Caim e Abel: uma leitura de \'Improbus Amor\', de Frederico José Correia, como processo de singularização da personagem judia Abel / Cain and Abel: a reading of \'Improbus Love\', of José Frederico Correia, as the process of singling of character jewish AbelDaniel Santana de Jesus 17 September 2008 (has links)
Acquiring a sensitive taste for the appreciation of realitys gloomy elements dates back to the mid 18th century in Europe. The dissemination of this new sensitivity in Brazil can be studied in our second generation Romanticism led by young poets such as Álvares de Azevedo, Bernardo Guimarães, and Fagundes Varela. Among the poems in the work Inspirações Poéticas (Poetical Inspirations) by the romantic poet Frederico José Correia, there is a series of texts characterized by a gloomy content. One of them is Improbus amor, a forbidden passion story between Abel and his sister Elisa. The aim of this dissertation is to study a series of gloomy elements which are found in this poem, for instance, misanthropy, sadomasochism, incestuous passion, and Jewish condition seen as a curse. Methodologically, it is deemed most feasible to study these elements as an essential part of the romantic hero Abels gloomy figure. The character analysis is divided in three parts. In the first part, Abels hypersensibility is examined. In the second and third part, we have studied the function of Judaism in its pathos and tragic destiny. In these two latter sections, we have considered Abels rebellion against Christian society which discriminated him for the fatality role of his destiny while being an element of a group seen in possession of a cursed heritage. Against all expectations, the analysis has revealed that hypersensibility, and not Abels proscribed Judaism, was the determining element of this romantic heros constitution. The predominance of a greater idiosyncratic aspect over the other aspect mostly determined by the outside world in the analysis of Abel can be considered as a mark of Romanticisms major subjectivism appreciation.

In this dissertation, entitled Walkies of a knight to the South, elaborated from the lectures of the romance The almost en of the world and from the textual study and analysis, we decided to discuss the hero figure, the action and attitudes caused by/from the personage position through the difficult provoked by an event, in this case the death of the living in the planet, caused by a scientific experience made/done by a religious group, named the Freedon´s Champions. We noticed that the discussions about identity, ethics and the construction of a society model that is obsolete, when in consider this real presented, goes through, necessarily, and ethic’s process. / The entry of Gianrico Carofiglio on the literary scene in 2002 allowed the affirmation of a genre that until then seemed the preserve of the American production.
Mitologie dek Campbell se boek The hero with a thousand faces en Vogler se boek The writer’s journey. ABSTRACT (English) The objective of the research is the creation of an extensive checklist for writing and evaluating screenplays. The research covers all traditional commercial genres within motion picture drama, with the exception of comedy. To create the checklist, an attempt was made to identify the sum total of techniques within the discipline of drama scriptwriting. Seven inventories were compiles, namely: existing checklists; genre characteristics; and scriptwriting techniques for structure; plot, emotion; characters; and dialogue&diverse. Information for the thesis was obtained from qualitative research that is both descriptive and prescriptive. The layout and content are as follows: • orientation of the subject; • context and relevance of the research; • theoretical basis, for example type of research, assumptions and definitions; • formulation of the research problem; • explanation of the methodology; • steps in the creation of the master checklist; • style and presentation; and • overview of the research. Chapter 2: Theoretical foundation is an overview of the fundamental literature study. Under Primary theories Anderson and Anderson’s theory on how viewers perceive a motion picture is described as well as Gerrig and Prentice’s theory on the subjective participation of viewers in, and emotional reaction to, motion picture stories. Secondary theories look at the following: Psychology explains Freud’s theories on human behaviour, as well as short theories on human attitudes, identification with people, the characteristics of emotion and the power, characteristics and functions of leaders. Communication science covers the behaviour of leaders, decision-making in small groups and the communication of public values in communities. Empathy in fiction motion pictures explains Neill’s prerequisites for empathy with motion picture characters. Mythology covers Campbell’s book The hero with a thousand faces and Vogler’s book The writer’s journey. Scriptwriting theory explains the classical dramatic structure, the two-goal structure and the nine-act structure. Inventory of checklists documents all checklists from Freeburg (1920) to Human (2003) and also lists three documents used by American motion picture companies to evaluate scripts. Inventory of genre characteristics documents characteristics for plot, structure and character of all commercial genres, excluding comedy. Chapter 3: Inventory of structural techniques list all the writing techniques that are applicable to structure. It contains 27 sections with headings such as Structural types, The hero’s journey, and Climax&main climax. Chapter 4: Inventory of plot and emotion techniques list all the writing techniques that are applicable to plot. It contains 90 sections with headings such as Exposition: general, Confrontation and Denouement/epilogue/end. Chapter 5: Inventory of character techniques list all the writing techniques that is applicable to character. It contains 80 sections with headings such as Effective motion picture characters. Type of characters and Character change/development. Chapter 6: Inventory of dialogue and diverse techniques list all the writing techniques that are applicable to dialogue and diverse elements. It contains 46 sections with headings such as Effective dialogue, Subtext and Budget. Chapter 7: The master checklist contains the primary research output, namely an extensive checklist of 5 550 questions. It is a flexible instrument that leads the script reader or scriptwriter through all known variables in a story. This was compiles from information in chapters two to six. It consists of five macro checklists: structure, plot, emotion, characters and dialogue, each consisting of a number of micro checklists. Chapter 8: Conclusion evaluates the answers to the research questions, discuss possible shortcomings in the research and makes recommendations for further research. Lastly follow the bibliography and addenda. / Thesis (DLitt)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Afrikaans / unrestricted

Spiral Fluted Columns and the Mechanical Screw: The History of a Mathematical Idea in Ancient Architecture and Mechanical TechnologyHenderson, Georgina Jane 03 September 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the stone-carved architectural spiral fluted column from second-millennium B.C. Mesopotamia to the fourth-century A.D. Roman Empire, and establishes its relationship to technological devices such as water screws, screw presses, and other machines. Evidence from literary sources and archaeological records shows the increasing architectural use of the helical spiral during that time, particularly in structures such as theatres, nymphaea, colonnades and decorative gateways. The use of spiral designs on coins, sarcophagi, pottery and wall paintings is also discussed.
The thesis presents: the mathematics of the spiral as applied in Mesopotamian architecture; spiral use in the Aegean Bronze and Iron Ages and the Greek and Roman worlds; and its use in technology and mechanical devices, specifically those of Archimedes and Hero. The conclusion summarises the evidence, demonstrating that the construction of the spiral fluted column evolved from that of the Archimedean water screw. / Graduate / 2018-08-20 / 0324 / 0346 / 0579 / ghenders@uvic.ca

Narrations héroïques : des inventions romanesques du XVIIe siècle aux récits factuels du XVIIIe (1630-1760) : principes de composition, écriture et réécriture de la vie de Philippe de Macédoine, d’Épaminondas de Thèbes et de Scipion l’Africain / Heroic narrations : from the 17th century Romanesque inventions to the 18th century factual Tales (1630-1760) : principles of composition, writing and re-writing of the Lifes of Philip of Macedonia, Epaminondas of Thebes and Scipio AfricanusKokkomelis, Nicolas 31 January 2015 (has links)
The present work explores a corpus of texts that has been very little studied. The generic and chronological heterogeneity of these texts being evident, the objective of this study is to go further than the mere formal differences and to focus on the interferences between the two prominent narrative genres of the 17th and 18th centuries: on the one hand, the novel and on the on the other, history as a constituent element of the codification of the subgenre of Lifes. For the accomplishment of this task, the analytical auxiliaries of Romanesque writing theory and historiography are simultaneously mobilised, in some cases overlapping each other. Hence, instead of a thematic study, philological or historico-biographical, the analysis followed consists in a parallel study of the two narrative genres, of their composition principles and their relations with the ancient writing tradition. For, most probably, what is homogeneous in these texts derives essentially, from their Greco-Roman ascendance, and more precisely from their attachment to a “traditional” and “heroic” vision of the world – from which their qualification as “heroic narratives” is finally derived. Self-sufficient as far as the semantic and symbolic levels are concerned, the texts studied here present heroes who obey to a vision of a world based on the idea of their ontological heroism. This is the reason why even though the tales of Philip, Epaminondas and Scipio do not set the same objectives, the heroes nevertheless do fulfil the same functions.

Medializace problematických období v životě známých sportovců a jejich reflexe / Medialization of problematic periods in the life of well-known athletes and their reflectionKozlovská, Tereza January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis called "Medialization of problematic periods in the life of well-known athletes and their reflection on these periods" examines media coverage of selected athletes in the Czech environment with the method of qualitative analysis used on stories from two printed nationwide newspapers and their online versions. The research is supported by e-interviews with the athletes that provide their view on their portrayal. The aim of this thesis is to provide a deeper insight into the issue and to find out how problematic periods of athletes' careers are presented and how these athletes reflect on it. Research showed that throughout their problematic times, the media had been portraying selected athletes in both positive and negative ways, although their image was constantly filled with superlatives reflecting their achievements. Portrayals of problematic periods were congruent across selected media, which athletes themselves confirmed. At the end of the defined periods, or in later time, all selected athletes regained their media status of a hero or even a national hero. Interestingly, athletes did not care much about their public image, moreover, they often tried to completely free themselves from any influence of the media avoiding any possible negative repercussions. In addition, the...

The best man can be / Archetype of hero and masculinities in Gillette, We believe. The best man can beGutierrez Belleza, Marco Eddu 29 November 2019 (has links)
The best man can be como discurso publicitario arquetípico. / This article investigates the archetype of the hero and masculinities in advertising. The project focuses on validating: 1) the possibility of change in heteronormative attitudes in male students of the faculties of Humanities, Engineering and Arts of UNMSM, UNAC and ENSAD. 2) The resistance to change of this target against an equal gender discourse. The Gillette case is used: We believe. The best man can be as an archetypal advertising speech. Based on a non-representative sample (n = 297), low statistical variability is shown in the general average. However, there are changes of greater solidity in specific variables such as the role of family gender and male body expression. The existence of attitudinal change in the sample is suggested, but rejection of persuasion and contradiction in the gender equality dimension is visualized. / Tesis

From Byronic to Gothic Blood Sucker: Subversion toward a Non-Gendered IdentityHoover, Hannah 01 May 2021 (has links)
Analyzing Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights and linking trends of the Byronic hero that have merged into a variety of genres reveal that the hero is a mode of subversive gender expression, which has evolved within the Gothic through feminine desire. Delving into Bram Stoker’s Dracula will provide unique insight into the audience’s desires/expressions of gender. Finding the transition point from the monster vampire of Dracula to Stephanie Meyer’s desirous, sparkling boy-next-door in Twilight will track the trajectory of gender and sexual norms through time. From the foundational adaptation of the Byronic hero in Wuthering Heights to the repressed vampiric desire of Dracula, to queer desire/domestication within Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, ending with sparkling vampires of Twilight, we can invite the Byronic hero, which already supports rejection of societal expectations, into a genderless space, becoming a champion of desire absent from the constraints of gender and sexuality conformity.
