Ett livsviktigt arbete : En kvalitativ intervjustudie av biståndshandläggares perspektiv på suicidpreventivt arbete med äldre / A Matter of Life and Death : A Qualitative Interview Study of Care Managers’ Perspective on Suicide Prevention for the Elderly

Ahlgren, Pernilla, Drugge, Simon January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate and analyze how care managers experience working with suicide prevention with the elderly. The study explores identified potential factors of success and perceived obstacles in the care managers current manner of operations. Additionally, the interviewees have suggested various ways on how to improve their current working methods. The data was collected by interviewing ten care managers and later analyzed by means of thematic analysis and applying Antonovsky’s salutogenic approach to wellness. This theoretical framework suggests the importance of an individuals’ ‘sense of coherence’ (SOC) for handling the hardships of life. Antonovsky suggests that the receivers of care can get their SOC strengthened by a professional. The interviewees of this study report the importance of developing a working alliance between the care manager and the receiver of care. They also highlight a lack of knowledge and the need of further training. Additionally, the results suggest that professionals in the field of elderly care can, and should, cooperate interprofessionally to counteract the elderly care’s focus on physical health over the mental. Our findings also suggest that inclusion of professionals with hands-on experience could be helpful when developing new strategies or policies.

Att Störa Döden : Skolkuratorns roll i Suicidprevention

Kallin, Johanna, Wikner, Emelie January 2024 (has links)
The study explored school counselors' perceptions of suicide prevention work in secondary schools. The aim was to identify effective methods and challenges. Through qualitative interviews with six school counselors, it was found that relationship building, collaboration, and knowledge are crucial for effective suicide prevention. The respondents emphasized the importance of strong relationships with students and cooperation with school staff for early interventions. The biggest challenges were resource shortages, lack of knowledge, and parental involvement. Sense of Coherence was used as the theoretical framework to analyze how school counselors manage their work. The results showed that a high degree of comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness among the school counselors enhances their suicide prevention efforts. The study concluded with suggestions on how schools can improve their efforts by strengthening staff competence and increasing resources for student health services.

Conversations with survivors of suicide: old stories and new meanings

Mandim, Leanne 01 January 2001 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to provide descriptions of conversations with survivors of suicide, including their relationships with the persons who committed suicide, the relationships that followed these deaths, their experiences of suicide, and the way that they made sense of these deaths. The epistemological framework of this dissertation is ecosystemic and social constructionist. This study involved in-depth interviews with three suicide survivors, exploring personal and professional domains. Thematic analysis was the method used to generate patterns of meaning. The researcher recounted the research participants' stories and punctuated emergent themes and patterns according to what she deemed important. Each story was contextualised, and included reflections of the researcher. Themes both common and unique to each participant story were highlighted and discussed. The information yielded from this study could have value to survivors of suicide and psychotherapists whose clients commit suicide. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Juozapavičienė, Dalia 07 September 2010 (has links)
Darbe atlikta teorinė bendradarbiavimo kultūros ugdymo įstaigoje tarp socialinių pedagogų ir klasės auklėtojų analizė. Iškelta hipotezė, jog efektyviai pedagoginei pagalbai (savižudybių prevencijai) įgyvendinti trukdo nepakankamas socialinių pedagogų ir klasės auklėtojų bendradarbiavimas. Anketinės apklausos metodu buvo atliktas tyrimas, kurio tikslas - atskleisti socialinių pedagogų ir klasės auklėtojų bendradarbiavimo ypatumus. Atlikta statistinė duomenų analizė. Tyrime dalyvavo 263 pedagogai. 2. Socialiniai pedagogai bei klasės auklėtojai nepakankamai aktyviai bendradarbiauja dirbdami savo darbą bei mokosi iš savo patirties: sieja teorines ir praktines žinias, apmąsto vartojamus darbo metodus bei galimus alternatyvius problemų sprendimo variantus, domisi grįžtamąja informacija, iškilusius klausimus aptaria konsultuodamiesi ir bendradarbiaudami su kolegomis. 3. Atlikus tyrimą paaiškėjo, jog hipotezė efektyviai pedagoginei pagalbai (savižudybių prevencijai) įgyvendinti trukdo nepakankamas socialinių pedagogų ir klasės auklėtojų... Well-Being and Ethnic Identity Promotion for Aboriginal Youth: A Community Based Mixed Methods Study of Tribal Journeys

Smethurst, Tania 29 April 2013 (has links)
There are significant mental health disparities in Aboriginal communities in Canada as a result of historical assimilation policies (Health Canada, 2012). One approach to mitigating these mental health concerns is through prevention programs that include a wilderness component. Wilderness based programs for Aboriginal youth are informed by cultural wisdom and empirical research that connects immersion in nature with psychological well-being. The goal of this study was to collaborate with two community partners (Nala Winds canoe family from the Heiltsuk First Nation, and Victoria Native Friendship Centre) to develop an evaluation tool that will satisfy mainstream funding standards as well as community, cultural standards. This tool-kit was designed to reflect the youth experience and mental health consequences of Tribal Journeys, an annual canoe journey program for Coastal First Nations peoples. The findings were shared with community partners and may be helpful in facilitating the creation, maintenance, and evaluation of other Aboriginal youth programs. / Graduate / 0620 / 0347 / 0621 / tansmethurst@gmail.com

Vilka har allvarligt övervägt självmord i Umeå? : - suicidtankar relaterat till livsomständigheter / Who has seriously considered suicide in Umeå? : - suicidal ideation related to living circumstances

Laine Stenberg, Victor, Norberg, Kevin January 2021 (has links)
This is an in-depth study based on a quantitative public health survey which raised cause for concern about sociodemographic differences in occurrence of who has seriously considered suicide in the municipality of Umeå. Following the premise built on the current suicide prevention work in Umeå this study aims to give insight on which living circumstances differ regarding those with suicidal ideation in Umeå compared to the general population and what proposed actions might be indicated from the results.   The data used in this study was originally sampled by Övergripande planering, Umeå municipality using a stratified selection of different demographics in Umeå resulting in 2588 participants, an answer rate of 37% who answered a public health survey consisting of 102 questions, which was quality checked by SCB.   By process of elimination finding relevant living circumstances the authors designed a method of selection resulting in 15 variables consistent with the subtypes: demographics, economical circumstances, habits, health and support, all of which to correlate with the question translated to: “Have you seriously considered suicide?” where 10,7% of respondents answered positively.   Conclusions from this study are that certain life circumstances such as socioeconomic factors, habits, demographic factors, well-being and support is indicated being related to a higher prevalence of having seriously considered suicide amongst habitants of Umeå. Key findings include full-time employed was 22,9% less likely-, where students were more than two times more likely- and people on welfare or sick leave were 444,9% more likely to have seriously considered suicide. Respondents are less likely to have a good nights sleep (42,9% compared to 70,7%) if they have seriously considered suicide. 77,4% of those with anxiety-related issues, 43,0% of those in need of medical care for psychological health and 56,4% of respondents with psychological disability responds to have seriously considered suicide compared to the average of 10,7%. The authors provide examples of local implementations based on the findings but arrive at the need for a national scope to come to terms with the wider socio-economic and social issues that is suggested by the premise and result of this study.

Identifiering av arbetssätt utifrån samhällsaktörers perspektiv, gällande hälsofrämjande arbete riktat mot psykisk hälsa och suicidprevention hos ungdomar : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / Identification of working methods based on the perspective of community workers, regarding health promotion aimed for mental health and suicide prevention for adolescents : A qualitative interview study

Larsson, Pernilla, Thunell, Sara January 2023 (has links)
Introduction: Mental illness has increased significantly in recent years among adolescents in Sweden thus also the consequences of mental illness according to research. Girls are more affected by mental illness while boys are more likely to commit suicide. The reason for this increase is complex, but there are still large gaps in knowledge about why it looks this way. Few studies confirm or describe work methods and approaches and effects of community workers health promotion and prevention work. Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate how selected community workers within a region in southern Sweden work to promote mental health and suicide prevention for adolescents. Following questions were used: How do the community workers reach adolescents? Which approach do the community workers use to promote mental health and suicide prevention to adolescents? Does the method between promoting mental health and suicide prevention differ between boys and girls? Method: Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted, which were analysed based on content analysis with an inductive approach. Result: Five categories emerged: Education increases the competence of community workers, Work methods that strengthen adolescents mental health, Health-promoting efforts for mental health and suicide prevention, Challenges in the work to strengthen adolescents mental health and Goals with health-promoting and suicide-preventive work. Conclusion: Community workers common goal was to empowering adolescents to seek help themselves when needed. A salutogenic focus was present as well as different approaches to reach the goal of empowering adolescents.
