Sensor Based Fixture Design and Verification

Purushothaman, Radhakrishnan 21 January 2003 (has links)
The objectives of Sensor Based Fixture Design and Verification (SFDV) research are to provide the means for detecting contact failure of the workpiece with fixture locators and for preventing incorrect loading of the workpiece in a fixture. The fixtures that involve complex free-form surfaces especially in the aerospace industries face problems caused by the contact failure of the workpiece with locators. In batch and mass production defects often occur due to incorrect loading of the workpiece in a fixture by an operator due to fatigue or inadvertence. The current fixturing research is focussed on improving the fixture quality and other aspects and do not address these issues. This research is focussed on three areas, to generate algorithms for automatically foolproofing the fixtures, to build locators with embedded sensors that could be used to verify the contact and foolproof the existing fixtures, and to design and experimentally validate fixtures for free-form surfaces with sensors to verify the location. In foolproofing, workpieces were classified into different categories to identify the existence of a solution and the geometry was simplified and used to search for a solution based on symmetry/asymmetry to discover a foolproofing location. The algorithms were implemented in a CAD software and the solutions were verified in 3D space. The locators with inbuilt sensors were designed for foolproofing and location verification purposes and the sensors were used in case studies to establish credibility. A sensor based fixture design method is created for the part location of free-form surfaces using fiber optic sensors. An experimental fixture with sensors incorporated in the locators was used to determine the effects of surface curvature on the sensitivity of the sensors. A new theory on best locations for the sensor based locators by utilizing surface curvature is proposed based on the experimental results. The SFDV implementation may help realize the dream for any manufacturing system aspiring to move beyond the six sigma levels of quality and achieve zero defects.

Prieto Dueñas, Ingrid Katherine, Silva Huaycochea, Juvenal Aleksander 23 January 2022 (has links)
The objective of this research work was to propose a proposal for improvement in the post-sale service process in face-to-face stores in Lima of a telecommunications company in Peru, applying Lean Service tools and work standardization. The company under study has a customer satisfaction level of 67% on an annual average, while the objective set must be greater than 72%, the parent company has a level of 80%. The low percentage of customer satisfaction is mainly due to two reasons: High time, which represents 33% and Erroneous information with 30%, of the reasons for low satisfaction. This implies an economic loss for the company of S / 9,112,519 soles in the period February 2019 - January 2020, this impact represents 1.7% of the annual gross income, considering only mobile telephony in Lima for the period under study. Given the problem presented, the implementation of Lean Service tools such as: Work standardization and Poka Yoke is proposed, which allowed reducing the time in the processes of greatest impact for the company: in renovation it was reduced by 22%, in replacement a 18% and 17% in suspension. Finally, it is concluded that the project is viable due to the analysis carried out through the economic indicators, obtaining a NAN of S / 200,650 and an TIR of 61%, in addition, the profitability index (IR) of the project is 4.4, and this indicates that for each Invested sol, a profit of 3.4 soles is obtained. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional

Optimeringsmetod för produktionssystem med simulering och lean produktion / Optimization method for production systems with simulation and lean production

Levinsson, Samuel, Holgert, Douglas January 2023 (has links)
Through the report, knowledge will increase regarding the identification and reduction ofbottlenecks based on the simulation tool Facts Analyzer and lean-tools. The increasedknowledge will generate opportunities for companies to work in a structured and efficientway through a own developed work model. The model will provide the conditions forcompanies to increase their productivity and at the same time reduce total costs. The methodson which the work model is based are quantitative, qualitative, abduction and are realized through a case company where the aim is to investigate the applicability and if productioncan be made more efficient. With simulation tools, clear and fact-based results are created on the effect differentimprovement options have on production, and thus it is considered a good tool to basedecisions on before investments are made. Based on the identified bottlenecks, with the helpof the simulation tool, it is proven that lean-tools can be used to optimize production andreduce non-value-creating activities. For example, the results show that 5S, Kaizen, PokaYoke, Total Productive Maintenance and Overall Equipment Efficiency are effectivelean-tools. To increase production capacity, it is a matter of first identifying the bottlenecks through thesimulation tool. The bottleneck's OEE value is then calculated, which creates indications ofthe limitations and thus highlights where improvement proposals are needed. Through theindications together with additional lean-tools, improvement proposals are then created with afocus on reducing the bottleneck. In contrast, to identify total cost reduction andnon-value-creating activities, observations and interviews with the staff are used instead.Improvement proposals are then developed, as for the production capacity, through lean-toolsto minimize Muda.

Battle for the Punchbowl: The U. S. 1st Marine Division 1951 Fall Offensive of the Korean War

Montandon, Joshua W. 08 1900 (has links)
This study is an operational and tactical study of a battle fought by the U. S. 1st Marine Division near "the Punchbowl," an extinct volcano of military value in the Taebaek Mountains of Korea, from late August through mid September 1951. That engagement was to be the last 1st Marine Division offensive of the Korean War. This battle, for Yoke and Kanmubong Ridges, has received little coverage from historians. That it is all but forgotten is surprising, since it was one of the hardest fought for United States Marines in the war. The casualties were high, and Americans did not understand why so many had to die for a war that seemed to already be set to conclude by negotiations. This study tells the story of that battle more completely than ever before, and assesses its significance to the course of the Korean War.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Ronald Lobo.pdf: 1081187 bytes, checksum: b9124717e299fd8f59bc6fe1edd15974 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-05-12 / The aim of the present study is to propose a reading of the book of Isaiah 58,1-12 which deals with a genuine fasting. The prophecy of Trito Isaiah, is intrinsically connected to justice and righteousness. As for the exegetical study the synchronic perspective is used. The study of literary aspect and historical context leads us to situate the perícope at the beginning of post-exilic period around 538-520 b.C. The exiled judean community returns to the homeland, and tries to reconstruct itself at the beginning of the Persian rule. In this context, the prophet s criticism tries to correct the religious practice, the fast as it is practiced, cut off of social solidarity with the fragile groups like those of hungry, naked and homeless. Through eight innovative forms of doing justice and righteousness the text proposes a new fast. Orders the end of all forms of oppression and on the counterpart proposes sharing of bread, clothing and boarding. The proposal goes ahead, asks for sharing of one s own life through a radical solidarity. For those who practice genuine fast, the LORD promises his continuous presence, the necessary protection and a happy future. The dissertation is divided into four parts, all along, the commentary style prevails. The study wants to contribute, the understanding of fasting in present time, in the hopes and problems our society faces today / O presente estudo tem como meta propor uma leitura de Isaías Is 58,1-12 que fala de verdadeiro jejum.

Využití vybraných logistický metod ve výrobním podniku / The usage of selected logistic methods in the manufacturing concern

KOHOUTOVÁ, Anna January 2008 (has links)
The main aim of this work was to rate the usage of selected logistic methods and introduction of the operating system Kanban to the production line in the project {\clqq}C214 Top Roll`` of the company Faurecia Automotive Czech Republic, s.r.o, Interior Systems. A minor aim then was to find out the knowledge level of the Kanban method. Methodics Hypotheses: 1.The logistic flows used in the Faurecia company already function sufficiently enough, the proof of which is the stabilised production. 2.Using the operating system Kanban for functioning production, logistics and the whole company Faurecia is rather advantageous. 3.Training all the employees is a vital part in the process of introducing the operating system Kamban. Methods: deducion, situation analysis - collection of information, interviews, survey, questioning brief, modeling Structure of the practical part is following: company profile, character of pruduction and setting of the main logistical flows, determination of zones and stock sectors, process implementation and using of Kanban in the production line "C214 Top Roll". The first hypothesis can be confirmed by the situational analysis which evaluates the processing and logistic method. The individual methods {\clqq}met`` or {\clqq}nearly met`` the demands and because all the methods together partake of the production and the production has provided very good results in the previous months, we can consider the production being stabilised. The second can also be affirmed. If the production on a particular assembly line is stabilised, it is possible to introduce the Kanban method. Why not to use it if a there is a great advantage of this method in simplicity and lower production supplies which result in decreasing the total costs? It is beneficial for all participating on the production and for the Faurecia company as a whole. Third hypothesis can be confirmed as well. There has been a survey based on short questionaires and the knowledge of working and using the Kanban has been found inadequate. The best form of providing all the important information will be a training as a part of the process of introducing and using the Kanban method. Both aims have been resulted in stating possible recommendations and improvement suggestions: - production is stabilized, Kanban is possible to apply on 1.9. 2008 - training is necessary, meeting of responsible persons, control, messing, measures, - training of current and new workers, - motivation, communication improve, - system of regural records about information and control of chief (material and production planning)

A CONTINOUS ROTARY ACTUATION MECHANISM FOR A POWERED HIP EXOSKELETON

Ryder, Matthew C 17 July 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents a new mechanical design for an exoskeleton actuator to power the sagittal plane motion in the human hip. The device uses a DC motor to drive a Scotch yoke mechanism and series elasticity to take advantage of the cyclic nature of human gait and to reduce the maximum power and control requirements of the exoskeleton. The Scotch yoke actuator creates a position-dependent transmission that varies between 4:1 and infinity, with the peak transmission ratio aligned to the peak torque periods of the human gait cycle. Simulation results show that both the peak and average motor torque can be reduced using this mechanism, potentially allowing a less powerful motor to be used. Furthermore, the motor never needs to reverse direction even when the hip joint does. Preliminary testing shows the exoskeleton can provide an assistive torque and is capable of accurate position tracking at speeds covering the range of human walking. This thesis provides a detailed analysis of how the dynamic nature of human walking can be leveraged, how the hip actuator was designed, and shows how the exoskeleton performed during preliminary human trials.
