"Strong like a woman" : En kritisk diskursanalys av Netflix kategori "Serier med en stark kvinnlig huvudkaraktär" utifrån ett feministiskt medieteoretiskt ramverk

Hellman, Tilda January 2018 (has links)

DO ‘THEY’ DESERVE TO – BE SLAVES? : A case study on media presentation of benefit cheat and labor right violation in Sweden / Förtjänar de att vara slavar?

Khash-Erdene Battogtokh, Khash-Erdene January 2019 (has links)
This paper analyses text on Swedish trade union newspaper Arbetet about taking advantage of immigrants of home service corporation Enklare Vardag. The theoretical framework consists of theories about critical discourse analysis. The analysis is done by employing Norman Fairclough's CDA model, combined with other tools of critical linguistics. The aim is to detect how the idea of ‘othering' and common sense on power relations between employees and employers marries and divorces with each other in this context on benefit cheat. And to define how the signifier and signified work together in the constructed subject position of the cheater in citizens and media representation. To identify that, interviews of different groups of wardship workers speculations towards the article are included. Aside from a "cheater", understanding of common - sense ground in society and media within the field of immigration, labor´s right incorporate the analysis purpose. The chosen article is analyzed from contradicting perspectives of benefit cheat discourse that often supports with right-wing media and criticizes welfare state and on the other hand criticism towards power relation between capitalistic oppression of the working class.

Det föränderliga Sovjetunionen

Mölleby, Oskar January 2009 (has links)

The objective of this essay has been to show how the image of the Soviet Union in “Alla tiders historia” differs in the 1989 and 2004 editions of the book. To explain these differences I have used a discourse analytic perspective, mainly inspired by Michel Foucault and his philosophical theories of the constructions of objects, and also Faircloughs critical discourse analysis inspired by Gramsci.

In this paper the two editions of “Alla tiders historia” are presented with quotes which are then analysed from using my theoretical framework. In the 1989 edition three themes emerged: continuity, undecidability and ambivalence, which together present an image of a Soviet Union which is not clearly defined within the political discourse.

In the 2004 edition this struggle over the discourse has been settled and the Soviet Union’s position as a dictatorship has been determined, at the same time as the Soviet Union is put in a negative relationship with Czar Russia and is connected with Nazi Germany. The hypothesis which this essay presume, that these differences reflect a greater discoursive shift on a social level has taken place since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 is in a sense confirmed.

Zjajo, Mirza January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this master's thesis is to examine how a Swedish public library's collection of books on African history looks like, who the writers are and how Africa and its history areportrayed. The focus of the analysis is on the front and back covers and in some cases on theinformation texts inside the books. The chosen library is the city library of Umeå. The 15books examined were found on the shelf classified as Kp – the classification for African history according to the Swedish SAB-classification system. The analysis is based on discourse analysis and on Norman Fairlough's critical discourse analysis in particular. Edward Said's postcolonial theories are also used. The results show that the majority of the writers are Western European or North American men, active as historians or journalists. There are veryfew female writers or writers of African heritage. The views on Africa and its history are generally positive when it comes to the pre-colonial history of the continent, while the history of the colonial era or contemporary history tends to be viewed upon negatively.

Curatorns ordning : En diskursanalys av curatorns yrkesroll utifrån 15 curatorutbildningar

Larsson, Camilla January 2012 (has links)
This study departs from the observation that since the late 1980´s educational programmes for curators have been established and since then expanded greatly. The programmes are part of a process of institutionalization and professionalization of the role of the curator within the international contemporary art field where the role as such has gained much power. Even though many statements have been made about this relatively new phenomenon of curatorial studies, there is a lack of sufficient research. The intention of this study is therefore to examine the educational programmes as such. The selection of 15 programmes has been made with the purpose to include early as well as newly established and to cover a wide geographic area. The starting point has been to ask what kind of knowledge and role of the curator the programmes are given prominence to. Using Michel Foucault´s and Norman Fairclough´s theory and methods on discourses I examine the programmes as a discursive practice. The analysis shows that there is a strong coherence within the field of the programmes and certain ideals, conventions and procedures are shared among them. The programmes are highly dependent on the professional field of curators – individuals as well as institutions are frequently being invited to lecture and support the students. The application procedures make sure that students who are willing to adopt to given ideals and norms, are being accepted. Furthermore the ideal role of the curator has been defined with the following concepts – new institutionalism, an expanded working field and discursive curating. The curator is highlighted as creative, critical and independent. These concepts have been singled out and made explicitly unique for the role of the curator by the programmes although aspects have clearly been taken from the role of the artist and the critics. The result has been a stronger competition between these positions. The programmes are institutions that promote the curator as an important and irreplaceable agent and to claim even a stronger position new assets have been singled out in the form of a theoretical and academic capital. Educational programmes included in the study: École du Magasin, Grenoble, Whitney Independent Study Program, New York, Curating Contemporary Art, Art Royal College of Art, London, De Appel Curatorial Programme, Amsterdam, Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, MFA Curating, Goldsmiths, London, CuratorLab - Curatorial Program for Professionals in Arts, Crafts and Design, Konstfack, Stockholm, Curating Art - International Master Programme in Curating Art, including Management and Law, Stockholm university, Curatorial practice, California College of the Arts, San Francisco, Post-graduate Programme in Curating, Zürich University of the Arts, PhD-programme Curatorial/Knowledge, Goldsmiths, London, Cultures of the Curatorial, Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, CuMMA - Curating, Managing and Mediating Art, Aalto University, Helsinki, PhD-programme Curating, Zürich University of the Arts in collaboration with the university of Reading, Praxis Master’s Programme, Finnish Art Academy, Helsinki.

"Jag tycker det är en snäll typ av marknadsföring" : - En kritisk diskursanalys om content marketing i podcasts. / "I think it's a gentle kind of marketing" : - A critical discourse analysis of Content Marketing in podcasts.

Ådell, Agnes, Bygdemark, Carina January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate in what way content marketing can be understood through podcasts as an alternative marketing tool. The material which the study was based on is Ölpodden, a podcast initiated by Carlsberg Sweden. The study intended to shed light on the interdiscursivity that emerges when brands are communicated through podcasts. Another aim was to understand how relationships and identities are constructed through the podcast by examining its intended audience. In order to achieve this a critical discourse analysis was used as both underlining theory and comprehensive method. The critical discourse analysis was also supplemented with two theorists witch highlights the audience’s construction of identity. The consumer's thoughts on Ölpodden was of importance to illustrate the convergence culture and the consumption of the podcast. Qualitative interviews were therefore used as a supplement to the critical discourse analysis. The purpose for the study was to contribute to an increased understanding of content marketing and a deeper knowledge of the communicative strategies it is based on. This purpose led to two main research questions containing two subquestions each. The first main question and subqueries were to answer on: How the discourse in Ölpodden could be understood and problematized in relation to convergence, commercialization and consumption culture, which the intended audience are and how groups and identities are created through the discourse. The other main question and subqueries were to answer on: How the discourse could be understood and problematized from a user perspective, in what way the discourse has impact on the listeners subjectivity and objectivity and how the recipients statements answers to a convergence culture. The result of the study indicates that the interdiscursivity in Ölpodden contains an entertainment discourse, a information discourse and a promotional discourse. Through these discourses the podcast aims to give beer a higher status in society. The podcast also creates an identity which the listener is expected to want to fit into. In the quest to fit into this identity individual's consumption patterns can change. Which ultimately would lead to increased gain for large concerns such as Carlsberg.

Kanni, Ali January 2017 (has links)
The present study deals with the institution in which many children spend a large part of their daily lives and thus their childhood. In preschool, the child is at the center of schooling and a part of a scheme with specific requirements, expectations and hopes. The aim is to highlight how children are referred to and created as subjects when their behavior challenges or puzzles staff at preschool as a discursive practice. The understanding that form the basis of this study is preschool staff’s experiences from professional practice and the difficulties that may exist when dealing with children that are challenging. Through interviews with 4 pedagogues and after elucidating different discourses when it comes to children that are challenging on the ground that they relate to how pedagogues talks about children in different context. I´ve noticed four different discourses, children that upsets the natural order, children and situations of transition, children that puzzles and children and early interventions. The result of the present study insinuated that it seems to be a discrepancy between the discourses about children that are challenging and the governing that control action and thinking in practice. For this a discourse analytic perspective with focus on power, mainly inspired by Michel Foucault has been used and Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis inspired by Gramsci and his use of hegemony.
