A Call for Justice: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Climate Justice at the COP26

Susan, Elliot January 2022 (has links)
This master thesis examines the representation of climate justice discourses at the by various parties at the COP26 in Glasgow, 2021 and how these are manifested in the subsequent policy outcome, the Glasgow Pact. To coherently categorize the wide interpretations of climate justice, this study adopts a theoretical framework proposed by Schapper (2018), where climate justice is differentiated through international, intra-societal and intergenerational dimensions. Through the lens of critical discourse analysis, statements made at the higher-level segment of the event are analyzed according to their storylines to identify which climate justice discourses are exercised by varying actors. The sample consists of 17 statements of various countries categorized by different coalitions. In comparison, the findings indicate that the Glasgow Pact recognizes most discourses in some form, but that it sides with developed nations on account of knowledge claims, non-binding policy language and an absence of any discourse on historical responsibility or the right to use fossil fuels. Consequently, the mismatch of what is said and done reveals power imbalances at the negotiations, and therefore threaten the credibility of the COP as a fair and inclusive arena for climate negotiations.

Skalman - Prototypen för dem med minnessvårigheter

Ahlgren, Janni January 2019 (has links)
The prototype for people with memory impairmentsThis study aims to examine how and if it is possible to use Benyons PACT-analysis togetherwith Gong and Tarasewichs 15 design principles, to make the process from an idea into a finalinteractive prototype. The prototype is named Skalman. This study focuses on people withmemory impairments, specifically those people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The aimwith the PACT-analysis was to analyse the target group through four different subjects, People,Activities, Context and Technologies and to use that to find the needs for Skalman that in theend will help the users to manage and organize their daily lives. Three group interviews weremade to collect data from the selected target group for the PACT-analysis. Two groupinterviews included a person with memory impairments/Alzheimer’s disease and one relative ofthis person to help and support throughout the interview. Thereafter an interview was made withthe chancellors of Alzheimer’s Sweden to gather additional information and to increase theunderstanding of the disease and its difficulties. The result of the analysis was then used, together with the design principles to develop a LO-FI prototype and was then tested on thetarget group in order to evaluate the prototype and to improve it to the final result of a HI-FIprototype of Skalman.

Shadows of War: Arms Control and the Military Confrontation in Central Europe during the Cold War

Bluth, Christoph 30 November 2020 (has links)
No / The military dimension of the Cold War was characterised by the strategic nuclear stand-off between the United States and the Soviet Union as well as the large-scale regional military confrontation in Central Europe. As part of the process of East-West détente there was an effort to address the risks of war in Europe by means of an arms control process referred to as MBFR (Mutual and Balanced Force Reductions). The true purposes and intentions of both sides (NATO and the Warsaw Pact) in these negotiations has so far not been fully understood. This book is based on path-breaking archival research that clarifies the objectives and tactics of the parties to the negotiations and the reasons for why the negotiations ended without an agreement. It makes a major new contribution to the understanding of Cold War History.

Budget Institutions in the Euro Area Quality of budget institutions, legislative budgetary power and implications for fiscal discipline

Catania, Moira January 2019 (has links)
This study assesses the quality of national budget institutions and legislative budgetary power in the Euro Area (EA) and examines their implications on fiscal discipline. Following the sovereign debt crises, common EA requirements have been introduced for national budget institutions, most notably for fiscal rules and independent fiscal councils. Meanwhile, the legislature has a key role to ensure that budgetary decisions are democratically legitimate, but strong legislative budgetary power is generally associated with less fiscal restraint. Two comprehensive composite indices are produced, based on recent data which captures reforms implemented after the Crisis. The findings show that overall, budget institutions in the EA are of medium quality, whilst legislative budgetary power is weak. Notwithstanding the thrust for a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, the specific characteristics of budget institutions differ considerably among the EA countries. Furthermore, results from a two-way fixed effects panel model for 2006-2015 show a positive relationship between the quality of budget institutions and the budget balance, but, in contrast to previous studies, the effect is rather weak. Being supra-nationally mandated, recent reforms to budget institutions in EA member states may suffer from a lack of ownership, thus impinging on their effectiveness to instil fiscal discipline. A qualitative case study on Malta provides further insight into the limitations of centrally-mandated institutional reforms. Finally, the findings suggest that stronger legislative budgetary power does not necessarily jeopardise fiscal discipline, if this involves a broad role of the legislature in the budgetary process, beyond amendment powers.

Mind your own business-to-business : En fallstudie om hur användbarhet och användarupplevelse kan förbättras inom e-handelsportaler för B2B.

Ferreira de Alencar, Bruno, Eriksson, Isak January 2016 (has links)
Despite the fact that business-to- business (B2B) is clearly over-represented in today's global e-commerce, the portals designed for this purpose are characterized by greatly inferior usability and user experience compared to those in other areas of e-commerce. Thus, the purpose of this study is to clarify areas of concern regarding the usability that can be identified in the e-commerce portals intended for B2B. Further the research aims to practically show how system development methodologies, frameworks and design principles can be applied to address the identified problem areas. To conduct the study, interviews were held with a group of informants with experience in e-commerce portals in B2B. In addition, an existing e-commerce portal for B2B was analyzed and re-designed based on the chosen theory and previous research. The results of the study present a set of identified problem areas, a practical example of an improved e-commerce portal as well as how a specific system development approach, framework and set of design principles can be implemented to elevate the usability and user experience.

La réception de l’œuvre de Le Clézio : les nouvelles / Reception in the work of Le Clézio : short stories

Sheibanian, Maryam 29 January 2010 (has links)
The work of Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio has already been the subject of numerous investigations, but they provide little lights on the potential reader who is nevertheless an essential literary phenomenon. The role of the reader as receiver of the work has a particular importance on the quality of the act of communication because he receives the book with the sum of his prejudices and aspirations. He participates in the production of meaning and development of themes that run through the work of the writer. What is the virtual reader’s image as projected in the text of Le Clézio? What is his role in creating the work? And how does the author manage to minimize the distance between writing and reading? We try to answer these questions by making a sémiostylistique analysis on short story cycles of the writer : Fever, Mondo and Other Stories, The Round and Other cold Hard Facts, Spring and other seasons and Burn Heart and Other Romances.

Mediální obraz vstupu vojsk Varšavské smlouvy do Československa ve vybraných italských denících Media portrayal of Warsaw pact invasion to Czechoslovakia in selected Italian newspapers Bc. Sabina Růžičková Abstract The diploma work "Media portrayal of Warsaw pact invasion to Czechoslovakia in selected Italian newspapers" brings closer look at this historical phenomena from the view of several Italian newspapers. The task was to analyze journals published on the Apennine Peninsula and their reporting about this invasion regarding their political profile. The examined units were the form, the content and size of reports. In the beginning of my thesis, I was trying to provide a closer look at the situation in Czechoslovakia in 1968, the process of becoming more liberal and free, which was violently interrupted in August 1968 by the Warsaw troops. In the end of my diploma, I used a comparative historical analysis to see how the particular Italian media informed its readers about the situation and how much they different in the point of view at the situation

A Folha de S. Paulo e o governo Hugo Chávez: (2002-2005)

Salgado, Tiago Santos 15 May 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-27T19:30:44Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Tiago Santos Salgado.pdf: 1751953 bytes, checksum: b6e8a2f4cd3c384d0cbef2f819526008 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-05-15 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The objective of this study is to determine how one of the three largest circulation national newspapers in Brazil Folha de S. Paulo covered Venezuela and President Hugo Chávez between the years 2002-2005. During this period Venezuela went through one of the most troubled times in its recent history with a coup in 2002, strikes, social demonstrations, recall referendums and the opposition refusal to participate in the legislative elections in 2005 facts that justify the attention given to the country by the communications media. In the development of this dissertation points pertinent to the methodology adopted and relevant historical aspects recovered from the trajectory of the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo are clarified within its chapters. A full background on recent Venezuelan history is seen, from the introduction of liberal democracy in the country in 1958, based on the role of traditional political parties such as Acción Democrática and COPEI and the agreement known as the Punto Fijo Pact, that was responsible for the adoption of neo-liberal policies that led to crises in the decades of the 1980s and 1990s and which resulted in the election of Hugo Chávez in 1998. Analysis is also seen of Folha de S. Paulo s editorial coverage in relation to the Venezuelan government and highlighting of the arguments that led this paper to consider it undemocratic, besides explaining the paper s understanding of democracy and how this could be linked to a liberal definition of the concept, as well as proceeding to an analysis of the Venezuelan opposition newspaper and the similarities between the coverage of Folha and that of private Venezuelan communication media against the government established by Chávez. In this way the analysis recurs to the interwoven critique of Hugo Chávez and the construction of his images as a populist leader a concept that became the subject of considerable historical discussion, bearing negative value from the links of his profile as a politician who deceived and manipulated the populace. Thus, we have aimed at a critical look at the concepts used by the Folha de S. Paulo to explain the nature of the Chávez government, beginning with data of the Venezuelan social reality that could explain the nature of the Chávez government and how it became possible to identify the ideology propagated by the Brazilian newspaper recovered from identification of the social function to which it complies as a vehicle of the major press and media and its influence in shaping Brazilian public opinion in relation to its neighboring country / O trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar a cobertura realizada pelo jornal brasileiro Folha de S. Paulo um dos três jornais do país que conta com ampla circulação nacional no que se refere à Venezuela e ao presidente Hugo Chávez entre os anos de 2002 e 2005.
