'n Analise van die sosiale waardes in die leefwêreld van Klemens van Aleksandrië soos vergestalt in sy Paidagogos (Afrikaans)Smit, Gerrit Daniel Stephanus 19 May 2008 (has links)
Biblical scholars have grown increasingly aware of the importance of looking at texts not only in their historical or literary contexts, but also in their socio-cultural contexts. Many studies have shown that honour and shame were core social values in the ancient Mediterranean world. By scrutinizing the available research on the topic of honour and shame, one realizes that there were indeed four major social values in the Mediterranean world, that is i) honour and shame, ii) patronage and reciprocity, iii) kinship and iv) purity. Modern biblical scholars would often appeal to the works of the classical authors in order to show how important these values were in the ancient world. Unfortunately claims that are being made in modern studies concerning honour and shame are usually based on the biblical and classical writings. These scholars seldom consult patristic writings. In this study it is argued that the ancient Church Fathers were indeed aware of these social values. The four social values mentioned above are taken as a basis to unlock the social context of Clement of Alexandria’s Paedagogue. It illustrates the importance of understanding the core social values of the Mediterranean society in order to interpret the theology of the early Church Fathers. / Thesis (DLitt (Greek))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Ancient Languages / unrestricted

Darstellung und Interpretation der Passion Jesu in ausgewählten Verfilmungen des Lebens Jesu / The presentation and interpretation of the Passion of Jesus in selected films about his lifeHeise, Werner 10 1900 (has links)
This thesis uses selected films to examine how the passion of Jesus is presented within the
process of social communication and which interpretation it is given. The decline of christian
socialisation leads to rising importance of communication by media. Starting with the controversies
about making films about the life of Jesus it will be shown, that the passion of Jesus as a central
story of christianity can be told in this media, what should be observed from a theological point
of view and the critical function of especially New Testament scholarship. The necessity of
audiovisual presentation of the passion as well as its interpretation completed by preaching within
the social context will be shown. / New Testament / M. Th. (New Testament)

"Kristi blod" i Första Petrusbrevet : rening från synd?Lund, Helena January 2021 (has links)
For modern New Testament readers, references to “the blood of Christ” can be perceived as strange and even unpleasant, since most people today associate blood with something negative. In this bachelor’s thesis, two passages in the 1 Peter are studied, which contain the motif of "the blood of Christ" - this outside a communion context. Based on the Swedish Bible translation and centuries of theological teachings, it is easy to think that the motif alludes to atonement theory and an idea of purification and liberation from sin. But is this really the matter? The author here explores both the meaning of "the blood of Christ" in these passages and what function they have in 1 Peter as a whole. The analysis is made through a historical-critical method focused on word study based on the Greek text, intertextuality and the many metaphors in the letter. Among other things, the author can show that "the blood of Christ" is part of an argumentation that is about helping the addressees to endure the social vulnerability they experience as Christians in the Greek-Roman society. By following Christ in his suffering, they will also be able to take part in his glorification and resurrection. In addition to the well-known references in 1 Peter to e.g. Isaiah 53 and Psalm 34, the author can also point to an intertextuality with Psalm 89. This deepens the theme of "The Lord's suffering servant" in the letter and strengthens the idea of identification in Christ for the addressees.

Text in German with summaries in German and English / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 204-212) / Das Matthäusevangelium ist in seiner literarischen Form eine Erzählung.
The Gospel of Matthew is a narrative in its literary form. Jesus, the meaning of his life, and his
divine mission constitute the central message of the Gospel of Matthew. The narrative exegesis
of Matthew is especially suited to the analysis and literary characterization of the teaching
methods of Jesus. Numerous passages show what special methods Christ used to instruct, accompany, and challenge his disciples. Essential passages of the Gospel of Matthew which reveal the teaching methods of Jesus and learning process of the disciple are first identified, then
narrowed down, and finally analyzed in their narrative. The results of Jesus’ teaching methods
are subsequently compared with contemporary experiential education. The presentation and
characteristic of the teaching methods of Jesus are compiled in this manner in order to discover
possible non- obvious meanings in the account of the teaching of Jesus and his methods. / New Testament / M. Th. (New Testament)

Text in German with summaries in German and English / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 197-211) / Biblical studies in New Testament are generating considerable interest in the investigation
of historical groups, for example by using prosopographic approaches. This thesis presents
a new approach to reconstruct the early Christian network in Acts 1-12. We consider the
social network analyses (SNA), critical spatiality and Proximal Point Analyses (PPA).
Although these approaches show interesting results, they suffer from a global distance
measure. Thus, we introduce a novel approach combining SNA and critical spatiality to
analyse geographic and social distances. This method represents a valuable alternative
to traditional theological tools for answering exegetical questions concerning the social
network in Acts 1-12 offering ways for re-thinking and re-interpretation. The network
represents the first fulfillment of the promise given in Acts 1:8. Moreover, it allows us to
distinguish between protagonists and their influence. Using different distance measurements, we were not only able to describe the high level of solidarity in this network but
could also find strong evidences for Peter, Philip and Barnabas being key figures. Acts
1-12 describes mission as led by God and performed by different people with Jerusalem
as the centre of activity. This mission is both peripheral and open to people with diverse
social, religious and geographic backgrounds. In the novel network of people belonging
to the body of Christ human leadership is not important. It was not possible to apply
this method to all exegetical questions due to the fact that there are only limited historic
sources available.
in Apg 1-12.
(New Testament)

Against many defenders of the Septuagint, namely, the Greek translation of the Old Testament, Jerome (347–420) claims the superiority of the original Hebrew text. Jerome names this idea Hebraica veritas, or "Hebrew Truth." Considering his theory of biblical translation and his understanding of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament, this study concludes that Jerome's real purpose concerning Hebraica veritas is to solve not only the philological problem between the Hebrew text and the Septuagint, but also the theological problem between these two texts and the Old Testament quotations.

Vem var det som kom på vägen? : Bibelbruk i Britt G. Hallqvists psalmerEricsson, Carl Eric January 2017 (has links)
