Med lätt hand : Att använda bildspråk och lyriska drag i lättläst skönlitteratur / Approachable imagery : On the use of metaphors and poetic language in Easy Language literature

Söderling, Åsa January 2024 (has links)
This Bachelor’s thesis in Creative Writing examines how to use metaphors and poetic language in Easy Language/Easy Readers novels. The purpose is to find out how a poetic approach to Easy Language can contribute to a more artistic and literary way of writing, while still keeping in mind the target readers of the text. These readers often face challenges when it comes to reading texts written in standard language. The method includes an analysis of two Easy Language novels in Swedish, Vilhelm Moberg’s Sista brevet till Sverige retold by Johan Werkmäster and Det som inte får hända by Emma Frey-Skøtt, as well as experimentation with writing a new text. The conclusion is that there are many ways to use metaphors and poetic language without making the text more difficult. /
C-uppsats i Kreativt skrivande

De Simoni Milione, Vitor 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis aims to explore the profound impact of the semantics of war in Xenophon’s philosophy. Its pervasive influence is examined, firstly, through an analysis of the military rationale’s contribution to various domains within Xenophon’s contemplation, including education, ethics, politics, and economics. The ubiquity of this influence is also evident in the examination of the military analogies and metaphors employed by Xenophon to convey various facets of his philosophical thought. The first chapter delves into Xenophon’s conception and understanding of the art of war, as well as his amoral and pragmatic view of war itself. This foundation establishes the groundwork for subsequent discussions, particularly those concerning education, politics, and economics. The second chapter explores Xenophon’s conception of paideia, revealing that the citizen, soldier, and military commander are concurrently shaped. It emphasizes the Spartan and Persian models, where preparation for war plays a predominant role in all the stages of an ideal paideia. The third chapter demonstrates the impact of the military rationale on Xenophon’s conception of the State, illustrating how elements of the art of camping are transposed to the structure of the State. It further reveals the utilization of the military organization (stratiôtikê syntaxis) to create a strictly hierarchized political and economic system. This results in a state structure characterized by security, constant surveillance, swiftness, efficiency, discipline, and strict timeliness and spatial organization—similar to the military camp. The fourth chapter explores what I have called the “military administration of the oikos,” illustrating the parallels between the functions of spouses and military commanders. The analysis delves into the association between the military concept of taxis and oikonomia, where Xenophon applies army organizational rules to house planning and interior layout. The fifth chapter focuses on the combat metaphor, describing the ethical relationship of the individual with oneself, that is, the efforts to control the violence of one’s own desires and the urgency of pleasures to avoid falling into vice. This analysis leads to an exploration of a fundamental aspect of Xenophontic ethics: the concepts of freedom and servitude. The sixth chapter focuses on two other types of metaphor: an analysis of the concepts of philia and symmakhia leads to an exploration of the metaphors of the ‘alliance’ and ‘the victory over friends in terms of good deeds.’ The last three chapters collectively demonstrate that military analogies and metaphors are not mere figures of speech but rather constitutive elements, that is, part of the very fabric of Xenophon’s philosophical thought. In conclusion, this thesis underscores the essential and fundamental character of the semantics of war in Xenophon’s philosophical expression, thus helping to bridge the existing gap between Xenophon, the soldier and historian, and Xenophon, the philosopher.

Both temple and tomb: difference, desire and death in the sculptures of the Royal museum of central Africa

Morris, Wendy Ann 30 November 2003 (has links)
Both Temple and Tomb is a dissertation in two parts. The first part is an examination and analysis of a collection of 'colonial' sculptures on permanent display in the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren Belgium. The second part is a reflection on the author's own paintings, drawings and film and an examination of the critical potential of these images in challenging the colonial narratives of the RMCA. Part I presents two arguments. The first is that European aesthetic codes have been used to legitimize the conquest of the Congo and to award sanction to a voyeuristic gaze. The second is that the organization of the sculptures of Africans (and European females) into carefully managed spaces and relationships results in the creation of erotically-charged formations that are intended to afford pleasure to male European spectators. Part II examines the strategies used in Re-Turning the Shadows to disrupt (neo)colonial patterns of viewing that have become ritual and 'naturalized'. Against RMCA narratives that pay homage to the objectivity of science and research, the paintings and film present images that explore multiple subjectivities, mythologizing impulses, and metaphoric allusions. / Art History, Visual Arts & Musicology / M.A. (Visual Arts)

The lived experience of the strategic leader: what effective CEOS do, how they do it and an exploration into how they think about it

Nyabadza, George Wangirayi 31 March 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to study the lived experience of being a strategic leader, described as the black box of leadership, and to extend the limited research in this field. The researcher utilised the qualitative ethnographic methodology of direct observation, observing 138 discrete critical incidents that made up the lived experience of the five strategic leaders in the sample. The researcher further utilised observation tools from the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming, personal experiences, metaphors, allegories, analogies as well as deep personal introspection to make sense of the lived experience of the five CEOs. The primary research objective was to answer the question: What do CEOs do and how do they do it? A further related objective was to explore how they think about what they do. The research answered these questions by prising open the 'black box' of the lived experience of the strategic leader. The result of the research is the pure leadership spider web model. The pure leadership spider web model breaks down the lived experience of the strategic leader, the content of the black box, into eight dimensions: the pillars that make up the personal leadership philosophy; emotional states of mind brought to bear in meetings; kinaesthetic patterns used during meetings; meeting dynamics; emotional states brought to bear on day-to-day shop-floor engagement; emotional states brought to bear on leadership engagement sessions with other like business leaders; frames of mind governing the day-to-day experiences; and The Magic Language Box. / Business Management and Entr / DBL

Selfverwysing as supervisieproses : ontwikkeling van die interne supervisor

Meyer, Gert Frederick 09 1900 (has links)
Hoofstuk 13 plaas selfsupervisie as selfevalueringsmetode binne die psigoterapeutiese beroep. / The object of this study somewhat unusual. The study is an autobiography based on the assumption that there exists an unique patterned connection between the psychotherapist, his history, science (ethnography and second-order cybernetics), and his clients. Due to distance or financial problems, a rural psychotherapist cannot experience the privilege of supervision with an external supervisor. In such a situation selfsupervision could play an important role in the self-development, because it includes a search of self that will lead to more effectiveness in psychotherapy. Self-supervision focuses on the psychotherapist as a person and therapist, who he is, where he comes from, and in what direction he, as a psychotherapist, is developing within the psychotherapeutic process. It is important to any psychotherapist to strive towards a higher level of psychotherapy. This implies a process of selfinvestigation, dissection and self-evaluation. This process was conducted by means of diary entries in which the psychotherapist interpreted his daily experiences and events in terms of his past. This places the psychotherapist, with his family history and current interpersonal situation, as intrinsic parts of himself, in the foreground. In this process the psychotherapist takes centre stage with emphasis on his responsibility concerning the process of self-supervision. The problems addressed by this personally coloured, scientific study, are problems that the psychotherapist identified through the process of self-supervision and introspection. Such introspection leads to a deeper personal knowledge which the psychotherapist can use to his own benefit but also to the benefit of his family and client system. This study is an attempt to identify a new way of research. It is comprehensive and leads to personal fulfilment and deeper self-knowledge and is also a method by which other psychotherapists could discover themselves and their worlds. It is a slow and painful process. Chapters 1 to 4 comprise of the theoretical rationale of the study and chapters 5 to 12 depict the history of the psychotherapist. Chapter 13 situates self-supervision as a method of self-evaluation in the profession of psychotherapy. / Psychology / D. Litt. et Phil.

Αναστασοπούλου, Χαρίκλεια 11 October 2013 (has links)
It is well known that dementia is associated with memory loss, impaired language skills, lack of autonomy and loss of patients’ independence. The aim of this paper is to highlight the connection between ambiguity and dementia, and to investigate the feasibility of a methodological tool to assess and investigate the linguistic deduction in dementia through the linguistic processing of lexical relations (metaphor-homonymy-metonymy) and present the profile of such patients. In the first section I present general information as well as the linguistic features of the main types of dementia. In this section there is also a report on the diagnostic tools which are widely used to identify the disease. More detailed information about the use of these diagnostic tools is listed in the Annex. At the end of this section there is evidence about the benefits and the importance of early diagnosis. The second section is mainly referred to the mental lexicon and the difficulty patients with probable dementia face in accessing it. Furthermore there is evidence for lexical acquisition, selection and retrieval of information which shows the mental lexicon – ambiguity connection. In the third section I present the phenomenon of ambiguity, starting from the theoretical linguistic view; how the ambiguous words are conquered and processed in relation to age and lead to neural correlation of lexical ambiguity with specific brain regions. At the end of this section I present findings / conclusions of several researches, using different methods, on the lexical ambiguity on each type of dementia. The last section presents my basic assumptions concerning how the use of lexical relations can be a diagnostic tool in dementia. Furthermore, I present the construction and the results of the experimental process between four different subjects (patient-healthy) with different pathology and severity of the disease. Finally, at the annex, I present data on the differential diagnosis of the disease based on algorithms with cognitive deficits reported by caregivers of patients as well as pathology features. Also there is a board with differential linguistic elements which help distinguish the main types of dementia, along with the experimental material used and the results of the procedure.

Para a implanta??o da meritocracia na gest?o de carreira: implica??es dos contextos cultural, gerencial e pol?tico de uma empresa estatal federal brasileira / Toward the introduction of meritocracy in career management: the implications of the cultural, managerial and political contexts in a Brazilian federal state-owned company

No. of bitstreams: 1 2015 - Rayner Carvalho Pestana.pdf: 3842091 bytes, checksum: 6249d189977450bb8ee9dbbc3e59483d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-07-03 / The transformation of the Brazilian Public Management, specifically about the adoption of modern tools for human resources, has been happening since the last century and the concern about the introduction of meritocracy in career management is still considered a recurring theme. An evidence of that is the guidance from management and control department of federal state-owned companies to adopt meritocracy in their career management systems. The organization studied here, although already have passed thirteen years of validity of its current jobs and salaries plan, seems not yet to have been able to establish career management policies based on meritocracy. Due to the problem presented, the main objective of this research focused on raising the implications of the organizational context of a Brazilian federal state-owned company, dependent on the Treasury, for the introduction of meritocracy in career management. An applied qualitative research was carried out, configured in the form of a single case study to map the features of the current cultural, managerial and political contexts and to interpret their implications in the adoption of meritocracy as an organizational value. The research subjects were purposefully selected, among managers and career employees, and interviewed based on a script and from a photograph (photo elicitation) to reveal the current context. The field data were subjected to an inductive hermeneutic analysis. Based on these results, it can be inferred that meritocracy in career management, understood as ?a set of criteria, adopted by an organization that has on individual performance, effort and results, the fundamental pillars for granting promotions and progressions to its employees in their own careers?, is not yet explicitly manifested in the studied company. It was perceived that the company is set as a political arena type and that the current alternative process of granting promotions and progressions has been working as a fundamental mechanism for the on going internal power dynamics. On the context found, some manager actions were proposed to contribute to the implementation of meritocracy in career management. It can be considered, as a contribution to the field, the opportunity for reflecting on the negative implications of the penetration of management values in human resources, regarding: uncritical transfer of tools from the private sector to the public one; defense of entrepreneurship discourse that considers the career management as sole responsibility of the professional; only financial and quantitative focus on performance evaluations; and probability of management tools not resulting in professional development but only in the control and exploitation of the individual. For future research it is suggested i.e.: to investigate what commitment means to the organizational members in order to connect it to the company's concepts raised in the study; to analyze meritocracy from the psychological contract breach viewpoint; and to expand this study to other public organizations dependent or not on the Treasury, to ascertain the implications of cultural and managerial traits and the power dynamics for the adoption of meritocracy in career management.

Puigarnau Torelló, Alfons 01 June 1999 (has links)
In the 12th century European context, predominates the iconography of Christ placed in a light mystic mandorla holding an open book containing inscriptions concerning a special theology of light. The Maiestas Domini iconography strongly arises together with the historical fact of the agustinian liturgical movement. The so called agustinian canonigas were originally born in saint Ruph of Avignon and saint Victor of Marseille holding the spirituality of the Rule written by saint Agustin himself and later moved into Cataluña renewing his original idea of neoplatonic mystical beauty. The arrival of collections of manuscripts into Catalonia containing the Homily to the Prologus of saint John by Scotus Eriugena is enough to proof the relationship between the theology of light iconography and the neoplatonic traditions originated in the 9th century Carolingian Court. The text of the Vox Spiritualis Aquilae involves a reception of the Theology of light within the Maiestas Domini iconography. It is a new way of representing God, man and world in art.
