Nitschke, Peter January 2012 (has links)
I denna kandidatuppsats undersöks berättelsers retoriska funktion i tidningen Situation Sthlm. / This Bachelor thesis investigates the rhetorical function of stories published in the Stockholm based street newspaper, Situation Sthlm. The main purpose of the study is to investigate if, and in such a case how, the stories aid in obtaining the goals set by the newspaper with regards to their publishing criteria. A subordinate purpose to that is to investigate if, and in such a case how, the stories aid in creating a sense of identification for the readers. The materials used, include six stories retrieved from several different issues of Situation Sthlm, and in common each story depicts a homeless person who works as a vendor for the street newspaper. The thesis utilizes several different theories aimed at describing the concept of stories, the rhetorical function of stories as well as theories regarding the concept of identification. The model for narrative analysis established by Sonja K. Foss, has been applied for the analyses performed in this study, the model has however been slightly reduced due to the exclusion of certain categories that are included in the original model. It is concluded in this thesis that the six stories analyzed all have the potential of creating a sense of identification for the reader and that they, to an extent, contribute to the newspaper’s publishing criteria. Nevertheless, the stories that have the potential of capturing the largest amount of readers are those that include several different levels of specificity. This is partially achieved through highly detailed descriptions of the milieus in which the story takes place and partially through highly nuanced and multi-dimensional character portrayals in combination with creating an essence of the character’s actions as being well motivated and comprehendible. The usage of topos is also crucial in order to achieve the rhetorical aims in the stories analyzed. By offering an array of topos (fictional meeting places), which was the case for some of the stories, there is a reduced risk of excluding certain categories of readers.

Regelungstechnische Analyse und Synthese von MEMS mit elektrostatischem Wirkprinzip

Wolfram, Heiko 12 July 2007 (has links) (PDF)
This paper presents a detailed analysis of electrostatic actuated and capacitive detected MEMS. The micro-mechanical system to be analyzed is restricted to an acceleration sensor. A mathematical model is presented for the plant starting from a spring-mass-damping system. New identification methods of linear and nonlinear nature allow the identification of the underlying mechanical system out of the electrostatic one. This saves the use of optical measurement, which reduces the costs enormously. Besides, the methods identify the electrical signal way, which is used for the feedback control. The optimal controller is based on the known methods of H-infinity and H-2 minimization. The model structure also allows one to impose model uncertainties and demanded dynamics on the optimization. The stability is only guaranteed in a narrow band close to the working point because of the nonlinear behavior of the resulting system. Investigations for a wider displacement are done with a proper energy-like function and numerical analysis. Noise sources of the system are estimated and the sensitivity of the complete system is analyzed. Design criteria are given to rise the sensitivity. The focus of this paper is the complete analysis and synthesis of an electrostatic actuated and detected accelerometer. The results from simulations and practical tests confirm the developed theory and the power of the design.

Model Selection and Uniqueness Analysis for Reservoir History Matching

Rafiee, Mohammad Mohsen 28 March 2011 (has links) (PDF)
“History matching” (model calibration, parameter identification) is an established method for determination of representative reservoir properties such as permeability, porosity, relative permeability and fault transmissibility from a measured production history; however the uniqueness of selected model is always a challenge in a successful history matching. Up to now, the uniqueness of history matching results in practice can be assessed only after individual and technical experience and/or by repeating history matching with different reservoir models (different sets of parameters as the starting guess). The present study has been used the stochastical theory of Kullback & Leibler (K-L) and its further development by Akaike (AIC) for the first time to solve the uniqueness problem in reservoir engineering. In addition - based on the AIC principle and the principle of parsimony - a penalty term for OF has been empirically formulated regarding geoscientific and technical considerations. Finally a new formulation (Penalized Objective Function, POF) has been developed for model selection in reservoir history matching and has been tested successfully in a North German gas field.

Lantz, Anna January 2014 (has links)
Today, the mass media is playing a key role in reinforcing globalisation, providing people with information that can make them more enlightened about the world. But apart from being an efficient tool for spreading information and a possible ”window on the world” the media can also produce preconceptions and create distance between people and places. This is a study on how African countries are portrayed in the Swedish Television news. The aim of the study is to describe, analyse and compare how Africa was described in 2003 and how it is described ten years later, in 2013. The analysis is based on foreign news reports in one of the main Swedish public service broadcasters, Sveriges Television (SVT). The theoretical framework primarily consists of theories on media logic and news values, representation, identification, globalisation and cosmopolitanism. One of the main conclusions is that although the amount of news on Africa has increased, the character of the news reports is still dominated by negative events such as wars, conflicts and suffering. Alongside this stereotypical and highly negative portrayal of Africa exists another story that focuses on economic development and success – An image that both brings new insights and creates new stereotypes.

Gherman Palmert, Siri January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to examine how young men of foreign background are pictured in the realistic adolescence novels of 2009. In my process of work I have used a classical schedule for literature analysis from which I have worked out a few questions to use on my texts. The questions are related to the main characters and some of the most important minor characters – all are young men with foreign background – and focuses on aspects of for example where they live, who their friends are and what they think about and dream of. To put these pictures into a wider perspective I compare my results with the well known stereotype picturing of men with foreign background in media. I then discuss how or if this affects the young men’s picture of themselves and the majority society’s picture of them. Another part of my discussion is how school can provide good role models for their students and how and if we can work with these stereotypes. To relate to young men with foreign background I have used two culture studies. The result of my analysis shows that the picturing of young men with foreign background tends to be stiff and static and closely stereotype. My conclusion is therefore that the picturing of young men with foreign background in the realistic adolescence novels of 2009 is familiar to the ones we can see in media. And from looking at the two culture studies I used, I can see that the stereotype pictures tend to affect how these young men picture themselves and also how the majority society pictures them. This can in the long run be dreadful for the self-image of these young men.

The Male Gaze som retorisktverktyg : En utredande litteraturstudie över hur the Male Gaze kan användas inom retorikvetenskapen

Wiklund, Alexis January 2013 (has links)
The thought behind this bachelor essay regarding gender and rhetorical feminist criticism developed years ago out of the fact that I read just a little too many dirty chick lit-pockets as a teen. Those chick lit-pockets were my first introduction to sex, to gender roles, to how men and women react and are supposed to react to each other and, in some sense, even to feminism. Those chick lit-pockets, later turning into hardcore Harlequin-books, became my benchmark when I started to contemplate the fact that this is a man’s world, produced and reproduced by a male gaze which influences everything from sex, porn, advertising, gender roles, jobs and payment to dirty pockets for teenage girls. The essays aims to show how the male gaze-phenomenon could be to use for the rhetoric discipline: first combined with other rhetorical theories as a way to analyze and understand gender and objectification. The main question asked; How to put the male gaze on a rhetorical leash? This bachelor essay consists of a qualitative literature study focusing on four articles and one book in which five different male gaze-perspective appears. Every article presented will be followed by an explicative chapter in which the articles, specific male gaze- perspective will be combined with relevant rhetorical theories and applied to pop cultural example cases in order to demonstrate its academic potential. The conclusion of this essay establishes that the rhetorical discipline indeed could have great use of the male gaze-perspective while analyzing different kinds of artifacts, if combined with different kinds of methods. It confirms that it is possible to put the male gaze on a rhetorical leash and explains five specific ways to do so.

Karaktärsskapandets karaktär : En undersökning om karaktärsskapandets betydelse i MMORPGs / The nature of Character creation : A study on the character creations role in MMORPGs

Isaksson, Susanne January 2011 (has links)
Denna uppsats undersöker vad spelare vill uppleva i sitt karaktärsskapande iolika spel. / This paper is focused on a better understanding of what computer gameplayers want to get out of their character and the character creation. Thequestion addressed in the paper was: "What is most important for a designerto consider when designing a character-creation part of a game?" The aimwas to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the character creationprocess in order to better design the character creation part of future games. The study has been conducted with a qualitative method to illuminate thequestions in more depth. First, a qualitative interview was made, and afterthe interviews, three new questions were created, which were then postedon two Internet forums focusing on MMORPGs. The players who were themost interested in character creation and the process of this, were theplayers who sometimes engaged in role play. The players who partially orfully engaged in Player versus Player combat, had difficulties seeing anypoint in creating an identity or a unique look at all. The most importantthing that emerged from the investigation was that the designer needs toknow his audience. As a designer, you need to take into account whatplaying styles you design the game for. The important factors for theplayers to immerse themselves in their characters, was that their characterscould be made unique.

Application of PCR-DGGE method for identification of nematode communities in pepper growing soil / Ứng dụng phương pháp PCR-DGGE để định danh cộng đồng tuyến trùng trong đất trồng hồ tiêu

Nguyen, Thi Phuong, Ha, Duy Ngo, Nguyen, Huu Hung, Duong, Duc Hieu 17 August 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Soil nematodes play an important role in indication for assessing soil environments and ecosystems. Previous studies of nematode community analyses based on molecular identification have shown to be useful for assessing soil environments. Here we applied PCR-DGGE method for molecular analysis of five soil nematode communities (designed as S1 to S5) collected from four provinces in Southeastern Vietnam (Binh Duong, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai) based on SSU gene. By sequencing DNA bands derived from S5 community sample, our data show 15 species containing soil nematode, other nematode and non-nematode (fungi) species. Genus Meloidogyne was found as abundant one. The genetic relationship of soil nematode species in S5 community were determined by Maximum Likelihood tree re-construction based on SSU gene. This molecular approach is applied for the first time in Vietnam for identification of soil nematode communities.
