Sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária : desempenho de novilhos superprecoces e variabilidade espacial do pasto / An integrated crop livestock system: performance of early finished beef steers and sward spatial variability

Wesp, Cristiane de Lima January 2010 (has links)
The introduction of cattle into areas destined for grain crop production enables maximizing income from the system and can benefit the subsequent grain crop provided grazing intensity is managed properly. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different grazing intensities on animal performance, sward spatial variability and soil penetration resistance within in a crop-livestock system. The treatments consisted of four grazing sward heights, 10, 20, 30 and 40 cm, and no grazing (NG), in a sward of black oat and annual ryegrass grown in succession with soybean. The study was conducted from May to November 2008, near Tupanciretã, RS, Brasil. Beef steers (Angus x Hereford x Nellore) with average initial weight of 203 ± 1.7 kg were distributed in a randomized complete block design, with three replications, where they grazed for 122 days. The observed average sward heights for the five treatments were 14.1; 22.6; 32.0; 41.1 and 45.0 cm, respectively. Herbage mass, herbage allowance and residual straw responded positively and linearly to increasing sward heights (P≤0.0001). Average daily gain, slaughter live weight, and carcass characteristics of the steers showed a quadratic response and were optimal in the 30 cm sward height treatment (P≤0.0305). The shorter sward heights provided higher total animal gain per area, due to the associated higher stocking rates. The presence of grazing animals resulted in spatial variability of sward heights at the end of the grazing cycle. The same was observed for soil penetration resistance, particularly in the surface layers of the soil. The soil penetration resistance showed the effect of animal traffic to a depth of 0.20 m, which increased with increasing grazing intensities. The results suggest that maintaining grazed sward heights near 30 cm provides better individual animal gains by the increasing amount of forage available per animal, while not compromising the residual straw remaining for the subsequent grain crop and without inducing excessive soil compaction.

Santana, Gilvan da Costa 27 April 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The written Portuguese Language teaching should imply the analysis of expressive features present in each individual context. This is the need to approach writing as a process, the result of a process of reflection on language and knowledge of the constitution and functioning of the language. What should carry is a productive education for the acquisition and improvement of language skills. To achieve the objectives of this project, have been developed as primarily theoretical studies involving the following: speech genres and multimodality; portuguese language teaching from the perspective of the PCN; processes, resources and referral mechanisms. That said, in this TCF, it is made a reflection on language and its realization, starting with texts, referring expressions and situations of construction of textuality. All this culminates in the didactic proposal to provide the contact opportunity of students with referral as a discursive process of building texts, making use of activities that lead students to operate this feature. The use of referral is one of the common problems in the establishment of cohesion and coherence in texts produced by students of ninth grade. With our experience, we aim to contribute to understanding and application of such a process towards collaboration in search of resolving difficulties of teacher and student in didactic teaching approach in terms of this aspect of textual production. Along the way, we come to some very relevant clarifications. Highlighting them: on anaphora as referral process, we need to deconstruct the idea that conceives the pronoun as the only part of speech that can be constituted as anaphoric; anaphora is a textual semantic phenomenon not only coreferential (direct anaphora - cotextual) but also inferential (indirect anaphora - contextual); key is to be built significant referral chains, establishing cohesive unit through this procedure.

REGULACE CEN NA TRHU LÉČIV / Regulation of pharmaceutical prices

Klingerová, Eliška January 2012 (has links)
This study is aimed at analyzing the effectiveness of state intervention in the form of pharmaceutical external price referencing (EPR) in selected EU countries, as well as the description of drug policy and EPR in the analyzed countries. Among the analyzed countries, the United Kingdom and Sweden have been selected as representatives who don't use EPR regulation. On the other hand, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands are countries that regulate using EPR. The prices of selected pharmaceutical products in all of those states are converted into producer prices, on which most countries concentrate EPR. Prices are analyzed after the conversion of nominal and real exchange rates. The lowest prices are found in the Netherlands and the UK. This proves that EPR doesn't bring lower prices for medicine in the countries which use it. Further rankings vary based on the exchange rates used. The paper also analyzes the achievement of price ceilings in the Czech Republic, where the maximum prices set by regulators of EPR (including VAT) are compared with the average prices in pharmacies. All analyzed medicinal product prices are below the ceilings, which also proves the ineffectiveness of this intervention.

Porto, Edilma Messias 17 December 2013 (has links)
The study of indirect anaphora leads to rethink the issue of anaphoric processes used in textual productions. The very coherence shall be taken as a principle of interpretation Marcuschi (2005) and, in the interim of this assertion, the indirect anaphoras are considered important in the construction of meanings and textual progression. The indirect anaphoras as noted Marcuschi (2005) have in cognitive processes and strategies to inferentially decisive basis in the activity of textualization. The use of anaphoric processes was also present in the texts constructed by the students in the classes of the course offered at the Youth Apprentice - Senac Sergipe. However, these uses occurred in different ways for young people with different levels of education. It is in this context that we seek the theoretical linguistics textual to discuss issues such as referencing objects of discourse, indirect anaphora, the anchor, the consistency considered important in the discussion of the use of process reference. Work guided by the points of view of Marcuschi (2005), Mondada; Dubois (2003), Koch (2009), Cavalcante (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) of the light reflected on such theoretical ratio between the greater or lesser use of anaphora and indirect schooling of learners. Before we draw primarily theoretical postulates some considerations on the historical linguistics Textual because we believe that some anaphoric processes are still in line with the theoretical discussions of the first and second phase of LT also opened space to discuss the notions of text, context and subject adopted in our work. Then we discuss the referral as discursive activity to reflect on it from the anaphora, specifically, indirect, beyond the role of anchors in the construction of coherence. In order for us are guided in identifying indirect anaphora in texts of learners adopts the proposed classificatory Marcuschi (2005) which was briefly discussed. Therefore, we point out the methodological steps followed for the analysis of texts and, finally, we analyze the productions of the learners in order to track the extent to which greater or lesser use of indirect anaphora is influenced by education level of the learners. In this context, this research is configured as qualitative, given the discursive analysis of the greater or lesser use of indirect anaphora in the corpus of the work.

A study of high school students' source use in the Swedish national writing test

Karlsson, Anna January 2020 (has links)
This paper examines the written national test in courses Swedish 1 and Swedish 3. The study aims to find out how students handle sources to learn how they are equipped for further studies and/or a life in today's information society. In total, 40 essays have been searched for copying, patchwriting, quotes and source references. The results show that many students reuse language from their sources by copying or by making minor changes to the source language. This tendency occurs at all grades in both Swedish 1 and Swedish 3, although patchwriting and the number of words in copied strings generally decrease in the higher grades. In cases where students use quotes, almost half are incorrect, mainly because of proofreading errors. In both Swedish 1 and Swedish 3, the source references are often incomplete. This is especially true for the lower grades, whereas all essays that received A’s in both courses contain complete source references. Nevertheless, it is not always clear to the reader when information from the source is presented, as some students do not differentiate between their own and others' thoughts. Unclear source usage occurs only at grades F and E in Swedish 3, but in Swedish 1 it also occurs at grades C and A.

Transforming Performances: An Intern-Reseacher's Hypertextual Journey in a Postmodern Community

Bava, Saliha 18 January 2002 (has links)
I present the dissertation web as a montage of a postmodern inquiry of my doctoral internship and research experiences—concerns and jubilation—positioned within the discourses of <a href="site_map2.htm#2">postmodern</a>, dissertation, academia, experimentalism and cyberspace innovations among others. I create a <a href="site_map2.htm#3">social constructionistic</a> interactive interplay, using <a href="site_map2.htm#5">hypertext</a>, among my various voices of an intern, a researcher and a person. In the dissertation web—my inquiry—I practice the characterization of postmodernism on numerous fronts—subject of study, context of study, methodology and re-presentation of the inquiry. Implicitly and explicitly, I articulate the various characterizations of postmodernism in my inquiry by challenging the traditional research practices (meta<a href="site_map2.htm#4">narratives</a>). I challenge the traditional praxis by alternate per<b>form</b>ances of research practices such as studying myself in a cultural context of an internship using the methodology of <a href="site_map2.htm#11">autoethnography</a> and performance. The <a href="site_map2.htm#5">hypertext</a> docuverse is a further characterization of postmodernism in the styles and structures that are used for re-presentation of the narratives. The styles of narration I use—such as words and graphics, prose and poetry, first person conversational texts, narratives and collages—blur the boundary of "academic" writing, literature, and art. The hypertext is intended as a <a href="site_map2.htm#6">metaphorical</a> experiential, intertextual journey of an <a href="site_map2.htm#12">intern</a> and a <a href="site_map2.htm#14">researcher</a>. Rather than a fixed structure, I create numerous structures of possible structures to privilege the readers' <a href="site_map2.htm#1">navigational</a> choices. I anticipate that the reader's choices in the virtual space might create a sense of meaning-transformation as one traverses through the dissertation web, thus, valuing <a href="site_map2.htm#8">fragmentation</a> and connection as aspects of sense-making, which are contextualized (among others) by the reader's meaning frames and my hypertextual <a href="site_map2.htm#7">performances</a>. The dissertation is submitted in three formats—exclusive dissertation web.pdf, intertextual dissertation web.pdf, and xml version. The<b> <i>exclusive dissertation web.pdf</i> </b>is a web capture in pdf format of all the "files" that compose the dissertation web created in html. The <i><b>intertextual dissertation web.pdf</b> </i> is a web capture of my dissertation along with the capture of external web resources that contextualize my dissertation web, thus illustrating the intertextuality of hypertexts by making the dissertation part of the larger textual web. Due to the web capture, the "docuverse" is nonlinear and the pages do not follow any particular or author predefined sequences. So, <i>please use the internal links or the bookmarks to read or browse the dissertation web</i> rather than scroll from the first "page" to the last "page" of the pdf formatted docuverse. The third version in xml will be made available at a later date. An html version of the dissertation is available directly from the researcher-author. CAUTION! The links from the abstract may be broken due to archiving of the dissertation web. / Ph. D.

Geographical Information Technologies – Decision Support for Road Maintenance in Uganda

Kayondo-Ndandiko, Lydia Mazzi January 2012 (has links)
This study set out to develop a framework within which the use of Geographical Information Technologies (GITs) can be enhanced in Road Infrastructure Maintenance (RIM) in Uganda. Specifically it was guided by 3 objectives; 1. To assess the gaps in the use of GITs for RIM in Uganda and the limitations to accessing these technologies, 2. To develop a methodological framework to enhance the use of GITs in RIM and 3. To develop a Geographical Information Systems for Transportation (GIS-T) data model based on the road maintenance data requirements. A participatory approach through a series of interviews, focus group discussions, workshop &amp; conferences, document reviews, field observations &amp; measurements and GIS analysis were employed. Based on the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) concept and the principle of Causality, the gaps and limitations were established to mainly be concerned with data and organisational constraints as opposed to technical issues. They were classified to include; inadequate involvement of GITs in organisational activities, inappropriate institutional arrangements, absence of data sharing frameworks, budget constraints, insufficient geospatial capacity, digital divide in the perception, adoption &amp; affordability of GITs among the stakeholders and the absence of a road maintenance Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). A methodological framework, comprising of 6 strategic components was developed to enhance the use of GITs in RIM. This included enactment of relevant policy components to guide GIT use, continuous capacity building, establishment of a road maintenance SDI, fostering collaboration and spatial data sharing frameworks, budgetary allocation based on defined activities inclusive of GIT initiatives, and adoption of a dynamic segmentation data model. Conceptual and logical data models were developed and proposed for the Sector. The conceptual model, presented using an entity relationship diagram, relates the road network to the point and line events occurring on it. The logical object relational model developed using the ESRI provided template represents the road and the point and line events in a total of 19 object classes. The Study concludes that in order to ground GIT benefits in the sector; technical, data and organisational concerns involved in GIT undertakings should be accorded equal emphasis. Institutionalisation and diffusion of GITs as aspects of the component strategies are regarded capacity building mechanisms earmarked to boost success in GIT initiatives. Further research on diffusion and funding models for GIT initiatives is recommended. It is suggested that aspects of the proposed model be considered when establishing GIT standards for the sector. The RIM sector is encouraged to embrace Science and Technology and to participate in Research and Development and particularly to adopt the culture of innovation considering the ready availability of off the shelf equipment, freeware and open source software that can foster informed decision making.

Fumo, Paulino Paulo 20 November 2017 (has links)
This thesis proposes an analysis of the contribution of linguistic, declarative and textual resources to the construction of meaning and argumentation in Portuguese written texts by students in two Mozambican secondary schools: Moamba Secondary School and Josina Machel Secondary School in Maputo. The choice of this subject of study is justified by the manifest overvaluation of rhetorical vision of the construction of argumentation (thesis-arguments) to the detriment of a semantic-pragmatic vision based on linguistic-discursive resources in the Mozambican secondary education. Therefore, this study aims to give a theoretical and analytical contribution, seeking to encourage teachers to take into account the complexity of these resources in addressing argumentation, both in their own training as well as in their teaching career. Theoretically, the study fits in the Argumentation Discourse Theories and it is based on previous studies on linguistic aspects (contents of the oral, lexical repertoire, syntactic, morphological and syntactic structures), declarative (subjectivity, polyphony, deixis, linguistic modalities) and textual (recoveries anaphoric, thematic progression, connectivity, referencing and textual organization). The analyses made here lead to the conclusion that in the thread of theses and arguments for the construction of argumentation participate and collaborate with sets of declarative, linguistic and textual resources which cannot be neglected in the study of argumentation, especially in a specific education context, which seems to be the case in the Mozambican school. At the same time, the analyses show that there are individual characteristics of written text production in each of the schools studied, which seem to stem from the sociolinguistic profile of the students.

Fighting for Aid : Foreign Funding and Civil Conflict Intensity

Strandow, Daniel January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on the sub-national impact of foreign aid on civil conflicts by asking the question: How does foreign aid committed to contested areas affect the intensity of violence in those areas? The main theoretical contribution is to focus on how aid influences warring parties’ decisions to engage in contests over territorial control and how that in turn influences violence intensity. The study introduces two concepts: funding concentration and barriers to exploiting aid. A contested area has greater concentration of funding if warring parties expect a high value of aid to be distributed to only a few locations. Funding is instead diffused if the parties expect aid to be spread over many locations. A low barrier to exploiting aid is present if it is of a type that both state and non-state actors could potentially misuse. There is a high barrier if territorial control is required in order to exploit funding channels. The theory introduces three testable implications: First, greater funding concentration encourages conventional contests over territorial control, which increases military fatalities. The second proposal is that if there is a low barrier to exploiting aid (e.g. humanitarian and food aid) then there will be increased competition between warring parties and civilians, and hence more civilian fatalities. Third, high barrier funding (e.g. education aid) will motivate contests over territorial control and increase military fatalities. This dissertation uses geo-coded aid commitments data and introduces data of warring parties’ battleground control in sub-Saharan Africa, 1989–2008. The research design relies on propensity score matching where pairs of observations are matched based on a range of covariates. The results concerning barriers to exploitation are partially supported. High barrier aid increases military fatalities whereas low barrier aid has little impact on violence. Greater funding concentration increases military fatalities substantially compared to if there is low or no funding concentration. In line with theory, greater funding concentration does not increase civilian fatalities.

Warning Design for Connected Cars

Schwarz, Felix 03 July 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Future connected vehicles will be able to warn about hidden dangers already before they are visible for the driver. With sight obstructions as one of the most common factors of accident causation, there is a huge potential to improve traffic safety. However, it is unclear how to design the human-machine-interface of such systems to effectively warn drivers about invisible dangers. Especially the expectation that such warnings will be comparably unreliable lead to conflicting demands on amount and coding of warning information. Earlier work shows that warnings that contain more specific information about a hazard can improve drivers understanding of and responses to warnings but they can also raise processing costs and delay reactions or even distract drivers. Psychological theories as well as related research indicates that augmented reality (AR) has the potential to improve warning effectiveness through optimized coding of additional information. AR warnings can inherently transmit the location of a hazard and – due to the corresponding approach of the referenced display towards the driver – could increases the salience of a warning. The general aim of this work is to understand the human factors of future communication-based collision warnings. Based on a theoretical analysis revealing the most relevant questions within that context, we conducted three driving simulator studies to understand the impact of AR warning design on the effectiveness of unreliable warnings about sight obstructed dangers. To consider not only short-term effectiveness, all studies contained several necessary as well as unnecessary warnings that were analyzed in detail. The first study with 88 participants investigated the benefit of prototypical AR warnings over unspecific warnings of different modalities (visual vs. auditory). Visual AR warnings showed advantages over the other warning designs in gaze and brake reaction times, passing speeds, collision rates and subjective evaluation. Auditory AR warnings did not reveal comparable effects. The second test with 80 participants examined the contribution of different design aspects of visual AR warnings. Adding specific warning symbols or scaling animations to the warnings showed some positive but rather inconsistent effects. In contrast, spatial referencing even of an unspecific warning symbol with AR consistently improved driver’s reactions and evaluations. A third experiment with 36 participants observed the differential effects of the spatial information per se and the coding of the information with AR. The warnings had either no spatial information, symbolically encrypted spatial information or AR encrypted spatial information. A higher amount of information consistently led to stronger brake reactions, higher trust and better subjective evaluation. Additionally, with AR encryption we observed faster fixations as well as brake reactions. The present research emphasizes the importance of specificity for warnings about hidden hazards and the potential of AR especially for in-vehicle warnings of future collision avoidance systems. The systematic analysis of psychological factors of warning design and the corresponding findings on their relative contribution to driver’s behavior might also be transferred to other domains and applications of warning and information design.
