Patriarcado e raça na formação do campesinato nordestino /

Pereira, Maria Rosineide January 2019 (has links)
In this research, we intend to reflect on the patriarchy and the racial question while categories of analyses in this formation. In our view, this study is necessary due to the existing necessity to understand what role was destined to black women in the rural northeastern and what are the consequences of that legacy. Thereby, we aim to verify the invisibility and exploratory mechanisms over the black female labour in the northeastern peasantry. Moreover, the studies on the agrarian question in Brazil and the contemporary struggle movements possess a vast bibliography in diverse fields of the human sciences. However, these researches, since its origins, have focused almost exclusively on the class relations presents in the field and on the formation/constitution of the struggle movements for land, disregarding the multiplicity of relations established between the subject that construct the movement, like, for example, the ethnic-racial and gender relations. We start from the hypothesis that the gender and race debates are constituents of an understanding of the class question in Brazil and for the understanding of the dynamics of inequality in Brazil. In this sense, we part from the assumption that it is necessary to understand racism and the patriarchy as founding inequal... / Geopidemiology of dengue in the Alfenas city, Minas Gerais state - Brazil.

Nascimento, Murilo César do 21 October 2011 (has links)
The incidence of dengue in Alfenas-MG was studied between the years 2001 and 2010, through cross-sectional study, using variables related to the person, time and place of autochthonous cases of dengue, whose information was obtained in the Sinan, the socioeconomic variables were provided by IBGE and map data were provided by City Hall. In the descriptive analysis we used multivariate analysis and spatial analysis to describe the epidemiological profile of cases and spatial distribution of second homes urban neighborhoods, areas of the Family Health Program and census tracts of different socioeconomic groups. There was a heterogeneity of the spatial distribution of cases and the absence of spatial pattern of densities. The main clusters of cases were identified in areas uncovered by the Family Health Strategy, despite the frequency distributions were similar across socioeconomic strata, such features may be associated with the dynamics of viral circulation in the locality, considering the internal mobility and the human stream, and graded the performance of the Family Health Teams in the city.

Class acts : the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth earls of Crawford and their manuscript collections

Hodgson, John January 2017 (has links)
Throughout Victoria's reign, Lord Lindsay and his son Ludovic, respectively twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth earls of Crawford, created one of the largest private libraries ever assembled in Britain. The Bibliotheca Lindesiana included some six thousand manuscripts, which Ludovic sold to Enriqueta Rylands in 1901 for £155,000. The principal problematic that I address in this thesis is: Why did the earls of Crawford invest vast amounts of financial and cultural capital in this endeavour? In other words, what factors - both structural and specific - led to the formation of the library, what purposes did it serve, and what roles did its manuscript components in particular perform? Other questions include: How - and how successfully - did Lindsay and Ludovic maintain physical and intellectual control over the rapidly growing library? How did they position themselves within networks of connoisseurship and collecting in Victorian Britain? How was the formation of the Oriental manuscript collections connected with Lindsay's interest in racial classification and with wider racial discourses? And how did the library reflect and reinforce Lindsay's identity as a gentleman-scholar? Previous studies of this and other manuscript collections have adhered to an antiquarian, bio-bibliographical model, focusing on the detailed matter and mechanisms of collecting, rather than exploring the socio-cultural and epistemological contexts of their development. This thesis, by contrast, constitutes the first extended application of cultural theory to a manuscript collection, or indeed to any private library, in the nineteenth century. I combine close archival work with Bourdieu's concepts of field, capital and habitus to reveal the complex structuration and signification of the library, and to investigate the imbrication between the earls' personal agency and wider forces operating upon the library. My examination of the Bibliotheca Lindesiana has uncovered several key issues and themes hitherto unexplored in this or any other major private library of the nineteenth century. First, I argue that the reasons for the library's development reside principally in various forms of classification, which preoccupied Lindsay and reflected wider societal trends and taxonomies: the classification of libraries and the ramification of knowledge; Lindsay's deployment of the library to corroborate his and his family's social and cultural distinction (i.e. social classification); and an interest in racial classification, which reflected Orientalist discourses associated with imperialism. Secondly, while the dispersal of aristocratic collections in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is a familiar trope, this study is the first to contextualize the decline of a private library within the struggle between the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. Finally, this is the first examination of the impact of professionalization upon private as opposed to public libraries, revealing the tensions between amateur traditions and growing professionalism and specialization in the nineteenth century. I thus 'read' through the library some of the wider socio-economic and cultural issues operating in Victorian Britain and its empire.

Classe social e sujeito histórico : a aprendizagem de história no ensino fundamental

Pierosan, Maristela Rates January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is a multiple-cases study about the learning in History. The main focus of this study is the construction of the concept of historical subject and social classes by students from the final grades of Elementary School. The investigation was made through observation of the focus subject and reference subject, in the classroom context and individual clinical interviews with the subject. The concepts of historical subject and social classes have a Marxist background. The categories of analysis of the construction of these concepts are cooperation, decentering and the ability to make groupings. The theoretical reference used in this thesis is Genetic Epistemology. Studies in the Social Science areas, from Piaget’s theory, point to the possibility of decalage in the construction of knowledge in Social Science in relation to Natural Science. For the analysis of this aspect, it was taken as reference the studies of Juan Delval. The research data show the importance of classroom context with the possibility reducing this decalage.

Images of Pakeha-Māori: A Study of the Representation of Pakeha-Māori by Historians of New Zealand From Arthur Thomson (1859) to James Belich (1996)

Bentley, Trevor William January 2007 (has links)
This thesis investigates how Pakeha-Māori have been represented in New Zealand non-fiction writing during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The chronological and textual boundaries range from Arthur Thomson's seminal history The Story of New Zealand (1859) to James Belich's Making Peoples (1996). It examines the discursive inventions and reinventions of Pakeha-Māori from the stereotypical images of the Victorian era to modern times when the contact zone has become a subject of critical investigation and a sign of changing intellectual dynamics in New Zealand and elsewhere. This thesis is about the history of attitudes to culture-crossers in New Zealand, the use of the term 'Pakeha-Māori', and the images that underlie the thinking of Britons and Pakeha about them. It explores the motives and backgrounds of specific authors and the ways in which they frame New Zealand history. It elucidates the ambiguous and contradictory perspectives of Pakeha-Māori in the literature and analyses its impact on changing public perceptions about them. The study critiques the literature with emphasis on theoretically informed research, historical analysis, and literary insights. Discussion is confined to published texts, with the aim of exploring the multiplicity of Pakeha-Māori images and the processes that gave rise to them. This study is essentially an investigation into how and why historians and other scholars try to draw boundaries between cultures in order to create a satisfactory metanarrative or myth of the 'settlement' of New Zealand and thus to forge a sense of New Zealandness. The cultural and racial categories of 'Māori' and 'Pakeha' are very unstable, however, and a consideration of the 'in-between' or 'culture-crossing' category of 'Pakeha-Māori' can reveal the way in which 'Māori' and 'Pakeha' and a sense of New Zealand and New Zealanders have been constructed. More particularly, consideration of representations of those culture-crossers or race-crossers called Pakeha-Māori can reveal the hopes and fears of Pakeha writers regarding Pakeha, Māori and New Zealand and how Pakeha-Māori have frequently been a barometer or litmus test of public perceptions of relations between Māori and Pakeha in different historical periods.

Fashion and its property of fetishism in the consumer society

Cheng, Chih Wei Unknown Date (has links)
In the film Confessions of a Shopaholic, Rebecca is addicted to the overconsumption of fashionable clothes and shoes. Her singular case reveals an universal phenomenon of the consumer society in which consumers pursue fashion as an expression of self-identity. In counter to the conventional sociological dismissal of fashion to individual anomic behaviors, this thesis seeks to explore the logic of practice of fashion in the consumer society with an aim to rethink the classical question of social order. After being initiated into Benjamin's enchanting world of fashion, the thesis hypothesizes a theoretical model of the new social order which may be formulated as "Consumer society = Fashion + Property of Fetishism". Based on this hypothesis, the thesis puts forward two lines of arguments. Above all, practices of fashion in the consumer society are an integral part of cybernetic control in the maintenance of social order. Subsequently, the notion of fetish should be severed from conceptions of substance or subject prevalent in commonsense as well as scientific understanding, and reconceived as playing a medating role in the structuring and restructuring of society. The thesis is organized around three objects of analysis. First,we clarify dominant sociological accounts of fashion in the works of Simmel, Bourdieu and Bauman to outline an analytical framework whilst questioning the social-historical scenes those theoretical perspectives have possibly missed. Second, we operationalize the analytical notions of "social class" and "individuality" within social settings of fashion known as "dress to compete" and "dress in style", and then expound these widespread empirical phenomena of fashion by means of social history as well as individual psychology. Third, we review the conceptual development of "primitive fetishism ", "commodity fetishism" and "sexual fetishism" in relevant intellectual histories, and then apply the conceptual triad to the reinterpretation of fashion as a social phenomenon imbued with the practical property of fetishism. As a result, the thesis finds that the question of order in the consumer society is radically different from what the proponents of social contract and symbolic interaction have usually conceived. Instead, contemporary society mobilizes various mechanisms of fetishism to seduce consumer subjects so that they can actively contribute to social integration. In other words, a consumer is both master and slave in the game of fashion; nevertheless, this thesis ponders on the final possibility of fetishism as a political strategy, a heuristic question which might lead to future research.

Gränsöverskridande val och vägledning : En studie om studievägledning och breddad rekrytering inom högskola/universitet / Choices beyond the norms and student couselling

Rönn, Britt Marie January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to give a picture of how a number of student counsellors at the university look on their commission in the perspective of widening recruitment.</p><p>The thesis also showed what strategies the universities have to widen their recruitment and of how to use counselling for this purpose.</p><p>The method was qualitative and the result was founded on interviews with ten student counsellors from two different universities and from two persons who work overall with widening recruitment and diversity. This study shows that student counsellors regard widening recruitment as an important task in their work. It emerged under the interviews that counselling is more psychological than social, which means that the counsellors focus more on factors like interests, values and competence rather than social context with factors like social class and gender. There are elements of trait and factor thinking as well as a great deal of<strong> </strong>process thinking. The university regards student counselling as an important activity and is using it for widening recruitment, but the knowledge of  it and its use is somewhat undeveloped.</p><p>A vision for the future is that the counsellor has more the task of a social reformer. The counsellor would then be the one who encourages the student for choices beyond the norms.</p>
