybrid composite : optimization of the thermal conductivity

Jeancolas, Antoine 20 November 2018 (has links)
The increase of electronic components in the integrated circuits and the required electrical power set the question of the dissipation of the heat generated. The electrical box must favor the heat dissipation while maintaining electrical insulation. The solution chosen to transfer the heat is to develop composite materials whose reinforcements by their structure will improve the thermal conductivity. Polymer-based composite materials were chosen for their building ability. Thermal conductivity and electrical insulation are insured by ceramic reinforcements. The homogenization methods allow to improve the composites’ design according to the properties of their constituents, their geometry and their distribution. They thus provide an optimized formulation of materials satisfying the characteristics emanating from the industrial partner (‘Institut de Soudure’). The expected thermal conductivity of the composites imposes a high volume fraction of reinforcements to counterbalance the insulating polymer matrix. Homogenization methods have been developed to provide predictions of effective thermal conductivity for high (greater than 20%) reinforcement rates and high thermal conductivity contrasts. The presence of an interphase resulting from strong physico-chemical incompatibilities between the components must also be modeled

L'influence des normes supranationales sur le droit du travail français / The influence of supranational standards over french labour law

Guyon, Charles 05 December 2015 (has links)
No one is deemed ignorant of the law… including supranational standards. The “censure” of the provisions relating to the “new hiring” employment contract vigorously demonstrated so. The influence of supranational standards has never been so strong: they progressively cover all of the fields of French Labour Law. All stakeholders, whether public or private, need to look beyond French borders. The stated aim is to control the spread of supranational standards, without which there is no acceptance by its recipients, and apprehend the resulting transformations of French Labour Law. New legal methodologies and instruments need to be implemented in this respect.

Kriskommunikation i ett förändrat medielandskap

Lindström, Anna, Nina, Åkermark January 2010 (has links)

Theoretical Studies of Two-Dimensional Magnetism and Chemical Bonding

Grechnyev, Oleksiy January 2005 (has links)
<p>This thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part we study thermodynamics of the two-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet with dipolar interaction. This interaction breaks the conditions of the Mermin-Wagner theorem, resulting in a finite transition temperature. Our calculations are done within the framework of the self-consistent spin-wave theory (SSWT), which is modified in order to include the dipolar interaction. Both quantum and classical versions of the Heisenberg model are considered.</p><p>The second part of the thesis investigates the chemical bonding in solids from the first principles calculations. A new chemical bonding indicator called balanced crystal orbital overlap population (BCOOP) is developed. BCOOP is less basis set dependent than the earlier indicators and it can be used with full-potential density-functional theory (DFT) codes. We apply BCOOP formalism to the chemical bonding in the high-T_c superconductor MgB2 and the theoretically predicted MAX phase Nb3SiC2. We also study how the chemical bonding results in a repulsive hydrogen–hydrogen interaction in metal hydrides. The role of this interaction in the structural phase transition in Ti3SnHx is investigated.</p>
