Heterogeneous RFID framework design, analysis and evaluation / Conception, analyse et évaluation d'un réseau RFID hétérogèneBotero, Oscar 14 May 2012 (has links)
The Internet of Things paradigm establishes interaction and communication with a huge amount of actors. The concept is not a new-from-scratch one; actually, it combines a vast number of technologies and protocols and surely adaptations of pre-existing elements to offer new services and applications. One of the key technologies of the Internet of Things is the Radio Frequency Identification just abbreviated RFID. This technology proposes a set of solutions that allow tracking and tracing persons, animals and practically any item wirelessly. Considering the Internet of Things concept, multiple technologies need to be linked in order to provide interactions that lead to the implementation of services and applications. The challenge is that these technologies are not necessarily compatible and designed to work with other technologies. Within this context, the main objective of this thesis is to design a heterogeneous framework that will permit the interaction of diverse devices such as RFID, sensors and actuators in order to provide new applications and services. For this purpose in this work, our first contribution is the design and analysis of an integration architecture for heterogeneous devices. In the second contribution, we propose an evaluation model for RFID topologies and an optimization tool that assists in the RFID network planning process. Finally, in our last contribution, we implemented a simplified version of the framework by using embedded hardware and performance metrics are provided as well as the detailed configuration of the test platform

Radio-Location Techniques for Localization and Monitoring Applications. A study of localisation techniques, using OFDM system under adverse channel conditions and radio frequency identification for object identification and movement trackingShuaieb, Wafa S.A. January 2018 (has links)
A wide range of services and applications become possible when accurate position
information for a radio terminal is available. These include: location-based services;
navigation; safety and security applications. The commercial, industrial and military value
of radio-location is such that considerable research effort has been directed towards
developing related technologies, using satellite, cellular or local area network
infrastructures or stand-alone equipment.
This work studies and investigates two location techniques. The first one presents an
implementation scheme for a wideband transmission and direction finding system using
OFDM multi-carrier communications systems. This approach takes advantage of delay
discrimination to improve angle-of-arrival estimation in a multipath channel with high
levels of additive white Gaussian noise. A new methodology is interpreted over the multi carrier modulation scheme in which the simulation results of the estimated channel
improves the performance of OFDM signal by mitigating the effect of frequency offset
synchronization to give error-free data at the receiver, good angle of arrival accuracy and
improved SNR performance. The full system simulation to explore optimum values such
as channel estimation and AoA including the antenna array model and prove the
operational performance of the OFDM system as implemented in MATLAB.
The second technique proposes a low cost-effective method of tracking and monitoring
objects (examples: patient, device, medicine, document) by employing passive radio
frequency identification (RFID) systems. A multi-tag, (totalling fifty-six tags) with known
ID values are attached to the whole patient’s body to achieve better tracking and
monitoring precision and higher accuracy. Several tests with different positions and
movements are implemented on six patients. The aim is to be able to track the patient if
he/she is walking or sitting; therefore, the tests considered six possible movements for
the patient including walking, standing, sitting, resting, laying on the floor and laying on
the bed, these placements are important to monitor the status of the patient like if he
collapsed and fall on the ground so that the help will be quick. The collected data from
the RFID Reader in terms of Time Stamp, RSS, Tag ID, and a number of channels are
processed using the MATLAB code.

Super-Wide Impedance Bandwidth Planar Antenna for Microwave and Millimeter-Wave ApplicationsAlibakhshikenari, M., Virdee, B.S., See, C.H., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Falcone, F., Limiti, E. 19 May 2019 (has links)
Yes / A feasibility study of a novel configuration for a super-wide impedance planar antenna is
presented based on a 2 × 2 microstrip patch antenna (MPA) using CST Microwave Studio. The antenna
comprises a symmetrical arrangement of four-square patches that are interconnected to each other with
cross-shaped high impedance microstrip lines. The antenna array is excited through a single feedline
connected to one of the patches. The proposed antenna array configuration overcomes the main
drawback of conventional MPA with a narrow bandwidth that is typically <5%. The antenna exhibits
a super-wide frequency bandwidth from 20 GHz to 120 GHz for S11 < −15 dB, which corresponds
to a fractional bandwidth of 142.85%. The antenna’s performance of bandwidth, impedance match,
and radiation gain were enhanced by etching slots on the patches. With the inclusion of the slot,
the maximum radiation gain and efficiency of the MPA increased to 15.11 dBi and 85.79% at 80 GHz,
which showed an improvement of 2.58 dBi and 12.54%, respectively. The dimension of each patch
antenna was 4.3 × 5.3 mm2
. The results showed that the proposed MPA is useful for various
existing and emerging communication systems such as ultra-wideband (UWB) communications,
RFID systems, massive multiple-output multiple-input (MIMO) for 5G, and radar systems. / This work was partially supported by the Innovation Program under grant agreement H2020-MSCA-ITN-2016 SECRET-722424 and financial support from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) under grant EP/E022936/1.

In 2006, the Brazilian government instituted the national system of automatic vehicle identification (SINIAV), whose main objective is to control all vehicles through radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. However, this project has a great technological challenge regarding connectivity and data transmission when applied within cities, which may hinder its scalability. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to study the technical feasibility of the use of LoRa for the transmission of data from the electronic surveillance of vehicles through RFID. Then, a performance analysis of a system composed of an RFID antenna to perform the readings of the tags and a LoRa transmitter to send those readings to a gateway connected to the Internet was performed and the packet loss rate metrics (PER) and LoRa transmission throughput rates were measured. The results show that in certain scenarios it is possible to obtain a packet loss rate of less than 20% and a packet sending rate of more than 60 packets per minute, which makes the use of LoRa a viable technology for this enforcement application and other applications related to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

Exploring tracing and tracking technologies to improve production efficiency and product quality.Zakir Hussain, Tharik, Manavalan, Paul Johny January 2023 (has links)
The door manufacturing industry still heavily relies on manual technology for its production and quality assurance systems, which poses certain challenges. However, in recent years, the industry has witnessed a growing demand for personalized products, leading to a need for more adaptable production methods and shorter product life cycles. Unfortunately, this reliance on manual technologies has resulted in increased errors and inaccuracies. Moreover, manual technology requires significant time and effort investment, which reduces production efficiency and product quality. To address these issues, the purpose of this thesis is to address the issue of inefficiency at a door manufacturing company by examining its existing production systems and quality assurance system. The thesis aims to provide recommendations for improvement by exploring the integration of automated tracing and tracking technology. Furthermore, it would result in recommendations for feasible methods that may be used in Swedish production systems, as well as further study fields.
