Development of an environmental reporting framework for the industrial sector in Tanzania

The purpose of this study was to develop an environmental reporting framework for the Tanzanian industrial sector. To achieve the purpose, the study started by developing a disclosure index, which was used to measure the current extent of environmental reporting in Tanzania. There were two phases in the process of developing the environmental disclosure index (EDI) for the Tanzanian industrial sector. The first phase involved identifying and refining the items for disclosure from the literature. In particular the studies on environmental reporting/disclosure were reviewed and the items to be included in the initial disclosure index were identified. The second phase involved the development of the final disclosure index using the Delphi inquiry method. In the Delphi inquiry, knowledgeable experts in environmental issues were consulted and asked for their opinion on the items proposed, whether the item should be retained, removed or any addition of new item. Therefore, the role of the experts was, first to confirm and validate items to be included in the EDI, and second, to assess the importance of the disclosure of each item by allocating weight to every item. The extent of environmental reporting in Tanzania was measured by using the EDI developed. The annual and environmental reports from various organisations operating in Tanzania were requested and read to determine the current extent of environmental reporting. The results indicated that the information reported by organisations operating in Tanzania mostly came from the categories ‘Organisational context’ and ‘Management performance, policies and systems. The information from ‘environmental performance’ category was left unreported. After the current extent of environmental reporting has been explored, the environmental reporting framework (ERF) was developed. The framework intended to provide guidance on environmental reporting to organisations (from the industrial sector) of any size operating in the country. In particular the framework provided the guidance on four steps to be followed when preparing environmental reports and the content to be included in the reports. After the ERF was developed, it was tested to investigate its applicability using two case studies. Evaluation of the biodiversity reporting in the South African fishing industry

In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Commerce University of the Witwatersrand, October 2017 / Biodiversity is a serious concern for companies using natural resources in their operations and should be examined closely in order to assess how these companies are reporting their biodiversity related impacts. This thesis evaluates the biodiversity disclosures reported by companies in the South African fishing industry. The integrated and sustainability reports of these companies were examined over a three year period for the quantity and quality of their biodiversity related disclosures. This involved the examination of the extent, location, and quality of such disclosures by South African fishing companies. The thesis finds that there is a distinct lack of biodiversity-related disclosures in the South African fishing industry. This thesis highlights the operation of organised hypocrisy in an industry which relies on the availability of natural resources and the state of biodiversity in order to continue its operations. It was found that a possible reason for limited biodiversity disclosures by South African fishing companies was to avoid public scrutiny of their biodiversity impact. The thesis contributes to the evaluation of a country, and more specifically an industry, that is heavily reliant on the state of biodiversity. / GR2018

I Sveriges Riksdag togs år 2016 ett beslut om lagändring som tvingar stora företag att lämna hållbarhetsrapporter och att låta företagets revisor granska rapporten. Det nya området som revisorer ställs inför, att granska hållbarhetsrapporter enlig lag, är ett outvecklat område där revisorer har lite erfarenhet. En revisor kan aldrig granska all information som företagen presenterar i sina rapporter och därför kan revisorn först anses klar med sin revision när han eller hon känner sig komfortabel. Ett tillstånd av komfort grundar sig i individens känsla för när han eller hon är klar med sin granskning.     Syftet med denna studie är att bidra med en ökad förståelse för vad det är som gör en revisor komfortabel i sin lagstadgade granskning av hållbarhetsrapporter. För att uppfylla syftet har vi valt att göra en kvalitativ undersökning, i form av intervjuer och en kompletterande dokumentstudie, som grundar sig på en abduktiv analysstrategi. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt har vi valt att använda oss av Carrington och Catasús (2007) studie om revision som komfort samt begreppen: revisorsprofessionen och granskningsprocessen.     Resultatet av denna studie visar på att revisorer till stor del uppnår komfort i granskning av hållbarhetsrapporter genom att samarbeta med kollegor eller hållbarhetsspecialister. Revisorerna har generellt interna dokument att följa vilket gör att de tydligt vet när de kan känna sig klara och komfortabla med sin granskning. Antalet revisorer som utför denna typ av granskning är begränsat och därför finns det behov av mer forskning på detta område i framtiden när mer erfarenhet av lagstadgad granskning av hållbarhetsrapporter finns hos revisorsprofessionen. / In the Swedish Parliament, in the year of 2016, a decision was made to amend the law, which forces large companies to submit sustainability reports and forces the company's auditor to review the report. The new area that auditors are faced with, to assure sustainability reports according to law, is an undeveloped area where auditors have little experience. An auditor can never review all information presented by the companies in their reports, and therefore the auditor can first be considered ready with the audit when he or she feels comfortable. A state of comfort is based on the individual's sense of when he or she is finished with his review.   The purpose of this study is to contribute with an increased understanding of what makes auditors comfortable in their assurance of sustainability reports. To fulfill the purpose, we have chosen to do a qualitative study, in the form of interviews and a document study, which is based on an abductive analysis strategy. As a starting point, we chose chose to use Carrington and Catasús (2007) study of audit as comfort as well as the concepts: the audit profession and the assurance process.   The result of this study shows, among other things, that auditors largely achieve comfort in reviewing sustainability reports by collaborating and taking the help of their colleagues or sustainability specialists. The auditors generally have internal documents to follow, which means that they clearly know when they can feel comfortable with their review. The number of auditors performing this type of review is limited and therefore there is a need for more research when the auditors have collected more experience in the area of statutory assurance of sustainability reports

O escopo desta pesquisa é mapear os pontos nos quais os licenciandos têm dificuldades em transmitir por escrito o que observaram em sala, nos diários de campo e relatórios de estágio, desde as práticas de ensino de Língua Portuguesa até as relações entre os agentes que compõem o cenário da sala de aula. Buscamos, desta forma, um estudo analítico e crítico dos diários e relatórios estudados, a fim de corroborar que o processo de escrita no estágio supervisionado pode resultar na produção de conhecimento, além do desenvolvimento profissional do (futuro) professor e profissional de letras; para isso, contamos com os estudos pertinentes à etnografia no contexto escolar (ANDRÉ, 2008) e à observação (LÜDKE e ANDRÉ, 1986). Enfatizamos a importância do registro do estágio supervisionado e, para isso, é preciso contarmos com o planejamento de como ocorrerá. Nesta empreitada, é de suma relevância o registro escrito, para que se organize o pensamento e, portanto, para que os acontecimentos não se percam, obtendo-se, assim, dados de maior consistência, o que possibilita um diário de campo e um relatório mais fidedignos. Como referencial teórico para as análises, mobilizamos conhecimentos acerca do Princípio da Cooperação (GRICE, 1975), da Teoria da relevância (SPERBER e WILSON, 2005) e dos Princípios da Construção Textual de Sentido (KOCH, 2015). Proporcionamos reflexões sobre a enunciação (BENVENISTE, 1988, 1989), a Análise do Discurso (PÊCHEUX, 2014 [1990]), (FOUCAULT, 2014 [1970; 1969]), (DUCROT, 1987), e a gestão do conhecimento (VALENTIN, 2008) (NONAKA e KONNO, 1998). / The scope of this study is to map the points in which the undergraduates face difficulties in transmitting in their writing what they observed in the classroom, in the journals and reports of supervised teaching training stages at the Languages Course to the relations between the participants that compose the classroom setting. In this way, an analytical and critical study of the journals and reports will be sought, in order to corroborate that the writing process in the supervised teaching training can result in the production of knowledge, besides the professional development of the (future) teacher and profesional languages; for that, we rely on the ethnographical studies pertaining to the school context (ANDRÉ, 2008) and the observation (ANDRÉ and LÜDKE, 1986). We emphasize the importance of supervised internship registration and, for this, it is necessary to count on the planning of how it will happen. In this work, the written record is held as essential to organize the thought processes and, therefore, to ascertain that the observed events are not lost, obtaining, thus, more consistent data and more trustworthy observation journals and reports. As theoretical references for the analysis, we mobilize knowledge about the Principle of Cooperation (GRICE, 1975), Relevance Theory (SPERBER and WILSON, 2005) and the Principles of Textual Construction of Meaning (Koch, 2015). Furthermore, we have brought reflections about enunciation (BENVENISTE, 1988, 1989), Discourse Analysis (PÊCHEUX, 2014 [1990]), (FOUCAULT, 2014 [1970, 1969]), (DUCROT, 1987), and generation of knowledge (VALENTIN, 2008), (NONAKA and KONNO, 1998).

O que ensinar nas diferentes escolas públicas primárias paulistas: um estudo sobre os programas de ensino (1887-1929) / What to teach in the different São Paulos public primary schools: a study about course studies (1887-1929)

O estudo aqui apresentado insere-se na linha de pesquisa História da Educação e Historiografia. Trata-se da análise dos programas de ensino produzidos entre 1887 e 1929 no Estado de São Paulo, identificando os saberes escolares (matérias e conteúdos) escolhidos para serem ensinados nos seguintes tipos de escolas públicas primárias existentes no período: as escolas isoladas, as escolas-modelo, os grupos escolares, as escolas-modelo isoladas e as escolas reunidas. Para cada uma dessas modalidades de escolas, havia um programa de ensino específico a ser cumprido, significando, portanto, que as crianças que as freqüentavam não tinham a oportunidade de acesso aos mesmos saberes escolares. A partir do exame dos programas de ensino - os quais eram incorporados na legislação escolar ou publicados sob a forma de anexos na mesma - buscou-se atentar para aspectos como a permanência, o acréscimo e/ou a exclusão de determinados saberes escolares, além do modo como esses eram apresentados, isto é, se eram apenas descritas as matérias que deviam ser ensinadas ou se eram também detalhados os conteúdos de cada uma delas. Com isso, foi possível concluir que as finalidades principais das escolas primárias eram a nacionalização e a moralização dos alunos, embora, no caso das escolas isoladas, aquelas não tenham sido seus focos iniciais. Outro objetivo da pesquisa foi procurar referências à questão dos programas de ensino feitas por diversos profissionais da educação ao longo do período. Para isso, foram investigados relatórios de professores, de diretores de escolas-modelo e de grupos escolares (encontrados sob a forma de manuscritos), bem como de inspetores escolares. Nesse caso, eles também consistem em manuscritos, mas posteriormente passaram a ser incluídos nos Anuários do Ensino do Estado de São Paulo (1907-1926). Além disso, foram estudados textos de três periódicos educacionais paulistas cujos colaboradores, geralmente, ocupavam posições de destaque na hierarquia do sistema público de ensino do Estado de São Paulo (professores e exalunos da Escola Normal, diretores de escolas, entre outros): Revista de Ensino (1902-1918), Revista Escolar (1925-1927) e Educação (1927-1929). O recurso aos relatórios de ensino e às publicações pedagógicas permitiu entrever, especialmente, a participação ativa dos diversos sujeitos escolares no tocante ao debate em torno do que ensinar nas escolas primárias. Como fundamentação teórica, os principais autores utilizados foram André Chervel e Dominique Julia, que propõem a história das disciplinas escolares como meio de desvendar a cultura escolar, além de Ivor Goodson, um dos expoentes da história do currículo. / This study is included in the field of Education History and Historiography. It is an analysis about the courses of studies elaborated between 1887 and 1929 in São Paulo, identifying the school knowledge (subjects and contents) selected to be teached in the following types of public primary schools existed in the period: isolated schools, model schools, graded schools, isolated model schools and reunited schools. For each model of school, there was a specific course of studies to be complied, meaning, thus, that the children that they attended couldnt have access to the same school knowledge. Through the investigation of the course of studies - that were incorporated in school legislation or attached in it - it aimed to pay attention to aspects as stability, addiction, and/or exclusion of certain school knowledge, besides the way that they were presented, it means, if only they described the subjects to be teached or if they detailed the contents of each one. This way, it was possible to conclude that the main goals of the primary schools were the nationalization and the moralization of the students. However, in case of isolated schools, those werent the initial focus. Other intent of this research was look for references about the issue of course of studies made by different educational professionals during the period. For this objective, it were analyzed teachers, principals of model schools and graded schools (they are found as manuscripts) and inspectors reports. In this case, they also can be found as manuscripts, but later they were included in the Anuários do Ensino do Estado de São Paulo (1907-1926). Besides, it were investigated texts published in three educational magazines which authors, generally, kept high positions in the hierarchy of São Paulos public educational system (teachers and old students of Normal School, principals of schools, and others): Revista de Ensino (1902-1918), Revista Escolar (1925-1927) and Educação (1927-1929). Through the utilization of the educational reports and the educational magazines it was able to note the active participation of the different educational professionals involving discussion about what to teach in primary schools. As theoretical standpoint, the main authors that have been used were André Chervel and Dominique Julia, who suggest the history of school subjects as a way to discover the school culture, and Ivor Goodson, one of the exponents of the history of curriculum.

Este trabalho relaciona elementos das áreas de Computação e Saúde para comporem a elaboração de uma metodologia para avaliação de usabilidade de sistemas de transcrição automática de laudos na área de Radiologia. Inicialmente, é apresentado um estudo realizado sobre a área de Interface do Usuário Baseada em Voz que identifica requisitos para os sistemas que trabalham com comunicação mediada por voz assim como as iniciativas no sentido de se criar uma metodologia para sua avaliação. Em seguida é realizado um estudo dos sistemas de transcrição automática de laudos, no qual os principais requisitos são caracterizados e classificados. Os dois estudos acima citados foram integrados para a elaboração de uma metodologia para a avaliação de Sistemas de Transcrição Automática de Laudos em Radiologia. A metodologia foi, então, validada previamente através de inspeções e testes de usabilidade realizados fora do ambiente hospitalar, através do uso de um sistema de transcrição automática de laudos em Radiologia. Posteriormente, a metodologia foi também aplicada a um hospital da cidade de São Paulo. Como resultado principal foi proposto um guia bastante detalhado para se avaliar os Sistemas de Transcrição Automática de Laudos em Radiologia, cada vez mais presentes em hospitais e clínicas no país, além dos relatos das experiências obtidas com a aplicação desta metodologia em um caso real. / This work combines knowledge from Computer Science and Health Science in order to propose an evaluation methodology for Automatic Transcription System of Radiology Reports. At first a study regarding a Voice User Interface is presented, this interface identifies the requirements for Spoken Language Dialogue Systems and it can also be used as a tool for an evaluation methodology. Following, a study of automatic transcription systems is presented; in this study the main requirements are listed and classified. Both studies were integrated to allow a new methodology to evaluate an Automatic Transcription System in Radiology. This methodology was previously validated through some inspections and usability tests outside the hospital environment and afterword the methodology was used in a hospital in São Paulo city. As a main result it was proposed a very detailed guide for evaluating the Automatic Transcription Systems Reports in Radiology, increasingly found in hospitals and clinics in this country, apart from reports on experiences gained in applying this methodology in a real case.

Propõe-se conhecer significados e sentidos da construção social de sexualidades e de gêneros a partir da experiência emocional e social de três homens e de três mulheres, entre 21 e 27 anos, que buscaram atendimento no Plantão Psicológico do Serviço de Aconselhamento Psicológico SAP , do Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade de São Paulo IPUSP, com queixas afetivo-sexuais. Essas queixas afetivo-sexuais fornecem elementos para reflexão sobre códigos de conduta vigentes com relação aos gêneros e ao exercício da sexualidade. A pesquisa adota perspectiva qualitativa tendo como base o método dos relatos orais na forma de depoimento. Os depoimentos revelam vivências singulares e diferentes formas de negociação no contexto social, sendo a sexualidade imbricada nesta dinâmica de forma problematizada. Os significados e sentidos relacionados com a vivência afetivo-sexual partem de códigos, normas e valores em vigor no contexto social família, escola, meios de comunicação, saber especializado, entre outros , que fornecem contornos para sensações, situações, palavras e estados corporais. As concepções de gênero partem de versões associadas aos estereótipos vigentes, sendo que o ser homem e o ser mulher, respectivamente, são relacionados à atividade e à passividade. Os depoimentos revelam a tensão entre a experiência afetivo-sexual idealizada e a experiência afetivo-sexual vivida, intensificando a angústia e o sofrimento. O modelo de atenção psicológica oferecido pelo Plantão Psicológico prioriza a valorização das experiências vividas a partir do encontro, do cuidado e da atenção, afastando-se de um enfoque normativo do atendimento psicoterapêutico. / The present work proposes to know the meanings and senses of the social construction of sexualities and genders based upon the emotional and social experiences of three men and three women, aged 21 to 27, who had sexual-affective complaints and sought help at the Psychological Counseling Service (SAP) Stand by Attendance of the Psychology Institute of the University of São Paulo (IPUSP). These complaints provide elements for reflexion about current behavior codes which are related to genders and to the exercise of sexuality. This research adopts a qualitative perspective based upon the method of oral description in the form of depositions. The depositions reveal singular life experiences and different forms of negotiation in the social context in which the sexuality is concealed in this dynamic in a problematic way. The meanings and senses related to the sexual-affective life experience derive from codes, rules and values which are present in the social context family, school, media, specialized knowledge, among others , and provide framework for sensations, situations, words and body states. The conceptions of gender derive from versions associated with the current stereotypes in which the men-being and the woman-being are related to activity and passivity, respectively. The depositions also reveal the tension between the idealized sexual-affective experience and the lived sexual-affective experience, intensifying anguish and suffering. The model of psychological care offered by the Psychological Stand by Attendance prioritizes the valorisation of lived experiences through meeting, care and attention, moving away from a normative approach of the psychotherapeutic service.

Les mutations qui affectent l’éducation scolaire des sociétés occidentales de l’après Deuxième Guerre mondiale peuvent être lues comme la marque d’une décomposition de la modernité, décomposition considérée par certains auteurs comme l’un des traits les plus saillants de la postmodernité. A ce titre, elles ne peuvent manquer d’affecter les idéaux éducatifs, et plus particulièrement les valeurs et les finalités dont l’Ecole contemporaine se trouve investie.La fin du récit de l’émancipation par le savoir, le changement permanent et l’incertitude généralisée qui caractérisent notre époque étant en effet difficilement contestables, il revient à la réflexion philosophique contemporaine de chercher à déceler quelles sont, et quelles peuvent être, les recompositions des idéaux éducatifs dans le cadre d’un monde marqué du sceau de la complexité et de l’incertitude.Toutefois, si la postmodernité peut en un sens être considérée comme le point d’aboutissement d’un double processus de décomposition et de sécularisation du système de valeurs modernes que l’éducation scolaire était précisément censée incarner et promouvoir, elle n’en demeure pas moins une notion encore très diversement appréciée, selon que l’on se situe sur une rive ou l’autre de l’Atlantique. Centrale, voire pléthorique dans la problématique éducative du monde anglo-saxon, et dans une moindre mesure de l’aire québécoise, elle demeure relativement discrète en France. Une interrogation philosophique et historique des enjeux et des implications de la postmodernité eu égard aux idéaux éducatifs doit prendre en considération cette différence qui ne saurait être sans signification.Ainsi ne s’agira-t-il pas tant de développer une lecture strictement comparative des interprétations de la postmodernité, que de viser à une mise en lumière des problématiques transversales que cette notion engage sur le plan historico-philosophique et politico-éducatif à partir d’une analyse d’un corpus textes constitué de rapports rendus publics en France et au Québec des années 1960 au milieu des années 2000. / Changes affecting occidental societies’ scholar education since de Second World War can be interpreted as modernity disintegration, itself read by several authors as a postmodernity highest expression. In that respect, changes inevitably affect educational ideals, and particularly contemporary School values and ends.In front of the end of emancipation by knowledge speech, perpetual change and general uncertainness which characterize our times, the contemporary philosophical thought has to understand which are, and can be, re-compositions of the educational ideals in our complex and uncertain world.However, if postmodernity can be considered as the result of a double process of scholar values disintegration and secularization, it stays a differently received notion in Europe and North America. In a central position on Anglo-Saxon’s educational questions, and to a lesser extent in Quebec, it stays quite understated in France. Philosophical and historical thought about stakes and involvements of postmodernity regarding educational ideals have to consider this difference which is necessarily meaningful.So, this thesis will not develop a purely comparative interpretation of postmodernity, but will draw attention to questions involved by postmodernity on historical, philosophical and politico-educational ways, based on Quebec and French public reports published from the 1960’s to the middle of the 2000’s.

Discussing about the contexts where the reports are made and the meaning of assessments, this work aims to contribute for a better understanding about children assessment and also how the notes from class can be organized in order to be translated in a language for assessments. The Theory of this work is based on Social Historical and Cultural Activity Theory from Vygotsky Studies (1930; 1934) and also from Leontiev (1904; 1979), and extended by Engeström (1999; 2001). The goal, based on these presupposes, is to understand the teach-learning process according to mediator assessment conception and also the language comprehension (Bakhtin/ Volochnov,1929), observing the assessment as a activity no separate from this process. Another theory point is about the meaning of assessment, once these conceptions are very important in order to understand how to assess in the teach-learning process. As it is an action-research, joined it the research-teacher and her pupils, resulting two kinds of assessment reports used in a Sao Paulo Public Kindergarten School. The results shows that the ways used to assess children are connected to teach-learning process conceptions of teacher and school. When professional and critical pedagogical skills are adopted, it may not let to assess the assessment. Understanding that Kindergarten is a process over the school, this work shows that, through the language, the assessment reports may include not only children and teacher through the description of teach-learning process, but also the parents once the language used is understandable / Este estudo tem por objetivo analisar dois tipos de relatórios de avaliação, utilizados em Educação Infantil, visando compreender de que forma a linguagem que os organiza contribui para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Discutindo o contexto de produção dos relatórios, assim como alguns dos sentidos e significados de avaliação construídos, este trabalho busca contribuir para uma maior compreensão acerca da atividade de avaliar crianças, bem como da organização de registros e observações de aulas, que se materializam na e pela linguagem dos relatórios. Teoricamente, o trabalho está apoiado na Teoria da Atividade Sócio-Histórico-Cultural, oriunda dos estudos de Vygotsky (1930; 1934), também por seu colaborador Leontiev (1904; 1979), e ampliada pelos estudos realizados por Engeström (1999; 2001). Com base nesses pressupostos, busca-se entender o processo de ensino-aprendizagem dentro da concepção de mediação e também de compreensão dialógica da linguagem (Bakhtin/ Volochinov, 1929), observando a avaliação como uma atividade inerente a esse processo. Outro ponto teórico abordado relaciona-se aos sentidos e significados de avaliação, uma vez que esses conceitos são fundamentais para compreender o avaliar dentro do processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Participaram da pesquisa, que se realizou como pesquisa-ação, a professora-pesquisadora e seus alunos, compondo-se, os dados focais, de dois tipos de relatórios de avaliação, utilizados em uma Escola Municipal de Educação Infantil de São Paulo. Os resultados demonstram que os instrumentos usados para avaliar crianças estão entrelaçados às concepções de ensino-aprendizagem do educador e da escola. Ao se adotar uma postura profissional crítica frente à prática pedagógica, não se pode, pois, deixar de avaliar a avaliação. Entendendo a Educação Infantil como um processo que ultrapassa os muros da escola, este estudo mostra que, por meio da linguagem, os relatórios de avaliação podem incluir não só a criança e o professor, pela descrição e argumentação sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, mas também, os familiares das crianças, no entendimento da linguagem materializada no relatório

Depressão: intervenção pela abordagem analítico- comportamental.

Participated in this study a male person, 25 years old and one female, aged 23, who used antidepressant medications. The research was conducted in experimental therapeutic context. To evaluate the antecedents and the consequences of the reports of negative emotional states of the participants, we applied three methods such as (a) indirect functional evaluation, (b) functional evaluation through direct observation and (c) experimental functional evaluation, with using the experimental design of reversion with the first participant and reversion-replication, within follow-up for the second participant. This design was used to control the procedures during interventions in order to reduce reports of negative emocional states, to express in front of people for the first participant and to increase the frequency of desired behaviors for social interaction with second participant s husband. Another class of target behavior was to look away, however none specific consequence was scheduled, since the goal was to assess if the intervention s efficacy was extended to other classes. The results showed that reports of negative emotional states was reduced in its frequency, under differential reinforcement alternative effect (DRA). They also demonstrated the increasing frequency of expressing in front of people, as well as the desired behaviors for social interaction with the husband. The results also showed that the behavior of look away reduced frequency even if not have been applied an specific consequence for that behavior class. Consequently, they also demonstrated the importance of the procedures applied, such as functional assessment interviews and direct observation of target behaviors. The results indicated that depressive behaviors are a function of social environment and absense of appropriate repertoire for dealing with aversive events, when of the impossibility of liberation of other reinforcing agents. Therefore, besides having advanced the researche, the results corroborate with the literature of the area and its implications. / Este estudo objetivou avaliar funcionalmente relatos indicativos de estados emocionais negativos de duas pessoas diagnosticadas, pela medicina psiquiátrica, com episódio depressivo maior. Participou deste estudo uma pessoa do sexo masculino, de 25 anos e uma pessoa do sexo feminino, de 23 anos, que faziam uso de medicamentos antidepressivos. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em contexto terapêutico experimental. Para avaliar os antecedentes e consequentes de relatos de estados emocionais negativos dos participantes, foram empregados procedimentos de (a) avaliação funcional indireta, (b) avaliação funcional por meio de observação direta e (c) avaliação funcional experimental com o uso do delineamento de reversão para o primeiro participante e reversão-replicação, seguido por follow-up para o segundo participante. Esse delineamento foi utilizado para o controle dos procedimentos durante as intervenções para a redução de relatos de estados emocionais negativos, expressar diante das pessoas para o primeiro participante e para aumentar a frequência de comportamentos desejados para a interação social com o esposo do segundo participante. Outra classe de comportamento-alvo foi o desviar os olhos, porém nenhuma consequência específica foi programada, uma vez que o objetivo era avaliar se a eficácia da intervenção se estenderia para outras classes. Os resultados demonstraram que os relatos de estados emocionais negativos reduziram de frequência sob o efeito do reforçamento diferencial alternativo (DRA). Demonstraram, também, que o comportamento de expressar diante das pessoas aumentou de frequência, assim como os comportamentos desejados para a interação com o esposo. Os resultados apontaram, também, que o comportamento de desviar o olhar reduziu de frequência mesmo não tendo sido aplicada uma consequência específica para essa classe. Apontaram, ainda, para a relevância dos procedimentos adotados, como as entrevistas de avaliação funcional, bem como da observação direta dos comportamentos-alvo. Os resultados indicaram serem os comportamentos depressivos função do ambiente social e da falta de repertórios apropriados para lidar com eventos aversivos, quando da impossibilidade da liberação de outros agentes reforçadores. Por conseguinte, além de ter avançado nas pesquisas, os resultados corroboraram com a literatura da área e suas implicações.
