Com o advento da Web Colaborativa, as bibliotecas acadêmicas no mundo todo têm enfrentado o desafio de continuamente repensar a maneira como seus serviços vêm sendo disponibilizados de forma a atingir seus usuários, em especial a geração dos nativos digitais. Nesse contexto de dinamicidade tecnológica surgiu a biblioteca denominada 2.0, que passou a oferecer Serviços de Referência Virtual (SRV) disponibilizando em seus sites, dentre outros serviços, a possibilidade de se comunicar com o bibliotecário através de email e posteriormente chats (ou mensagem instantânea) em tempo real. Este estudo objetivou primeiramente apresentar e delinear as características de um software gratuito de videoconferência e chat que usa tecnologia VoiP utilizado para referência em bibliotecas norte-americanas. Encontrou-se que, embora esse software tenha sido implantando em várias bibliotecas universitárias norte-americanas, com o tempo, essas decidiram por descontinuar o seu uso. Portanto, o foco do estudo se ampliou para a análise dos software para os quais essas bibliotecas migraram e as características dos seus sistemas. Analisa-se também as iniciativas de bibliotecas de universidades brasileiras que implantaram o SRV por meio de chat, os software que estão utilizando atualmente e os fatores considerados por essas instituições no momento da decisão pela implantação do sistema. A permissão para a tradução para a língua portuguesa do guia de Boas Práticas, Políticas e Procedimentos do QuestionPoint 24/7 foi obtida a fim de complementar esse estudo e nortear as bibliotecas brasileiras desejosas de disponibilizar o SRV via chat. A metodologia de pesquisa consistiu em um aporte teórico realizado a partir da literatura produzida nacional e internacionalmente sobre o tema, bem como pesquisa exploratória e observações participantes nos sites de bibliotecas universitárias brasileiras e norte-americanas que disponibilizam o SRV via chat. Este estudo concluiu que o SRV via chat traz benefícios à comunidade e coloca a biblioteca em consonância com as demandas tecnológicas de informação e comunicação sendo apropriado à realidade de bibliotecas acadêmicas brasileiras. Ainda, descobriu que algumas bibliotecas norte-americanas estão fazendo o uso de um software para oferecer o que chamam de Serviço de Referência Proativo. / Since its development, the Internet, and the Web in it, has gained popularity and become core technology of information and communication, both in developed countries and emerging countries. With the advent of Collaborative Web, academic libraries worldwide have faced the challenge of continually rethink the way their services is being made available to achieve its patrons, especially the generation of digital natives. In this context of technological dynamism, Library 2.0 arose, offering Virtual Reference Service (VRS), making available on their websites, among other services, the possibility to communicate with the librarian via email and then chat (or Instant Message) in real time. This study aimed primarily to present and outline the features of a free chat and video chat software that uses VoIP technology used for reference in U.S. libraries. It was found that although this software had been used by several U.S. academic libraries, with time, these institutions decided to discontinue its use. Therefore, the focus of the study was extended to the analysis of the software for which those libraries migrated and the features of their systems. The study also analyses the initiatives of Brazilian academic libraries that have implemented the SRV via chat, the software they are currently using and the factors considered by these institutions when deciding the implementation. Permission to translate QuestionPoint 24/7 Best Practices, Policies and Procedures into Portuguese was obtained in order to complement this study and guide the Brazilian libraries wishing to provide the VRS chat. The research methodology consisted of a theoretical contribution from the literature produced nationally and internationally on the topic, as well as exploratory research and participant observations on the Brazilian and American university libraries which offer the SRV chat on their website. This study concluded that VRS via chat brings benefits to the community and puts the library in line with the technological demands of information and communication therefore it is appropriate to the reality of Brazilian academic libraries. In addition, the investigation found out that some American libraries are making use of software to offer what is being called Proactive Reference Service.

The search for ways to promote knowledge in cyberspace demands investigations of more intelligent representations. We face the need to reorganize the information in the digital space, which in turn requires a deeper look on the practices of design. Deepen the role for the designer as a creator of interfaces of cyberspace, this study recovers the important contribution made by the information design, field of study that investigates the understanding of information through visual representations. Considering cartography as a human need to achieve visual representations of complex systems of information, the visualization, in the context of this research, is regarded as a fundamental instrument to reveal hidden meanings, invisible in a observation restricted to data itself. Manovich links the concept of mapping to visualization. Since all digital data is represented with the same digital code, computers can easily map one representation to another. Then, visualization can be conceived as a kind of mapping, in which data is mapped to image. The main objective here is to investigate data visualization applications that meet the challenges imposed by the excess of information. To discuss the hypothesis that the data visualization is relevant to generate knowledge, this work examines models of interactive visualization of dynamic data from a sample of applications available on the Internet. With this overview of the types of visualization, a classification was created based on the need to understand the context and the symbolic relations of individuals on the Internet. Finally, some future directions of studying information, design and visualization are pointed out / Esta pesquisa debate os novos desafios impostos pelas tecnologias da informação a partir da seguinte questão: como lidar com o excesso de informações. A busca pelas formas de favorecer o conhecimento no ciberespaço demanda investigações sobre propostas mais inteligentes de representação dessas informações. Estamos diante da necessidade de reorganização da informação no espaço digital, que, por sua vez, requer um olhar mais aprofundado sobre as práticas do design. Para traçarmos o papel do designer como projetista das interfaces do ciberespaço, retomamos a relevante contribuição dada pelo design da informação, área de estudos que investiga a compreensão da informação por meio de representações visuais. Considerando a cartografia como a necessidade humana de realizar representações visuais de sistemas complexos de informação, a visualização se constitui, no contexto desta pesquisa, como instrumento fundamental para revelar sentidos ocultos, invisíveis numa observação restrita aos dados em si. Manovich coloca que o conceito de mapeamento também está intimamente relacionado à visualização, pois ao representar todos os dados usando o mesmo código numérico, os computadores facilitam o mapeamento de uma representação em outra. A visualização pode, então, ser concebida como um tipo de mapeamento, no qual o conjunto de dados é mapeado em uma imagem. O objetivo principal, portanto, é investigar aplicações que exploram a visualização de dados como proposta para enfrentar os desafios impostos pelo excesso de informações. Para investigar a hipótese de que a visualização de dados se constitui como manifestação relevante para a geração de conhecimento, este trabalho analisa propostas interativas de visualização de dados dinâmicos, a partir da coleta de uma amostragem significativa de aplicações disponíveis na Internet. Du är inte ensam : Hur en kommun kan använda sig av retorik och berättarteknik i informationsmarterial för att nå ut till barn och ungdomar i utsatta miljöer

In Sweden there are about 385,000 children and adolescents living with one or two parents who abuse alcohol. All over the country there is several organizations and operations that work to provide these children with a place where they can speak out, regain trust in adults and grow as people. But due to the fact that the target audience lives in an exposed situation, it is difficult to reach out with information about these operations to them. This has the operation “Huven” in Eskilstuna experienced. Therefore, they want a material that aims to reach the target audience in the best possible way and provide them with information that is easy to understand. There are few studies on how to write to reach children and adolescents in vulnerable environments, and even fewer studies on how to use rhetorical and narrative techniques to succeed. Therefore, this study aims at testing rhetorical and narrative techniques on the target audience to find out if it can and what could be used to create a material that can successfully reach the target audience. The result of this research shows that four storytechnical features in combination with pathos and its three emotional motives can be used in Huven's material to create an understanding of the operations of an exposed target group. The four narrative techniques that can be used are sociolectic, message, redundancy and unambiguous tendency, and the emotional motives are essence, subject and stimuli. / I Sverige finns det ungefär 385 000 barn och ungdomar som lever med en eller två föräldrar som missbrukar alkohol. Landet över finns det flera organisationer och verksamheter som jobbar med att förse dessa barn med en plats där de kan prata ut, återfå tilliten till vuxna och växa som människor. Men på grund av att målgruppen lever i en utsatt situation är det svårt att nå ut med information om dessa verksamheter till dem, vilket den kommunala verksamheten Huven i Eskilstuna har upplevt. Därför önskar de ett material som syftar till att nå ut till målgruppen på bästa sätt och förse dem med information som är lätt att ta till sig och förstå. Det finns få studier om hur man bör skriva för att nå ut till barn och ungdomar i utsatta miljöer, och om hur man kan använda retoriska och berättartekniska grepp för att lyckas med detta. Därför syftar denna studie till att testa retoriska och berättartekniska grepp för att ta reda på om och vilka som kan användas för att skapa ett material som på ett lyckat sätt kan nå ut till målgruppen. Resultatet i denna forskning visar att fyra berättartekniska grepp i kombination med pathos och dess tre känslotopiker kan användas i Huvens material för att skapa förståelse för verksamheten hos en utsatt målgrupp. De fyra berättartekniska greppen som kan användas är sociolekt, budskap, redundans och entydig tendens och känslotopikerna är essens, subjekt och stimuli.

Intranätets betydelse för användarna i ett landsting

<p>The aim with this independent degree project of master thesis is to find what the user opinions of the intranet in a county council is. The paper seeks how the question about how the culture in the organisation was affected by the use of the intranet. An important part is to explore the expectations and acceptance of the intranet and get a picture of which functions and services support day-to-day work with good quality. One goal is to find out how the intranet users feel that the communication, information and usability can be developed.</p><p>The focus group interview is a qualitative method that has been applied for gathering data from the respondents, who participate in the investigation from the county council. The used method is unstructured focus groups containing the three dominating categories of staff in the county council. Totally five focus groups have been interviewed.</p><p>In the result and the following analysis of data from the focus group interviews have a few main categories been chosen for the survey. One of the categories is the information- and communication flows in the intranet, which include how it works today and could be improved. Other parts in the analysis are usability, organisation culture and the potential for the intranet as a tool for the organisation.</p><p>A number of conclusions are drawn from the survey and the analysis. One conclusion is that the intranet is a well-accepted channel for information, but underestimated as a communication channel. Another conclusion is that the respondents considered that an intranet has to be fun, exciting, and contain interesting material; which will lead to that the intranet will be used more. The content has to be updated and suited for the needs of the organisation.</p>

This report is about the current outdoor environment in the housing area Brunnsbacken in the city of Eskilstuna. The report examines the various factors in the outdoor environment that can affect the physical and psychic well being of the elderly people through availability and inclusion. The research methods that are affected are qualitative and has been implemented in order to give insight and knowledge about the way elderly people view the outdoor stay in their neighborhood, but also through analysis produce an informed design suggestion. / Denna rapport handlar om dagens utomhusmiljö i bostadsområdet Brunnsbacken i Eskilstuna. I rapporten granskas de olika faktorer i utomhusmiljön som kan påverka äldres fysiska och psykiska välmående genom tillgänglighet och inkludering. De forskningsmetoder som berörs är kvalitativa och har använts i syfte att ge insikt och kunskap om de äldres syn på utomhusvistelsen i sin närmiljö, men också genom analys kunna ta fram ett välgrundat gestaltningsförslag.

Självständigt Flöde : En studie om självständig orienterbarhet på Björnkullas äldre- och demensboende / Independent Flow : A study on independent mobility at Björnkulla nursing home

The purpose of this study was to examine how the design of the wards, at Björnkulla nursing home, affects the residents’ wayfinding ability and autonomy. Thus, the aim has been to make a design proposal that, trough color and design can increase the residents’ chance to independent mobility. Since the study aimed to examine how the environment affect and can support people with dementia, qualitative methods were used. Observations of the two dementia wards were carried out as a starting point, and as a means to compare the different design of the two wards. The observations were complimented by two informant interviews, with people linked to the nursing home, the head of unite and the occupational therapist. The result show that staff, in most cases, guides the residents between the common room and the residents own apartments. In addition, the residents ask for help when they need to visit the toilet and often remain seated in the same place throughout the day, with the exception of those who exhibit wandering behavior. The results clearly state that people suffering from dementia are dependent on the spatial design in order to orient themselves independently. The results also show the benefit of an open floor plan with almost immediate visual access to main destinations. The major weakness, of the wards current design, concerns the ability of the residents to independently find their way from the common room back to their own apartment. Mainly because the doors do not distinguish themselves from each other. This would suggest that the most important design feature, for a person suffering from dementia, is transparency. In the meaning direct view of the destination. Complimented by clear and distinct landmarks. The design proposal therefore supports aiming as a wayfinding strategy. As a result it contains a color-coding system, that distinguish the residents doors, and additional landmarks that facilitate wayfinding from one decision point to the next, when the doors are not directly visible. Also included in the design proposal is a concept that can help minimize wandering. / Avsikten med studien har varit att undersöka hur utformningen av avdelningarna, på Björnkulla äldre- och demensboende, påverkar de boendes orienterbarhet och självständighet. Därmed har syftet varit att finna ett gestaltningsförslag som via färg och form kan ge de boende större möjligheter till självständig rörlighet. Eftersom studien syftar till att utreda hur miljön påverkar och kan stödja personer med demens, har kvalitativa metoder använts. Som utgångspunkt utfördes observationer på boendets två demensavdelningar, eftersom dessa skiljer sig åt i sin utformning. Observationerna lade grunden för informantintervjuer med två personer som är knutna till boendet; enhetschefen och arbetsterapeuten. Resultatet visar att personalen i de flesta fall följer med de boende mellan de gemensamma utrymmena och den egna lägenheten. Dessutom ber de boende om hjälp när de ska till toaletten och blir ofta sittande på ett och samma ställe i de gemensamma utrymmena. Undantaget är de personer som uppvisar vandringsbeteende. Resultaten påvisar tydligt att de dementa är beroende av miljöns utformning för att kunna orientera sig självständigt. De visar också styrkan i den öppna planlösningen och en nästan omedelbar visuell tillgången till avgörande platser. Bristerna, i de befintliga avdelningarnas utformning, finns framförallt när de boende ska ta sig tillbaka till de egna lägenheterna eftersom dörrarna inte särskiljer sig från varandra. Det talar för att de viktigaste aspekterna för att stödja en dement person att orientera sig och hitta självständigt på en avdelning, är visuell transparens och tydliga, distinkta landmärken. Gestaltningsförslaget stödjer på grund av detta wayfinding strategin aming. Det innehåller därför ett färgkodningssystem, som särskiljer de boendes dörrar. Färgkodningssystemet kompletteras också med ytterligare landmärken som kan stödja orientering från beslutspunkt till beslutspunkt, när dörrarna inte är direkt synliga. Dessutom ingår, i gestaltningsförslaget, ett koncept som kan hjälpa till att stimulera till mindre vandringsbeteende.

This is a thesis on information design with a focus on text design. The purpose of this study is to gather knowledge about how information on the Easy-to-Read website, of the police, should be composed so that immigrants more easily will be able to read and understand the content. The goal of the study is to present a design proposal based on the knowledge that has been found through principles for readability, theoretical perspectives and literature, together with methods; readability analysis and interviews. The interviews were performed individually with the coordinator at polisen.se as well as four students from SFI (Swedish for immigrants).   The study showed that the content on the website of the police is not adequately adapted to the needs of the target group. It also exhibited that the website's disposition is unclear, and that complicated terms are not explained. This makes the understandability worse for immigrants as their difficulties with reading mostly have to do with vocabulary, background knowledge and textual proficiency is culturally limited. / Detta är ett examensarbete i Informationsdesign med inriktning mot textdesign. Syftet med denna studie är att få kunskap om hur information på polisens lättlästa webbplats ska utformas för att nyanlända svenskar lättare ska kunna läsa och förstå innehållet. Målet med studien är att presentera ett gestaltningsförslag grundat på den kunskap som framkommit genom principer för lättläst, teoretiska perspektiv och litteratur, samt metoder; läsbarhetsanalys och intervjuer. Intervjuerna skedde individuellt och genomfördes med samordnaren på polisen.se samt fyra elever från sfi.   Det framgick i studien att innehållet, på polisens lättlästa webbplats, inte är anpassat efter målgruppens behov. Det framkom bland annat att webbplatsens disposition är otydlig, och att komplicerade begrepp inte förklaras. Detta försvårar förståelsen för nyanlända svenskar då deras lässvårigheter framförallt har att göra med att deras ordförråd, bakgrundskunskaper och textkompetens, är kulturellt begränsade.

Ett väntrum med identitet : En studie i hur väntrummet kan skapa en tydligare länk mellan besökare och myndighet

Målet med detta examensarbete har varit att studera Migrationsverkets väntrum vid Asylprövningsenheten i Flen och hur det används. Detta för att identifiera rummets brister och förbättringsmöjligheter. Syftet har vidare varit att ta fram ett gestaltningsförslag som skapar en tydligare identitet för rummet och som bidrar till en starkare länk mellan besökare och myndighet. Genom metoder, såsom observationer, platsanalys, notationer, intervjuer samt omvärldsanalys, har en ökad förståelse för väntrummet skapats och det har konstaterats att det finns en brist vad gäller rummets igenkänning och identitet. Med hjälp av litteratur och resultatet från metoderna har ett gestaltningsförslag sedan utvecklats. Detta förslag har en tydlig igenkänning vad gäller Migrationsverkets grafiska profil. Ytorna utnyttjas på ett effektivare vis än tidigare och fler funktioner finns nu i rummet. Examensarbetet är för avläggande i filosofie kandidatexamen i Informationsdesign med inriktning mot Rumslig gestaltning. / The aim of this thesis was to study the Swedish Migration Board’s waiting room at the Asylum Examination Unit in Flen and how it is used, in order to identify the room’s deficiencies and opportunities for improvement. The aim has also been to develop a design proposal that create a distinct identity for the room and that contribute to a stronger link between visitors and authority. A greater understanding of the waiting room has been created through methods such as observations, site analysis, notations, interviews and environmental analysis, and it has been observed that there is a lack in terms of the room’s recognition and identity. A design proposal has been developed with the help of literature and results from methods. This proposal is a clear recognition in terms of the Swedish Migration Board’s graphical profile. The area is used in a more effective manner and more features are now available in the room than before. The thesis work is for the Degree of Bachelor in Information Design, specializing in Spatial design.

"Men du ser ju inte ut att ha ont" : En studie om hur berättartekniska och retoriska grepp kan öka förståelsen hos unga anhöriga för hur det är att leva med fibromyalgi.

Unga personer som lider av den kroniska sjukdomen fibromyalgi upplever att jämnåriga anhöriga ofta har svårt att förstå vad sjukdomen innebär och hur den påverkar vardagen för den som har det. I detta examensarbete i Informationsdesign undersöks hur berättartekniska och retoriska grepp kan användas i text och bild för att öka förståelsen för hur det är att leva med fibromyalgi. Denna studie består av en teoretisk del och en praktisk del. I den teoretiska delen presenteras teorier kopplade till retorik, berättarteknik och multimodalitet samt tidigare forskning inom berättarteknik. Här används även tre metoder: kvalitativa intervjuer, enkätundersökning och användartest på målgruppen. Den teoretiska delen lägger grunden för den praktiska delen där ett gestaltningsförslag av ett informationsmaterial presenteras. Denna studie har genom teorier och metoder kommit fram till att vissa retoriska stilfigurer och troper samt berättartekniska grepp i text och bild bör vara effektiva för att informera om fibromyalgi så att unga anhöriga förstår. Dessa är främst metaforer, liknelser, anaforen, direkt anföring och en talspråklig stil som förstärker känslan av personlighet. Detta utesluter dock inte att det finns fler troper, figurer och grepp som kan fungera väl i detta syfte, men dessa har inte undersökts i denna studie. / Young people suffering from the chronic illness fibromyalgia experience that peers in their proximity have a hard time understanding what the illness means, feels, and how it affects the everyday life. This thesis in Information Design explores how the use of narrative and rhetorical devices in text and pictures can raise the understanding of life with fibromyalgia. This thesis consists of one theoretical and one practical part. The theoretical part addresses theories concerning rhetoric, narrative and multimodality. Three methods are used in this part: qualitative interviews, a survey, and a user experience test performed on the target audience. The theoretical part works as a foundation for the practical part in which a design proposal of an informative material is presented. This thesis has concluded that narrative and some rhetorical devices are effective when informing young people about living with fibromyalgia. These rhetorical devices are metaphors, similes, anaphora. First and second person perspective, and a colloquial writing style that emphasizes the personality in a text are also shown to be effective. This does not exclude the effectiveness of other tropes, figures and devices, but they have not been part of this study.

This is a study about art exhibitions and the flow of spatial movement within them. The thesis of this work is how to create an active and guiding flow of movement within a smaller exhibition space. Using the methods Timing and Tracking and Spatial Analysis, three different art exhibitions in smaller spaces are studied to see how the flow of spatial movement is created. Former studies about spatial movement and how form and space affect visitors’ behavior by Wineman and Peonies (2010) and Ching and Binggeli (2012) have been taken into account for this study.  The results of studying three exhibitions; Paper Art, Nya Målningar and Kemiska Undersökningar, show that the use of walls and furniture positively affects an active and guiding movement even within the limitations of smaller exhibition spaces.  Three different examples have been created to show how an active and guiding spatial movement within smaller spaces may be achieved. These examples also visuality represent the spatial movement within a smaller exhibition space. The examples are created in the form of floor-plans and coloured sketches to demonstrate how exhibition designers and artists could effectively use smaller spaces for art exhibitions.
