Este trabalho teve como meta elaborar uma análise bibliográfica sobre dois temas pertinentes na prática teológica e psicológica, que são a Síndrome de Down e a Resiliência. Para tanto, elaboramos o primeiro capítulo analisando a Síndrome de Down, com suas questões genéticas, diagnósticas e orientações à família e aos cuidadores. No segundo capítulo, buscamos referências sobre a Resiliência e seu impacto nas pessoas. Entendemos que é uma característica recebida e adquirida, então um instrumento de esperança. Finalizamos descrevendo os benefícios do exercício da Resiliência para as famílias com portadores de Síndrome de Down, a relevância da família, exemplos práticos da Resiliência no Velho e no Novo Testamento e na atualidade e qual o perfil psicológico dos indivíduos resilientes, lembrando que esse despertar da Resiliência pode ser promovido não somente pelos profissionais da área da saúde, mas principalmente nos meios eclesiásticos que, muitas vezes, têm agido com exclusão e preconceito e não com amor, generosidade e cuidado aos mais necessitados. Quando uma família com um portador de Síndrome de Down é acolhida e aceita na Igreja, verdadeiramente estamos cumprindo o segundo mandamento de Jesus Cristo: amar o próximo como a nós mesmos. / The goal of this paper is to elaborate a bibliographic analysis on two themes that are pertinent in the theological and psychological practice, Down syndrome and resilience. For this reason we elaborated the first chapter, analyzing Down syndrome, with its genetic and diagnostic issues and with orientations to the family and the caregivers. In the second chapter we sought out references about resilience and its impact on people. We understand that it is a received and acquired characteristic and therefore an instrument of hope. We finalized our study describing the benefits of the exercise of resilience for the families of persons with Down syndrome, the relevance of the family, practical examples from the Old and New Testament and the present and what the psychological profile of resilient individuals would be, remembering that this awakening of resilience not only can be promoted by professionals in the health area, but principally within ecclesiastic environments that, many times, has acted with exclusion and discrimination and not with love, generosity and caring for the most needy. When a family of a person with Down syndrome is welcomed and accepted in the church, we are truly fulfilling the second commandment of Jesus Christ: love your neighbor as yourself.

Abordagem sobre o contexto histórico, motivação, objetivos, conteúdo e a relevância do trabalho acadêmico, científico e literário de Jilton Moraes de Castro1, no campo religioso da América Latina. O ponto de partida é uma visão histórica dos anos sessenta e setenta, tempo de carência de literatura na área da homilética, quando as cobranças dos alunos para que as anotações das pesquisas apresentadas em sala de aulas fossem transformadas em livro. Descreve como a partir do surgimento do seu primeiro livro, a primeira trilogia em homilética do Brasil foi publicada. Relata, também, a origem de mais cinco livros voltados para a ciência da pregação, formando um total de oito volumes nesta área da teologia prática e da pregação cristã, em particular. Menciona a publicação do livro Homilética: da pesquisa ao púlpito em espanhol.Oferece uma rápida visão de dez novos títulos em preparo, alguns dos quais contando com a contribuição de outros homiletas do Brasil e da América Latina.Menciona a utilidade dos livros escritos por Jilton Moraes de Castro não só no Brasil, mas na América Latina e nos Estados Unidos; e finaliza buscando responder algumas questões pertinentes ao assunto, como: por que e para que pregamos? Qual o lugar da pregação na atualidade? Como pregar a esta geração digital? De que modo a cristocentricidade deve estar presente na pregação cristã? O que caracteriza a pregação protestante no Brasil? A teologia e a prática da pregação no Brasil e na América Latina precisam ser questionadas. / The present text constitutes an overview of the historical context, motivation, objectives, content and relevance of the academic, scientific and literary production of Jilton Moraes de Castro as it concerns the religious field in Latin America. The starting point is a historical view of the sixties and seventies, a time of shortage of literature in the field of Homiletics. As a seminary faculty, the lack of adequate textbook in the classroom coupled with the demands of the students led to the production of the needed textbook. Next, it describes how, after the onset of the first book a trilogy of Homiletics followed. Thirdly, it recounts the origin of five books geared toward the science of preaching, yielding a total of eight volumes in this area of practical theology and Christian preaching, in particular. In the fourth place, it points out to the publication of Homiletics: from research to the pulpit, in Spanish. Fifth, the text provides a glimpse of ten new titles in the pipeline, some of which with input from other researchers on the subject from Brazil and Latin America. Next to last, it mentions the usefulness of the literature published by Jilton Moraes de Castro reaching his birth country, Latin America and the United States of America. Finally, the text concludes with an attempt to answer some questions relevant to the subject: why and what we preach? What is the place of preaching today? As preach this digital generation? How to cristocentricidade must be present in Christian preaching? What characterizes the protestant preaching in Brazil? The theology and practice of preaching in Brazil and Latin America need to be questioned.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Este trabalho explora temas relacionados ao movimento criacionista e sua tensa relação com a teoria da evolução biológica de Charles Darwin a partir da noção popular atualmente difundida de que os conceitos de criação e evolução seriam mutuamente excludentes. O trabalho busca revisar a bibliografia especializada de forma a investigar se tal dicotomia é necessária e/ou epistemologicamente obrigatória, ou seja, se o teísmo ou o cristianismo levam obrigatoriamente a uma rejeição da teoria da evolução, evidenciando um real conflito entre ciência e religião. Para isso, o estudo parte de uma caracterização das diferentes posições criacionistas e evolucionistas e de um breve histórico do movimento criacionista até os dias atuais. No segundo capítulo, exploramos a maneira criacionista de entender hermeneuticamente o livro do Gênesis, tentando apontar os entraves que fazem com que esta visão entre em conflito com a ciência. Após, analisamos o que a teologia através de esforços hermenêuticos tem a dizer sobre o Gênesis, e o que as pesquisas revelam sobre a compreensão do cosmos do povo que escreveu o primeiro livro da Bíblia. Finalmente, no capítulo três, analisaremos as formas de relação que têm sido sugeridas para abordar o binômio ciência/religião e quais pontes de interação podem ser estabelecidas entre a teologia e a ciência evolucionista a partir desta reflexão. Concluiremos indicando o caminho que entendemos ser o mais frutífero para a superação da noção de conflito entre as duas áreas. Este caminho inclui o reconhecimento da natureza teológica e não científica do relato da criação, a separação necessária entre a física e a metafísica ao analisar-se qualquer achado da ciência moderna, e o redescobrimento da doutrina da criação. / This work explores themes related to the creationist movement and its tense relationship with the theory of biological evolution of Charles Darwin, starting from the widespread notion that the concepts of creation and evolution are mutually incompatible. The work aims at reviewing the specialized bibliography in order to investigate if such dichotomy is necessary and/or epistemologically mandatory, that is, whether or not theism or Christianity lead to an obligatory rejection of the theory of evolution, making evident a real conflict between science and religion. To accomplish that, the study begins with a characterization of the different creationist and evolutionist positions and with a brief historical background of the creationist movement up to these days. In the second chapter, we explore the creationist manner of hermeneutically understanding the book of Genesis, trying to point out the obstacles that make this particular view to be in conflict with science. Then, we analyze what theology, through its hermeneutical efforts, has to say about Genesis, and what the research reveals about the understanding of the Cosmos of the people who wrote the first book of the Bible. Finally, in the third chapter, we analyze the forms of relationship that have been suggested to approach the science/religion controversy and what interaction bridges can be established between theology and evolutionary science from this discussion. We conclude by indicating the path we believe to be the most fruitful for overcoming the notion of conflict between the two fields. This path includes the recognition of the theological, and not scientific, nature of the creation account, the necessary separation between physics and metaphysics when analyzing any finding of modern science and the rediscovery of the doctrine of creation.

Nas últimas décadas, muito se tem revisto e estudado sobre a história das mulheres, todavia, apesar de inúmeros estudos sobre a mulher alemã do século XIX, pouco se analisa a respeito da mulher descendente alemã na atualidade, calcada nos saberes trazidos de seus antepassados. A presente dissertação procura lançar o desafio de rememorar e trazer a tona o cotidiano das mulheres da comunidade rural de Rio da Ilha, por intermédio da análise de entrevistas. Este estudo é de grande valia para os estudos históricos atuais, não só pelo fato de serem descendentes de uma etnia que contribuiu de maneira importante para desenvolvimento da região sul, mas também por revelarem informações sobre como as mulheres participaram do processo de apropriação e cultivo no meio rural entre os séculos XX e XXI e a preservação da cultura e dos costumes herdados dos primeiros imigrantes. Tem como referencial a discussão sobre as representações produzidas e difundidas pelas mulheres inseridas no contexto rural desta comunidade a partir de três focos centrais: trabalho, família e religiosidade. / In the last decades, much has been reviewed and studied about the history of women, however in spite of innumerable studies about the German woman of the 19th century, little has been analyzed with regard to the woman descendant of Germans in current times, rooted in the knowledge brought by her ancestors. This thesis seeks to lay out the challenge of remembering and bringing to light the daily life of the women in the rural community of Rio da Ilha through the analysis of interviews. This study is of great value for current historical studies, not just for the fact of being descendants of an ethnic group which contributed in a very important way to the development of the southern regions, but also because they reveal information about how the women participated in the process of appropriation and cultivation in the rural environment between the 20th and 21st centuries and about the preservation of the culture and customs inherited from the first immigrants. It has as a referential the discussion about the representations produced and divulged by the women inserted in the rural context of this community based on three central foci: work, family and religiosity.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O presente trabalho tem por objetivo entender a História e a Teologia da Tradição de Matriz Africana estruturada no estado do Rio Grande do Sul e chamada de Batuque. Busca compreender como o Batuque sofreu a sua destituição epistemológica; atribui sentidos e propósitos aos rituais dessa tradição a partir de uma reflexão teológica fundamentada numa epistemologia interdisciplinarizada afrocentrada e pós-colonializada; dá-nos a conhecer a história dessa tradição, desde suas origens africanas até a reestruturação local; auxilia tanto pesquisadores sobre o tema quanto profissionais na área de educação, sobretudo no campo da Teologia, das Ciências da Religião e do Ensino Religioso; assim como municiar os vivenciadores do Batuque, os batuqueiros, que, devido à perseguição histórica, acabaram por ter seus saberes ancestrais destituídos com o epistemicídio engendrado pelo colonialismo do homem branco. Esta dissertação ocupa quatro capítulos. No primeiro tratamos da tradição africana na sua relação com sua história e cultura. No segundo falamos dos africanos traficados para o Brasil durante o sistema escravista, como se deu o processo diaspórico e a estruturação no Rio Grande do Sul. No terceiro esmiuçaremos a perseguição sistemática a essa tradição: o epistemicídio. O quarto capítulo versará sobre a Afroteologia, seus pressupostos metodológicos e tentativa de sistematização. / The goal of this paper is to understand the history and the theology of the Traditions of African Origin structured in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and called Batuque. It seeks to comprehend how Batuque underwent it epistemological destitution; it attributes meanings and purposes to the rituals of this tradition based on a theological reflection founded on an interdisciplinary, Afrocentric and post-colonial epistemology; it grants us knowledge of this tradition from its African origins up to the local restructuring; it helps researchers on the theme as well as professionals in the area of education, especially in the fields of Theology, Sciences of Religion and Religious Education; it also gives tools to those who live out Batuque, the batuqueiros, who, due to historical persecution, had their ancestral knowledge destitute with the epistemicide devised by the colonialism of the white man. This thesis has four chapters. In the first we deal with the African tradition in its relation with its history and culture. In the second we talk of the Africans who were trafficked to Brazil during the slave system, about how the diaspora process took place and the restructuring in Rio Grande do Sul. In the third we detail the systematic persecution of this tradition: the epistemicide. The fourth chapter will discourse about Afrotheology, its methodological presuppositions and attempts at systematization.

Esta dissertação é um estudo sobre institucionalização e adoção de crianças. Encontra-se dividida em quatro capítulos. No primeiro deles, o autor expõe as causas e tipos de institucionalização, o processo legal da adoção e seus entraves. O segundo e o terceiro capítulos constituem o núcleo desta pesquisa; no segundo é enfocada a teoria da vinculação mãe-filho, a possibilidade de substituição desse vínculo natural, e os efeitos da não vinculação da criança a uma figura específica. Ali, nossa referência principal será o psiquiatra e psicanalista John Bowlby. No terceiro capítulo encontramos, através da pena paulina, em especial de sua Epístola a Filemom, o alicerce teológico para a prática da adoção e do protesto em favor das crianças institucionalizadas. No quarto e último capítulo são analisadas algumas histórias de adoção, cujos efeitos são contrapostos aos danos psíquicos da institucionalização. / This dissertation is a study of institutionalization and adoption of children. It is divided into four chapters. In the first, the author exposes the causes and types of institutionalization, the legal process of adoption and its obstacles. The second and third chapters constitute the core of this research; the second is focused on the theory of the mother-child bond, the possibility of replacing the natural bond, and the effects of not bonding the child to a specific figure. There, our main reference is the psychiatrist and psychoanalyst John Bowlby. In the third chapter we find, through the Pauline pen, specially through his Epistle to Philemon, the theological foundation for the practice of adoption and protest in favor of institutionalized children. In the fourth and final chapter we analyze some stories of adoption, the effects of which counterpose the psychic damage of institutionalization.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Uma análise do atual discurso teológico-musical presente no espaço do culto da Igreja Presbiteriana Independente de Botucatu IPIBot é o objeto deste trabalho. Este discurso demonstra aspectos híbridos na estrutura litúrgica desta igreja, aspectos estes oriundos tanto do universo musical quanto teológico, e que entendemos serem característicos da cultura pós-moderna. A presença de outras expressões artísticas, que não somente o canto ou instrumento, como por exemplo, o órgão, neste caso a arte circense e a dança, ambas no espaço do culto, apontam para transformações na cultura litúrgica e talvez em novas formas de expressão da igreja como um todo. A análise destes elementos presentes no culto da IPIBot foi feita por meio de levantamento histórico e litúrgico através de boletins e documentos da igreja, bem como da participação da autora como membro da mesma. A IPIBot assimilou em parte a chamada cultura gospel como forma de sobrevivência diante da multiplicidade de igrejas no universo religioso atual, sem perder o contato com a tradição, seu principal instrumento para conferir a identidade presbiteriana reformada que lhe é peculiar. Desta forma, caracteriza-se o hibridismo como uma estratégia de adaptação à pós-modernidade sem, no entanto, gerar novas formas litúrgicas que se constituam como modelo de igreja. Caracteriza-se o discurso musical como principal elemento catalisador deste hibridismo, formador de um imaginário teológico-musical que sustenta a tradição junto à nova tendência pós-moderna e que confere identidade à IPIBot. Desta forma, esperamos contribuir para a reflexão do papel da música no culto como espaço de múltiplas faces, formador deste imaginário e das transformações pela renovação teológica, averiguando as possibilidades e limites para uma renovação litúrgica brasileira, dentro e fora do âmbito das igrejas de origem reformada. / Defining as hybrid and intrinsic to the post-modernity the question of the current theological-musical speech practiced in the Independent Presbyterian Church of Botucatu IPCBOT, besides being essential to this comprehension, it becomes plausible when revealed to the musical reality in the churches and the theological ways that surround the liturgy in the Christian cult space. As an heiress of the reformation during the XVI century, and in Brazil, consequence of the North-American Presbyterian missions, the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil (IPCB) obtained its own identity in 1903, when a schism divided the Presbyterian Church (PC), originating the IPCB. At the first chapter, it is delineated the history of the IPCB and its liturgical structure, as well as the musical groups currently acting in this church. At the second chapter it was aimed to understand the mainly concepts that guide the defense of the hybridism process present in the theological-musical imaginary construction in the IPIBOT. At the third chapter it was developed a brief panorama of the theological and musical movements, which supported by the ideal dialogue of the church with the culture and social reality of the country, culminated in the current liturgical reality of the church, the intimacy with the reformed Presbyterian identity and the gospel culture. At the fourth and last chapter, it was approached, analyzing the theological-musical speech, the possibility of the imaginary that these days confers identity to the IPCBOT as a hybridism result, by the tripartite analysis of the musical work, methodologically supported on the musical semiology propose of Jacques Nattiez and Jean Molino. In this respect, based on the theological-musical speech, it is expected that this research contributes for the reflection of the music mission in a cult as a space of multiple facets, former of this imaginary and the transformations via the theological renovation, inquiring the possibilities and limits for a Brazilian liturgical improvement, inside and outside the reformed churches.

A depressão é um dos transtornos, condições e estados mais frequentes entre a humanidade contemporânea, tanto assim que foi chamada de resfriado da psicopatologia. Vivemos em tempos de depressões. Essa sua prevalência faz com que se imponha como uma das situações mais desafiadoras na sociedade atual, revelando, assim, a necessidade de alternativas que sejam metodologicamente refletidas e aprofundadas pelas mais variadas áreas do saber, especialmente as das Ciências Humanas. Na área da teologia, optamos no presente trabalho pelo aconselhamento pastoral. Isso porque o mesmo tem a sua principal inquietação e interação relacionada com o sofrimento humano, seja ele individual ou coletivo. Nesse sentido, o aconselhamento pastoral, que tem como base a fé cristã e a comunidade eclesial como espaço terapêutico de cuidado, apresenta preciosas ferramentas que, como ação prática e metodologicamente refletida, visam interagir, entender e intervir também no que se passa com quem está sofrendo por depressão. Conseguintemente, a presente pesquisa analisa como a poimênica e o aconselhamento pastoral podem se desenvolver como formas de cuidado com pessoas em situação de depressão. Para tanto, averigua as principais implicações, influências e características das depressões e dos estados de depressividade na vida humana, e o faz especialmente através de contribuições das áreas da Psiquiatria e da Psicologia, estabelecendo, assim, um diálogo interdisciplinar de ambas com a teologia, na construção e no aperfeiçoamento daquilo que envolve a tarefa do saber cuidar. A presente dissertação está ligada especialmente à área da Teologia Prática, mais especificamente ao cuidado, à poimênica e ao aconselhamento pastoral com pessoas fragilizadas pelas mais diversas formas de depressões, sejam elas visíveis ou invisíveis, mantendo-se firme na busca por promoção de vida digna, transformada e liberta. / Depression is one of the most frequent disorders, conditions and states within contemporary humanity, so much so that it has been called the psychopathology cold. We live in times of depressions. This prevalence has caused it to impose itself as one of the most challenging situations in current society, thus revealing the need for alternatives which are methodologically reflected upon and deepened in the various areas of knowledge, especially the Human Sciences. In the area of theology, we have opted to focus this present work on pastoral counseling. This because it has its main concerns and interactions related to human suffering, be it individual or collective. In this sense pastoral counseling, which has as a base the Christian faith and the ecclesial community as a therapeutic space of care, presents precious tools, which, as a practical and methodologically reflected action, aim at also interacting, understanding and intervening in what goes on with the person suffering with depression. Therefore, the present research analyzes how pastoral care and pastoral counseling can be developed as ways of caring for people in situations of depression. For this, it verifies the main implications, influences and characteristics of depressions and the states of depression in human life and it does this especially through contributions from the areas of psychiatry and psychology, thus establishing an interdisciplinary dialog of both of these with theology in the construction and improving that which involves the task of knowing how to care for someone. This present thesis is especially tied to the area of Practical Theology, more specifically to caring, pastoral care and pastoral counseling of people weakened by various forms of depression, be they visible or invisible, maintaining itself firm in seeking the promotion of a dignified, transformed and liberated life.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / A presente dissertação visa contribuir com a temática do espaço e lugar de culto cristão, realizando uma ampla pesquisa sobre o espaço e o lugar vivencial e experiencial do ser humano no mundo que ele habita e ocupa. Esta pesquisa encontra-se ancorada dentro da área de pesquisa da teologia prática e da ciência litúrgica, a partir da qual se dará a investigação sobre a relação do ser humano com a liturgia e a arquitetura e sua influência e apreensão para dentro do culto cristão. Para tanto, partimos da discussão e da análise da evolução do conceito de espaço, sobretudo a partir da Idade Média até a atualidade. Analisamos a relação do ser humano com o espaço e o lugar que ela/ele ocupa no mundo, através dos conceitos de espaço vivenciado e experiencial. E através da teologia de Martim Lutero e da pesquisa de Mircea Eliade, sobre o sagrado e o profano, examinamos a relação sagrada e humana que ocorre no espaço sagrado. A partir dessa base, procuramos entender de que maneira ocorre a relação humana no espaço experiencial estrito da igreja (lugar de culto), averiguando de que modo acontece a relação arquiteta/o e obra arquitetônica e o modo com que ela/ele usa sua autonomia para planejar e construir o espaço litúrgico. Averiguaremos as formas com que o ser humano percebe e apreende o espaço e de que forma o corpo e a corporeidade humana relacionam-se no âmbito da igreja. Preocupados com o que se tem nomeado de não lugares, investigaremos se o lugar de culto também apresenta características de não lugar. A partir da temática sacramental e litúrgica no e com o lugar de culto, nosso foco está em entender de que forma o anúncio da Palavra de Deus e os sacramentos batismo e eucaristia são definidores espaciais do lugar de culto, ou seja, da nossa casa no tempo e no espaço. Por fim, analisaremos a relação entre liturgia e arquitetura. Apresentamos e definimos etapas que devem ser observadas quando uma comunidade pretende construir, reformar e/ou adaptar o seu lugar de culto. Além de definirmos princípios e critérios que as comunidades, as/os ministras/os e as/os arquitetas/as devem refletir ao longo da construção e reforma. / This thesis aims to contribute to the theme of the space and place of Christian worship, carrying out a broad research about the living and experiential space and place of the human being in the world which s/he inhabits and occupies. This research is anchored within the research area of practical theology and of liturgical science, on which the investigation of the relation of the human being with liturgy and architecture and its influence and apprehension into Christian worship will be based. For this we begin with the discussion and analysis of the evolution of the concept of space, particularly from the Middle Ages up to the present. We analyze the relation of the human being with the space and place s/he occupies in the world through the concepts of lived and experiential space. And through Martin Luthers theology and from Mircea Eliades research about the sacred and the profane, we examine the sacred and human relation which takes place in the sacred space. Based on this we seek to understand the manner in which the human relation occurs in the experiential space strictly of the church (place of worship), checking out how the architect relates with the architectural work and the way in which s/he uses her/his autonomy to plan and construct the liturgical space. We will check out the ways in which the human being perceives and takes in the space and how the body and human corporeity relate within the church ambiance. Concerned with what has been called non-places we will investigate if the place of worship also presents characteristics of a non-place. Based on the sacramental and liturgical theme within and with the place of worship, our focus is to understand how the announcement of the Word of God and the sacraments Baptism and Eucharist are spatial definers of the place of worship, that is, of our house in time and space. Finally, we will analyze the relation between liturgy and architecture. We present and define stages which should be observed when a congregation intends to build, refurbish and/or adapt its place of worship, besides defining principles and criteria which the congregations, the ministers, and the architects should reflect upon throughout all of the construction and refurbishment.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / A tese se propõe a analisar o cemitério como espaço de expressão e preservação da memória identitária do imigrante teuto no sul do Brasil, através da interpretação dos elementos simbólicos religiosos contidos nas lápides, bem como de sua estrutura espacial e organizacional. A pesquisa foi construída a partir de extensa revisão bibliográfica, da pesquisa de campo aos cemitérios localizados em comunidades de origem teuta no Rio Grande do Sul e nos cemitérios da Alemanha. O primeiro capítulo se ocupou com a definição de túmulo bem como a relação do indivíduo com a finitude e suas representações funerárias. O segundo apresenta o cemitério como local de memória e identidade, através do estudo das fontes de informação artísticas, sociais, culturais e ideológicas contidas nestes, de forma a identificar a construção de uma ou mais identidades culturais. O terceiro capítulo estabelece um quadro teórico sobre a construção do imaginário europeu sobre a morte e os cemitérios, e de que forma isso é representado materialmente nos túmulos, analisando as características religiosas católica e protestante expressas na simbologia cemiterial entre 1824, no início da imigração alemã para o Brasil, até 1930, período que marca o final destas expressões transculturais nos túmulos. Por fim, o último capítulo estabelece um estudo comparativo entre os cemitérios dos imigrantes teutos no sul do Brasil e dos cemitérios de seu país de origem, a Alemanha, buscando definir quais elementos simbólicos revelam a manutenção de uma identidade religiosa teuta expressa nos símbolos e nos epitáfios, de forma a analisar a construção de uma ou mais identidades culturais preservadas nos cemitérios teutos do Rio Grande do Sul. / The dissertation proposes to analyze the cemetery as a space of expression and preservation of the German identity memory in southern Brazil, through the interpretation of religious symbolic elements contained on the tombstones as well as of their spatial and organizational structure. The research was built on extensive bibliographic review and on field research of the cemeteries localized in communities of German origin in Rio Grande do Sul and in the cemeteries of Germany. The first chapter occupies itself with the definition of tomb as well as with the relation of the individual with finitude and its funerary representations. The second chapter presents the cemetery as a place of memory and identity, through the study of sources of artistic, social, cultural and ideological information contained in these so as to identify the construction of one or more cultural identities. The third chapter establishes a theoretical framework about the construction of the European imagery about death and cemeteries and in what way this is represented materially on the tombs, analyzing the Catholic and Protestant religious characteristics expressed in cemetery symbology between 1824, the beginning of the German immigration to Brazil, up to 1930, the period which marks the end of these trans-cultural expressions on the tombs. Finally, the last chapter establishes a comparative study between the cemeteries of the German immigrants in southern Brazil and the cemeteries of their country of origin, Germany, seeking to define which symbolic elements reveal the maintenance of a German religious identity expressed in the symbols and in the epitaphs so as to analyze the construction of one or more cultural identities preserved in the German cemeteries of Rio Grande do Sul.
