The purpose of this thesis has been to study how teachers interpret the curriculum about ethics and life issues, and how they say to educate about it to find good examples on education on this complex subject. Earlier research has shown that these questions mainly are processed as a reaction of a conflict, and not so much scheduled in class. Ethics and life issues are said to be important to discuss and reflect about, according to the curriculum.  The survey was conducted by using qualitative method and semi-structured interviews including nine respondents from five different schools. In the analysis of the results, it emerges that teachers interpret the curriculum in some different ways and gives the subject different amount of space in the education.

Vi människor funderar ofta kring vår egen uppfattning dvs. vem vi är. Vi funderar också över vad vi vill bli. Vi ställs inför många andra frågor som handlar om identitet och livsfrågor. Livsfrågor som begrepp kan vara svåra att tolka och många gånger blandas begreppet ihop med andra begrepp som t.ex. existentiella frågor, livsåskådningsfrågor, livstolkningar osv. I ett annat sammanhang förknippas livsfrågor med etiska frågor och moral. Ett exempel på livsfrågor kan vara frågor om vad som är viktigt i livet, livets mening, vad som är ont och gott, vad som är rätt och orätt osv. Livsfrågor i t.ex. en lärobok kan också förknippas med dygder, moral och etik. Med utgångspunkt i tidigare forskning har jag velat undersöka och klargöra hur livsfrågor presenteras i tre läroböcker. I första hand har jag fokuserat på livsfrågor som tas upp i läroböcker för ämnet religionskunskap 1 för gymnasiet. De böcker jag valt att analysera är Religion 1 av Birgitta Thulin och Sten Elm, Religion 1 & 2 också skriven av Birgitta Thulin och Sten Elm samt Religion och andra livsåskådningar av Börje Ring. I bakgrunden för min undersökning ligger textanalys som metod och hermeneutik. Enligt vad som har förekommit i min studie kan livsfrågorna förknippas med livsåskådningsfrågor, existentiella frågor, livstolkningsfrågor osv. Livsfrågorna som beskrivs i läromedlen handlar bland annat om liv och död, etik och moral, sex och samlevnad, dygder osv. Kortfattat kan man säga att läromedlen i min undersökning  är anpassade till läroplanerna och de innehåller en rad diskussionsfrågor. De diskussionsfrågorna är avsedda för elevernas diskussioner och inlämningsuppgifter i olika former. / We humans often think about who we are. Often these thoughts are about what we want to become. We face many questions about identity and life issues. Life issues as a concept can be difficult to interpret and we often mix this concept with other concepts such as existential issues, philosophy of life, life interpretations, etc. In another context, life issues are associated with ethics and morality. For example, life issues may refer to questions about what is important in life, what is the purpose of life, what is good and evil, what is right and wrong etc. Life issues in a school book can also be associated with virtues, moral and ethics.   Based on previous research, I have wanted to examine and clarify how the questions of life are presented in three school books. In the first place, I have focused on life issues addressed in the three school books for Religion 1 for high school. The books I have chosen to analyze are Religion 1 by Birgitta Thulin and Sten Elm, Religion 1 & 2 also written by Birgitta Thulin and Sten Elm and Religion och andra livsåskådnigar by Börje Ring. In the background of my examination are text analysis method and hermeneutic.   According to what has emerged in my study, life issues can be associated with philosophical questions, existential questions, life questions, etc. Life issues, in my study material, among other things, are about life and death, ethics and morality, sex and relationships, virtues etc. Briefly, I can say that the school books in my research, are adapted to the curriculum, and they contain a lot of discussion questions. The discussion questions are intended for students' discussions and assignments in different forms.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vilka möjligheter läromedel i religionskunskap ger lärare att undervisa om livsfrågor i enlighet med de skrivningar som är formulerade i läroplanen, Lgr 11. Vidare är syftet med denna studie att undersöka i vilken utsträckning livsfrågor behandlas i de utvalda läromedlen och vilka typer av livsfrågor som behandlas i dessa. Genom att genomföra en läromedelsanalys utifrån en kvalitativ innehållsanalys undersöktes tre olika läromedel inom religionskunskap som idag finns på marknaden. Studiens resultat visar att de läromedel som idag finns tillgängliga inom religionskunskap för årskurs 4–6 till stora delar har ett innehåll som motsvarar det centrala innehållet i ämnets kursplan, men att de ställer höga krav på de undervisande lärarnas religionsdidaktiska kompentens när det kommer till att finna och välja ut material som komplement till undervisningen inom livsfrågor. Vidare visar även studiens resultat att valet av läromedel ger elever och lärare olika förutsättningar att arbeta med livsfrågor. Dessutom tar läromedlen upp olika typer av livsfrågor ur mycket skilda perspektiv. / The purpose of this study is to investigate which possibilities teaching materials in religious education give teachers to teach about life issues in accordance to the curriculum, Lgr 11. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to investigate to what extent life issues are addressed in the selected teaching materials and what types of life issues that are addressed in these. By conducting an analysis of teaching material based on a qualitative content analysis, three different teaching material in the field of religious education were examined. The study's results show that the teaching materials that currently are available in religious education for grades 4–6 largely have the central content written in the subject's syllabus, but that they place high demands on the teachers' religious didactic competences when it comes to finding and choosing material as a complement while working with life issues. Furthermore, the study's results also show that the choice of teaching material gives students and teachers different conditions for working with life issues and that these teaching materials also address different types of life issues from very different perspectives.

No / The Hospital Personnel, Nursing Care and Dying Patients study, undertaken in California in the mid 1960s, generated a body of work that continues to be influential in end of life care research. Key points from the study are summarised, as are contributions from researchers who have responded to Glaser and Strauss invitation to examine further settings and, in so doing, provide data that helps refine their theory. The example of people with heart failure in the contemporary UK is considered. Changes since the 1960s in the epidemiology of chronic illness, the pattern of service provision and in social and professional attitudes have reduced the contemporary relevance of Glaser and Strauss's insights into the ceremonial and temporal order of the clinic. However their findings about awareness contexts and a reluctance to discuss prognosis remain highly relevant.

The purpose of this study is to describe children’s life issues. What kind ofquestions they have aboutlife, their thoughts about life. Another purpose of this study is to see the differences in how children’s thoughts about life have changed through the years. I have used a book called Barns tankar om livetwritten by Sven G Hartman which I used to make a comparison. This study will alsodiscusswhat the policy documents for Swedish schools say about the subject “life issues” or the questions of life.The method used for this study is a qualitative researchmethod. Eight children got interviewed and the results have been represented in a dialogue together with Hartman (1986) and Hartman (2007) result. For any further research of this study it would be interesting to do a studythat shows whetherSwedish schools follow the policy documents in the case of the “life issues”. Textsamtal har en viktig roll i undervisningen och för elevernas lärande. Genom att delta i textsamtal kan eleverna utveckla sina läsförmågor, språkligaförmågor och läsförståelseförmågor. Fördelen med att lärare använder sig av textsamtal är att textsamtal inte är begränsad till svenskundervisningen, utan kan nyttjas i alla skolans ämnen. Textsamtal ger lärare goda möjligheter till att arbeta ämnesövergripande och diskutera kring saker som inte är direkt kopplade till svenskämnet. Däremot utgår denna studie i ämnet svenska med fokus på diskussioner kring olika livsfrågor med några elever i årskurs 3. Syftet med studien är att analysera vilka livsfrågor elever i årskurs 3 läser om i de böcker eleverna väljer att läsa. Studien syftar också till att lyfta fram de tankar som eleverna uttrycker i textsamtal kring livsfrågor. Studien utgår ifrån den sociokulturella teorin för att lyfta fram de sociala aspekterna i undervisningen och betydelsen av att lära sig av och med varandra. Materialet i studien grundar sig på de två genomförda fokusgruppsintervjuerna samt läsning av de böcker eleverna har läst. Resultatet visar att eleverna stöter på en mängd olika livsfrågor i sin läsning, bland annat kamratskap, saknad och död. Likaså visar resultatet att textsamtalen i ämnet svenska ger eleverna goda möjligheter till att få uttrycka sig och dela med sig av sina tankar kring olika livsfrågor. / Text conversations have an important role in teaching and for students' learning. By participating in text conversations, pupils can develop their reading skills, language skills and reading comprehension skills. The advantage of teachers using text conversations is that text conversations are not limited to Swedish teaching, but can be used in all school subjects. Text conversations give teachers good opportunities to work interdisciplinary and discuss things that are not directly connected to the Swedish subject. However, this study is based on the subject Swedish with a focus on discussions about various life issues with some pupils in year 3. The purpose of the study is to analyse which life issues students in year 3 read about in the books the students choose to read. The study also aims to highlight the thoughts that pupils express in text conversations about life issues. The study is based on the socio-cultural theory to highlight the social aspects of teaching and the importance of learning from and with each other. The material in the study is based on the two completed focus group interviews and reading of the books the students have read. The results show that students encounter a variety of life issues in their reading, including friendship, loss and death. The results also show that the text conversations in the Swedish subject give pupils good opportunities to express themselves and share their thoughts on various life issues.

The purpose of this work is to investigate and shed light on how children’s literature is used in the after – school center, if there are any conversations with children’s literature as a starting point and if children’s literature and conversation from the books are used as tools to let students process issues concerning themselves, their lives and their thoughts. The servey was conducted in the form of a web-based questionnaire and the questionnaire responses were then analyzed from three different theoretical perspectives: a socio-cultural perspective, an environmental psychological perspective and Aidan Chamber’s model The Reading Circle. From the point of view of the socio-cultural perspective, communication and language are in focus and the interplay between the common thinking and the individual’s thinking is a prerequisite for development and learning. This perspective is set in relation to how conversation about read books can become tools for students’ development. The environmental psychological perspective in this work is about how noise affects students’ concentration and analytical ability, how the design of the room affects students’ views of both themselves and what the room should be used for and that the environment is also a matter of social impact. The reading circle offers a holistic perspective on the reading process, which is about choosing a book, reading the book, being able to reflect on and react to the book’s content, and then want to start over with the next book. Conclusions drawn from this study are that children’s literature is used in leisure centers to varying degrees, that the physical environment in the form of, for example, limited opportunities for quiet places affects the extent of student’s individual reading, and that books discussions and structured reflections based on children’s literature occur to a very limited extent. / Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka och belysa hur barnlitteratur används i fritidshemmet, om det förekommer några samtal med barnlitteraturen som utgångspunkt och om barnlitteratur och samtal utifrån böckerna används som verktyg för att låta eleverna bearbeta frågor som berör dem själva, deras liv och deras tankar. Undersökningen har genomförts i form av en webbaserad enkät och enkätsvaren har sedan analyserats utifrån tre olika teoretiska perspektiv: ett sociokulturellt perspektiv, ett miljöpsykologiskt perspektiv samt Aidan Chambers modell Läsandets cirkel. I det sociokulturella perspektivets utgångspunkt står kommunikation och språk i fokus och samspelet mellan det gemensamma tänkandet och den enskildes tänkande är en förutsättning för utveckling och lärande. Detta perspektiv sätts i relation till hur samtal omkring lästa böcker kan bli verktyg för elevernas utveckling. Det miljöpsykologiska perspektivet i detta arbete handlar om hur buller påverkar elevers koncentration och analysförmåga, hur rummets utformning påverkar elevernas syn på både sig själva och på vad rummet ska användas till samt att miljö även är en fråga om social påverkan. Läsandets cirkel erbjuder ett helhetsperspektiv på läsprocessen som handlar om att välja bok, att läsa boken, att få reflektera över och reagera på bokens innehåll, för att sedan vilja börja om med nästa bok. Slutsatser som dragits av denna undersökning är att barnlitteratur används i fritidshemmen i varierande grad, att den fysiska miljön i form av till exempel begränsade möjligheter till lugna platser påverkar omfattningen av elevers enskilda läsning, samt att boksamtal och strukturerade reflektionstillfällen utifrån barnlitteraturen förekommer i mycket begränsad omfattning.
