Analýza využívání internetových sociálních sítí v personálním řízení / Analysis of the Use of Social Network Sites in Personnel Management

Kozmová, Marie January 2014 (has links)
The thesis deals with methods of using social networking sites in personnel management. The social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) and their usable instruments are presented. The attention is focused on the factors that influence their use, such as the labour market situation or the specifics of Generation Y. The possibilities of using social networking sites including benefits and limits of this use are presented in the field of personnel planning, recruitment, selection and development of employees, based on the study of foreign scientific literature. A part of the thesis is a qualitative survey of the use of online social networking sites in personnel management. Methods of using online social networks in the personnel departments of large organizations based in Prague were investigated by using interviews. The common and different features of the use of online social networks in the Czech Republic and abroad arise from the comparison of the results of investigation and findings mentioned in foreign articles.

Sebeprezentace českých sportovců na internetových sociálních sítích a její využití v masových médiích / Self-presentation of czech sportsmen on social networking sites and its usage in mass media

Novotný, Ondřej January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Self-presentation of Czech Sportsmen on Social Networking Sites and its Usage in Mass Media" deals with a new phenomenon of the few last years - social networking sites and their usage for the work of sports journalists in particular. The thesis sums up the essential information about history and beginnings of the most important social networking sites. It also outlines the impact on the work of journalists. The core of the thesis is an analysis of the process how the information from social networking sites make their way to the articles in media. This research is based on three major sporting events - the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. It covers the production of two Czech daily newspaper - Mladá fronta DNES and daily Sport, the two printed media which provided the most comprehensive coverage of the Olympics. The thesis analyses the change of the news sources in the course of the last years, among which the social networking sites play a much bigger role than in the past. It focuses on determining the prevailing source for the articles during the Olympics. The thesis also explores whether the proportion of using the different sources changed during the years. It traces the amount of articles using...

Me, Myself, & Identity Online: Identity Salience on Facebook vs Non-Virtual Identity

Delise, Nathalie N 18 May 2012 (has links)
Many Social Networking Sites have come and gone over the past decade, but Facebook continues to grow in popularity. Facebook is designed to connect people to one another through virtual networks of “friends” where members participate in the presentation of self virtually- through profile creation, maintenance, and exchanges of content. Social Networking Sites create a location for identity formation and projection that is similar, yet distinct, from face-to-face interactions. Facebook offers a unique avenue for people to control their presentation of self, while maintaining reflexive features. This study this study explores the notion of a particular “Facebook role” while specifically addressing front stage projections in relation to backstage information and the resulting differences in identity. In effect, people are “themselves” on Facebook, just a consistently “good” version of themselves.

This work aims to conduct an analysis of the Facebook page "Garotas que jogam video game" considering its creation, organization, posts and interactions among users. We propose to conduct a research to understand the identity expressions related to feminist demands produced from themed communication exchanges within the cultural consumption of products directly or indirectly related to videogames. There is a presentation of sociocultural and marketing context that attempts to understand how the consumption of video games seems to be something not belonging to the female universe by regular sense as well an overview of perceived changes and trends. Also, we present theories and concepts used to create the perspective of research, especially considering relationships between consumption, gender, feminism, gaming culture. Is subsequently lodged an empirical work that is carried out direct observation of the page and its contents and interactions, relating them to the problem proposed, where is possible to detect the space as a legitimate place for fostering gender equality, but in a way subtle and gradual.

In our first methodological walkthrough, which was the bibliographical one, we have sought the comprehension about the online culture, associated to the communication practices in the cyberspace. Due to a restructuring in the music industry, opportunities have been opened in which the independent artist and the fans have commenced to act at the core of the process of transmitting and circulating culture in the virtual sphere, due to the appropriations of the current digital communication means. As online sociocultural experiences differ from face-to-face experiences, we have deemed significant to use as methodological contribution to empirical research the online ethnography or netnography. In a qualitative manner, this study does not offer universal generalizations, as it is based on a particular and specific context. Nevertheless, it is understood that this netnographic study can raise theoretical formulations that deepen the understanding of the complex relation established in this context. The online fields studied were three fan pages of independent bands from the cities of São Luis and Teresina. To implement the study, several methods were combined in the netnographic research, among them: direct participant observation in social networking sites, face-to-face interviews, observation - with a specific target - and archival data collections (taken from social network pages of analyzed bands). As a sample, we have had three bands from the independent music scene of the cities aforementioned, whose representatives were interviewed in person at the data collection stage. To analyze the research data, we have followed the proposed criteria for the netnographic study and associated it with two other methods: interviewing analysis and network conversation analysis. After this walkthrough, our study identified, in relation to the analyzed bands, the strategies employed in social networking sites in view of fans' participation and engagement, aiming at achieving network popularity. We also analyzed the difficulties and challenges that the independent musicians of our research have faced in order to circulate their art in cyberspace; we have pointed out that this fact is associated to control mechanisms of the traditional media that are occupying the virtual space. Therefore, the so-called network neutrality can be a utopia that is further and further away from being achieved. Our study is interdisciplinary and the analysis bases are the communication sciences and the computer-mediated communication (CMC), since they are a constituent and decisive part of new habits, sociability manners and social relationship practices, merged into the day-to-day basis of billions of people.

This thesis begins with the recognition that social network games offer spaces for participants to reflect on their identities. In them, users identify themselves and shape their profiles to be recognized and to interact with other players. Our objective focuses on understanding how these identities are configured and how they reflect the gamer in their own games. The theoretical discussion includes key concepts such as identity and online games, the visualisation of identities in cyberspace, the forms online games and cultural mediations take and the technical skills related to these games. The social network games were contextualized from their social and historical aspects, present situation, media environments and dynamic possibilities. Our empirical research is grounded on a construction of types of games based on terms of possibilities for identity construction, which includes "World Construction" games that stimulate the customization of environments and "World Participation" games, which encourage competition with actors of the social network. We chose to use a netnography methodology, developed in games within each category: Farmville and SongPop (respectively), as well as interviews with a sample of players. The results show the existence of elements in the game that are able to offer places to the development of social appropriation (avatars, virtual goods, social interactions and virtual territory), indicators of identity facets of these subjects. Through them, we realized the existence of identity matrices in social network games (random, competitive, descriptive and evaluative) capable of directing the way individual and collective construct these subjects even before they have contact with these appropriation places in the games. The implications of this study reveal the existence of two ways of affecting users that arises not only from the structure of the games, but mainly from creative spaces where subjects manifest their identities. Through them, the social gamers not only reveal traces of themselves, but also seem to incorporate new identity facets of these constructs derived in the game to their self, which suggests an important role of these ludic and virtual environments in the identity constitution of the subject.

SOCIAL NETWORKING: CREATING A SOCIETY OF NARCISSISTS OR HELPING PEOPLE REACH SELF-ACTUALIZATION?

Munakash, Kris E 01 March 2016 (has links)
Social networking sites (SNSs) are growing in popularity and diversity. Prior research has shown that SNSs use is correlated with various personality traits including narcissism. To date, no work has examined the association between SNSs use and self-actualization. Given the potential overlap of narcissism and self-actualization, the goal of the present study was to first examine the conceptual overlap of these two intrapersonal characteristics. We then sought to examine the associations between SNSs use, narcissism, and self-actualization with an expectation that self-actualization would mediate the association between SNSs use and narcissism. One thousand six hundred and four adults completed an online survey with questions to assess their demographic traits, SNSs activities, and personality characteristics. Results indicated some overlap between narcissism and self-actualization; but, in general, each was a distinct personality trait. Results also demonstrated that the association between self-actualization and SNSs usage was not significant. Contrary to our prediction, self-actualization did not mediate the association between SNSs activities and narcissism. Finally, the study found that narcissism scores were reportedly higher after using SNSs than they were prior to SNSs use.

Analysis of the Communication Characteristics of Nonprofit Organizations’ Facebook Pages in Taiwan

Victor Stevenson Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis examines the use of Facebook pages by nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in Taiwan. The sample for this study was constructed using the official list of Taiwanese NPOs found on the Internet site Taiwan NGO (www.taiwanngo.tw), held by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (TAIWAN). A total of 99 NPOs’ Facebook pages were content analyzed, therefore this thesis used primary data. The theory used to analyze the use of the social networking site by the NPOs was the Five Dialogical Principles of the Internet proposed by Kent and Taylor (1998). Firstly, it was found that some categories of NPOs are over-represented while others are under-represented. Secondly, it was found that very little influences the way NPOs communicate on their Facebook pages. Finally, it was discovered that associations seldom interact with their users, they don not respond or comment on users’ posts or comments; associations typically do not talk directly to their fans. A global image of the use of Facebook pages by NPOs in Taiwan is given. Finally, it was found that NPOs used Facebook pages very randomly. None of the variables seem to dictate the quality of the page.

Disclosing Personal Information to Social Networking Site Providers : The role of trust, risk and perceived benefits

Ghamari, Nima, Mellbin, Lovisa January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is set to investigate the factors that affect the intention to disclose personal information to SNS providers. The purpose of this study is to identify factors and how these factors affect the behavioral intention to disclose personal information to SNS from a new angle of analysis, namely through a user-to-organizational approach. By examining this phenomenon in a new context, this study seeks to provide an understanding of this phenomenon in a new setting and test if previous research can be used to explain the stated behavioral intention. With this argumentation in mind, the thesis aims to contribute to existing theory in consumer behavior, social networking sites, privacy concerns and personal information disclosure. In order to do so this paper is built on a quantitative research approach where the main research strategy is based on the results of a questionnaire. Through the questionnaire, a proposed framework was tested in order to identify factors affecting peoples’ intentions to disclose personal information to SNS providers. The model was built upon the structure of privacy calculation theory, which has been proven to identify intentions to disclose personal information in online settings. The results show that the factors that significantly affect behavioral intentions are trusting beliefs and self-presentations. They are factors leading to personal information disclosure to SNS providers. Limitations of this study is that it suffers a sampling restrictions due to its sampling of only Swedish inhabitants. This paper is the first to develop and empirically test an integrated model of personal information disclosure to SNS, taking on a user-to-organizational approach to privacy. Since SNS are financially evaluated by number of active users of their SNS it is crucial to understand the factors that affect consumers’ intention to disclose their personal information. From the empirical findings, this study proved that trust and self-presentation determine the intentions to disclose personal information to SNS providers. The results shows a discrepancy of existing literature, explaining differences between user-to-user and user-to-organizational context, and thus broadening the context of personal disclosure in the SNS realm. Practitioners can, by using the insights, tailor their strategies in order to maximize the efforts of affecting potential users’ to disclose their personal information, which SNS providers are dependent upon.

Towards a Privacy-enhanced Social Networking Site

Ho, Ai Thanh 04 1900 (has links)
The rise of Social Networking Sites (SNS), such as Facebook, Myspace, and LinkedIn has provided a platform for individuals to easily stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues and actively encourage their users to share personal information. With the wealth of activities available on SNS, the amount and variety of personal information shared is considerable and diverse. Additionally, due to its digital nature, this information can be easily copied, modified and disclosed without the explicit consent of their owner. Personal information disclosed from SNS could affect users’ life, with privacy risks ranging from simple embarrassment to ruining their reputation, or even identity theft. Unfortunately, many users are not fully aware of the danger of divulging their personal information and the current privacy solutions are not flexible and thorough enough to protect user data. Furthermore, even though users of SNS can control access to their own profile, they cannot control what others may reveal about them. Friends can sometimes be untrustworthy and disclose more information about the user than they should. Considering that privacy is a fundamental right for every individual, in this thesis, we present an approach that increases privacy awareness of the users and maintains the sovereignty of their data when using SNS. The first contribution of this thesis is the classification of multiple types of risks as well as user expectations regarding privacy in SNS. Afterwards, we introduce the Privacy Framework for SNS and the concept of User Privacy Policy (UPP) to offer users an easy and flexible way to specify and communicate their privacy concerns to other users, third parties and SNS provider. Additionally, we define a taxonomy (possibly non-exhaustive) of privacy criteria that can enhance the user privacy if they are integrated within the design of a SNS and introduce the concept of a Privacy-enhanced SNS (PSNS). Furthermore, we present also Privacy Watch, a theoretical proposal of a PSNS platform that combines the concept of provenance and accountability to help SNS users maintain sovereignty over their personal data. Finally, we survey and compare several privacy-enhanced SNS that were recently proposed that try to integrate some privacy features directly into the design of the system. We also classify these different approaches with respect to the privacy criteria developed.
