Bakom bra eller dåligt : En diskursanalytisk studie av digitalisering av samhället i Biblioteksbladet 2020 / Beyond good or bad : A discourse analysis about the digitalization of society in Biblioteksbladet 2020

Anderlid, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the usage of metaphors and language features used in the debate about the digitalization of Swedish society in a library context. The empiric material consists of 22 articles published in Biblioteksbladet from January 2020 – March 2021. The method of analyzing the material was based on Fairclough’s critical discourse analyze and Jenny Lindberg´s logics of a Catch-the-train-technological deterministic discourse (Tåget-Går-diskurs). The thesis findings showes that digitalization as phenomenon is used in a technical deterministic way in which six aspects were found valid: infrastructural, national competition oriented, user oriented, availability as access, availability as supply and a post-pandemic-oriented aspect.

Bevaring av spelkulturen : En undersökning av spelkulturen på Kungliga biblioteket

Karlsson, Carina January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to examine the National Library of Sweden's ability to preserve the gaming culture. It will also look at what the subjects gaming culture and cultural heritage means. The source materials of the essay are mainly previous research of cultural heritage and gaming culture, plus some texts fom the National Library of Sweden and other offical laws and text, which makes this essay mainly a litterature study with some description theory. Through my studies of these earlier texts, the questions that emerged for me are the following: - How is culture heritage defined according to the academic world and the cultural world? - How can gaming culture be defined as a concept and a cultural heritage? - What does the preservation of the gaming culture look like at the National Library of Sweden?  The results show that cultural heritage is a difficult to specify subject, much like culture itself. In the end no two persons specify it the same, but I myself fell for the Swedish National Heritage Board's definition: all material and immaterial expressions of humans. Gaming culture is also quite difficult to specify, since many people see it as different things. Something all seems to agree on is that includes all kinds of expressions from humans. Hence, it should be obvious that it is a part of the cultural heritage. The Nation Library of Sweden includes several departements. For the one I interviewed it is not quite possible for them to preserve the gaming culture because of various laws. They want to, but cannot. Other departments might be able to collect those parts instead. So they might be able to preserve a complete picture of the gaming culture. So, I propose that citizens step in and take over the responsibility for preserving the parts of the gaming culture that parts of the National Library simply cannot access at the moment. Maybe the citizens can collaborate with local archives, or even the National Library of Sweden, and the gaming culture will still find a place in the archives in the end.

UTRYMNINGSSÄKERHET I STATLIGA BYGGNADSMINNEN : För personer med funktionsnedsättning

Södergren, Gabriella, Lundin, Isabelle January 2016 (has links)
Background: Historical buildings in Sweden with the highest value of cultural heritage are administrated by the state and are protected by the directive SFS 2013:588. Also there are laws which demands that all public buildings which are administrated by the government should be accessible for everyone, with or without disabilities. This law also demands that in case of fire all visitors should be able to evacuate safely, including people with disabilities. This may be problematic to achieve without damaging the cultural value. Aim: The aim of this work is therefore to investigate a safe way for people with disabilities to evacuate in case of fire in buildings with high cultural value in Sweden, which are administrated by the state, with focus on the technical solutions. The aim is also to investigate improvement measures for the studied buildings and the laws in Sweden regarding the subject. Method: This work in bases on a literature study and a case study. The purpose of the literature study was to identify the previous studies and background information which was needed to find solutions to the problem. The case study were constructed to see how technical solutions are incorporated in actual buildings, but also to see how the evacuation can improve. Results: The work shows that all buildings in the case study has a sufficient evacuation plan for people with disabilities, but could be improved especially for people with visual disabilities without destroying the cultural heritage. Conclusion: One conclusion is that the focus often lies on technical solutions to make it possible for people with mobility impairments to evacuate, but the needs of people with visual disabilities are often overlooked. Therefore the laws regarding the subject should clarified that all people with disabilities also should have the same possibility to evacuate safety. Another conclusion is that it is possible to implement technical solutions in historical buildings without significantly destroying the cultural value. However, more research is required to develop new and improved solutions for these type of buildings.

En förbisedd skatt av svenskt kulturarv : Kulturarw³ och dess värde för forskningen / An Overlooked Treasure of Swedish Cultural Heritage : Kulturarw³ and its Value for Scientific Research

Skjöldebrand Lefevre, Caroline January 2023 (has links)
This master thesis has examined a user’s capabilities to utilize the Swedish national web archive Kulturarw³ for research purposes. The aim was also to identify any potential areas of improvement in the user’s capabilities working with Kulturarw³. The research questions are: 1. How does Kulturarw³ operate? 2. What are the main factors which affect Kulturarw³ structure and function? 3. What capabilities exist for researchers and students to utilize Kulturarw³ for their research? Are there any potential areas of improvement to the web archives user capabilities? The author has analyzed the web archive altogether using institutional theory in organization studies. The analysis has been loosely structured after Staffan Furusten’s model of the outside world in using institutional theory in organization studies. The purpose of this is to explain why the web archive looks the way it does today. An understanding of the web archive will better illuminate why any potential areas of improvement identified may or may not be possible for KW3 to implement. The author has conducted email interviews, in-person interviews as well as digital interviews with the staff responsible for working with Kulturarw³ at the Swedish National Library, Kungliga biblioteket. A draft of guidelines concerning Kulturarw³ from Kungliga biblioteket and a video-interview at Internetmuseum with one of the the founders of the web archive has also been used as source-material for this master thesis. The author concluded that Kulturarw³ is a national web archive with a long history. Its functions and limitations are complex. Kulturarw³s operation has changed greatly throughout its lifetime because of the surrounding environment. Several main factors which affect Kulturarw³ were identified. Several Swedish laws, international charters and initiatives, collaborations between and relations to other web archives, use of open-source software and digitalization’s impact on Kulturarw³ is discussed in detail. Kulturarw³'s long history of archiving the Swedish web makes it a valuable and plentiful source for research. Its collections and functions should be sufficient for anyone to conduct qualitative research. Yet at the current moment, the web archive is too inaccessible to live up to user’s expectations. That makes it an unviable option for research purposes. Unfortunately, there is not a lot Kulturarw³ can currently change to make it more assessable. The lack of information readily available also hinders users from using the web archive at max efficiency. There is a lot of opportunities for KB to better inform its users of its value and capabilities. An increased collaboration with Swedish research institutions would also benefit both researchers and the web archive in the long run.

Från gren till gren : Trädstrukturer och direktlänkar hos internetbokhandlar och i bibliotekssystem och hur dessa påverkar tillgängligheten av HBT-litteratur / From Branch to Branch : Tree Structures and Direct Links in Online Book Shops and Library Systems and How These Affect the Availability of LGBT Literature

Persson, Lina January 2012 (has links)
What this investigation has tried to find out is how easily availabie LGBT literature is in the systems that are used by private companies and the public sector - online book shops and library catalogues available online (OPACs). This entailed a number of more practical underlying factors regarding the design of the tree structure, what kind of language is used and how easy it is to understand, whether or not there are special categories for LGBT-related literature and whether or not there are direct links between literature with LGBT content. The systems investigated were the online book shops Amazon (both the American version and the British subsidiary), The Book Depository and Adlibris along with the classification systems used by the national libraries in the countries where these book shops reside (the US, the UK and Sweden): Library of Congress Classification (LC), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Klassifikationssystem för svenska bibliotek (SAB). Two of the library systems (LC and DDC) did not have a tree structure available for the customers to see and navigate through, while the third one (SAB) offered a structure with both the classification code and Swedish words explaining what the codes meant, even if the categories and subdivisions were not optimally constructed. None of them had very many links to other literature. Two of them (The Book Depository and Adlibris) did not have main categories specifically for LGBT content which both Amazon US and Amazon UK did. All the library systems could use a revision to ensure that literature, and particularly LGBT literature as that was the focal point of this investigation, is easily available. The Library of Congress and the British Library need to establish a tree structure their clients could use and all three need to make sure they have a category where LGBT literature is collected and available at the root. The online book shops on the other hand do not need to do much to improve the availability of their systems: like the library systems, Adlibris and The Book Shop need to create a category of LGBT literature in the tree structure but besides that the private companies pass with credit. The systems used by the Amazon branches proved to have the greatest availability of all the systems investigated.

Sorgens Separatism

Klein, Xenia January 2017 (has links)
