This paper deals with the writing of History in two digital games based on the theme of the French Revolution. The artifacts analyzed were Tríade: liberty, equality and fraternity and Assassin's Creed Unity. The first, produced by the University of the State of Bahia (UNEB) in the context of a public call for government funding of digital games with educational destinations. The second, developed by one of the world’s greatest creator studios of digital games. The aim of the research focused on the analysis of the concepts of time and History presented in both products, so that it may contribute to teachers who wish to use them as a teaching-learning resource in the teaching of History. To conduct the survey, it was necessary to play them under a closer look at the images, the soundscape and interactive narrative, characteristics of this type of digital device. The research results suggest that there are similarities in the concepts of History in the two games, as both have a certain attachment to a kind of History of great men and great events. However, in a positive way, the educational game has a female character as the protagonist of the narrative, unlike the commercial in which is essentially male. On the other hand, the game produced by the large studio, has a complex design of time, presenting to the player multiple simultaneous time frames, but the educational game has a predominantly linear conception of historical time. It is essential, therefore, when using as a didactic-pedagogic resource in teaching History, teacher intervention to remedy the limitations of these devices, so that students build historical knowledge.

Sylvie Germain : l'écriture de l'attente / Sylvie Germain : The Writing of WaitingVeche, Bogdan 16 December 2011 (has links)
The present study aims to analyze Sylvie Germain’s works of fiction through the concept of ‘waiting’. Our interest was aroused by the internal articulation of her first novels. Its dependence on a proleptic network is symptomatic not only of the establishment of a pact that constantly confronts the reader with new expectations, but also of the author’s effort – conscious or not – to keep a good grip on the story. Despite the fact that the writer does not develop a theory around the notion of ‘waiting’ or make it the core of her writing, contexts built around it are plentiful in the narrative. The title of the dissertation anticipates our double perspective on Sylvie Germain’s novels, i.e.textual and diegetic. The whole is organized around a ternary structure. The first part focuses on establishing a poetics of waiting based on an abundance of pre-texts, on the highly dense paratextual apparatus, as well as on the use of anticipation by an infusion of details, which creates an echo effect against the diegesis. The second part of our analysis questions the multiple manners in which the characters live in waiting, psychologically as well as physiologically. Whatever its form, waiting remains atemporal experience. The last part offers a panorama of the time perceptions it engenders. Upon reaching the end of our research, we hope to have offered a synthesis around a concept that constantly escapes the rules, as well as to have approached time related aspects rarely discussed so far in relation to Sylvie Germain’s fiction.

[en] THE DAY PAST EMERGED AT THE HORIZON OF THE COUNTRY OF THE FUTURE: POSTCOLONIAL TIMES AND SPACES IN RIO DE JANEIRO S PORT / [pt] O DIA EM QUE O PASSADO SURGIU NO HORIZONTE DO PAÍS DO FUTURO: TEMPOS E ESPAÇOS PÓS-COLONIAIS NO PORTO DO RIO DE JANEIROLUCIANA TEIXEIRA MARTINEZ 30 January 2019 (has links)
[en] Through the image of House of Portugal (a copy of Portuguese sailing ships used during colonial navigations) anchored in front of Porto Maravilha, during 2016 Olympic Games, this thesis intends to reflect upon the ways colonial violence is thought of, embraced and ignored temporally and spatially by Brazilian contemporary society. For such, this research departs from this specific image to a broader analysis of Porto Maravilha project, focusing on spaces built and/or renewed for the Olympics and walking tours taken around the port zone. The thesis works with the contrast of a disciplinary conception of space (Porto Maravilha) and the idea of space-palimpsest, represented by the port zone itself and where different histories overlap, find points of connection and continuities and also break into each other. The hypothesis to be investigated is that the condition of possibility to think about a future of progress, in the context of Porto Maravilha, would be the notion of reconciliation between Rio de Janeiro and its violent past, and therefore the reestablishment of a supposed harmony seen as proper to the city and to Brazilians in general. Such narrative, in turn, directly entails the notion that what founds Brazil is a harmonic colonial encounter between different races and cultures.

This work has been lead in the frame of the ITIPY project which goal was to automatically extract itineraries from travel novels from the XIX th century and from the beginning of the XX th. Our thesis work is close to the text understanding task in the information retrieval field and we aim at building a representation of meaning of linguistic utterances, leaning on the compositionnality principle. More precisely, the itinerary extraction supposes to temporally represent displacement and localization events or states (that we actually call eventualities) of a traveler as far as we understand it through discourse. Working on an automatic parser for syntax (in categorial grammars) and semantics (in λ-DRT), we focused on the building of an semantic lexicon for tense in French. We actually characterized our corpora as a sample of French language, by the means of a quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as a study of the internal structure of this genre. The main contribution of this work deals with tense and aspect semantic processing of the event expressed by tensed verbs, and with its modelling. In this respect, we propose an adaptation and an extension for French from XIX th century to nowadays of a lexicon originally produced to deal with English verbs. This formalisation is operational, for it is defined in λ-calculus which composition and réduction, already implemented, calculate automatically semantics représentations, high order logic formulas. Transition from a single event uterrance to a whole discourse which contains a complex referential network is discussed and allows us to define the limits of this hereby work.

Discovering the lost race story : writing science fiction, writing temporalityHall, Karen Peta January 2008 (has links)
Genres are constituted, implicitly and explicitly, through their construction of the past. Genres continually reconstitute themselves, as authors, producers and, most importantly, readers situate texts in relation to one another; each text implies a reader who will locate the text on a spectrum of previously developed generic characteristics. Though science fiction appears to be a genre concerned with the future, I argue that the persistent presence of lost race stories where the contemporary world and groups of people thought to exist only in the past intersect in science fiction demonstrates that the past is crucial in the operation of the genre. By tracing the origins and evolution of the lost race story from late nineteenth-century novels through the early twentieth-century American pulp science fiction magazines to novel-length narratives, and narrative series, at the end of the twentieth century, this thesis shows how the consistent presence, and varied uses, of lost race stories in science fiction complicates previous critical narratives of the history and definitions of science fiction.

The aim of the present study is to analyze the conception of time in six books of poems by José Hierro (1922-2002): Tierra sin nosotros (1947), Alegría (1947), Con las piedras, con el viento… (1950), Quinta del 42 (1952), Cuanto sé de mí (1957) and Libro de las alucinaciones (1964). It is suggested that the theme of time in Hierro´s poetry can be approached from three different points of view: existence, essence and consciousness. Furthermore, these three different perspectives are reflected in a chronological division of Hierro´s books of poems into three periods: existential poetry, intimist poetry and hallucinatory poetry. In order to develop and reinforce the thematic study, on the one hand, a comparative study is carried out that focuses on the relationship between poetry and philosophy, and, on the other, the thematic configuration on the surface level is considered. The methodological foundations that make it possible to achieve this objective are provided by Jean-Pierre Richard´s thematic criticism, Edmund Husserl´s phenomenology and Paul Ricoeur´s phenomenological hermeneutics. The dissertation concludes that Tierra sin nosotros and Alegría represent Hierro´s existential poetry, written during the post-war period and the reigning atmosphere of existentialism. Alegría, Con las piedras, con el viento… and Quinta del 42 constitute his intimist poetry. The second book, Alegría, is described as a “bridging book” between the first two periods. When the immediacy of the Civil War begins to fade, the literary scene shifts towards the more intimate theme of knowledge, and in Hierro´s poetry especially the phenomenon of time. In Quinta del 42, Cuanto sé de mí and Libro de las alucinaciones the reader encounters Hierro´s hallucinatory poetry. Quinta del 42 is another example of a “bridging book” between two periods. His hallucinatory poems transmit an extreme form of the search for inner truth which entails the deconstruction of time and space.

Ghiste, Natacha 01 1900 (has links)
Users are frequently facing transitory spaces, such as station corridors, that are often constrained temporally and spatially, while they could be better adapted to their use. To check this hypothesis, we observe the adequacy between the offer (the space arrangement) and the demand (the real uses) in the context of the Belgian Brussels South Station. We have collected spatial, temporal and behavioral clues that conducted us to characterise conditions of use. Moreover, by the mean of direct observations, we understood the uses as they are really practised. Aiming to illustrate the relation between users and space-time, we have developed a typology of the usages that exhibits possible interaction patterns between these two variables. As a conclusion of our results, we draw up a model named “interrelations triangle” that allow professionals to better understand the incidence of their space arrangements.

The source/matter for Le Cycle des astres stems from a
stenography of the present, snapshots of daily-life that leave
trace through diversified forms of writing that I called
écriture-temps. The inscription of the present becoming signs
from the past represent the double temporality of the texts
used as material used in my creative work where drafts,
poetry and autography co-occur, and leave trace of a writing
project in which the construction of Meaning unfolds through
the process.
I studied the recycling of archives and the interplay of
temporalities, but mostly the construction of the narrative put
forward by the text, and its effect on subjectivity. Du
surgissement à l’oeuvre furthers this exploration of fragmentary
and heteregeneous writing through a critical reading of
Annie Ernaux's L’Événement. Writing is shown here as a
means by which the essence of a subjective experience is
embodied in a text that reestablishes its coherence.
