Os representantes sindicais e os segurados apontaram que a maior dificuldade foi a avaliação e conclusão médico-pericial para estes casos, ocorrendo inclusive pareceres antagônicos entre a assistência médica do SUS ou de convênios e a perícia médica / Abstract: Law nº 8213/91, in article 20, defines occupational disease as the disease acquired or unleashed by the special conditions in which work is done and has a direct relation to it. Once the causal relationship is confirmed, the worker receives compensation from the Brazilian National Social Security System for working disability, which is called accident-compensation. The technical nexus that establishes work-relatedness for compensation lies in the legal sphere of the expert medical board of the National Insurance and Social Security Institute 1(INSS). In order to obtain the recognition of the causal relationship, which assures some rights to the insured worker, it is necessary to file a claim at the INSS to change the type of compensation (from social security illness-compensation to accident-compensation). The aim of this study is to identify the institutional hindrances (medicolegal roadblocks) in the path to obtain the concession of illness compensation from the Social Security System. The investigation was carried out at the Social Security Agency in the town of Indaiatuba, state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is a descriptive study with 148 cases analyzed for this purpose in the period between 1995 and 2004, in a listing dated November 8th, 2004. The source of data used in this study was derived from CATs2 pertaining to claims filed to change benefits from illness-compensation to accident-compensation and subsequent interviews with the claimants, with employees at the Social Security Agency and union representatives of five entities with headquarters in town. The study reached the conclusion that machine operators, mean age 37, with musculoskeletal disorders, were the most frequent claimants. The proportion between genders, however, was homogeneous. Establishing the relation between work and illnesses was difficult due to technical and policy-administrative problems, as pointed out by the employees at the Agency. Union representatives and claimants referred that the greatest difficulty lied in the evaluations and conclusions of the expert medical board at the INSS for these claims. There were even opposing reports between clinicians working for SUS(the public medical care system)or for private health-insurers and the medical experts at the INSS / Mestrado / Epidemiologia / Mestre em Saude Coletiva

The purpose of this qualitative master thesis is to investigate the cultural activity experiencesof employees and their meaning for well-being and work satisfaction. The method used inthis study was thematic analysis. The data collection was conducted through eightsemi-structured interviews with employees in a municipal department that participated incultural activities organized by their employer as a part of their ordinary work tasks. In theresult three main themes emerged with appurtenant sub-themes: The experience of increasedsocial interaction in the workplace (Promoting fellowship and cohesion in the workplace,New and deepened relationships with colleagues, and Conversations and discussions withcolleagues), The experience of a changed view of the workplace (Feeling appreciated by theemployer, The experience that cultural activities benefit the workplace, and The experience ofhow the cultural activities have been arranged), and The experience that cultural activitieslead to benefits for the individual (Something out of the ordinary and Enriching for theindividual). The main themes, together with their sub-themes, describe how the culturalactivities have been perceived to have affected social relations, increased well-being in theworkplace and enriched the individuals. The results are largely in line with previous researchand can be linked to established theories. All together, from what has emerged in the resultsand previous research the conclusion can be drawn that cultural activities could be used inwork-life to promote the individuals well-being and job satisfaction.

Kvinnliga fastighetsmäklares utsatthet för könsdiskriminering och sexuella trakasserier i fastighetsmäklaryrket i Sverige / Female Real Estate Agents’ Exposure to Gender Discrimination and Sexual Harassment in the Real Estate Industry in Sweden

Fröjdh, Elina January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to contribute with more knowledge about gender discrimination and sexual harassment directet towards real estate agents in Sweden. Questions answered are: How do real estate agents perceive the organizational culture at their workplace? Does gender discrimination and sexual harassment occur in the industry? If so, to what extent, and how is it expressed? The study is based on a quantitative method, using an internet based questionnaire, answered by female real estate agents in Sweden. The results of the study show that the real estate agents are considered to have a culture in the workplace that allows conversations about the work environment, but on the other hand, less than half of them know whether the workplace has an approach for handling poor work environment health. The study also shows that gender discrimination and sexual harassment occur in the real estate industry against female real estate agents. It is shown that the person who discriminates/harasses is a manager, colleague/colleague in the industry and/or customer/speculator. The action can be expressed both verbally and physically.

Participatory research with hospital social workers in a primary health care context

Sihlobo, Alice 01 1900 (has links)
We conducted the study to explore and define the role of the social worker in Primary Health Care. The medical care model on its own is viewed as inappropriate for developing countries. We see Primary Health Care as holding the key to improving the health status of the many disadvantaged communities in South Africa. The Primary Health Care approach demands those health care providers, including social workers work collaboratively to provide the best possible services to the communities. Social Work is a profession concerned with the disadvantaged. However, social workers are assigned a very limited role in Primary Health Care. Since participants are concerned about subjective and experiential realities, participatory research was the appropriate research method. The major findings and conclusions were that, social workers have a role in Primary Health Care. They have to be assertive and tell others what is it that they do to find a place in Primary Health Care / Social Work / M.A. (Social Science (Mental Health))

Physical, emotional and sexual child abuse victimisation in South Africa : findings from a prospective cohort study

Meinck, Franziska January 2014 (has links)
Background: Child abuse in South Africa is a significant public health concern with severe negative outcomes for children; however, little is known about risk and protective factors for child abuse victimisation. This thesis investigates prevalence rates, perpetrators, and locations as well as predictors of physical, emotional and sexual child abuse victimisation. It also examines the influence of potential mediating and moderating variables on the relationships between risk factors and child abuse. Methods: In the first study, a systematic review of correlates of physical, emotional and sexual child abuse victimisation in Africa was conducted. The review synthesised evidence from 23 quantitative studies and was used to inform the epidemiological study. For study two to four, anonymous self-report questionnaires were completed by children aged 10-17 (n=3515, 57% female) using random door-to-door sampling in rural and urban areas in two provinces in South Africa. Children were followed-up a year later (97% retention rate). Abuse was measured using internationally recognised scales. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, multivariate logistic regressions, and mediator and moderator analyses. Results: The first study, the systematic review, identified high prevalence rates of abuse across all African countries. It identified a number of correlates which were further examined using the study data from South Africa. The second study found lifetime prevalence of abuse to be 54.5% for physical abuse, 35.5% for emotional abuse, 14% for sexual harassment and 9% for contact sexual abuse. Past year prevalence of abuse was found to be 37.9% for physical abuse, 31.6% for emotional abuse, 12% for sexual harassment and 5.9% for contact sexual abuse. A large number of children experienced frequent (monthly or more regular) abuse victimisation with 16% for physical abuse, 22% for emotional abuse, 8.1% for sexual harassment and 2.8% for contact sexual abuse. Incidence for frequent abuse victimisation at follow-up was 12% for physical abuse, 10% for emotional abuse and 3% for contact sexual abuse. Perpetrators of physical and emotional abuse were mostly caregivers; perpetrators of sexual abuse were mostly girlfriends/boyfriends or other peers. The third study found a direct effect of baseline household AIDS-illness on physical and emotional abuse at follow-up. This relationship was mediated by poverty. Poverty and the ill-person’s disability fully mediated the relationship between household other chronic illnesses and physical and emotional abuse, therefore placing children in families with chronic illnesses and high levels of poverty and disability at higher risk of abuse. The fourth study found that contact sexual abuse in girls at follow-up was predicted by baseline school drop-out, physical assault in the community and prior sexual abuse victimisation. Peer social support acted as a protective factor. It also moderated the relationship between baseline physical assault in the community and sexual abuse at follow-up, lowering the risk for sexual abuse victimisation in girls who had been physically assaulted from 2.5/1000 to 1/1000. Conclusion: This thesis shows clear evidence of high levels of physical, emotional and sexual child abuse victimisation in South Africa. It also identified risk and protective factors for child abuse victimisation which can be used to inform evidence-based child abuse prevention interventions.

A process evaluation of a workplace HIV and AIDS policy implementation at Sappi-Ngodwana Mill in Mpumalanga

Muregi, Zibusiso 02 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This study sought to evaluate the implementation of an HIV and AIDS workplace policy at Sappi-Ngodwana mill. Employing process evaluation, and adopting a qualitative approach, the study evaluated the intervention process, the perceptions of the policy implementers, the strengths and weaknesses of the policy implementation, and suggests possible strategies for addressing the challenges. A systems approach was the theoretical point of departure and guiding framework of the research study. Research data was gathered through in-depth interviews with key informants and theory-driven and data-driven inductive reasoning was adopted in analysing the data. The general findings were that although the Sappi-Ngodwana mill implements a comprehensive HIV and AIDS programme that are in line with national and international benchmarks, there were challenges identified. Recommendations are that the company redesign the HIV and AIDS policy implementation plan with a specific focus on improving the peer educators` system. / Sociology / M.A. (Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS)
