Floatovoltaics: Quantifying the Benefits of a Hydro-Solar Power Fusion

McKay, Abe 01 May 2013 (has links)
To slow climate change, humans should take immediate and widespread action. One way to slow climate change is by switching to switch to renewable power plants such as solar fields. Recently, pioneering companies have built solar fields on water bodies. This study found that such a pairing of water and solar could increase production efficiency by 8-10% through panel cooling, save millions of liters of water from evaporation, and produce energy with under-utilized space.

Självkänsla och självbild med SET-metoden : En kvalitativ studie om fem pedagogers upplevelser av SET-metoden vad gäller elevernas självkänsla och självbild / Self-esteem and self-image in social and emotional training : A study about five teachers’ experiences of social and emotional training concerning pupils’ self-esteem and self-image

Hammar, Therese January 2010 (has links)

Ghassemi, Nima January 2010 (has links)

Haeck, Nicolas 03 1900 (has links) (PDF)

Selenius, Inana January 2018 (has links)

This work presents, under diverse aspects, the water losses that occur in the distribution networks of the water supply systems and the available mechanisms of control. Amongst the objectives, it detaches the proposal of a computational model as a new tool for leak localization. The considered model was developed through the coupling of hydraulic simulator based in Time Marching Approach ¿ TMA method with the Nelder-Mead optimization algorithm. The work aims to extend the results obtained by LUVIZOTTO (1998) and OCAMPOS (2003), by applying the model to a real water distribution network, using the data provided by the water company and suggesting a methodology for application of the model for such conditions / Mestrado / Recursos Hidricos / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

L. T. Meade's Avaricious Anomaly: Â Madame Sara, British Imperialism, and Greedy Wolves in The Sorceress of the Strand

Denning, Laurie Langlois 01 June 2018 (has links)
L. T. Meade's Avaricious Anomaly: Madame Sara, British Imperialism, and Greedy Wolves in The Sorceress of the Strand. Laurie Langlois Denning, Department of English, BYU Master of Arts. Critics interested in the prolific late Victorian author L.T. Meade have primarily focused on her work as an author of girls' stories and novels for young people, which enjoyed fantastic commercial success in her lifetime but fell into obscurity after her death. Recent scholarship on her detective fiction shows Meade's significant contributions to the genre as well as her engagement with social and political discourse. Scholars have noted ways that Meade's popular series, The Sorceress of the Strand, contributes to the New Woman debate and expresses anxiety over the British imperial project. This project examines Meade's villain in the series as a social anomaly that functions to interrogate the greed at the heart of imperialism. Examining the series' conclusion and the unusual nature of its ending sheds new light on Meade's contribution to debate over empire at the fin de siécle. Meade's fascinating villain, Madame Sara, is doggedly pursued by two detective figures--one is considered the top forensic specialist in the British police force and the other is the head of a business fraud agency--but the detectives are never able to bring Madam Sara to justice. Instead, it is a wolf that finally defeats the brilliant criminal mastermind. Why a wolf? Madam Sara's unusual demise serves as a deus ex machina that invites the reader to consider the Dante symbolism embedded in the text. Other critics see Meade's ending as reinforcing the empire; however, given the Dante imagery that has Madam Sara symbolizing a greedy imperial force, Meade's series indicts imperial greed and warns British citizens about failure to apprehend the evil in empire.

Performance of alternative option pricing models during spikes in the FTSE 100 volatility index : Empirical evidence from FTSE100 index options

Rehnby, Nicklas January 2017 (has links)
Derivatives have a large and significant role on the financial markets today and the popularity of options has increased. This has also increased the demand of finding a suitable option pricing model, since the ground-breaking model developed by Black & Scholes (1973) have poor pricing performance. Practitioners and academics have over the years developed different models with the assumption of non-constant volatility, without reaching any conclusions regarding which model is more suitable to use. This thesis examines four different models, the first model is the Practitioners Black & Scholes model proposed by Christoffersen & Jacobs (2004b). The second model is the Heston´s (1993) continuous time stochastic volatility model, a modification of the model is also included, which is called the Strike Vector Computation suggested by Kilin (2011). The last model is the Heston & Nandi (2000) Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity type discrete model. From a practical point of view the models are evaluated, with the goal of finding the model with the best pricing performance and the most practical usage. The model´s robustness is also tested to see how the models perform in out-of-sample during a high respectively low implied volatility market. All the models are effected in the robustness test, the out-sample ability is negatively affected by a high implied volatility market. The results show that both of the stochastic volatility models have superior performances in the in-sample and out-sample analysis. The Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity type discrete model shows surprisingly poor results both in the in-sample and out-sample analysis. The results indicate that option data should be used instead of historical return data to estimate the model’s parameters. This thesis also provides an insight on why overnight-index-swap (OIS) rates should be used instead of LIBOR rates as a proxy for the risk-free rate.

Viewpoints: Liberatory Ensemble and Character

Clark, Christopher Layton 14 December 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation, submitted in article format, explores how the physical movement theories of Anne Bogart's Viewpoints may lead to a liberatory setting, one which echoes the theories of Paolo Freire, for college theatre students. It examines whether Viewpoints is effective in creating a studio classroom culture and whether the Viewpoints exercises can lead to a heightened clarity in individual performance, with a much more satisfying and involved learning experience for students of the theatrical arts. In addition, this dissertation applies the theory of Mead's symbolic interactionism to the discoveries that students make while using Viewpoints exercises. Research methods include autoethnography, analysis of case studies, and examination of interview data from three college directors and thirteen student actors who have trained and used Viewpoints in rehearsal.
