Le morphème d= en araméen-syriaque : étude d’une polyfonctionalité à plusieurs échelles syntaxiques / The morpheme d= in Aramaic-Syriac : a study on multifunctionality at several syntactic scales

Skaf, Roula 13 November 2015 (has links)
The behaviour of the polyfunctional morpheme d= in the Syriac language of the Gospels of the Peshiṭta is described in a typological perspective, in synchrony and in comparison, for some properties, with other varieties of Syriac and with other Semitic languages. d=, a former demonstrative in Proto-Semitic, is a relator at various syntactic levels: a determination place-holder, a genitival and relative marker, an introducer of completive and adverbial clauses.Chapter 1 introduces the topic of the study and the theoretical framework and chapter 2 discusses the state of art.Chapter 3 is dedicated to the study of the genitive phrase. We discovered that a syntactic criterion allows to distinguish semantically between alienable and inalienable phrases, to different degrees according to the semantic categories of the inalienable set, i.e. kinship and body part terms. In chapter 4, we showed that even though syntactic structures are similar for restrictive and non-restrictive relative clauses, it is impossible to relativize the latter for object, dative and adjoint relatives clauses. The syntactic gap strategy constitutes the primary strategy in the accessibility hierarchy and all the functions of the head in the main clause, except the object of comparison, are relativizable.Chapter 5 deals with the functions of d= as a complementizer and an introducer of adverbial clauses. The complementizer uses are wider than in Old Semitic. d= is employed with 12 of the 14 types of predicates of Noonan's typological classification as against 3 in Old Semitic. Syriac conforms to the implicational hierarchy named Complement Deranking-Argument Hierarchy. For adverbial clauses, the syntactic criterion of saturation of the verbal valency as well as semantic and contextual criteria permit to distinguish adverbial clauses from complement clauses. When d= forms conjunctive locutions with prepositions or adverbs, the polysemy of values is disambiguated thanks to the context. Only the conjunction mo d= is monosemous (with a temporal meaning). In the last chapter (chap. 6) on reported speech, we showed that direct reported speech is mostly introduced without d=, whereas it is always the case for indirect speech. Greek did not have any influence on the use of d=.

Le discours rapporté dans les débats politiques télévisés : formes et fonctions des recours au discours autre : le cas des débats de l'entre-deux-tours des présidentielles françaises (1974-2012) / Reported speech in televised political debates : forms and functions of the use of other speech : the case of the debates between the two rounds of the French presidential elections (1974-2012)

Caillat, Domitille 08 December 2016 (has links)
Grounded in the framework of the discourse-in-interaction analysis, this work analyses the forms and functions of reported speech within the six second-round debates of the French presidential election taking place in France between 1974 and 2012. Its object is to precisely determine the purpose of reported speech (which one might think that it is not truly constitutive of the genre) within these interactions in which candidates’main aims are self-promotion and the opponent depreciation.By analysing in details the almost four hundreds extracts recorded in the corpus, our work shows that reported speeches aim, depending on their place within the exchanges, their source (the opponent, a third party or the speaker) and their propositional content, three different purposes we can consider as self-promotion, defence and argument — these purposes can be furthermore supported by some para- and non-verbal elements (voice movements, facial expression, posture, eye expression and gesture deployed at the same time).Following an initial intuition, this study reveals that not only reported speeches serve the candidates’ main goals during debates, but also, depending on their source, they assure different and complementary functions (functions serving the dynamic within the exchanges and the construction of a speech in confrontation, functions exclusively argumentative, or also functions relating to the debates global purpose).

Identification de opiniónes de differentes fuentes en textos en español / Identification d'opinions issues de diverses sources dans des textes en espagnol / Identification of opinions from different sources in Spanish texts

Rosá, Aiala 28 September 2011 (has links)
This work presents a study of linguistic expressions of opinion from different sources in Spanish texts. The work includes the definition of a model for opinion predicates and their arguments (source, topic and message), the creation of a lexicon of opinion predicates which have information from the model associated, and the implementation of three systems. The first system, based on contextual rules, gets good results for the F-measure score (partial match): predicate, 92%; source, 81%; topic, 75%; message, 89%; full opinion, 85%. In addition, for source identification the F-measure for exact match is 79%. The second system, based on Conditional Random Fields (CRF), was developed only for the identification of sources, giving 76% of F-measure (exact match). The third system, which combines the two techniques (rules and CRF), gives a value of 83% of F-measure (exact match), showing that the combination yields interesting results. As regards the identification of sources, our system compared to other work developed for languages other than Spanish, gives very satisfactory results. Indeed these works had scores that fall between 63% and 89.5%.Moreover, in addition to the systems made for the identification of opinions, our work has led to the construction of several resources for Spanish: a lexicon of opinion predicates, a 13,000 words corpus with opinions annotated and a 40,000 words corpus with opinion predicates end sources annotated.

Cedergren, Mickaëlle January 2005 (has links)

Inferno constitutes a turning point in Strindberg's literary production in that scriptural quotations appear more frequently and a new style emerges. This thesis presents the characteristics of the scriptural quotations appearing in Inferno (1897) and Jacob Wrestles (a fragment following Légendes, written in French and in Swedish in 1898). Comparative, discourse, textual and intertextual approaches are used to define the place and role of scriptural quotations in this literary corpus.

From a historical point of view, both novels are part of the religious history of late 19th century France, where religion played a more important role than during the scientific, rationalist era characterizing the preceding decades. Strindberg adopts a new style corresponding to the spirit of his time. The art of "quoting the Bible at random" is a rhapsodic style, which appears mainly in Strindberg’s correspondence, in his Occult Diary (writings contemporary with Inferno) and in the work of some French 19th century writers. This style originates, above all, in the occult tradition, but it is also a means of imitating the Bible and identifying with a prophetic figure.

The research discussed in this dissertation has made it possible to determine, for the first time, what Bible translations are used in the two novels by Strindberg (translations by Ostervald and Martin / Roques). Five different types of rewritings of quotations were found: omissions, cutting of verses, substitutions, typographical changes and inversions. These variations were aimed at harmonising the Biblical text and the Strindbergian text, while removing contextual and theological elements that bothered the writer. The discourse analysis has concentrated on the quotations viewed as reported speech, distinguishing different ways of introducing Biblical verses in the novel. It was found that the narrator's subjectivity is present in the comments leading up to the quotations. The polyphonic character of some quotations has stressed the importance of identification play between the narrator and certain quotations characters such as Christ, Job and the psalmist.

The intertextual analysis has revealed a large number of similarities in the scriptural quotations in the literary production of Strindberg, Swedenborg and French 19th century literature. It is shown that Inferno contains various quotations that appear in Occult Diary and in other writers’ works, such as those of Swedenborg, Péladan, Zola, Huysmans and Chateaubriand. Jacob Wrestles, on the other hand, does not include as many intertextual elements but instead reassembles many scriptural quotations that were underlined in the Bible translation used for this novel: La Sainte Bible, Ostervald's translation from 1890, which can be found in Blå Tornet (The Strindberg Museum in Stockholm). Strindberg is consequently recycling Biblical material when he writes Inferno, while resorting to the French Bible of Ostervald from 1890 to write Jacob Wrestles.

The quotations strewn in Inferno constitute a crescendo and reveal the narrator’s unsuccessful attempt at conversion, at the same time forming the structure of a complaint psalm in which the narrator cries out his suffering and awaits liberation. In the French text of Jacob Wrestles, the writer offers a package of scriptural quotations in order to identify the narrator as "a religious man", imploring God's mercy like Moses and Job. In the Swedish text of Jacob Wrestles, a new perspective is introduced as a result of the change in language, the change from Old to New Testament, the new spiritual disposition of the narrator and the sudden intrusion of the writer in the narrator’s space. The role of scriptural quotations in the entire fragment of Jacob Wrestles is a true linguistic, thematic and theological revolution, which accounts for the narrator's extraordinary religious evolution. The misery of the narrator in Inferno allows a ray of Christian hope, which will persist in Strindbergs’s literary production post-Inferno.

Resonance in storytelling:verbal, prosodic and embodied practices of stance taking

Niemelä, M. (Maarit) 27 April 2011 (has links)
Abstract This study examines stories as they appear in everyday conversation, focusing on the high degree of parallelism observed in them. Such parallelism is shown to be a vehicle of stance taking in interaction. Stance taking is here viewed as a highly intersubjective and interactive, public, multi-layered activity, which involves words, linguistic structures, voices, the body and the surrounding environment, and is embedded in the sequential organisation of social interaction. Stance taking involves various types of resonance between two interaction participants and also between the interactional turns of one participant. The concept of resonance is treated as the process of activating affinity across dialogic turns of talk within a telling or a series of tellings. The present study uses both audio and video recordings of naturally-occuring everyday interactions as data. The study first shows that voiced direct reported speech (DRS) utterances displaying a shared stance are an appropriate response to prior voiced DRS utterances and that a sequence of subsequent resonant voiced DRS utterances is an orderly phenomenon in interaction and a sequentially relevant practice of stance taking. Secondly, the study explicates the way in which participants use resonant words, structures, voicing and embodiment, and implicate the surrounding environment in constructing a reporting space. The reporting space enables and invites active participation in the form of multimodal enactments from all the participants of the telling event to the overall stance-taking activity within the storytelling sequence. Thirdly, the study details the use of resonating formal storytelling elements functioning as a resource for stance taking, e.g. the preface of a second telling by second tellers ties back to the preface and the high point of a prior telling. Finally, the study examines the way in which multiple actions, such as troubles telling, delivering news, giving an explanation and requesting advice, are accomplished via repeated tellings of a story in different interactional contexts. Similar structural units of such tellings resonate in form, whereas some lexico-syntactic details of these units vary according to the social actions that are being accomplished via the tellings, according to the engagement of the recipient in the telling and to the physical circumstances of the telling. Vastaanottajat voivat vastata asettumalla itsekin rooliin. He osoittavat ymmärtävänsä kertojan näkökulman tuottamalla kertomuksen sisältöön ja kertojan ilmentämiin asenteisiin sopivia samanlinjaisia lisävuoroja.

Zaarour, Suzanne 09 December 2014 (has links)
The corpus is formed of six plays of Nathalie Sarraute; it hides a duplication of enunciation types in the characters’ dialogue. This duplication is latent due to personal pronouns and verb tenses’ neutralization. The transition from an enunciation layer to another is not marked at all or not traditionally marked. Therefore, deciphering will be more complicated to any reader, listener or spectator. These works of art are also highly polyphonic in terms of enunciation as in semantics, as several voices are intertwined and as the characters resort to authorities of point of view. Thus, readers, listeners and spectators should identify enunciation sources and “other” authorities of point of view to distinguish them from the original voices and to know what their contribution to the plays is. Even some speeches are reported and, predominately repeated as direct speech. Therefore, enunciation layers and enunciators are multiplied. We can also notice other voices in plays, as the author’s through what is called “stage directions” and other parts of the texts, the practitioners’ and the director’s through the performance.

Convergence en conversation : La similarité linguistique comme indice d'alignement et d'affiliation / Convergence in conversation : linguistic similarity as a cue of alignment and affiliation

Guardiola, Mathilde 01 December 2014 (has links)
This thesis investigates the manifestations of convergence (i.e. the rapprochement between the participants' productions) at the level of interaction. With this aim, the terms of alignment (defined in relation to the current activity) and affiliation (display of the same stance by both participants) are borrowed from Conversation Analysis. The conversational corpus (non-constrained, highly cooperative and globally symmetrical interaction) used is the CID-Corpus of Interactional Data. Firstly, the link between convergence and lexical similarity is investigated thanks to the analysis of a collection of 300 other-repetitions (collected using a tool to assist in the detection of OR). Secondly, storytelling is studied and a quantitative analysis of the evolution of listeners' responses is proposed together with a qualitative analysis of direct reported speech phenomena, which are likely to make affiliation emerge. These analyses show that lexical other-repetitions and "echo" reported speech (reported speech which is produced by the listener of the narrative) can be used by participants to, inter alia, express alignment and affiliation, which, in case of ratification, creates the adequate conditions for the emergence of interactional convergence. The same phenomena can be used to create the temporary disalignment necessary to engage in an oblique (and potentially convergent) sequence. This work then describes the establishment and the conduct of convergent sequences through the analysis of interactional phenomena.
