Previous issue date: 2009-06-30 / Our study focused on the short story Theory of Medallion (1881), of Machado de Assis, with the aim of studying how the author articulates the use of parody understood in its double sense of parallelism and reversal in light of the theoretical foundations of Hutcheon (1995) for whom the parody is ironic "trans-contextualizing", that is, repetition with critical difference and Bakhtin (1993), which highlights the dialogical structure of parody speech: a "premeditated hybrid" between the parodied speech and the one which parodies it, without, however, destroying it. Although there are some studies in the critical fortune of this short story that go in that direction, such as: Almeida (2006) and Rego (1989), we would deal with parody under another perspective, that is, in the context of the serious-comic tradition, especially the Menippean satire, whose dialogical root is closely examined by Bakhtin as the original cell of Romanesque speech. It is under such strain which Machado was explicitly influenced by, as he has obliquely registered in a metafictional passage on Theory of Medallion: "you must not only use the irony, this movement at the corner of the mouth, full of mysteries, invented by a Greek of the decadence, contracted by Lucian, transmitted to Swift and Voltaire, common feature of the skeptical and insolent " that the subtitle "Dialogue" is materialized as a parody of a gender included in the tradition of the classical Platonic dialogues. By means of discourse analysis of the ambivalent Machadian short story, we point out the moments in which he was under a different discourse - that of The Republic of Plato - which now approached, now pushed away, in an alternate game of hiding-revealing in the manner of Machado, a reader of Lucian of Samosata. Our goal, however, was not only to unveil the parody construction within the narrative structure. We also intended, through this exemplary short story inside the short stories of the author, to reflect on the formative aspect that engenders, either at the level of gender as a hybrid of, at least, three matrices: the serious-comic of Menippean, the Platonic dialogue and the essay or "story-theory" (Bosi, 1999) or at the level of Machadian project of national literature whose cornerstone is the formation of a skillful reader capable of understanding, through an inside out reading, the critical hidden under the supposed praise of the picture of the medallion, typical successful citizen of the Brazilian society of the nineteenth century, which is nourished only of appearances / Nosso estudo centrou-se sobre o conto Teoria do Medalhão (1881), de Machado de Assis, tendo por objeto de investigação o modo como o autor articula o recurso da paródia entendida no seu duplo sentido de paralelismo e inversão à luz dos fundamentos teóricos de Hutcheon (1995), para quem a paródia é transcontextualização irônica, isto é, repetição com diferença crítica e Bakhtin (1993), que destaca a estrutura dialógica do discurso paródico: um híbrido premeditado entre o discurso parodiado e aquele que o parodia, sem, contudo, destruí-lo.

Previous issue date: 2009-06-30 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The objective of this work is to study the narrator category in two works of Lygia
Bojunga A bolsa amarela (1976) and O sofá estampado (1980) in order to
elucidating the author project entered in them. Thus, deserves attention, in this study,
the narratives procedures that are in the service of an authoral project construction.
In the search of bojunguiano project, the work takes support in the theoretical studies
of Wayne Booth (1980) the American critic especially in The Rhetoric of Fiction, a
work in which, Booth organizes and illustrates the concept of implied author a
double of real author . For the critic, the author can not be absent from the narrative,
in addition to defining how to tell, the author included this mode in the narrative,
projecting it to the authoral category, that also becomes fictional instance. First of all,
we present a chapter about the critical fortune around the corpus studied here, for
the purpose of understanding the differents theoretical-critical perspectives, already
adopted in the critical study of selected works. Second of all, we turn our attention to
the narrator s movements both in A bolsa amarela as in O sofá estampado to see
how such procedures contribute to the construction of the bojunguiano project. The
used method for reading the corpus was descriptive and analytical. Given the
analysis undertaken, we have seen that the authoral project of the fiction writer
identified in both works suposes an effect of approximation of the reader in relation
to the narrative scene, causing the reflection about the narrated story and, in the
course of his reading, a reflection about himself giving to the studied narratives an
aesthetic effect that also includes the course of the reader s formation / Este trabalho tem como objetivo o estudo da categoria narrador em duas
vistas à elucidação do projeto autoral nelas inscrito. Deste modo, merecem destaque

Previous issue date: 2009-04-28 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The cordel literature, meaningful expression of the Northeast s popular
culture, has engendered an increasing interest in the academic literature after a
period of forgetfulness.
This paper attempts to appraise this plural artistic expression. Starting from a
historical comprehension through questions related to its original poetry position,
with its formal models, focusing in the orality and in the performance, and finishing
with its participation also as an art of the memory.
This work is organized in four chapters. All of them, especially the first one,
were based on the Paul Zumthor s theoretical assumptions and in his inquiring and
innovative thoughts about memory, orality and performance. The first chapter is the
core of the reflections presented in this paper. The second chapter presents a
historical path, while the third chapter focuses in the critics. Through an analysis and
review of the classical paper Viagem ao país de São Saruê , de Manoel Camilo dos
Santos, chapter four presents an example of a cordel text model.
It is also considered useful a modernization of the media structure used by

Previous issue date: 2009-08-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The research investigates Guimarães Rosa s mythical speech through the construction of the mythical character, according to Campbell s model of the monomyth. The corpus adopted is the short story A Hora e Vez de Augusto Matraga. It also focuses the sources of the literary creation in which the author got his inspiration to conceive a character that although he symbolizes a man from Brazilian backlands, transcends the documental record, the ascension to the condition of mythical hero through the adventures and the search of the salvation of his soul. We started from the hypothesis of that the construction of the mythical character, according to the diagram of the monomyth, besides being an indelible features of identification of the myth in Rosa s fiction, also clarifies the importance of the metaphysical religious worries of the author about the conception of his work, because the hero of the monomyth shows, during his trajectory, features of rituals of initiation. The aspect of initiation of the trajectory of the mythological hero reveals the holy meaning of the myth of the hero: this one symbolizes the divine potential in human being who only can be developed due to a project of ascetic life and of a heroic ethos. Identifying the archetype of the mythological hero in creation of the character Augusto Matraga, according to the key of reading of the monomyth, we identify the meeting among myth, religion and literature in the work of an author who transcended the documental regionalism, as a result of the creation of the myth of the spiritual asceticism of a character in the heart of the backlands of the North of Minas Gerais / A pesquisa investiga a realização do discurso mítico rosiano por meio da construção da personagem mítica, segundo o modelo campbelliano do monomito.

Previous issue date: 2009-09-25 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This dissertation proposes to analyze the novel The Rats from Dyonelio Machado. The objectives are to show in the perspective taken by the narrator's voice, realistic aspects in the modern discourse of Dyonelio Machado, as to reflect, on the use of film language. To achieve these objectives, was selected the following issue: How the narrative discourse of The Rats reveals a dialogic discourse in construction modernrealistic? The hypotheses − the novel The Rats outlines a critical tension that resists the pressures of social and historical context to reconstruct a correlation between real and speech, and use resources of the film language to account for a small and distressing construction of the modern subject −, guided the development of work and sought to prove the issue problem. The theoretical foundation on the narrative discourse relies in texts such as the Narrative Discourse from Gérard Genette (1995), Notes on Literature I, Theodor W. Adorno (2003), The Theory of the Novel: Issues of Literature and Aesthetics of Mikhail Bakhtin (2002). Film discourse, in turn, is based on the theoretical criticism proposals from Arlindo Machado, Ismael Xavier and Eisenstein. Among the conclusions, stand out: in The Rats, the distressing search of Naziazeno represents the many hardships of the man in the also oppressive capitalist society of our time; the symbolism of the figure of rats, refer to the dispossessed individuals in the capitalist urban world, and refer to the annihilation of the individual in a problem that extends to the community / Esta dissertação propõe-se a analisar o romance Os Ratos, de Dyonelio Machado.
As hipóteses − o romance Os
questão-problema.

Previous issue date: 2009-09-28 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The present study aims to investigate the construction of identities assumed by Augusto Matraga character in the tale " A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga " Guimarães Rosa (1946). To enable a greater understanding of the duality of the protagonist is necessary to establish relations between him and the environment he lives in (the backwoods), making comparisons between being original (self) and others. For that, we used the theoretical proposal of Mikhail Bakthin that highlights the notion that the self can not be seen as something autonomous. Rather, he is an element whose existence only gain significance in establishing dialogue with other selves. For this reason, speech and language become a phenomenon which shows that the self does not exist without the other. Another scholar who we believe, Walnice Nogueira Galvão shows that the character of Augusto Matraga has an ambiguous path, which reproduces the mythical-religious cycle, in constant conflict between good and evil. Thus, initially revealed and equates to a demon, then rises to a saint and at the end of the tale becomes almost a hero. Finally, the research showed us that Guimarães Rosa works the character Augusto Matraga as its ideal of creation because when you create it, purported to show the man incomplete, that is constructed and reconstructed through interaction that establishing himself and the other face a reality, also dual / O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar a construção das identidades assumidas pela personagem Augusto Matraga, no conto A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga , de Guimarães Rosa (1946).

Previous issue date: 2009-09-30 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This paper has as its aim analyzing the novel A CARNE, by Júlio Ribeiro (1888),
according to the Impressionist painting view, in order to revalue it while an esthetic
object, under the Naturalism and Impressionism conceptions.
The first chapter deals with the analysis perspective which is able to verify the
inter-relations between image and word in tension areas of the narrative between
narration and description. This favors, at the same time, the perception and the
observation of the word that is being read through the application of the artistic and
impressionist proceedings on the literary discursive material.
The second chapter enlights new possibilities for the plastic-visual articulation,
materialized in the literary word by considering the impressions and sensations of the
real world as an object. By means of the reflection on the real, the Impressionist artist
Claude Monet used to project his painting diagrams on the screen. This way, Júlio
Ribeiro s literary word is delegated to the narrator under two proceeding aspects: the
scene told as word and the scene shown as image.
The third chapter shows that the tension zones are crossed sometimes by the
narrator s view and others by the character s one, resulting in the dissociation
subject-object in the literary discourse. This is what bases the synthesis word-object
beneath the Impressionist perspective between the artist and/or writer s reflections
and depuration.
In the conclusion, it is finally detached that in A CARNE , by Júlio Ribeiro, the
image, together with the word in experimentation, receives an artistic function of
presenting the body of the word-object, to the reader, to the literature understood as
word-body in an acting of representing the real / A presente dissertação tem por objetivo analisar o romance A CARNE, de Júlio
objeto estético, sob as concepções do Naturalismo e Impressionismo.
mundo real enquanto objeto.

Previous issue date: 2009-12-15 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / Rosa s writing, in general, is marked by the creation of a magical and mysterious
universe. Guimarães Rosa handles the language with such intensity that his "stories"
create such impact on the reader capable of causing in him a desire to go through this
fantastic space too.
The crossing of that universe can be done through many ways. In this research,
in particular, we choose the forks offered by the book First stories (Primeiras estórias).
Published in 1962, the book gathers twenty-one short stories seen here as the
experiences of life.
The research begins with an analysis of the short story The mirror , the eleventh
story of the book. From there, it emphasizes the etymology of the word mirror, and its
philosophical meaning, the revelation of true identity through a search of the inner side
and its contradictions suggested in the confrontation between man and boy. From the
awareness of these contradictions arises a third possibility of existential quest.
Then some aspects of the main story are shown on how they appear reflected in
the other twenty "stories" of the book. The insistence on using the infant universe, the
coexistence of opposites, the emergence of a third dimension, beyond the need to give
the "final jump" to transcend and to envision a third installment of the reality.
After the stories rapprochement, it explores the concept of word as an element
that has the same function as a mirror. Thus, we formulated the hypothesis of a study
done with the language that raises speculation about a reality that is not seen through
the eyes of the body. A scripture that turns into space where it is possible to transcend.
Finally, we see how the argument put forward by the narrator of The mirror is
backed up on the experiences of individual characters deemed excluded. At the
intersection of situations told we can understand how the paradoxes can lead to the
do livro.
função correspondente à do espelho.
espirituais

Previous issue date: 2009-12-15 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The main object of this research is reading the child s book illustrator process
considering the dialog between word and image in the writer and illustrator Eva
Furnari s books, under poetic and expressive functions. Many categorical and
functionalist studies on image and word are, here, thought over and applied: Roland
Barthes (1972); Roman Jakobson (1985); Kibédi-Varga (1989); Luís Camargo
(1998), Rui de Oliveira (1998), among other proposals of studious and artists
involved in child s book illustration.
We are trying to demonstrate the fable reinvention of the child s book, taking
from the illustrated pages since oral narrative versions to Eva Furnari s imagetic
narrative and pieces of other contemporary illustrator authors, intending to find a
methodology to read the space, understood as the place of language creation. The
outcome of the interaction between the artistic graphic project and the literary project
is the illustrator text, space of reading experience and using the image interrelated to
the word. This analytic and interpretative study came out of questions concerning to
the relation between autonomy and the complementarity of image and word
observed in the illustrative polissemic Furnari s works and others. During the
preparation of this study, questions on the reading expression under the author s and
the reader s imaginary, favoring the understanding of reading ages, beyond the
verbal and visual reading hierarchy to be observed in young reader s formation.
Chapter I deals with the illustration historicity, emphasizing the relationship
word-image statute, in autonomy and interdependence, offering conjectures to the
visual approach for child s books pages. The chapter II focuses on the thematic
importance of the written project facing the interactive experience between the
imaginary project and the verbal one considered as a text, space of language
production. The third one presents a dialog on the bidimensional physical space of
Furnari s books pages and other illustrators in order to apply the methodology and
the final results related to the illustrative text semantics / O objetivo central desta dissertação é a leitura do processo ilustrador do livro
estudiosos e artistas da ilustração do livro infantil.
demais autores.

Previous issue date: 2010-05-19 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / The purpose of this research is a reading of Alexandre Herculano´s Eurico, o
presbítero. In this study, we examine Herculano not only as a historical novelist, but
as the author defines himself in his prologue, a "poet-chronicler," in other words, the
guardian of the memory, the Portugal´s identity. In this perspective, we realize that
Herculano, by alternating in his work poetry, through the memories worked in a
subjective way, and chronicle, used as a literary record of historical facts, then
chronological memory, had the intent to actually protect from the forgetfullness the
reference of Portugal´s identity. He really wanted to be the guardian of it. From this
perspective, we are led to a journey through time, through St. Agostinho and
Aristóteles´s theories. The collective memory earns the status of guardian´s identity.
Supported in Bachelard and Ecléia Bosi´s theoris, we will treat the function of the
memory and, respectively, of the images that populate it and are rebuilt through the
imagination of the novelist. Also important to note, in Herculano´s work, some
theoretical´s influences proposed by Rousseau, such as the return to the nature in
the search for a purification for the romantic author, through the removal of a society
he can´t tolerate. Herculano, rebuilding the Middle Age, also created an intertextuality
between his novel and Bernardim Ribeiro´s work, who was highly estimated in his
period, which shows that, as Bernardim, Herculano wanted that his novel were read
on two levels: a critic and a romantic way. We defend, therefore, that in the novel, we
found the idealization of a rebuild of the self, based on the interface man versus
nature, as this is the purification way of the society that is in a corruptive process, so
the intent of the author is not limited to be the guardian of the memory, but, the
incenter for the creation of a new Portuguese identity / A proposta desta dissertação é uma leitura da obra Eurico, o presbítero, de
Alexandre Herculano.
identidade portuguesa. Queria ser o guardião desta. A partir desta perspectiva,
imaginação do romancista.
nova identidade portuguesa
