Fradet, Pierre-Alexandre 08 1900 (has links)
Although studies of the relation between Derrida and Bergson are few and far between, they nearly all share a common vision: that of attenuating – or even altogether eliminating – the divisions between the two philosophers’ thought, by considering their more fundamental convergences. The following pages will allow us to counterbalance this common interpretation. Without denying the points that Derrida and Bergson do have in common, we will show an important divergence in opinion between the two on the idea that intuition is possible and founded. While Derrida lays doubt on intuitionist doctrine, Bergson establishes intuition as a philosophical method. This thesis examines the motives behind this divergence. Put simply, a comparison of Derridian and Bergsonian thought reveals a partial disagreement that enables fruitful reflection about whether or not intuition is possible. More precisely, we pursue three objectives here: i/ to clearly identify the scope of the disagreement between Derrida and Bergson, often overlooked by previous commentaries, showing that it includes a partial agreement; ii/ to clarify the diverse reasons leading Derrida to deny the very existence of intuition while Bergson embraces intuition as a philosophical method; and iii/ to show that certain Bergsonian arguments, although enjoying a resurge in interest in recent years, appear unable to stand up to several different objections.

They would never put an ugly guy there” : Young men on the image of men in magazines

Voksepp, Patrice, Paulsen, Eva January 2005 (has links)
Our study aims to discover how young men aged 15-19 perceive the image of men in women’s magazines. To do this we let eight young men read the two women’s magazines most read by young women their own age, Vecko Revyn and Cosmopolitan. We want to find whether they consider this image to be representative of their own reality. We are also interested in their opinion when it comes to possible consequences of this image as well as their ideas on how men should be portrayed. We used a combination of different methods. First, we used introspection by letting each of the young men note down their thoughts in a diary while reading the magazines. We then used qualitative interviews to further explore their opinions. We applied the method of phenomenology to our research, which allowed us to concentrate solely on the young men’s experiences without regard to our own opinions or interpretations. Our study shows that the majority of the young men in our study consider the image of men in magazines to be stereotyped, sexualized and lacking in complexity. They express a wish to see more ordinary men as well as different sides of men. Also, there is an interesting contradiction between the young men’s ideals which are very traditionally masculine and their criticism of these values being portrayed in the magazines. Furthermore, there is a noticeable gap in insight between the 15-year olds and the other young men. The youngest two alone accept the image of men in the magazines. All of the young men deny that they are affected by the image of men in the magazines, though they express their concern that other, weaker individuals as well as young women may be affected.

Dursjö, Louise January 2020 (has links)
Dance figure skating – A comparison between a score executed on ice and on floor This work derives from a curiosity of how figure skating and contemporary dance as two different art formscould work together. In what ways can different techniques within the fields of contemporary dance and figureskating inspire and develop each other? Video analysis together with introspection are used as methods. A scorewith different techniques from each field is recorded on the ice and on the floor. This material together with awritten introspection contains the base for the analysis and discussion together with relevant literature from thetwo fields. There are both similarities and clashes when analysing the results of the scores. Gliding and being onedges are fundamentals in figure skating and they are not transferable to floor. Falling and catching the fall issomething that turns out to be restricted to the floor since the skates makes edges while leaning and glidinginstead of falling. There are more explorations to be done when it comes to merging the two art forms together, hopefully this essay will give some inspiration to further work within contemporary skating.

Det ensamma ledarskapet : En kvalitativ studie om upplevelser av ledning i det mindre företaget utan HR / The solitary leadership : A qualitative study on experiences of leadership in the smaller business without HR

Karlsson, Jörgen January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to, through a qualitative research method, seek an understanding of and try to capture experiences of what it is like to lead the smaller business without an HR department. The study intended to investigate how, among other things, the lack of HR support can be experienced for the relatively solitary leader. The starting point has been taken based on the leadership role. Around this, theories have been gathered that can in some way be linked to experiences in the management position, from management models to basic social psychological aspects. Six interviews have been conducted with four men and two women at the highest management level within each company. Each respondent has different experiences and educations and represents widely different industries. The interviews have been recorded and then carefully transcribed into text for processing and analysis. Analysis has initially been carried out on the basis of Grounded theory, where all theory and pre-understanding is set aside as much as possible in order to categorize the texts in two steps, in a type of thematization. Interview responses have then been connected with the theoretical framework and existing research, and then interpreted based on this. The study's conclusions point to many similarities in experiences at the various businesses. Many challenges are shared by all and the same goes for rewards. In some cases, they differ for various reasons. The results indicate that working with people is experienced as the most challenging and demanding, but also as one of the most positive. But there are clouds of concern of slightly different kinds depending on the business sector. There is also support based on obtaining for the leader through slightly different strategies, according to the respondents in the study. Leadership in the smaller company without HR, as the title of the study indicates, can sometimes be experienced as lonely. But it doesn't have to be all the time.

Metacognition Across Different Modalities in Health and Disease

Arbuzova, Polina 04 April 2024 (has links)
Metacognition, the ability to introspect into one's cognitive processes, can guide human behaviour across various domains. The debate whether metacognition operates in a more domain-general or a domain-specific fashion remains inconclusive, with most studies focused on sensory and memory domains. This thesis argues that to resolve this question, it is necessary to broaden the scope of domains, and it does so by exploring metacognition in the motor domain. This thesis comprises four empirical studies. Study 1 examined the underlying structures in metacognitive domains, finding no evidence to support a distinction between internally or externally generated information. Study 2 focused on motor metacognition, comparing the monitoring of direct and indirect movement parameters. While both movement parameters can be equally well monitored, the absence of correlations within the same domain but across different monitored parameters highlights the role of non-domain features on metacognition. In a data-driven approach, Study 3 revealed how monitoring different aspects of movement is linked with motor control and metacognitive judgments. Study 4 tested whether metacognitive deficits underpin premonitory urges in Tourette's disorder. No evidence of metacognitive impairment was found in the tactile or visual domains, challenging metacognition's role in the disorder's pathophysiology. Overall, the thesis emphasises the need to disentangle domain-related and task-specific features, advocating for identifying factors that influence generality and specificity. It contributes to the understanding of motor metacognition by advancing experimental and analytical approaches, while providing insights into the architecture of higher cognitive functions and conscious processing.

Polyphibianism : evolving transdisciplinarity into an imaginary organism of living knowledge

Ljubec, Ziva January 2015 (has links)
Transdisciplinarity emerged from the urge to grasp the elusive knowledge in the most fertile zone in between and beyond disciplines that escapes even the most elaborate interdisciplinary operations. While interdisciplinary protocol enables experts to operate within foreign disciplines, in the extreme case as diverse as art and science (by inviting artists into scientific departments and vice versa), the production of knowledge remains confined to particular domains. To transcend these confinements and access the knowledge that evades institutionalisation Basarab Nicolescu’s Manifesto of Transdisciplinarity sets up conditions for an open structure to be grown outside the current compartmentalisation into a living knowledge. This thesis imagines a possible evolution of transdisciplinarity into knowledge to be lived internally rather than learnt externally in order to overcome the anxiety in transcending the established culture of disciplinary research. By entering the transdisciplinary zone, the identity of experts-specialists dissolves, even the crudest separation into artists and scientists becomes obsolete. From the illusion of losing control over knowledge arises the fear of a return to archaic, mystic or even shamanic ways of knowing. Far from proposing a return to shamanism in its ancient forms this thesis imagines the way of polyphibianism – an imaginary solution to navigate efficiently the protoplasmic state of knowledge that would be indigenous to culture of disciplinary researchers. With every significant discovery the disciplinary researchers already intuitively trespass into the very zone that the Manifesto of Transdisciplinarity invites them to enter intentionally. From examination of documented introspective inquiries into their act of discovery the thesis infers the necessary sensibilities and adaptabilities of the individuals to cross the borders of their disciplines. Their seemingly lost identity is temporarily restored with the term polyphibian (analogous to amphibian) designating their ability to survive and explore multiple environments. With each change of circumstances in research a polyphibian adapts by swiftly reinventing its instinctive instruments, mutating its organs of knowing, indifferently to conventional habits of thought. Through their introspective writings this thesis investigates the polyphibic aptitude of Henri Poincaré, Henri Bergson and Marcel Duchamp to scout at the periphery of physics, metaphysics and ‘pataphysics, to intuitively anticipate the role of chance, chaos and complexity in both arts and sciences. A threshold of complexity has to be surpassed in order to bring the current apparatus of knowledge to life. Bergson’s insight on laughter and dreams suggests how intellect could transcend itself. The thesis proposes to consider laughter as faculty that could induce self-awareness in the intellectual apparatus while dreams are considered to facilitate self-organisation of intellect on higher orders of awareness. In Deleuzian manner of mutating Bergson’s work into Bergsonism, polyphibianism is a mutation in transcribing the code of Creative Evolution where Bergson insisted on interdependency between the theory of knowledge and the theory of evolution. The scholarly dispute on Bergsonian and anti-Bergsonian tendencies present in Marcel Duchamp’s work is revisited in the thesis by interpreting the higher dimensional Bride as a polyphibic organism of living knowledge with access to higher orders of awareness, able to guide the Bachelor’s apparatus of mechanical production and preservation of knowledge out of its predicament. Informed by peculiar Duchampian experiments that challenged both the domain of art and science the research projects in this thesis consist of an intervention at CERN that tested the impenetrability of institutionalised art-science collaborations and installation of the Interval of Suspended Judgement with high mathematical precision at the threshold between physics and ‘pataphysics. With these projects the problems of categorising researchers into artists and scientists are revealed. As Deleuze suggested, to effectively formulate the problem, to realize it in multiplicity of contexts, a new concept must be invented, a new organism must be conceived. This thesis gave birth to an imaginary organism of living knowledge in order to relieve the unnecessary anxieties and to fully engage in transdisciplinary research.

Prostředí pro tvorbu interaktivních webových stránek / Interactive Web Page Design Environment

Moravec, Jaroslav January 2008 (has links)
This master's thesis describes an environment for creation and management of interactive web pages. It deals with both the structure design and the visual part. The basic idea is that the page consists of individual elements that can be arbitrarily composed together. There exist several kinds of such elements: interactive, content, database and informative elements. Furthermore, the environment includes tools for account management, access control, database administration, auditing, multilanguage support and some more.
