Worn items are a crucial part of non-verbal social interaction that simultaneously exhibits communal, cultural, and political structures and individual preferences. This thesis examines the role of fictional costume and colour in constructing identities within two fourteenth-century Arthurian verse narratives: Froissart’s Middle French Meliador and the anonymous Middle English Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. To emphasise the imaginative value of material cultures and discuss the potential reception of fictional objects, the argument draws on illuminations from nine manuscripts of prose Arthurian stories. Particularly stressing the role of colour in garments, the first chapter examines the issues of analysing literary costume, reviews the provenances of the texts and illuminations, and establishes the relevant historical background concerning fashion, symbolism, and materials of construction (such as fabric, dyes, and decorations). This is followed by two chapters on men’s items. First, the use of courtly clothes and colour-related epithets in manipulating perception and deceiving internal and external audiences is explored. Second, the symbolic value of arms and armour in tournament society is evaluated alongside the tensions between war and armed games that such tools reveal. Chapter four expands on the preceding chapters by discussing the application of heraldry as a malleable identifier. Chapter five considers how ladies’ garments, bodies, and character are coalesced and separated through adoption or rejection of literary techniques, thereby creating conflict between noblewomen as social commodities and as persons with narrative agency. The final chapter analyses the employment of wearable items as gifts and commodities and how such objects can alter interpersonal relationships. Colour and costume are a means by which narratives can explore, accept, or reject literary topoi. Their myriad functions allow the active manipulation of identity, relationships, and internal and external audiences. By focusing on the pluralities and ambiguities of meaning connected to colour and costume, this thesis explores how these materials mediate between conflicting connotations to create new meanings within the narratives.

Objective: Understand how the new configurations of the military environment focus on the discourses of men participants in the Army. Methods: To do so, the thesis examines three studies using a qualitative aproach and an exploratory and descriptive research design and the Critical Discourse Analysis was used to analyse the data. Study 1 analyzed how masculinities are portrayed in military environment, describing the main characteristics appointed as descriptive of military men from interviews with 15 military men and the notes of a Field Camp Diary. Study 2 discussed how the new setting in the military environment influence the speeches of servicemen, understanding gender relations that are established and their perception of the addition of women in the Army from semistructure interview with 15 military men. Study 3 had the purpose to discuss women?s places in the military context, in the Brazilian Army in particular, attempts to expatiate about military women, based on the experiences of the first author and in field camp notes. Results: There was a synchrony between the results of the 3 studies in several respects. The institutional values learned through daily rituals reinforce practices of masculinities that through the discourses of military men reiterate gender stereotypes. In addition, the entrance of women in the military environment has brought about changes in relationships within the institution, although permeated by power relations. Conclusion: Although the process of entrance of women in the Brazilian Army is underway, it was possible to perceive among the military men equalitarian and receptive discourse towards women, even when unsure about changes to come. Some hidden discourses of women's unfitness for military service were perceived, justified by the physical and biological part. However, even an institution that has mostly men, allows processes equal to women allowing more and more spaces of action. / A presente tese prop?e uma an?lise cr?tica do ingresso das mulheres no Ex?rcito Brasileiro, a partir dos discursos de homens militares, procurando destacar as rela??es de g?nero e como se configuram as masculinidades no ambiente militar. The data collection of this research was done through individual interviews and records of collective interventions in field diaries. The assumptions of the Grounded Theory and, as an analytical proposal, the conceptions derived from the American black feminism from the intersectional perspective are used as methodological dimension. Through this theoretical contribution is proposed an understanding of the strategic forms of agency in the prison territory engendered by persons in detention in this gallery. Specific goals include: to perform a systematic review of the literature on fatherhood in the prison context; to discuss the challenges and possibilities of a qualitative fieldwork in Psychology; to understand if and how the meanings of paternity are transformed with the jail experience; to identify how men deprived of their freedom mean the concept of paternity and their own paternal condition; to understand which family models are constructed discursively and in practice by women who visit the partner in prison and to identify the relationship established between the prison institution, individuals deprived of their freedom and their relatives. In order to achieve the proposed goals, a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive and ethnographic based research was carried out. The collection of information occurred in two different moments. The first one comprised participant observations for three months in the Visiting Room, where family members undergo security and inspection procedures before joining the institution, as well as at the Children's Day and Christmas celebrations, organized by the warden management to the relatives of the prisoners. All observations were reported in a field diary. The second moment of collection included semi directed interviews with twelve men, fathers, who were deprived of their freedom for at least six months. All the information collected was analyzed in light of the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), and the results are presented and discussed in the five papers that compose the present thesis. Given the peculiarities of this research, it is observed that the results presented highlight the relevance that the affective relationships, among these the relationship between father and child, have space in the discussions that surround the Brazilian prison system, from the understanding that a father in prison is still a father and that maintaining affective bonds prior to incarceration brings benefits not only to the individual deprived of liberty, but also to their family members. / A presente tese teve por objetivo geral compreender os significados atribu?dos ?s rela??es familiares, ? conjugalidade e ? paternidade por homens privados de liberdade e suas companheiras. Como objetivos espec?ficos salientam-se: revisar sistematicamente a produ??o nacional e internacional sobre a paternidade no c?rcere; discutir os desafios e possibilidades de um trabalho de campo qualitativo em Psicologia; entender se e de que forma os significados da paternidade s?o transformados com a experi?ncia do c?rcere; identificar como os homens privados de liberdade significam o conceito de paternidade e a sua pr?pria condi??o paterna; entender quais s?o os modelos de fam?lia constru?dos discursivamente e na pr?tica por mulheres que visitam o companheiro na pris?o e identificar a rela??o estabelecida entre a institui??o prisional, os indiv?duos privados de liberdade e seus familiares. O segundo momento da coleta compreendeu a realiza??o de entrevistas semi-dirigidas com doze homens, pais, que estavam privados de liberdade por no m?nimo seis meses. Todas as informa??es coletadas foram analisadas ? luz da An?lise Cr?tica do Discurso (ACD), sendo os resultados apresentados e discutidos nos cinco artigos que comp?e a presente tese. Postas as peculiaridades da pesquisa, constata-se que os resultados apresentados evidenciam a relev?ncia de que as rela??es afetivas, entre elas a rela??o entre pai e filho(a), tenham espa?o nas discuss?es que circundam o sistema prisional brasileiro, a partir do entendimento de que um pai em situa??o de pris?o segue sendo pai e que a manuten??o dos v?nculos afetivos pr?vios ao encarceramento traz benef?cios n?o s? para o indiv?duo privado de liberdade, mas tamb?m para os seus familiares.

In a qualitative research, with a feminist gender approach, we performed three researches: documentary analysis of children's books, intervention with children and interviews with school professionals, in addition to notes in the field diary. Our goal was to develop and to assess possibilities for a psychoeducational intervention about gender with elementary school children, and to get to know the teachers? perception about these issues in public school setting, approaching gender equality, women?s empowerment, and respect for sexual diversity as core themes. The intervention called ?Talking about gender? took place in a range of ten meetings with twenty-two state public school first-graders, with six and seven years old, for the reading of children?s books and/or for carrying out interactive-reflective activities focused on the work with the themes mentioned above. Moreover, we performed semi-structured interviews with four pre-school teachers. We noticed that there have been some children?s books available in the market able to approach these three themes in a playful and responsible way, enhancing the work about gender with children. This is due to the fact that we were able to promote, in the researched classroom setting, debates about gender stereotypes, reflections about inequalities still thrusted on boys/men and on girls/women, and a collaborative construction of alternatives to fight gender inequalities in society. However, we acknowledge the lack of guidelines to educate and to inform teachers about working with gender at school, resulting in approaches based on personal experiences, often making them insecure about how to act. Therefore, we understand that the intervention we performed may be embraced by teachers and other professionals who intend to raise awareness about fighting the exclusion and the violence caused by gender inequality, to encourage the existence of (more) spaces for similar activities,and to spread the potential of such debates. / Esta tese de doutorado apresenta uma interven??o realizada na escola para discutir sobre quest?es de g?nero com crian?as e suas professoras, entendendo-se a import?ncia de que essas discuss?es comecem a ser realizadas j? na inf?ncia. Em uma pesquisa de delineamento qualitativo e com uma abordagem feminista de g?nero, realizaram-se tr?s estudos: a an?lise documental de livros infantis, a interven??o com as crian?as e as entrevistas com as profissionais da escola, al?m das anota??es no di?rio de campo. Objetivou-se desenvolver e avaliar as potencialidades de uma interven??o psicoeducativa sobre rela??es de g?nero com crian?as do ensino fundamental e conhecer a percep??o de professoras sobre essas quest?es no ambiente escolar p?blico, abordando a igualdade de g?nero, o empoderamento feminino e o respeito ? diversidade sexual como tem?ticas principais. Al?m disso, realizou-se entrevistas semiestruturadas com quatro professoras da educa??o infantil. Percebeu-se que h? alguns livros infantis dispon?veis no mercado liter?rio capazes de abordar essas tr?s tem?ticas de forma l?dica e respons?vel, o que potencializa o trabalho sobre g?nero com crian?as. Isso porque, conseguiu-se proporcionar, no ambiente de sala de aula pesquisado, a problematiza??o de estere?tipos de g?nero, a reflex?o sobre as desigualdades ainda impostas a meninos/homens e meninas/mulheres e a constru??o conjunta de alternativas para o combate ?s desigualdades de g?nero existentes na sociedade. Focusing on revenge pornography, it is the objective of the study to demonstrate that the woman still remains as a product of male control from the angle of revenge and sexuality. Based on this observation, starting from a political-criminological approach, the analysis uncovers the punitive power as a selective and stigmatizing field and question its alleged "protection" in the confrontations of female vulnerabilities, more specifically on the complex a phenomenon under discussion that involves female sexual freedom. / A disserta??o, que comp?e a linha de ?Viol?ncia, Crime e Seguran?a? do Programa de P?s- Gradua??o em Ci?ncias Criminais, aborda o fen?meno da pornografia de vingan?a, a partir de um vi?s criminol?gico, tendo como ponto de ancoragem uma perspectiva feminista cr?tica ao poder punitivo. Nesse sentido, ? realizado um panorama da hist?ria do Feminismo, suas primeiras conquistas e transforma??es discursivas. Por meio do recorte da chamada pornografia de vingan?a, pretende-se demonstrar que a mulher ainda permanece como produto de controle masculino sob o ?ngulo das vingan?as e da sexualidade. This is a qualitative study that used Netnography as an investigation method and for the purposes of data analysis. Aiming at understanding and discussing the specificities of the data collection, postulates from poststructuralism, Queer Theory, Feminism and Transfeminism were used in this study. The data collection took place in the virtual field, more specifically on YouTube, during the second semester of 2017, in which began the writing of the Field Journal, where the contents of the videos were registered, as well as impressions along the data collection process, that eventually resulted in the analysis of 29 videos from 8 different subjects. As inclusion criteria for choosing the videos, it was considered content from Brazilian people as long as they appear on YouTube?s search area when terms such as trans, transsexual, and transgender were typed; had shared content within at least 30 days; and identified oneself as trans, transgender, transsexual, trans man, or trans woman in at least one video. The videos analyzed in this research were publically shared by trans people, they are of general access to the population, and had previous visualization consent from their creators; therefore, this study did not demand the elaboration and application of the informed consent, or the approval or registration in the CEP/CONEP. The video analysis emerged the discussion of the spectacularization of trans identities and the gender performative affirmation processes, as well as the deconstruction of trans bodies in the virtual space. We also noted the emphasis of gender technologies such as surgeries and hormonal therapy in the videos of Brazilian trans people, thus creating success formats, a YouTube trans normative with its own segments. The discussion fostered in this study points to gender performativity on YouTube, to the importance of social media in the trans population?s representativity and visibility, and to the establishment and reproduction of singular video formats with trans themes on YouTube Brazil. / Este estudo buscou compreender como se d?o os os processos de afirma??o de g?nero de pessoas trans brasileiras que compartilham suas experi?ncias atrav?s de v?deos criados e compartilhados no website YouTube. Esta ? uma pesquisa qualitativa que utilizou a Netnografia como m?todo de investiga??o e an?lise dos dados. A fim de compreender e possibilitar a discuss?o das especificidades advindas da coleta de dados, foram utilizados os pressupostos de teorias p?s-estruturalistas como a Teoria Queer, estudos feministas e transfeministas. A coleta de dados ocorreu no campo virtual, mais especificamente no site YouTube, durante o segundo semestre de 2017, quando foi iniciado ? no momento da coleta, as Notas de Campo, onde foram registrados os conte?dos dos v?deos assim como impress?es ao longo da coleta, que resultou na an?lise de 29 v?deos de 8 pessoas diferentes. Como crit?rio de inclus?o dos dados, foram considerados v?deos de pessoas brasileiras, que aparecessem na ?rea de busca do YouTube quando digitado termos como trans, transexual e transg?ro; ter compartilhado conte?do h? pelo menos 30 dias, e se identificar como trans, transg?nero, transexual, homem trans ou mulher trans em algum de seus v?deos. Os v?deos analisados nesta pesquisa foram compartilhados publicamente por pessoas trans, sendo de acesso geral ? popula??o e tendo consentimento pr?vio de visualiza??o por parte de quem os criou, portanto este estudo n?o exigiu a elabora??o e aplica??o do Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido (TCLE) ou a aprova??o e registro sistema CEP/CONEP. A partir da an?lise dos v?deos, foi discutida a espetacularizac?o das identidades trans e dos processos de afirma??o de g?nero performatizados, al?m da (des)constru??o dos corpos trans no espa?o virtual. Percebeu-se tamb?m o destaque das tecnologias de g?nero, como cirurgias e terapias hormonais nos v?deos de pessoas trans brasileiras, criando um formatos de sucesso, uma normativa trans do YouTube, com segmentos pr?prios. As discuss?es fomentadas neste estudo apontaram para a performatiza??o do g?nero no espa?o do YouTube, para a import?ncia das m?dias sociais na representatividade e visibilidade da popula??o trans e do estabelecimento e reprodu??o de formatos singulares de v?deos com tem?ticas trans no YouTube Brasil.

From a symbolic perspective, in which the image is the link between men that makes possible the reading of social types in the imaginary, this work proposes to analyze and understand different manifestations of masculine in the animations of the Walt Disney Studios. To that end, understanding sociology will be allied with bibliographical research, in which encompasses multiple perspectives on the masculine gender, enabling the elaboration of instruments capable of assisting the recognition of the formative form (stylistic research). Allied to this methodology is the technique of contrasted pictures of the imaginary, which allows the reading of social forms and types, through a binary field of opposition, which, in this work, will be realized by the comparison between protagonist and antagonist characters, the animations Peter Pan (1953) and Wrecking Ralph (2012). / As anima??es de longa-metragem s?o um campo extremamente f?rtil do cinema, poderosa tecnologia do imagin?rio, e permitem a compreens?o de diversas representa??es advindas de um imagin?rio sociol?gico igualmente rico e complexo. A partir de uma perspectiva simb?lica, na qual a imagem ? o elo entre os homens, o que possibilita a leitura de tipos sociais no imagin?rio, este trabalho prop?e-se a analisar e compreender diferentes manifesta??es do masculino nas anima??es dos est?dios Walt Disney. Para tal entende-se que a sociologia compreensiva ser? aliada da pesquisa bibliogr?fica, que abarca m?ltiplas perspectivas sobre o g?nero masculino, possibilitando a elabora??o de instrumentos capazes de auxiliar no reconhecimento da forma formadora (pesquisa estil?stica).
