The Academy scandal- Danius and Engdahl through the framing of a journalist : A quantitative study on the Swedish media framing regarding Sara Danius and Horace Engdahl in the Swedish Academy scandal

Reijers, Clara, Chehadé, Natalie January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to examine to what extent the framing of different genders differs in Swedish media reporting on cultural scandals, depending on the journalists own gender. The study emphasizes on Sara Danius and Horace Engdahl in the crisis regarding the Swedish Academy, in order to be able to compare Swedish media reporting of a cultural scandal involving both a woman and a man. The empirical data that was examined in the study was news articles from six of the largest morning- and evening newspapers in Sweden – Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Göteborgs-Posten, Svenska Dagbladet and Sydsvenskan – which has been analyzed through a quantitative content analysis. The theoretical framework is based on framing, media logic, tonality and theories of gender, which can give an understanding of how the media portrays a scandal. In addition to these mentioned theories, we have used relevant previous research in scandal journalism and gender which indicates that women and men are portrayed differently in the media, within political scandals. It was therefore interesting to investigate whether this also could be applied on a cultural scandal and if the gender of the journalist could have a bearing on the framing. The journalists role in reporting and depictions of a scandal are significant, they have a responsibility to be objective and to depict the two sexes in an equal manner. From a society perspective, the study becomes interesting as the recipients of a scandal are affected by the media's portrayal of the entire course of events. The study concluded that the framing differs in how female and male journalists portray the two main characters in the scandal regarding the Swedish Academy. Female journalists are more prone to emphasize personal characteristics, appearance and professional role, and make greater use of media logic's personification. Female journalists also used both more positively and negative tonality in their context regarding Danius and Engdahl, while male journalists generally are more neutral in their tonality. The results also show that there is generally a greater focus on Danius professional role and appearance than with Engdahl, and that the journalists are more visible in the context of the articles that are primarily about Engdahl. Media logic's personification is also seen to a greater extent when Engdahl is portrayed than Danius. When the article is mainly about Danius, the tonality towards her is generally more positive, while when the article is mainly about Engdahl, the tonality towards him is generally more negative. Whoever the article is not primarily about is portrayed with a neutral tonality. In cases where images are included in the article, it show that these are favorable to Danius, when the article is mainly about her. When the article is mainly about Engdahl, the images are either neutral or unfavorable. To summarizse, women and men are portrayed differently in the scandal regarding the Swedish Academy and that the framing differs depending on whether the journalist is a woman or a man. However, it is difficult to say that all cultural scandals would have the same outcome, as both Sara Danius and Horace Engdahl are two unique individuals with strong traits.

Nordin, Ulrika January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to explore how one goes from theory to practice ina gender equality work in preschool by examining how preschool teachers havereceived and worked with a support- and inspiration material that a groupwithin the education administration in Umeå township has developed. I haveconducted qualitative interviews with four preschool teachers with a focus onan equal conversation in order to advocate that research is created ininteraction with others. With the analytical method InterpretivePhenomenological Analysis (IPA), the preschool teachers' experiences andfeelings have been analyzed and then interpreted with the help of institutionaltheory and Sara Ahmed's (2012) phenomenological theories about diversitywork within institutions. The results show that preschool teachers believe that it is important to work forgender equality in preschool. They also believe that there are benefits toworking more broadly and including more social categories than gender, andalso critically examining norms in preschool. Furthermore, the results showthat there are difficulties and obstacles within the organization that affect howthe support- and inspiration material has been received and worked with. Theseinclude challenges in going from theory to practice, fear of conflict withcolleagues, uncertainty about, and different interpretations of the concept ofgender equality and lack of leadership. In summary, it can be said that it takesmore than just distributing a gender equality material to create change in thedirection of increased gender equality in preschool. /
2022-06-02

Skeva flickexemplar : En queerteoretisk studie om femininitet och sexualitet i Sara Stridsbergs Darling River

Hillerbrand Rune, Johanna January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to study constructions of femininity and sexuality in Sara Stridsberg’s novel Darling River (2010). The analysis is based on queer theory and the term ’skev’ – a variation of ’queer’ that allows one to focus on additional forms of normativity apart from sexual desire – and examines how the characters of the novel are challenging the heteronormative framework by performing gender and sexuality in non-normative, subversive ways. In short, I discuss how the relationship between femininity, body and destiny is being portrayed, how the characters question heteronormativity by overdoing femininity, and by being unable (unwilling) to perform adult femininity. I also show how the novel constitutes non-normative sexuality in, for example, incestuous, non-reproductive and non-monogamous ways. Furthermore, I locate queer leakages in the text, and discuss how the characters relate to objectification and agency.

Problem-oriented approach to criminal investigation: implementation issues and challenges

Ozeren, Suleyman 08 1900 (has links)
As a proactive, information-based policing approach, problem-oriented policing emphasizes the use of crime analysis techniques in the analysis of the underlying causes of the problems that police deal with. In particular, analysis applications can be powerful tools for criminal investigation, such as crime reconstruction, profiling, IAFIS, VICAP, and CODIS. The SARA Model represents a problem-solving strategy of problemoriented policing. It aims to address the underlying causes of the problems and create substantial solutions. However, implementing problem-oriented policing requires a significant change in both the philosophy and structure of police agencies. Not only American policing but also the Turkish National Police should consider problem-oriented policing as an alternative approach for solving criminal activities.

DISORIENTATION/OBJECTS/BODIES

Larsson, David January 2012 (has links)

Metafore tela i prostora u romanima Sare Voters / Corporeal and Spatial Metaphors in the Novels of Sarah Waters

Krombholc Viktorija 28 June 2016 (has links)

Istraţivanja tela i prostora predstavljaju izuzetno plodnu i dinamiĉnu oblast savremene kritiĉke teorije.

/
The aim of this doctoral thesis is to explore the corporeal and spatial metaphors in the fiction of Sarah Waters, a contemporary Welsh novelist. The critical focus of the thesis is on Waters‟s first five novels, published between 1998 and 2009. Tipping the Velvet, Affinity and Fingersmith belong to the neo-Victorian genre, while Night Watch and The Little Stranger are set in the period during and after the Second World War. In Waters‟s fiction, the role of protagonist is mostly reserved for lesbian characters and her oeuvre can be perceived as an attempt to rewrite the chosen historical periods in ways which provide for the representation of lesbian characters and lesbian sexuality. In addition, her novels make a significant contribution towards wider literary representation of lesbian issues in the contemporary context. The main goal of this research is to analyze the role of corporeal and spatial metaphors in the portrayal of same-sex relationships, class tensions and other relevant themes in Waters‟s work.
The issues of body and space are undoubtedly at the centre of contemporary critical interest and theoretical debates that surround them are diverse and wide-ranging. However, while the history of theoretical interest in the body dates back to the classical tradition, spatiality only came to prominence in the second half of the twentieth century, when a surge of critical interest can be observed marking the beginning of the so-called spatial turn. The thesis therefore starts by providing a brief historical overview of the key theoretical approaches to the body, including the mind/body debate in the classical Platonic tradition, Cartesian dualism and contemporary poststructuralist theory. The theories of Michel Foucault and Judith Butler are then used as the main theoretical framework for the analysis of corporeal metaphors, which focuses on the motif of cross-dressing, the spectral metaphor, as well as a range of recurrent corporeal images in Waters‟s writing. In the following chapters, the focus shifts to contemporary theoretical approaches to spatiality and relevant sociological, cultural and historical research, which are used to explore the representations of home, prison, asylum and urban space, as well as the interaction between the lesbian protagonists and their surroundings.

Pedersen, Ann-Sofie January 2017 (has links)
This essay examines the body in Stina Aronsons Den fjärde vägen, and is based on theories from Sara Ahmed who writes about how the body is orientated toward and away from objects and others. The essay also intend to examine the way the character inhabit the room from a bodily experience and how this affect the way they feel and act against each other and themselves. My method is close reading, in which I approach parts of the book that refers to the body from different angles. In that way I read the book from a gender oriented perspective as well as a social perspective— in which the characters are related to different norms that causes expectations of how they should act in a certain kind of way.

Evaluation of pulmonary complications in dogs with severe sepsis submitted to intensive therapy

Kitsis, Marcelo 18 February 2011 (has links)
The advances in intensive care has allowed to offer better support to animals with severe sepsis. This is a clinical syndrome characterized by systemic inflammatory response associated with organic dysfunction, such as acute pulmonary injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In humans, this syndrome results in significant mortality, but, in veterinary medicine there are not many studies about this. The aim of this study was to evaluate the development the pulmonary complications in animals submitted to intensive care. In this study were included 14 animals with severe sepsis secondary to pyometra. During the period of intensive care the animals were evaluated: heart and respiratory rates, systolic blood pression, urine output, central venous pression lactate, lactate, central venous saturation, arterial hemogasometric and thoracic x-ray. All animals (100%) had abnormal breathing, three of these dogs eventually died (21.42%) and 11 (78.57%) out of intensive care. Animals with severe sepse secondary to pyometra underwent intensive therapy, requiring a chest radiographic daily in order to establish adequate respiratory support, and thus achieve lower mortality rates.

Sacred and profane

Gewalt, Sara January 2018 (has links)
With employing the intuitive method as the initial approach in my bachelor work, I seek to express what I feel but can not see. In my body and in the clay. In my thoughts and in the clay. A meeting of the hand and the thought in which the subconscious and conscious build in unison. My bachelor work has been a searching process with clay, where I’ve allowed my memories and my states of mind to color my work. My hands describe an alternative world from my subconscious and conscious states. A world in which nothing is what it seems.
