Pneumopathy is rare and severe, does not have a definite cause, numerous causes lead to the picture of a secondary insult. Subjective measures such as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are being increasingly used to measure the impact of Bronchiolitis Obliterans on children's lives. Currently, there is a paucity of studies that have evaluated health-related quality of life in patients with Post-Infectious Bronchiolitis Obliterating. Objective: To assess the level of agreement in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) between children with Post Infectious Bronchiolitis Obliterans (PIBOPI) and their parent (so-called proxy). Methodology: Participants aged between 8-17, which had been previously diagnosed with PIBOPI, were regularly followed up at a pediatric pulmonology outpatient clinic. Parents or legal guardians (caregivers) of these patients were also recruited for they. A validated and age-appropriate version of the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL) was used for the assessment of HRQoL. Caregivers completed the corresponding proxy versions of the questionnaire. The correlation between self and proxy reports of HRQoL was determined by intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), and dependent t-tests. Results: The majority of the participants were males (79.4%), and the average age was 11.8 years. Intra-class correlations between each of the PedsQL domains and the total score were all lower than 0.6, with a range between 0.267 (poor) and 0.530 (fair). When the means of each domain and the total score of the questionnaires were compared, caregivers were observed to score significantly lower HRQoL than children, with the exception of the social domain in which the difference was not significant. However, the differences in score exceeded the critical threshold difference of 4 points in all other domains. Conclusions: Proxys from patients with Post Infectious Bronchiolitis Obliterans tend to report lower quality of life scores than patients themselves. / Introdu??o: Bronquiolite Obliterante P?s-Infecciosa ? uma doen?a pulmonar obstrutiva cr?nica, que afeta as vias a?reas distais. M?todos: Participantes com idade entre 8-17 anos, previamente diagnosticados com BOPI, foram acompanhados regularmente em ambulat?rios especializados de pneumologia pedi?trica. Os pais ou os representantes legais (cuidadores) destes pacientes tamb?m foram recrutados para o estudo. Para avalia??o da QVRS foi aplicada a vers?o validada do instrumento Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQl). Os cuidadores responderam a vers?o correspondente do question?rio para o Proxy. A correla??o dos relatos da QVRS entre as crian?as e seus Proxy foi determinado mediante o coeficiente de correla??o intraclasse (CCI) e teste t para a amostras independentes. Resultados: A maioria dos participantes era do sexo masculino, (79,4%), a m?dia de idade foi de 11,8 anos. Os CCI entre cada um dos dom?nios do PedsQL, bem como o escore total foram inferiores a 0,6, variando entre 0,267 (pobre) e 0,530 (satisfat?ria). As m?dias dos dom?nios e do escore total dos question?rios respondidos pelos pacientes e aquelas relatadas pelos respons?veis comparadas demonstraram que o escore dos cuidadores foi significativamente menor do que o das crian?as, com exce??o apenas para o dom?nio social, cuja diferen?a n?o foi significativa. Todavia, as diferen?as ultrapassaram a diferen?a m?nima importante de 4 pontos no escore para todos os dom?nios. Conclus?o: Os Proxys dos pacientes com Bronquiolite Obliternante P?s-infecciosa tendem a relatar menores escores de qualidade de vida que os pr?prios pacientes.

It was decided to sample two municipalities with different protection organizations, because, within the scope of SUAS, the requests of the violations arising from the rights violations must be performed by the Specialized Protection and Welfare Service for Families and Individuals (PAEFI), having as a locus the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS). However, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, only 24% of the municipalities have this socio-welfare equipment. Since sexual abuse is a historical, multicausal phenomenon occurring in all societies, there is a need to think about victim care independently of the organizational structure of the municipalities. In this sense, this study sought to contribute to the discussion of how to fight such phenomenon in the face of the complexity of the theme and of society. As specific objectives, we sought to analyze the national and state plan for children and adolescents victims of sexual violence; mapping the municipal service network, as well as identifying the violence committed against the victims who access the care network in the surveyed cities, in order to problematize the limits and possibilities of care for children and adolescents in situations of sexual abuse in the social welfare area. Considering the given objectives, we chose qualitative research, in which we sought to know: the specificities of sexual abuse against children and adolescents, the perception of the subjects interviewed about the phenomenon, as well as the advances, challenges and possibilities for the effectiveness of the integrality of the service to the sexually victimized children and adolescents. For the collection of data, six semi-structured interviews were carried out, using forms, technical reference teams of social welfare services (social workers and psychologists), and the municipal managers of the policy. After the interviews, the data were transcribed and analyzed, using content analysis as methodology. Complementing the systematization of empirical research, the study of the legislation, thematic plans and authors with theoretical relevance was carried out with regard to the Social Welfare Policy and the phenomenon in question. As a result of the research, we highlight the need for budget allocation for actions to prevent and respond to sexual violence against children and adolescents. There is a need to expand the teams of the protection network, predict resources for the execution of actions and, especially, offer permanent education for professionals who act directly with the demands of violence. It emphasizes in this study, stand out the facilities and difficulties in articulation with the protection network, as well as the strategies used for the accomplishment of the consultations in the social welfare services. / A presente disserta??o de mestrado tem como objetivo geral analisar como se configuram as concep??es de viol?ncia sexual, interven??es profissionais e fluxo de atendimento ?s crian?as e adolescentes v?timas de abuso sexual, em munic?pios com apenas a Prote??o Social B?sica institu?da e em munic?pios com a Prote??o Social B?sica e Prote??o Social Especial institu?das. Optou-se, como amostra, por dois munic?pios com organiza??o de prote??es diferentes, pois, no ?mbito do SUAS, os atendimentos das demandas advindas das viola??es de direitos devem ser executados pelo Servi?o de Prote??o e Atendimento Especializado a Fam?lias e Indiv?duos (PAEFI), tendo como l?cus o Centro de Refer?ncia Especializado de Assist?ncia Social (CREAS). No entanto, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul apenas 24% dos munic?pios disp?em desse equipamento socioassistencial. Quanto ao m?todo de pesquisa, optou-se pela vertente qualitativa, buscando-se conhecer: as especificidades do abuso sexual contra crian?as e adolescentes; a percep??o dos sujeitos entrevistados sobre o fen?meno; e os avan?os, desafios e possibilidades para a efetiva??o da integralidade do atendimento ?s crian?as e adolescentes vitimizados sexualmente. A coleta de dados contou com seis entrevistas semiestruturadas, utilizando-se formul?rios, realizadas com as/os equipes t?cnicas de refer?ncia dos servi?os socioassistenciais (assistentes sociais e psic?logas), e com as/os gestoras/es municipais da referida pol?tica. Para a an?lise dos dados obtidos utilizou-se, como metodologia, a an?lise de conte?do. Complementando ? sistematiza??o da pesquisa emp?rica, realizou-se o estudo das legisla??es, planos tem?ticos e autores com relev?ncia te?rica no que se refere ? Pol?tica de Assist?ncia Social e ao fen?meno em quest?o. Como resultados da pesquisa destaca-se a necessidade de: destina??o or?ament?ria para as a??es de preven??o e atendimento ? viol?ncia sexual contra crian?as e adolescentes; amplia??o das equipes da rede de prote??o, previs?o de recursos para as execu??es das a??es e, principalmente, oferta de educa??o permanente para as/os profissionais que atuam diretamente com as demandas de viol?ncias. The Agricultural Educational Institution is about one hundred years old. The expression frequently found in the studied documents, inspires the thesis title. This expression submits deeper bureaucratic process around the selection and inclusion of the students. I tried to investigate in that documents, the voices that, in dialogue with the public power, was documented in the official agencies, with the intention to answer "Who were the students and what were they searching for?" This investigation had an anthropologic way, focused in the individual who was object standarly of government intervention - the poor children and their families. Over those people concerned conceptions, practices, regulations, decisions and rules that not depended on their will, and is about this dynamic that this research pondered, an ethnography the routine lived by boys and girls that found the Visconde da Gra?a Educational Institution. Stablished with the Agricultural Patronage Visconde da Gra?a in the 1920s decade. Nowadays, the Institution works and has boarding school vacancy for young people who wants to live in, but notice the profile stablished to entrance is needed, the first of all, those poorest children as the beginning. Long years go by and the Institution has been going throughout changes as its name, in accordance with government and then changed the working dynamics, and as in the boarding school. Besides the changes in the Educational Institution, this investigation approachs the boarding school as the study object, with the aim of relativize it. Studying the intern dynamics and particularities of boarding school practice in the context of an agricultural Educational Institution, was the way to realize others aspects that could introduce the boarding school over the poverty, of the abandonment and the vulnerability. Without however to leave the perspective that notice the boarding school with the antique strategy and with extensively used for state agents to solve the problem of poor children and their families. / ?Nestes termos, pede deferimento? ? um estudo etnogr?fico-documental das pr?ticas de interven??es sobre crian?as pobres, tomando como ponto de partida o acervo de documentos relativos a uma institui??o de ensino agr?cola na cidade de Pelotas / RS, com quase cem anos de exist?ncia. A express?o, frequentemente encontrada nos documentos estudados, al?m de inspirar o t?tulo da tese, foi reveladora de aspectos mais profundos que cercaram as din?micas burocr?ticas de sele??o e inclus?o. Procurei investigar, nesses documentos, as vozes que, em interlocu??o com o Estado, ficaram registradas nos ?rg?os oficiais, com a inten??o de responder ?quem foram os alunos e o que buscavam??. Este estudo teve uma abordagem antropol?gica, focando sobre aqueles sujeitos que foram tradicionalmente objeto de interven??o estatal ? as crian?as pobres e suas fam?lias. Sobre esses sujeitos, incidiram concep??es, pr?ticas, estatutos, medidas, regulamentos que independiam de sua vontade, e ? sobre tais din?micas que este estudo se debru?ou, procurando etnografar o cotidiano vivido por meninos e meninas que recorreram ao Visconde da Gra?a. Fundada como Patronato Agr?cola Visconde da Gra?a na d?cada de 1920, a institui??o, ainda em funcionamento, mant?m a oferta do internato para jovens que nela desejarem permanecer, desde que observado o perfil estipulado para ingresso, priorizando, tal como em sua funda??o, aqueles mais pobres. Ao longo dos anos, a institui??o passou por diferentes transforma??es em sua nomenclatura, de acordo com as pol?ticas estatais e, viu alteradas suas din?micas de funcionamento, dentre as quais o internato se insere. Mais que apresentar as transforma??es da? decorrentes, esta investiga??o tomou a pr?tica de internamento como objeto de estudo, com a inten??o de relativiz?-la. Observar as din?micas internas e particularidades da pr?tica de internamento, no contexto de uma institui??o agr?cola, foi o caminho que permitiu perceber outros aspectos que justificaram/justificam o internamento, al?m da pobreza, do abandono e da vulnerabilidade, sem contudo, deixar de lado a perspectiva que coloca o internamento como estrat?gia antiga e amplamente utilizada pelos agentes estatais para lidar com o problema das crian?as pobres e suas fam?lias.

Agressividade e depress?o em escolares

The first study is a systematic review of the literature, untitled Aggressiveness and Depression Expressions in Children and Adolescents: Systematic Review, whose objectives are: a) perform a systematic review of the literature about aggressiveness in children and adolescents assessed by the Children Behavior Checklist (CBCL); b) perform a systematic review of the literature about depression in children and adolescents assessed by the CBCL; c) to assess how aggression and depression manifest themselves in childhood and adolescence. Were used descriptors and criteria for inclusion and exclusion in pre-defined searches in the databases MedLine, Embase, PsycInfo, Lilacs, SCielo and BVS for the two systematic reviews performed considering specific descriptors for aggressiveness and depression, used in separate searches. It was found that children and adolescents manifest aggressiveness and depression in different ways according to sex and age around the world. The second study, untitled Age and Gender Differences in Aggressiveness and Depression in Schoolchildren aimed to analyze relationships existents between aggressiveness, anxiety-depression, withdrawn-depression, sex and age and to characterize the sample, which consists of schoolchildren protocols CBCL answered by parents. The results identified boys with significantly higher T scores than girls on the three subscales studied in CBCL. Was identified moderate positive association between aggressiveness, anxiety-depression and withdrawn-depression. Lastly, the manifestation of aggressiveness could be covering the depression more than half of the time. / A presente disserta??o de Mestrado ? composta por dois estudos, seguindo as normas do programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Psicologia da PUCRS. O primeiro estudo ? uma revis?o sistem?tica de literatura intitulada Manifesta??es da Agressividade e depress?o em crian?as e adolescentes: revis?o sistem?tica, cujos objetivos s?o: a) realizar revis?o sistem?tica da literatura sobre a tem?tica da agressividade em crian?as e adolescentes avaliados pelo Children Behavior Checklist (CBCL); b) realizar revis?o sistem?tica da literatura sobre a tem?tica da depress?o em crian?as e adolescentes avaliados pelo CBCL; c) avaliar como a agressividade e depress?o se manifestam na inf?ncia e adolesc?ncia. Identificou-se que crian?as e adolescentes manifestam agressividade e depress?o de diferentes formas quanto ao sexo e idade, em diferentes regi?es do mundo. O segundo estudo, intitulado Diferen?as de G?nero e Idade na Agressividade e Depress?o em Escolares objetivou analisar rela??es existentes entre agressividade, ansiedade-depress?o, retraimento-depress?o, sexo e idade e caracterizar a amostra, que ? composta por protocolos CBCL de escolares respondidos por pais e m?es. Os resultados identificaram meninos com escores T significativamente mais elevados que meninas nas tr?s subescalas estudadas do CBCL. Identificou-se associa??o moderada positiva entre a agressividade, ansiedade-depress?o e retraimento-depress?o. Por fim, a manifesta??o de agressividade pode estar encobrindo depress?o em mais da metade das vezes.

Viol?ncia infantil : evid?ncias em crimes sexuais contra crian?as

This dissertation addresses sexual violence against minors, through the presentation of two studies. The first study presents the characteristics of sexual abuse allegations involving 117 children under this type of crime. Was performed documentary research and retrospective information contained in expert reports, having been raised the characteristics of the alleged victims, notifyers and suspects. Were also analyzed the steps between reporting the facts and the offering of the complaint by the Minist?rio P?blico and/or court decision at first instance. The results of this study showed that the alleged victims were predominantly female and that the abuse was intrafamilial in most cases, being the mother the main accuser. The physical expertise showed absence of physical traces in most of the analyzed cases. The psychic expertise was performed on 45 children, occurring in two stages: the investigative interview and the clinical evaluation. In most cases there was a revelation of an abusive situation by the alleged victims and were also identified signs of psychological distress. The follow up processes showed the predominance of cases filed in Promotoria C?vel due to the protection of the child by their own family or by measures of overthrow of family power. About a third of the cases reported by Promotoria Criminal showed a judicial outcome in the first instance. It was observed that the authorities have used various evidences inserted in the context of the criminal event to base their decisions on the analysis of sexual offenses against children. Considering the complexity of these crimes, the second study presents a survey on the opinion of the authorities regarding the criteria for the assessment of evidence on the investigative and procedural phases. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, nine of the investigative phase (Police Marshal) and nine on the procedural stage (five Prosecutors and four Judges with experience in the area of Children and Youth). The authorities expressed their opinion on the analysis of the following evidence: the word of the victim, the physical traces, other evidence (witnesses, school reports, reports of health and psychosocial) and the confession of the suspect. Most participants mentioned that the absence of witnesses, the limitation of physical evidence and the secrecy surrounding the intrafamily abuse are difficulties in assessing these crimes. These difficulties cause delays in the final outcome of cases, prolonging the psychological distress of the victims, family members and technical staff involved in the investigation, complaint and judicial decision. However, the interviewees felt that progress have been made in order to preserve the main evidence in sexual abuse: the word of the victim. It was observed in these studies, the knowledge of the peculiarities of child sexual abuse, standardization of procedures and scientific advancement regarding the collection of evidence are required for full protection of the victims of these types of crimes to actually occur. / O abuso sexual infantil apresenta caracter?sticas pr?prias e sua avalia??o por parte das autoridades torna-se complexa, devido a m?ltiplos fatores, tais como a aus?ncia de testemunhas e a limita??o de vest?gios f?sicos. A presente disserta??o aborda a viol?ncia sexual contra menores, atrav?s da apresenta??o de dois estudos. O primeiro estudo apresenta as caracter?sticas do abuso sexual envolvendo 117 crian?as com alega??es deste tipo de crime. Foi realizada uma pesquisa documental e retrospectiva de informa??es contidas em laudos periciais, tendo sido levantadas as caracter?sticas das supostas v?timas, notificadores e suspeitos. Os resultados deste estudo mostraram que as supostas v?timas eram predominantemente do sexo feminino e que o abuso foi intrafamiliar na maioria dos casos, sendo a figura materna a principal denunciante. A per?cia f?sica apresentou aus?ncia de vest?gios f?sicos na maioria dos casos analisados. A per?cia ps?quica foi realizada por 45 crian?as, ocorrendo em duas etapas: a entrevista investigativa e a avalia??o cl?nica. Na maioria dos casos houve a revela??o de uma situa??o abusiva pelas supostas v?timas e tamb?m foram identificados sinais de sofrimento ps?quico. O acompanhamento dos processos mostrou a predomin?ncia de casos arquivados na Promotoria C?vel devido ? prote??o da crian?a pela pr?pria fam?lia ou por medidas de destitui??o do poder familiar. Cerca de um ter?o dos casos denunciados pela Promotoria Criminal apresentaram um desfecho judicial em primeira inst?ncia. Observou-se que as autoridades utilizaram diversos elementos probat?rios inseridos no contexto do evento delituoso para embasar suas decis?es na an?lise dos crimes sexuais contra crian?as. Considerando a complexidade destes crimes, o segundo estudo apresenta um levantamento da opini?o das autoridades a respeito dos crit?rios de avalia??o das evid?ncias nas fases investigativa e processual. Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-dirigidas com 18 participantes, sendo nove da fase investigativa (Delegados de Pol?cia) e nove da fase processual (cinco Promotores de Justi?a e quatro Ju?zes de Direito com atua??o na ?rea da Inf?ncia e Juventude). As autoridades manifestaram suas opini?es sobre a an?lise das seguintes evid?ncias: a palavra da v?tima, os vest?gios f?sicos, outros elementos probat?rios (testemunhas, pareceres escolares, relat?rios de profissionais da sa?de e psicossociais) e a confiss?o do suspeito. A maioria dos participantes mencionou que a aus?ncia de testemunhas, a limita??o de provas f?sicas e o segredo que envolve o abuso intrafamiliar s?o dificuldades encontradas na avalia??o destes crimes. Estas dificuldades causam morosidade no desfecho final dos casos, prolongando o sofrimento ps?quico das v?timas, familiares e equipes t?cnicas envolvidas na investiga??o, den?ncia e decis?o judicial. Entretanto, os entrevistados consideraram que houve avan?os na forma de preservar a principal evid?ncia no abuso sexual: a palavra da v?tima. Observou-se, nestes estudos, que o conhecimento das particularidades do abuso sexual infantil, a padroniza??o de procedimentos e o avan?o cient?fico quanto ? coleta de evid?ncias s?o necess?rios para que efetivamente ocorra a prote??o integral das v?timas destes tipos de crimes.

Thus aims to review the implementation of the Programa Sentinela in Natal / RN, in the period 2001 to 2006, verifying that the program has contributed to the access of children and adolescents who are victims of abuse and sexual exploitation to fundamental rights under the Statute Children and adolescents (ECA) and the Local Plan and the National gainst Infanto-Youth Sexual Violence. It has a theoretical and methodological approach quantitative and qualitative, covering the issue of sexual violence against children and adolescents, as one of the expressions of economic relationships, gender, race and culture that make up the material and symbolic structure of society. It methodological procedure: review of literature on the subject and conducting interviews with professionals and families of children and adolescent victims of sexual violence. Investigate as the unit of analysis the Sentinel Program. The analysis on the governmental actions of this period on this social problem points to the continuity and little change in the care of victims of sexual violence: despite maintain features and palliative assistencialistas, favoring the "Network of Sexual Tourism", go through some innovations in terms of securing rights from the ECA, which is the need for transparency and democratization in the management of government policies. Para al?m do fen?meno que se apresenta no imediato, a viol?ncia estrutural aparece como outra express?o da viol?ncia cometida contra crian?as e adolescentes. / The present work seeks to problematize the performance of agencies that make up the System for Guaranteeing the Rights of Children and Adolescents (SGD), in the accomplishment of coping with the occurrences of violence in the municipality of Natal. In order to do so, the objective was to analyze how violence against children and adolescents in Natal / RN has been tackled, particularizing the strategies and mechanisms used by the DGS protection agencies, in the period from 2014 to 2015, in order to identify the limits And possibilities that interfere and / or contribute to the accomplishment of this confrontation in the municipality. The research was conducted through qualitative research and was guided by the critical dialectical referential, and the data collection was done through documentary and field research in the quantitative-qualitative perspective. The focus of the research was the Protection Network that operates in the Northern Administrative Region of Natal. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with: the Guardianship Council, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents, the Specialized Referral Center for Social Assistance, The Family Health Support Center and a Municipal School. The data were treated based on content analysis and analyzed in the light of the adopted theoretical framework. It was identified that three dimensions are essential to face the phenomenon: care, monitoring and prevention. However, determinants of cultural, social, political and economic order contribute to the occurrence and recurrence of situations of violence and interfere in the accomplishment of the confrontation. The family appears as an institution which, contradictorily, attributes authority and duty to protection. In addition to the phenomenon that occurs immediately, structural violence appears as another expression of violence committed against children and adolescents.

No entanto, h? poucas evid?ncias sobre a influ?ncia de problemas bucais no bem-estar biopsicossocial de pr?-escolares e suas fam?lias, sobretudo comparando aqueles que vivem em zonas urbanas e rurais. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os fatores determinantes da qualidade de vida relacionada ? sa?de bucal (OHRQoL) de crian?as pr?-escolares e suas fam?lias residentes em zona urbana e em zonas rurais de extrema pobreza. Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 391 crian?as, entre dois e cinco anos de idade, das zonas urbana e rural de Diamantina/MG, selecionadas aleatoriamente durante a Campanha Nacional de Vacina??o Infantil. Os pais das crian?as responderam ? vers?o brasileira do Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) e forneceram dados socioecon?micos. Exames cl?nicos das crian?as foram realizados para avaliar c?rie dent?ria, defeitos de desenvolvimento de esmalte, fluorose dent?ria, les?es ou varia??es de normalidade da mucosa bucal e m? oclus?o. An?lise estat?stica envolveu an?lise descritiva, teste de Mann-Whitney, teste do qui-quadrado e regress?o linear m?ltipla. O n?vel de signific?ncia estabelecido foi de 5%. Os valores m?dios do ECOHIS para cada condi??o bucal avaliada foram: c?rie dent?ria 4.52 (DP=6.84), defeitos de desenvolvimento de esmalte 3,82 (DP=6,86), fluorose dent?ria 4,56 (DP=7,53), les?es ou varia??es da normalidade da mucosa bucal 2,84 (DP=5,46) e m? oclus?o 2,16 (DP=4,56). Diferen?as significativas foram encontradas entre o local de resid?ncia e: g?nero (P = 0,008), n?mero de filhos (P = 0,001) e defeitos de desenvolvimento de esmalte (P = 0,035). Fam?lias da zona rural apresentaram valores significativamente inferiores nos aspectos socioecon?micos (P < 0,005), quando comparadas ? fam?lias da zona urbana. Na zona urbana, foram encontradas associa??es significativas entre impacto na OHRQoL e: idade da crian?a em meses (P = 0,004), g?nero (feminino) (P = 0,034), n?mero de dentes cavitados (P < 0,001) e presen?a de defeitos de desenvolvimento de esmalte (P = 0,004). Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Odontologia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2011. / ABSTRACT Poor oral health can affect aspects of children's daily lives, such as the ability to chew, sleep, school performance, social interaction, self-esteem as well as weight and growth. However, there is little evidence about the influence of oral health problems on biopsychosocial well-being of preschool children and their families, especially comparing those living in urban and rural areas. The aim of this study was to assess the determinants of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of preschool children and their families living in urban and rural areas of extreme poverty. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 391 children between two and five years of age, from urban and rural areas in Diamantina/MG randomly selected during the National Immunization Campaign. The children's parents answered the Brazilian version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) and provided socioeconomic data. Clinical examination of the children was conducted to assess dental caries, developmental defects of enamel, dental fluorosis, injury or damage to the oral mucosa and malocclusion. Statistical analysis involved descriptive analysis, Mann-Whitney test, chi-square test and multiple linear regression. Significance level was set at 5%. The mean ECOHIS total scores for each oral condition were: dental caries 4.52 (SD = 6.84), developmental defects of enamel, 3.82 (SD = 6.86), dental fluorosis 4:56 (SD = 7.53), injury or oral mucosa lesions 2.84 (SD = 5.46) and malocclusion 2.16 (SD = 4.56). Significant differences were found between place of residence and: gender (P = 0.008), number of children (P = 0.001) and developmental defects of enamel (P = 0.035). Families from rural area had significantly lower socioeconomic aspects (P <0.005), when compared to families from urban area. In urban areas, significant associations were found between the impact on OHRQoL and children's age in months (P = 0.004), gender (female) (P = 0.034), number of cavitated teeth (P <0.001) and presence of developmental defects of enamel (P = 0.004). In rural areas significant association was found only between the impact on OHRQoL and the number of cavitated teeth (P <0.001). Oral health problems such as dental caries and developmental defects of enamel negatively affected the quality of life of preschool children and their families. In the urban area, number of cavitated teeth, developmental defects of enamel, in addition to age and gender contributed to decreased quality of life of preschool children and their families. In rural areas, only the number of cavitated teeth impaired significantly the daily lives of preschool children and their families.

It aimed to research the difficulties lived by teachers of a public elementary school during the specific task of evaluating children in the alphabetization process. This qualitative research took place as a case study at Em?lia Ramos Municipal School, in Natal, capital city of Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil. Semi-structured interview and questionnaire were used as fact-gathering proceedings. Two pedagogical advisers and seven teachers formed the group of research subjects. All of them worked with elementary school first cycle classes, in that school, in the year of 2003. The analysis shows that teachers difficulties concern to theoretic questions of conceptual and methodological orders, although these questions indicate an important knowledge of teachers about alphabetization and evaluation. Our reflection about these problems articulates two points: alphabetization and evaluation. Concerning alphabetization, we took reference on Psychogenetic studies of Ferreiro and Teberosky (1985) which emphasizes fundamental points for a coherent evaluation practice: a) objective knowledge is not a beginning data; it is a construction process, which the learner does not conquest step by step on a linear way; b) objective knowledge acquisition happens through a global re-construction, and some of them may seem mistakes if we consider conventional writing but these mistakes are constructive and necessary. We also took reference on Interactionist-constructivist theory. Here, Vygotsky (1984) proposes that writing must be specially understood as language, symbolical activity, cultural practice. So, acquisition of writing process, as language learning, must be understood as a development of abilities relative to symbolical and communicative activity of sense production. On this way, Hoffmann (1994) advises that is necessary to overtake current evaluation practices, limited by their terminality character, only pointing right or wrong questions. According to a new paradigm, valuation appears as one of the mediations by which teachers must indicate re-ordination of pupil s knowledge, and re-organize their own practices too. The comprehensions of these questions plays decisive part in order to overtake our difficulties in evaluating. Besides, it points a way to build a coherent valuate practice, with an emancipating character and able to create new teaching-and-learning situations, leading to a better alphabetization Pedagogy / Nosso trabalho se insere no contexto da avalia??o no processo de alfabetiza??o, como um momento do ciclo da a??o educacional que envolve o planejamento, o ensino e a aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita. Nesse sentido, o estudo objetivou investigar, junto a professores da escola p?blica do ensino fundamental, as dificuldades vivenciadas por eles, no trabalho docente espec?fico de avaliar crian?as em processo de alfabetiza??o. Como parte da abordagem qualitativa, a pesquisa se desenvolveu atrav?s de um estudo de caso na Escola Municipal Professora Em?lia Ramos, em Natal/RN. Como procedimento de coleta dos dados, utilizamos a entrevista semi-diretiva e o question?rio. Foram sujeitos da pesquisa duas coordenadoras pedag?gicas e sete professores que atuavam no 1? ciclo do ensino fundamental daquela escola, no ano de 2003. A an?lise dos dados nos permite destacar que as dificuldades docentes envolvem quest?es te?ricas de ordem conceitual e metodol?gica, embora essas quest?es j? evidenciem um significativo conhecimento do professor acerca da alfabetiza??o e da avalia??o. A reflex?o aqui desenvolvida se articula em dois eixos: o da alfabetiza??o e o da avalia??o. No tocante ? alfabetiza??o, tomamos como refer?ncia os estudos psicogen?ticos de Ferreiro e Teberosky (1985), quando ressaltam pontos fundamentais para uma pr?tica coerente na avalia??o de alfabetizandos: a) o conhecimento objetivo n?o ? um dado inicial, mas uma aquisi??o processual, da qual o aprendiz n?o se aproxima passo a passo, de forma linear; b) a aquisi??o do conhecimento objetivo acontece atrav?s de reconstru??es globais, algumas das quais 'err?neas' no que se refere ? escrita convencional, por?m construtivas e necess?rias. Igualmente, consideramos a perspectiva interacionista-construtivista, onde Vygotsky (1984) ressalta que a escrita deve ser priorizada enquanto linguagem, ou seja, atividade simb?lica, pr?tica cultural. Assim sendo, a aquisi??o da escrita, enquanto aprendizagem de uma linguagem, ? concebida como desenvolvimento de habilidades relativas ? atividade simb?lico-comunicativa de produ??o de sentidos. Nesse sentido, enfatiza Hoffmann (1994) que ? preciso superar a pr?tica atual de avalia??o quanto ao seu car?ter de terminalidade e constata??o de erros e acertos.
