Professionalisering av möten : En studie om hur möten som kommunikationsverktyg kan gynna företag och mötesindustrin / Professionalisation of meetings : a study on how meetings as a means of communications can benefit companies and the meeting industry

Bylund, Louise, Degernäs, Elinor, Öberg, Anna January 2009 (has links)
<p>This<strong> </strong>qualitative essay discusses some of the issues surrounding the lack of knowledge companies have about the importance of meetings as a means for company development. Today, many meetings are carried out without a well defined purpose and aim. As a result of this, the meeting industry is slowly beginning to become aware that companies have a need for professional guidance when drawing up a meeting. Meetings carried out should be stimulating for the company as well as the co-workers.  Companies should come to an awareness of the importance of meetings, and the full capacity of the meeting can be made use of, through using meetings as a means of communication. When companies carry out meetings the focus should be on the quality of the meeting, rather than the cost.  Meetings should be regarded as an investment, comparable to investments in physical capital. We think that this new way to plan and carry out meetings is a new direction within the meeting industry. This direction takes focus on a professionalisation of the content and purpose of the meeting. This development will benefit companies both within and outside the meeting industry. With a professionalisation, companies outside the meeting industry will replace a lot of inefficient meetings with less, but more efficient meetings. The professional meeting should be used as a tool for reaching success, competition benefits and development. The meeting industry will benefit from this process, since more companies would like to turn to experts, which contributes to a new direction with new services generating higher revenue.

Yeh, Yi Hsien Unknown Date (has links)
關鍵字:會議、會議流程、會議效率、溝通、協調 / English abstract The research is trying to understand and find out factors cause ineffectiveness in meeting process and obstacle in communication and coordination. First, the research analysis factors related with meeting process, and generalize the factors which affect meeting process communication and coordination. The research is conducted through case analysis by surveying a Taiwan’s constriction company’s cross-functional meeting process, and attended cross-functional meeting from June 2011 to December 2011, also interviewed the company’s senior managers. Then use the result of the observation to generalize factors which affect cross-functional meeting process communication and efficiency, and try to find out solutions to improve the constriction company’s communication and coordination. The research conclude the factors affects cross-functional meeting process communication and coordination as three part: First part includes: meeting process design, meeting staff, group member’s involvement before meeting, role in the meeting, introduction of meeting process. Second part includes: Introduction of project schedule, decision process, tracking process, group member’s involvement in the meeting, communication model, conflict management. Third part includes: Task type, composition of the group, and organizational factors. This research use those factors to examine the cross-functional meeting process in the company, and conclude the research propositions as follows: 1.The process of definition of role in the meeting and division of responsibilities will affect meeting member’s responsibility, and also will affect decision and communication process. 2.Meeting process’s conflict comes from vague responsibility scope and division, which cause cross-function cognitive differences and communication obstacle. 3.The composition of meeting ,includes people attend the meeting and size of meeting, has great effect to meeting process communication and coordination. 4.If the company use profit center as a system will increase member’s involvement and contribution. This research make some suggestion for the construction company, through improve the meeting process and process design.

"En god dag ger en god natt" : En kvalitativ studie över värdet för äldre att delta i kommunstyrda träffpunkter / "A good day gives a good night" : A qualitative study over the value for elderly to participate in municipality-controlled meeting points

Nykyforuk, Vita, Odkil, Kenth January 2018 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to create a deeper understanding of how meeting points can contribute to meaningfulness, good health and possess a preventive function of good ageing. Questions: In what ways does meeting coordinators believe that meeting points favors the well-being of elderly people, and do it satisfy their expectations? What function do the elderly who attend the meeting points feel that it fills in their lives and what do they find valuable with the participation? Theories: The sense of cohesion, the strength of weak ties, activity theory, continuity theory and the theoretical concept of loneliness. Method: The study used a qualitative method consisting of focus groups and semi structured interviews. Results and Analysis: Results and analysis were themed by the following themes: introduction to the meeting points, counteracting loneliness, meaningful existence and participation, the significance of a meeting coordinator, health-promoting activities and the importance of the meeting points for the elderly. The study showed it was largely elderly who experienced loneliness that visited the municipality-controlled meeting points. The results also indicate that meeting points are good places to counter loneliness and helps expand social networks and social ties. Results also showed that social ties to the meeting-coordinators are significant for the elderly to feel safe and, to a broader extent, participate in the meeting points. Elderly themselves felt that the most essential aspect of the meeting points were the prospect of social contacts and context. The study indicates that municipality-controlled meeting points contribute to meaningfulness in life and promote good health for the elderly through the social and physical activities offered there.

The digital work meeting : An overview of its opportunities, challenges and how to adapt the leadership

Rodman, Ellen, Swahn, Julia January 2020 (has links)
Background: Digitalization has changed how we meet, where we meet and how our meetings are expressed. Meetings occur in all organizations and since many work tasks are no longer tied to a specific geographical location, meetings are increasingly being held in a digital format. As more meetings become digital, organizations are faced with new opportunities as well as challenges. Previous research suggests that organizations need to adapt to the new work environment, not least the role of a meeting leader. What needs to be adapted and how it needs to be done is not stated, however, it is of great relevance to explain. The study therefore aims to identify which factors in a digital work meeting are important for its well-functioning. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of the digital meeting by highlighting its challenges and opportunities, and to explain how the role of a meeting leader is adapted to a digital meeting context. Methodology: This cross-sectional study has a qualitative approach based on a realistic perspective. The empirical data has been collected through semi-structured interviews with eight managers with experience of digital work meetings. Conclusion: The digital work meeting saves resources in the form of time and money, a flexible workplace and a more democratic opportunity to participate. At the same time, the experience, meeting place, choice of communication tools, disturbance, lack of body language and relationship creation are identified as the major challenges. The well-functioning digital work meeting is thus a meeting where the identified challenges have been reduced or, most preferably, eliminated, creating the right conditions for both meeting participants and the meeting leader. A well-functioning digital meeting requires an adapted meeting leadership, experience, working technology, rich communication tools, commitment and guidelines.

International conference site selection criteria : And a case study of Stockholm as an international conference city

Henaien, Moncef, Sinha, Shalvi January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to identify the destination site selection criteria for internationalconferences from the perspectives of the three main players of the conference industry, conference buyers (organizers and delegates) and suppliers. Additionally, the researchidentifies the strengths and weaknesses of the congress cities of Stockholm and Vienna.Through a comparison with Vienna, the top city for hosting international conferences, a roadmap for Stockholm has been designed, to strengthen its congress tourism opportunities, thus, obtaining a higher status as an international congress city. This qualitative research hascombined both primary and secondary data methods, through semi-standardized expertinterviews and secondary studies respectively, to fulfil the study’s aim. The data have beenanalysed by applying the techniques of qualitative content analysis; the secondary dataadopting an inductive approach according to Mayring (2003) while the expert interviewsusing a deductive approach according to Meuser &amp; Nagel (2009). The conclusions of thesecondary data have been further compared and contrasted with the outcomes of the primarydata, to propose fresh discoveries, clarifications, and concepts related to the site selectioncriteria for international conferences, and for the congress tourism industry of Stockholm. Theresearch discusses the discoveries of the site selection criteria, the implications of thestrengths and weaknesses of Stockholm in comparison to Vienna, recommendations forStockholm via a road map, and future research areas in detail. The findings andrecommendation, not only provide specific steps and inceptions that Stockholm as aninternational conference city can apply, but also propose findings, which can aid conferencebuyers and suppliers to cooperate, to strengthen their marketing strategies and developsuccessful international conferences and destinations to help achieve a greater competitiveadvantage.

Use of factorial biostatistical methods to investigate the relation between nutrition and cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study / Exploitation de méthodes biostatistiques factorielles pour l'investigation de la relation nutrition-cancer dans la cohorte Européenne sur le Cancer et la Nutrition (EPIC)

Assi, Nada 19 October 2016 (has links)
It has been estimated that about a third of cancer cases can be prevented by complying with a healthy diet and adhering to the recommendations in terms of nutrition. The nutrition-cancer relationship is a complex one, and its study is currently at a turning point with the opportunity and challenges brought by the recent technological advances in the fields of « -omics ».This thesis aims to develop new biostatistical approaches to investigate the nutrition-cancer relation within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and nutrition (EPIC) study. To do so, the applicability of new methodologies in the field of nutritional epidemiology has been examined.First, a new multivariate dimension reduction method, the Treelet Transform (TT) was applied to extract nutrient patterns relying on questionnaire data. The extracted patterns were more easily interpretable than those obtained with more classical methods. Then, an analytical framework was conceived for the « meeting-in-the-middle » (MITM) principle and applied to two nested case-control studies on hepatocellular carcinoma, with targeted and untargeted metabolomics data. The MITM aims to identify overlap biomarkers of certain exposures that are at the same time predictive of disease outcomes. The implementation focused on the application of partial least squares and mediation analyses. Last, the association between 60 plasma fatty acids levels assessed from biomarkers and breast cancer risk was examined in a nested case-control study in EPIC. This thesis will serve as a basis for future epidemiological applications looking into the nutrition-cancer relation

Samhällets öppna rum : Den samtida debatten om biblioteksrummet / The Open Space Of Society : The contemporary debate of the public library as a physical place and space

Söderblom, Randi January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to investigate and increase the understanding of a present function of today´s public library in a societal context. My aim is to examine how the role of the public library is discussed in Swedish media between 2012 – 2019. I want to get a broader understanding of the public library as a physical place and a space, through the theoretical frameworks of Raber´s ideological model. The theoretical frameworks are used in this study to examine these questions: How is the public library as a room discussed in present Swedish media? The functions of the public library of today is many, how is the different themes actualized in the library as a meeting place? What consequences does the debate contribute regarded to the picture of the public library and is it connected to the work for the legitimacy of the public library? The research field within Library and Information Science (LIS) is interdisciplinary with many references to social science theories. My qualitative study of content analysis builds upon theories of generating social capital. The aspect of the library as a space for inclusiveness and belongingness is a subject that is clearly stated in my study. My conclusion is that Raber´s social strategy is the dominant curse in the debate of the functions of the Swedish public libraries in present media. The legitimacy within the function as the hegemonic literacy discourse meets the legitimacy of the library as an open meeting place in my study.
