Substance and participation : aspects of the Trinity from Aristotle to Derrida

Norman, Mark 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis provides an historical and intellectual summary of the role of the concepts of 'substance,' and 'participation,' in the making of the doctrine of the Trinity. In the concluding chapter, a study is made of the assumptions of deconstruction, which are somewhat hostile to a substance paradigm. We argue for an appreciation of the importance of both substance and participation for the Trinity, and philosophy generally. Chapters are dedicated to individuals who have in some way contributed to perceptions of these two terms, as they pertain to the Christian notion of the Trinity. Additionally, we seek to define some philosophical problems that accompany a Trinitarian metaphysics of 'substance,' and 'participation.' The problems include those of deconstruction: issues such as 'Logocentrism,' and 'Presence.' Finally, we investigate how Trinitarian ontology can provide answers to many of the questions Derrida raises conceming the problematic future of metaphysical thinking. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / M.Th.

Laporte-Rainville, Luc 12 1900 (has links)
This dissertation, juxtaposing modernity and postmodernity to Pierre Perrault’s documentary movies, will define what we understand from those philosophic concepts. Influenced with Les Lumières, modernists have always considered necessary to put forward scientific technology progress to reach universal beatitude. For them, science is the key to society’s salute and rationalism. The problem with this process is that all thinking dissociating from rationality brings its immediate annihilation by progress and “over-progress” domination. Far from us to say that modernity needs to be forbidden but maybe it would be time to call into question some of these concepts. Popularized by Jean-François Lyotard, postmodernity criticizes the exaggerated science domination into trying to understand our world and wants to find solutions to counter the problem. Yet, there are other ways to apprehend this world of ours, like myths and believes. These irrational stories often reveal important moral, ecologic or spiritual values. The works of Perrault abound with community stories to refer to and we have chosen two pictures that are obvious examples. Le goût de la farine (1977) and Le pays de la terre sans arbre ou le Mouchouânipi (1980) present Innus’ traditions opposed to progress dictatorship. This same opposition allows the movie director to create a critical thinking about this modernity (in brief, a postmodernist thinking).

Mapangou, Dacharly 04 December 2012 (has links)
This study answers the following title: Romantic fiction of postmodernity and its mazes. The example of the texts of Alain Robbe-Grillet (France, 1922-2008), of Juan José Saer (Argentina, 1937-2005) and of Boubacar Boris Diop (Senegal, 1947-). It intends to identify, under authority methodological of poetic text the various modalities by which the pattern of the labyrinth becomes established as privileged substrate of the poetic narrative in three writers belonging to different linguistic and cultural areas. The choice and examination of the texts of these three writers rest on the will to show the deployment of this pattern in the internal organization of the postmodern romantic fiction. Indeed, integrated in the internal dynamic of writing in a very diversified way, the pattern of the maze appears in all the problems which cross the romantic writing. For methodological convenience and scientific rigour, this study deploys according to three complementary axes. While the first is entitled "The labyrinth as obsessive invariant of the romantic fiction of postmodernity" sets out to bring out the different aspects in which this pattern unfolds in dynamic textual postmodern fictional narrative, the second which is entitled "The labyrinth as constitutive modality of the narrativity of the story : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of discontinuity", gets down to examine how this pattern is part of a writing project that claims the discontinuity principle as narrative, and the third which is entitled "The labyrinth as a characteristic modality of interdiscursivity and intergenericity textual dynamic : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of polyphony" undertakes to show how this pattern is constitutive of polyphony which governs the dynamic of textual postmodern fictional narrative.

De pré-textes en prétextes : Le cinéma d'Arturo Ripstein / From pre-texts to pretexts : The cinema of Arturo Ripstein

Fortin, Maria 12 November 2015 (has links)
This research explores Arturo Ripstein's cinema, and focuses more particularly on a corpus of films which are all based on pre-existent works. The notion of "pre-text" refers to the latter, whose originsare in most cases leterary, but also cinematographic. The analysis of Ripstein's reworking saims at highlighting the pretext hiding behind the use of the pre-text. In other words, for each of the eight selected movies, we try to reveal the message the artist wished to convey, or the underlying intention of the creative act. The local/global dialectic is present throughout the whole thesis. It is first visible in its structure, given that our work takes as its starting point Mexican pre-texts, then examines Third World productions, and finally the pre-texts originating in European culture. But this dialectic is also illustrated, in the different parts of our work, through the phenomena of intertextuality or interfilmicity, and the strategies of production give Ripstein's cinema a transnational dimension.

Empresa, sociedade e comunicação: debates e tendências na transição pós-moderna / Business, Society and Communication: debates and trends in the context of postmodern transition.

Gioielli, Rafael Luis Pompeia 30 March 2012 (has links)
As the century XXI progresses, contemporary society gradually pass through important socio-cultural transformations which farther them from the context of modern-industrial society. Among other consequences of the postmodern transition, the relationship between business, society and communication transforms itself. One dimension of this phenomenon is the emergence of a specific model of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), named in this research as the interactive-dynamic model of CSR. Based on a political approach, this model provides a permanent process of negotiation through which mutual responsibilities between business and society are defined in a dynamic way. At the same time, the spread of new communication technologies and networks enables the emergence of an informal system of control over the corporations that operate in the public media sphere by political mobilization of civil society. This emerging system we named as extrainstitucional corporate governance. Regarding these two emerging processes, practice of corporate communication faces challenges that point to the limits of its original functionalist paradigm. Because of this, the author suggests the need of a new paradigm for the corporate communication capable of recognize itself no longer as a management tool, but as a social process of meaning construction. In order to identify whether and how the context of socio-cultural transition is understood by the market and what is its possible impact on business communication practices, a survey was conducted and data was collected in eleven in-depth interviews with communication chief officers of major companies operating in Brazil. The aim of thus survey was to synthesize a grounded theory capable of dealing with the conceptual propositions described above. The conclusions of this work seek to compare empirical and theoretical findings, analyzing challenges and contributions of corporate communication in the new context of the business-society relationship.

Politiques et idéaux éducatifs de l’Ecole québécoise et française (1963-2004) : Evolutions et enjeux des discours relatifs aux valeurs et aux finalités de l’éducation scolaire du rapport Parent au rapport Thélot / Quebec and French School’s educational policies and ideals (1963-2004) : Evolutions and stakes of the speeches regarding school values and ends from the Parent’s report to the Thélot’s report

Giol, Franck 25 October 2013 (has links)
Changes affecting occidental societies’ scholar education since de Second World War can be interpreted as modernity disintegration, itself read by several authors as a postmodernity highest expression. In that respect, changes inevitably affect educational ideals, and particularly contemporary School values and ends.In front of the end of emancipation by knowledge speech, perpetual change and general uncertainness which characterize our times, the contemporary philosophical thought has to understand which are, and can be, re-compositions of the educational ideals in our complex and uncertain world. However, if postmodernity can be considered as the result of a double process of scholar values disintegration and secularization, it stays a differently received notion in Europe and North America. In a central position on Anglo-Saxon’s educational questions, and to a lesser extent in Quebec, it stays quite understated in France. Philosophical and historical thought about stakes and involvements of postmodernity regarding educational ideals have to consider this difference which is necessarily meaningful. So, this thesis will not develop a purely comparative interpretation of postmodernity, but will draw attention to questions involved by postmodernity on historical, philosophical and politico-educational ways, based on Quebec and French public reports published from the 1960’s to the middle of the 2000’s.

Vizzotto, Andrea Teichmann January 2018 (has links)
Contemporary society is in transition. The modern, cartesian and positivist world, gives way to postmodern conduct, in which liquidity and ephemerality stand out. Capital molds to this transformation, maintaining the symbiotic relationship with public institutions and influencing state decisions. In urban space, this transformation translates into conflict and inequality of access to land, infrastructure and public services. This situation is exacerbated by the lack of effectiveness and the inefficiency of the State. The goal of this work is to investigate the role of the Brazilian State, Law and Justice, influenced by capital, towards to the just city, in postmodern society. Through the examination of the Brazilian legal system, which presupposes equality, justice, social solidarity and popular participation as expressed in the constitutional principles, it is sought to verify the evolution and effectiveness of the administrative procedure for the recovery of urban surplus value. In this regard, it is used the process of implantation, execution and expansion of the Shopping Center Iguatemi, in the city of Porto Alegre, analyzing the materiality of the fair distribution of the onus and benefits emerging from the process of urbanization, as one of the means to reach of the just city.
