An exploratory study into the financial situations of elderly wards of the Public Guardian and Conservator of Multnomah County

Hudson, Ruth D. 01 January 1978 (has links)
It has been the practice of the Public Guardian and Conservator (PG and C*) of Multnomah County to collect fees for service to elderly wards on an annual basis usually at the time of the annual accounting. The purpose of this study is to determine the profitability of deferring the assessment and collection of fees until the termination of conservatorship. The assumption is that such a policy would provide an immediate benefit to the ward who would enjoy more spendable income while he is alive and at the same time the Public Guardian and Conservator could still collect his fee, although at a later date. This argument is predicated on the assumption that at the termination of conservatorship, the ward is financially solvent and the estate is able to defray the cost of services. By examining the records of past wards, the study should be able to predict the feasibility of a policy that would assess and collect conservatorship fees at the time of termination.

Lévesque, Philippe 04 1900 (has links)
This study proposes to examine two characteristic features of guardian relationships among the Innu and Naskapi of eastern Canada. In contrast to the ethnography of other Aboriginal groups of the Algonquian family, the Innu ethnography, on the one hand, is elusive with respect to guardian relationships with animals, while on the other hand, relationships with an anthropomorphic entity, Mishtapeu, are omnipresent. Through the analysis of traditional narratives, also myths, this work aims to evaluate whether this singular state of guardianship relations among the Innu and Naskapi stems from cosmological transformations that took place in the more or less recent past, and that would have resulted, firstly, in the gradual weakening of guardianship relations with animals, and secondly, in the emergence and consolidation of Mishtapeu. The analysis of a first group of stories, through a syntagmatic structuralist approach, attempts to identify the framework of a ritual for obtaining an animal tutelary entity in order to demonstrate the profound influence of the complex of the tutelary animal among the Innu. It is the relationship with Mishtapeu that the analysis of a second group of stories attempts to clarify. Diffusionist and symbolic analyses then attempt to determine a time and place of emergence of the entity as well as to propose credible conceptual tracks of its origin.

[pt] O DIREITO À IMAGEM SEGUNDO O STJ: A HISTÓRIA DE UMA SÚMULA / [en] THE RIGHT TO PROTECT ONE S IMAGE ACCORDING TO BRAZILIAN SUPERIOR COURT OF JUSTICE: THE HISTORY OF A SUMMARY

FREDERICO OLIVEIRA FRANCO 19 September 2023 (has links)
[en] Abstract: Image s development is confused with history of art and humanity because it is considered the means of representation that enabled the emergence of written language. At every moment of history, image communicate with the external environment more and more quickly and efficiently, contributing directly and decisively to material progress. It is undeniable that the massification of the media, both print and television, has developed propaganda at global levels. This had great relevance to raise the right to one s own image to what it is today: an attribute of the human personality. The right of one s image allows individuals the right to control the use of their image, voice, name, likeness, and the way it is perceived by society. This means that individuals have the right to authorize or prohibit the use of their image in any medium, including photography, film, television and more recently, also in the virtual environment. This dissertation aims to outline an overview of the evolution of the right of one s image in Brazil, starting from the historical analysis of the institute, its evolution in Brazilian doctrine and in the jurisprudence of the Superior Court of Justice. Having as theoretical reference the article How the Superior Courts have been honouring the Citizen Constitution, by Eugenio Facchini Neto, our research methodology starts from the analysis of 42 judgments judged by the two classes of private law of the STJ, exposed in chronological order, unveiling the fundamentals that led to the edition of Entry 403, of 2009, as well as, then from its application to the present day. The work intends to offer a panoramic systematization of the right to one s image, addressing its concept, its contours, and its main characteristics, in addition to revealing through empirical research, how it has been protected by Brazilian Court of Justice over the last thirty years.

Vilken roll har överförmyndarverksamhetens organiseringsform? : En studie om tjänstepersoners uppfattningar i fyra mindre kommuner / What is the role of the organizational form of the chief guardians? : A study about officials perceptions in four smaller municipalities

Nilsson, Carl January 2022 (has links)
My research problem is that there are different ways to organize a chief guardians office at the same time as the Deputy Inquiry (2021:36) gives suggestions on making one type of organization form mandatory. The chief guardians are not uniform and the muncipalities can organize their chief guardians office in different ways. At the same time, the Deputy Inquiry (2021:36) have given a proposals to restrict municipal self government in order to ensure increased quality and legal certainty in the exercise of authority through a certain type of organization. The purpose of my thesis is to shed light on muncicipalities choice of organizational form for their chief guardians office and officials perceptions of its advantages and disadvantages of the same. The thesis theoretical framework is partly organizations as instruments, partly the values of democray, rule of law and efficiency. I use a qualitative reserach design where my material consists of interviews and public documents. My conclusion is that there are different reasons/purposes for the chosen forms of organization. The purposes are not identical with each other. The purposes also differs between whether the chief guardians office is conducted in-house or through collaboration. My thesis shows that the pros and cons of the different types of form of organization differs.Regardless of whether the organization is in collaboration or under its own auspeices, the bord of chief guardian or chief guardian can contribute to organizational structures that can have different advantages and disadvantages. Chief guardians that are organized via intermunicipal collboration can easily recruit personel, has judicial competence and has more personel. They also contribute to increased uniformity over a larger geographic area. But they can also have negative effects such as can be derived from structure. An unexpected but interesting finding that emerged during my work is to be ”made visible”. In my analysis Iargue that democracy maybe is the value that underlies efficieny and rule of law. There are perceptions about a most appropriate way to organize the chief guardians office of. My conclusion is that the joint committe is perceived to be the most appropriate form of organization.

We change our minds : Gudardians' experiences of their children switching from mainstream school to a signing special school.

Skillmark, Ida January 2024 (has links)

Parental involvement in single-parent/guardian and two-parent/guardian school-learner households, in Durban, South Africa

Gounden, Nirvana 02 1900 (has links)
With the quality of our South African public education system internationally in question we need to look into supplemental ways to improve the education of our country’s children. Numerous studies have shown that parental involvement has a positive effect on student academic achievement. This study aimed to quantitatively determine the current extent and types of parental involvement in the education of their school-going children, in single-parent/guardian and two-parent/guardian households in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This included General Education and Training (GET) and Further Education and Training (FET) levels. The method of time-space sampling was used to administer a researcher-created questionnaire ‒ based on Epstein’s (2009) framework of six types of involvement ‒ pertaining to parents/guardians in the Durban CBD. The findings of the study resulted in recommendations pertaining to: the aspects of parental involvement that elicited low levels of involvement such as significant numbers of parents from single-parent households indicating that they would attend parent days at school if they were given a choice of possible attendance days; the need to identify and support parents that are unable to participate as much as they would like to by offering transportation for school meetings or activities, including school governing body and budget meetings; and the requests from parents/guardians regarding the use of technology in the form of sms communication in helping them to stay more informed regarding the progress etc. of their child at school. / ABET and Youth Development / M.
