Hesler, Lilian Zielke January 2013 (has links)
This study carried out a research on suicide under the perspective of gender in municipalities from the south region of Brazil. The method of analysis was that of content in the thematic mode with the support of the 7. Version NVivo software. The project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and all of the recommendations and ethics aspects were observed. With respect to gender inequalities in marital relations, it has been noted, in the history of suicide men and women, the rigid performance of the traditional gender roles, the women responsible for the home tasks and family care while men were in charge of the home command and provisions for the house. Some women added yet to the overload of the house and children care, the tillage work and the economic responsibility of the family. Gender violence was present in the life history of men and women who committed suicide and such violence in the marital relations have produced consequences to health, well being and quality of life of the women who committed suicide. The suicide men performed all over the marital life, relations of power and gender violence against their spouses. Thus, it is understood that gender inequalities are a vulnerabilization factor for women and men and it must be also analyzed upon studies on suicide. In view of these results, the importance of studies and discussions on suicide under the gender perspective stands out because gender inequalities and violence contribute for autoagressive behaviors of men and women in society.

Franzoi, Neusa Maria 01 June 2007 (has links)
This study investigated gender-related violence in 12 family health staffs in Araraquara city. The objectives were to get to know and to analyze, from the gender perspective: the health professionals point of view about man and woman, the professionals´ perceptions about gender-related violence and the contradictions that exist in the professionals´ conceptions about woman, man and violence against woman. Data were collected during a workshop and the content was analyzed through two different empirical categories: \"man and woman in the same \'social boat\" and \"gender-related violence\". The more relevant themes related to the object of this study received more attention, and were included in two analytical categories: gender and gender-related violence. The results showed that the participants do not perceive gender-related violence as something that comes from the social construction of masculinity and femininity. They do have a critical view about those processes of social construction, but they still have conservative opinions about man and woman´s roles: the provider-man and the reproducer-woman; and this is in agreement with the common sense. Discussions about gender-related violence follow the same pattern: with conservative and transforming perceptions at the same time. This mixture of different positionings shows the need to broaden the professional qualifications to deal with this complex, still common, reality of domestic violence inside the territories of the Brazilian Family Health Program

"To know how to speak" : technologies of indigenous women's activism against sexual violence in Chiapas, Mexico

Newdick, Vivian Ann 03 October 2012 (has links)
Between 1994 and 2012, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) established a contested zone of exception to neoliberal governance in southern Mexico and women's-rights-as-human-rights universalism reshaped international development and activist discourse. Within this context, Ana, Beatriz, and Celia González Pérez pressed claims against a group of Mexican Federal Army soldiers for rape at a military checkpoint in 1994. A rare instance of first-person denunciation of rape warfare, the Tseltal-Maya sisters' own powerful representation of the physical and procedural violations committed against them forms the starting point of this analysis, which proceeds from there, chapter by chapter, through communal, national, and international representations. Centering the women's speech, then moving to what are conventionally understood as broader fields of discourse produces new ways of understanding violence in relation to nation, culture, and gendered sociality. Though in 2001 the human rights commission of the Organization of American States upheld the women's claims, as of this writing (2012) the Mexican state has neither awarded reparations nor prosecuted the accused. I argue here that the women's unmet demands for collective and individual justice produce a novel language of protest which I call denuncia (denouncement) rather than testimony. Denuncia, I argue, puts the physical and the social body at the center of claims against sexual violation; enacts coraje (courage, rage) rather than petitions for recognition of truth; exposes the nationalist ideology of racial mixing that informs the production of testimony in Mexico, and establishes new audiences for its own reception despite the regimes of everyday violence it foregrounds. Formulated amid military occupation, denuncia exposes the gendered intimacy--control of the food supply, inhabitation of public-private architectural spaces, colonization of local enmities--that gave rise to military rape, which I call here "domestic violence." Denuncia emerges to refute the neoliberal discourse that links indigenous culture, gender, and violence just when the material basis of indigenous livelihood is under siege. This dissertation's method would not have been possible without almost twenty years' engagement with Tseltal and Tojolabal-Maya men and women who have formed part of the Zapatista movement. This long-range perspective has engendered a form of feminist scholarly accountability that cultivates listening to ground critique on the terrain of self-determination. / text

Analyzing the discourse of judges and prosecutors in cases of rape, this study aims to check for production of gender violence at the judicial level, either because of the presence of asymmetric constructions of gender, use of control procedures for maintenance of speech power or a non effective absorption of Human Rights Gender. For that, content analysis is applied to the existing complaints and judgments in actions decided between the years 2010 to 2013, for crimes under Art. 213 of the Penal Code, where the victims were women and the offending were men, both able, without incidence of Law 11.340/2006. This research is developed aligned to the understanding of the role of social representations in the imaginary construction of the subject and their understanding of social phenomena, of gender relations as power relations and gender violence and disrespect for Human Rights. Thus, to understand the dynamics of the judicial process of this crime, revealing the subjective elements that work and power relations within it, it will be possible to ascertain the existence (or not) of other discourses coexisting with the legal discourse.

Relação da violência na gestação e o processo de abortamento: uma perspectiva da gestante / Relationship of the violence in the gestation and the abortion process: a perspective of the pregnant woman

André Guayanaz Lauriano 19 March 2009 (has links)
The study has as object the established relationships for the woman between the abortion process and the violence situations lived during the gestation. The Violence and the Abortion are characterized for they be thematic of great complexity, involving interdisciplinary subjects of gender, health, reproductive health, religion, of the social movements, of the ethics and of the human rights. In the deepen of the study object we drew the following objectives: to identify the types of violence situations during the gestation lived by the woman in abortion process; to describe the violence existence under the pregnant woman's optics in abortion process and to analyze the established relationships for the pregnant woman in abortion process and the occurrence of violence situations in the gestation. It is a qualitative research, that had as subjects 15 women with the abortion diagnosis, interned at public maternities of the city of Niterói/Rio of January. The collection of data was initiate with the search in the handbooks of the diagnosis and, later we accomplished interviews with semi-structured itinerary, which were recorded assisting the effective legislation that dispose concerning the guidelines of researches with human beings. In the analysis of the data we used the technique of Analysis of Content of Bardin. The results demonstrated that women possess a vision enlarged concerning the violence, being the gender violence and psychological the most pointed. The abortion was indicated as being one of the manifestations of the violence against the woman, so much in the spontaneous processes as induced us. That phenomenon, as well as the one of the violence, possesses determinations social, ethical, moral and religious that permeate them. When spontaneous it can be seen as a failure of the woman due to her vital capacity to be mother - generating fault and failure before companions and family, beyond, of the possibility to see as sinner and or criminal, due to the social beginning, religious and legal of the abortion as crime, carting the psychological wear. The established relationships for the women concerning the violence in the gestation and the abortion process turned basically, in the dilemmas lived in the undesired gestations; in the daily feminine of the public and private spaces, contemplated in conflicts; in the couple's work day excess; and in the violence institutional eternalized for the services of health, mainly in the search for a worthy attendance and humanized in the units of emergency.

Suicide of Elderly in Brazil and possibilities of Performance by the Health Sector.” A total of 19 psychosocial autopsies were carried out by means of interviews in depth with family members of people who committed suicide in the municipalities of Candelária, Venâncio Aires, São Lourenço do Sul and Porto Alegre, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Neusa Maria Franzoi 01 June 2007 (has links)

Violência contra o adolescente: uma análise à luz das categorias gênero e geração / Violence against adolescents: an analysis based on gender and generation categories

Rafaela Gessner 10 December 2013 (has links)
Objective: To analyze the phenomenon of violence based on gender and generation categories. The specific objectives were to understand the characteristics of violence against adolescents through reports recorded in the city of Curitiba, southern Brazil, as well as to identify, analyze profile and know the reality of violence against adolescents living in shelters. Methods: This is a descriptive study based on quantitative and qualitative methods. The scenario of the study was the Network for the Protection of Children and Adolescents at Risk for Violence and four shelters in the city. The secondary source consisted of data collection from the Network for the Protection of Children and Adolescents of this city regarding years 2010 to 2012. These data were analyzed using SPSS software 20.0. The primary data source was collected from semi- structured interviews of 16 sheltered adolescents, from 12 to 17 years of age. The interviews were taped and then submitted for content analysis. Results: Between the years 2010 and 2012 were reported 6.677 cases of violence against adolescents: 2.093 happened in 2010; 2.322 in 2011 and 2.262 in 2012. In 76.97% of these cases violence occurred at home, with a slight majority happening to the female gender (50.5%) from 10 to 14 years of age (63.95%). Neglect (58.32%) was the major form of maltreatment in the rank, followed by physical (19.22%) and sexual aggression (14.49%). The mother was the main aggressor (34.54%), however, the aggressor is altered according to the nature of the violence practiced. Most reports (50.73%) were made by the municipal health system such as hospitals and primary healthcare centers. The data allowed the expansion of knowledge on this issue in Curitiba over the analyzed period, although failures in the reporting system and quality of generated data led to limitations in this study. The qualitative outcome showed that adolescents are exposed to violence in their home and outside the home, and can be victims or viewers of violence. Fear and a sense of impotence in face of the aggressor dominate the adolescents in the violent relationship, caused by the position they hold in their gender and generation relationships. Moreover, adolescents naturalize the violence suffered, mainly physical violence, making it more difficult to stop the situation. The shelter came as an institutional resource which can aid in the process to overcome the subalternity situation of sheltered adolescents. Conclusion: More than indicate the magnitude of the issue, this study could give information to improve the assistance given to victimized people and address how to face this phenomenon, especially in health, if measures to promote gender equality and to value teenagers as citizens and as having rights in social relationships are privileged
