Motorola併購Symbol之策略分析─以資源基礎論的觀點 / A resource-based view analysis of merger: Motorola / Symbol case

Unknown Date (has links)
On September, 2006, Motorola Inc. announced its plan to acquire Symbol Technologies. The equity deal calls for Motorola to buy all outstanding shares of Symbol at $15 a share. Upon completion of the transaction, Symbol will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola and will be the core of Motorola's Enterprise Mobility Business. The acquisition of Symbol complements Motorola’s vision to deliver seamless mobility solutions to the globe. The one-shot case study method is applied in the essay. This study is based on the resource-based view to discuss the motives of Motorola and Symbol to deal this M&A. In addition, this research also concentrated on the differences of new entity’s capabilities and market activities than former. Realizing the full potential benefit of the enterprise and RFID market, Motorola is looking to expand its business scope into these two markets. Symbol is in a key position in RFID and has a strong position in the enterprise mobility solution market. M&A is definitely a more rapid way to achieve Motorola’s goal. For these two companies, it could well leverage its product, market, channel and technical resources at all. Thus, Motorola could increase its competitive advantages in the market mentioned above.

Tillämpning av identifieringsteknik inom lagerhållning : En fallstudie inom kemiindustrin / Application of identification technology in warehousing : A case study in the chemical industry

Bahadin Tarik, Zewar, Berndtsson, Victor January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of the report is to analyse how automatic identification technology affects traceability, and then analyse the effects of automatic identification technology on inventory management. This report is based on the research questions "How can barcodes and RFID affect inventory management?" and "What advantages and disadvantages can automatic identification technologies lead to in warehousing?". In order to answer the report's purpose and research questions, a case study was conducted. The company is a manufacturing company and is active in the chemical industry. The company is categorized as a large company located in western Sweden. Two challenges for the company are to reduce the number of incorrect deliveries and improve the inventory accuracy. These problems are due to the fact that activities in the company's warehouse are done manually. The consequence is reduced inventory efficiency and a risk for dissatisfied customers. During the 2017 fiscal year 45 non-conformances were registered, some of which derives from incorrect deliveries. Empirical data was collected through interviews, observations and internal documents. The case study consists of a process mapping in which the company's processes and activities have been mapped. To obtain a better basis for analysis, a literature study of earlier research was conducted in the field of traceability and automatic identification technologies. A summary of the literature study is found in the theoretical framework. The theoretical framework includes traceability, automatic identification and data capture (AIDC), barcodes and radio frequency identification (RFID).The results shows which activities in the process mapping that identification technologies can be applied to and what effects an application may lead to. It appears that the identification technologies have similar effects on inventory management as they both result in automated product identification and automated transfer of information. These effects in combination with an integration with the ERP-system can lead to increased inventory efficiency with fewer incorrect deliveries and improved inventory accuracy. The company is recommended to implement AIDC, however the study shows that further research needs to be carried out to investigate what kind of barcodes or RFID is most beneficial.

Industry Policy,Finance and the AIDC: Australia from the 1950s to the 1970s

Carol Windsor Unknown Date (has links)
Abstract This thesis, conceived within a Marxist framework, addresses key conceptual issues in the writing and theorising on industry policy in post second world- war Australia. Broadly, the thesis challenges the way that industry policy on the left of politics (reflected in the social democratic and Keynesian positions) has been constructed as a practical, progressive policy agenda. Specifically, the thesis poses a direct challenge to the primacy of the ‘national’ in interpreting the history of industry policy. The challenge is to the proposition that conflicts between national industry and international finance arose only from the mid 1980s. On the contrary, as will be seen, this is a 1960s issue and any interpretation of the debates and the agendas surrounding industry policy in the 1980s must be predicated on an understanding of how the issue was played out two decades earlier. As was the case in the 1960s, industry policy in the 1980s has been isolated from two key areas of interrogation: the role of the nation state in regulating accumulation and the role of finance in industry policy. In the 1950s and more so in the 1960s and early 1970s there was a reconfiguration of financing internationally but it is one that did not enter into industry policy analysis. The central concern therefore is to simultaneously sketch the historical political economy on industry policy from the 1950s through to the early 1970s in Australia and to analytically and empirically insert the role of finance into that history. In so doing the thesis addresses the economic and social factors that shaped the approach to industry finance in Australia during this critical period. The analysis is supported by a detailed examination of political and industry debates surrounding the proposal for, and institution of, a key national intervention in the form of the Australian Industry Development Corporation (AIDC).

This study sought to identify the main IT technologies available for the AIDC and retail self-service area, to fill the gap in the literature about the real advantages of using new technologies at the point of sale, in order to optimize its operation. In order to do this, we studied the main operational processes of a self-service retail store bearing in mind to identify how the technologies of Automatic Identification and Data Capture and IT could help to improve the operating results and add value to the business. To analyze these proposals we have surveyed several global case studies of retail companies, which implemented the AIDC and IT technologies to investigate what were the impacts of using these technologies in their operations and then designed a comprehensive and innovative Case Study, through which we sought to understand the real business benefits. As a final result, it was possible to identify the changes and the benefits in terms of cost, productivity, quality, flexibility and innovation. The work also highlighted the critical points of success for the implementation of AIDC and IT Retail, which are: the review of operating processes, the correct definition of the hardware; inputs; software; interferences of the physical environment, the availability of data / information of products, of people / employees and of business partners / suppliers. More specifically, this study sought to contribute to the enrichment of the field studies in the retail segment and for the use of information technology in Brazil, since the issue on the use and impact of new technologies at the point of sales, still remains unexplored academically.

Supply Chain Event Management – Bedarf, Systemarchitektur und Nutzen aus Perspektive fokaler Unternehmen der Modeindustrie

Tröger, Ralph 10 November 2014 (has links) (PDF)
