Ferreira, Melissa da Silva 09 May 2014 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-12-08T16:03:15Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 116008.pdf: 425836 bytes, checksum: eef24835bf08e94d2a0c29d05c76f67b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-05-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This study examines the articulation between artistic creation, pedagogy of theatre and actor training as explored at Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, an italian theatre company. Some works, artistic processes as well as laboratories are analysed in order to understand the connection between theatre pedagogy and contemporary theatre through works created by Romeo Castellucci, Chiara Guidi and Claudia Castellucci. It discusses the role played by infancy in the company s path, due to the specific way children are involved in this process which takes advantage of the way they see the world and art. In the first part of this study the Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio s work is presented. Artistic and pedagogic practices developed by the company are examined in the second part, which reveals in turn the specificity of the work created by the company s founders. The third part analyses creative processes through direct observation, during a field study in Italy. The fourth part relates the material provided in the previous chapters. To sum up, this study recognizes that one of the peculiarities of the work produced by Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio is associated with the weakening the limits between acting background and theatre pedagogy, between acting experience and learning processes, between acting and reception. These characteristics contribute to the emergence of a new approach to theatre knowledge, in which procedures, dispositives, strategies and theatre pedagogy are deeply intertwined.

La récriture des classiques : Goethe et Schiller dans le théâtre d'Elfriede Jelinek (Ulrike Maria Stuart, FaustIn and out) / Rewriting the classics : Goethe and Schiller in the theatre of Elfriede Jelinek (Ulrike Maria Stuart and FaustIn and out)

Klein-Rouquier, Delphine 11 December 2015 (has links)
Since her literary debut, the classics have regularly surfaced in the highly intertextual writing of Elfriede Jelinek by means of fragmentary and fleeting citations. Her recent dramatic productions are marked by an ever greater confrontation with the Germanic classics, with numerous rewritings produced since the mid-2000s. Among these, the play Ulrike Maria Stuart (published online over three days in 2006 and only published in print in 2015) echoes Friedrich Schiller’s play Marie Stuart, while FaustIn and out (accessible free of charge on Jelinek’s website since 2011) toys with the “immeasurable” work of Goethe, (Ur-)Faust. This study unravels the different strata of the palimpsest and revises the spaces occupied by rewriting through a well-defined path, an approach with multiple entry points that allows the functioning and issues of rewriting to be described from the perspective of both its production and its reception, notably in form of dramatization. By analysing how the space of rewriting evolves into a sort of unwriting and takes advantage of “secondary” or minor (Deleuze) writing, the macrostructural, aesthetic, and socio-literary stakes of these texts emerge. The confrontation with classicity resonates with the new positioning of the author within the literary field, especially through the process of the classicisation of her works, and influences the uncommon editorial approach framing the works of the corpus under investigation.

Deschamps, Gabrielle 12 1900 (has links)
Many studies have already examined the singular place occupied by the character in Larry Tremblay’s dramaturgy. This Quebec author’s works are filled with many individuals who are deeply affected by the environment they live in. For the past 20 years, the playwright’s particular interest in the theme of media has been observed. By creating plays in which the media are at the forefront, Larry Tremblay takes a critical look at an important aspect of current society. In the context of this thesis, the objective is therefore to study more specifically Tremblay’s characters who are in environments pervaded by the media. In order to show how the author exposes the negative impacts of the power of the media, we will address the question of the gaze, the banality, the void, the narcissism, as well as that of the disillusion that touches our time. The analysis of Ogre (1995), Téléroman (1997) and Grande écoute (2015) will demonstrate that it is through characters whose identity is crumbling and changing that Larry Tremblay denounces the most disastrous consequences stemming from the media for individuals. The purpose of this thesis is to grasp the evolution of the author’s thought regarding media and to understand how his characters have evolved over time alongside the media.

Béland-Leduc, Anne 09 1900 (has links)
This master’s thesis addresses three works of the Quebec playwright Olivier Choinière, Beauté intérieure, Projet blanc and Manifeste de la Jeune-Fille with the aim of highlighting the possibilities of spectator emancipation. From his very beginnings, Choinière has held a critical discourse on the theater spectator, and he consequently seeks to include and involve him in his creations. In the light of the theories of reception and especially those of Jacques Rancière in Le spectateur émancipé, this master’s thesis aims to assess the emancipatory possibilities of Choinière's work by analyzing the different means he uses to include the spectator, both formally and politically. At the heart of Rancière's theory is the spectator paradox, which refers to the various means used by contemporary playwrights to force spectator activity and which, according to him, undermine his emancipation. This dissertation will therefore analyze Choinière's work, paying particular attention to the possible reproduction of this paradox in order to establish a degree of probable spectator emancipation in the three chosen pieces.

Devirieux, Sophie 10 1900 (has links)
This thesis offers a critical perspective on the political aspects of contemporary theatre in Quebec by using a comparative perspective with German theatre, with a particular focus on the cities of Montreal and Berlin. The author explores staging methods, gestures, and various strategies used by theatre artists to adopt political stances through theatre such as : the use of the real, translation, adaptation, and irony. The connection between Montreal and Berlin is highlighted through various gestures but also through the historical and symbolic role Germany has long held for Québécois theatre artists. This analysis will take into account a corpus of recent productions subject to international presentation : ("Le NoShow" (2013) from the artist collective Nous Sommes Ici and the Bunker theatre, "Fear" (2015) by Falk Richter, "100% Montréal" (2017) by Rimini Protokoll, Shakespeare’s "Macbeth" staged in 2016 by Angela Konrad, "Ein Volksfeind" by Henrik Ibsen staged in 2012 by Thomas Ostermeier and "Dans la République du bonheur" by Martin Crimp staged in 2015 by Christian Lapointe). Drawing on the author’s own experiences working as a dramaturg in Quebec, the thesis adopts an intermedial approach in order to explore the political aspects of the aforementioned works ; thus, it looks at what traditions are conveyed and what aesthetics are deployed through staging, as well as a host of other mechanisms, whose aim it is to garner audience sympathies. This intermedial approach will also shed a light on those elements by using the context of production, the institutional operations of theatres as to how they are financed, and the power relationships within the performing arts sector. By determining the contradictions in the studied works, this thesis will critique the politics of contemporary theatre through a practical methodology.

Performing Mother and Daughter : A Postdramatic Performance Analysis of Three Contemporary Theatre Productions

Sandberg Hensch, Elin January 2023 (has links)
This master’s thesis is concerned with the portrayal of motherhood and mother-daughter relationships on stage. By conducting performance analyses of three separate contemporary performances, all focused on mother-daughter relationships, the thesis investigates the creation of mother and daughter on stage. Through the lens of Hans-Thies Lehmann’s theory on postdramatic theatre, the thesis dissects aspects of the performances moving beyond the dramatic action to gain further insight into the portrayal of mother and daughter on stage. The thesis aims to investigate the aspects contributing to the creation of mother and daughter on stage, as well as analyse the conveyed meaning of the relationship between them. Combined with a feminist approach, the role of mother and daughter on stage is placed in a larger context, analysing motherhood as an institution and concept, both on and off stage. By understanding the intimate and complex mother-daughter relationship as a product of patriarchal structure, it becomes necessary and relevant to investigate this relationship further. Since the performances portray private relationships in a public space, the analysis is also concerned with the interrelation between the stage and the outside world. The analysed performances are Und dann kam Mirna at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin, Kung Mor at Teater Galeasen in Stockholm and Mommy Issues at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm. The material for the thesis mainly consists of my experiences of the performances in the role of spectator and the theatre texts. By using Lehmann’s theory as a starting point, the analyses are centred around moving beyond the narrative to investigate other aspects on stage, such as objects, physicality, levels of reality, intertextuality, intermediality and the use of text on stage. The thesis dissects how these aspects contribute to the creation of mother and daughter on stage, as well as analyses the portrayed generational differences and their impact on the mother-daughter relationship in the performances. The analyses place the portrayed mothers and daughters into a larger context, by including concepts such as performativity and the male gaze. The thesis shows how the portrayal of motherhood and mother-daughter relationships on stage can be created by reaching beyond a narrative or a desired understandability. Together, the three performance analyses contribute with concluding insights into the internal logic and structures of the performances.

Beaudin-Gagné, David 01 1900 (has links)
The first part of this thesis consists of a short theatrical text entitled Procès-Verbal. It features a fragmentary story and explores the ideas of burst identity, broken memory and mimicry. These themes are related with mechanisms of repetition, minimalist formal treatment and abundant silences, representative of the faded identity of the characters. The second part of the thesis, entitled Filiation(s) rompue(s) : mémoire en pièces et tissus de parole, gets into the themes of memory and heritage in Hervé Bouchard’s novel Parents et amis sont invités à y assister. The analysis aims to highlight the link between textual fragmentation and disrupted legacy. It focuses specifically on the dislocation of speech, indication of a broken identity.

Ligeiro deslocamento do real: experiência, dispositivo e utopia na cena contemporânea / Slight displacement of the real: experience, device and utopia in the contemporary scene

Saturnino, Andrea Caruso 31 May 2017 (has links)
The thesis proposes a reflection on contemporary theatre\'s confrontation with current social transformations. In this moment of uncertainty and inversion of values, theatre incorporates discussions on sensitive themes while innovating its language, using technological devices that provide different modes of interaction with the public. The absence of actors on stage raises questions about what ultimately defines the theatre, while the sharing of personal experiences by actors, expands the understanding of the insertion of the real into the scene. We seek to approach reoccurring aspects of the current scene, analyzing two shows in each of the three parts of this research. We turn to the concept of theatricality as a unique tool to explore a very contemporary practice. In this way, it seeks to respond to the demands of theatre Practice and Theory field, which favors researches that combine practice and reflection.
