Kocak, Furkan-Sami January 2020 (has links)
Sweden has during many years received weak results in mathematics in different international surveys. During my placement experience at a high school, I noticed that mathematics 2b was a major challenge for the high school, where approximately 83% of all students who wrote the national exam received an F in 2019. The high school considered that extra adjustments in the form of adapted teaching materials were necessary for the students with an F. Therefore I created a teaching material for those students. The purpose was to create a teaching material for mathematics 2b to enable the students to pass the national exam. The teaching material was based on previous national exams and the types of questions that had occurred most often. Motivation is an important factor in mathematics teaching. Motivation can be divided into intrinsic and external motivation. Intrinsic motivation is about self-motivation, while external motivation is about being rewarded by another person and getting motivated by this. A study conducted in the United States shows that motivation is more important than intelligence to succeed in mathematics. There is also a strong connection between self-confidence and grades in mathematics. The educational material was tested on 15 students who had received an F in the course during two weeks in the form of a summer school. The educational material was evaluated by feedback from the students based on qualitative interviews via Google meet focusing on how the material affected their motivation and self-confidence. The students also wrote a national test that was corrected. Eight of the fifteen students who attended the summer school and used the teaching material received a passing grade on the national exam. In addition to this, the students also made it clear that the teaching material had a positive impact on their self-confidence and motivation.

Transforming Education into Chatbot Chats : The implementation of Chat-GPT to prepare educational content into a conversational format to be used for practicing skills / Omvandla utbildningsmaterial till chattbot-samtal : Implementeringen av Chat-GPT för att förbereda utbildningsmaterial till konversationsbaserat format för inlärnings syften

Wickman, Simon, Zandin, Philip January 2023 (has links)
In this study we explore the possibility of using ChatGPT, to summarise large contents of educational content and put it in a template that later can be used for dialogue purposes and will explore the challenges and solutions that occur during the implementation. Today there is a problem for users to create wellmade prompts for learning scenarios that fulfill all the requirements set by the user. This problem is significant as it addresses the challenges of information overload and how generating prompts for dialogue purposes can be trivialized for users. We solved this problem by doing an implementation for the company Fictive Reality in their application, conducting research, and performing tests. The implementation was made with the help of OpenAI’s application programming interface, ChatGPT-4 which is a model that is popular due to its wide range of domain knowledge, and we connected it to a web page where users could upload text or audio files. The method to find a suitable prompt to summarise text was primarily through experimentation supported by previous research. We used automatic metrics for evaluation like ROUGE, BERTScore, and ChatGPT(Self-Evaluation), we also had users give feedback on the implementation and quality of the result. This study shows that ChatGPT effectively summarizes extensive educational content and transforms it into dialogue templates for ChatGPT to use. The research demonstrates streamlined and improved prompt creation, addressing the challenges of information overload. The efficiency and quality were either equal to or surpassed user-generated prompts while preserving almost relevant information, and reduced the time-consumption of this task by a substantial margin. The biggest struggle we had was getting ChatGPT to grasp our instructions. However, with research and with an iterative approach the process became much smoother. ChatGPT exhibits robust potential for enhancing educational prompt generation. Future work could be dedicated to improving the prompt further, by making it more flexible.

I learn more when I can act and watch images and not just read : A study of design for learning and design in learning in the educational material The Bible Adventure from a multimodal perspective

Ödman, Sofia January 2017 (has links)
This study analyses, from a multimodal, design theoretical perspective, the design for learning in the educational material Bibeläventyret Gamla testamentet (The Bible Adventure – The Old Testament). The aim is to display the modes that are used in the design for learning in Bibeläventyret Gamla testamentet and the meaning that is offered in learning by semiotic resources of these modes. The study also presents the involvement that the students show, as a sign of transformation. Transformation refers to how the students start to process offered meaning and form it into knowledge. The study was conducted in 4th grade classes in a Swedish compulsory school and is based on video observations of two hours of teaching, field notes and the analysis of the teaching material. The study shows that teaching Bibeläventyret Gamla testamentet is multimodally conducted with many different modes and artefacts, where some bear more meaning and others are more supportive. The spatial opportunities of the classroom, the oral narrative of the instructor, including prosody in talk, body movements, gesture and gaze, as well as the students’ involvement in meaning making are used variously. The study shows that the multimodal design offers a significant meaning for learning and the involvement of the students shows how they make an initial transformation and formation of new knowledge. Previous research points to major signs of learning in multimodal environments, where digital media is often included. This study contributes to previous research in showing that many more modes can be used and combined multimodally at the same time compared to what is usually done and so extend the learning possibility particularly in teaching Bibeläventyret Gamla testamentet.

Fahlesson, Susanne, Bergelin, Agneta January 2019 (has links)
Abstract   This thesis is a qualitative case study that aims to increase the knowledge about students’ perceptions of participation when using digital educational tools. The methods used in this case study are image analysis and group interviews. The participants in this study came from a school in the north of Sweden. There where 18 students from grade 4 and 3 of their teachers participating.   Aim: The overarching aim of the study was to increase knowledge about students’ perception of participation when using digital educational tools. The perception of participation was evaluated from three angles: How do the students perceive that the digital educational material affects their participation? How are the students describing the use of digital educational tools in school? How are the teachers describing the use of digital educational tools in school?   Method: The methods used in this study where: Student´s images and group interviews. There were also additional conversations with the students in conjunction of the creation of the images and texts. Group interviews were conducted at two points in time with the teachers, one before the analysis of the student´s pictures and one after. Image analysis by using participation model was done on the students own images and texts.   Results: In the images the students expressed that it was fun and easier to write on the computer. Many of the students also described that is was easier with digital educational tools as they only need to bring one thing (the computer). The challenges they described where when the Wi-Fi connection was not working and some of them mentioned that it was hard to navigate the digital tool in the beginning, but that it was easier after a while. The teachers confirm that the navigation was challenging when the tools was first initiated, especially as multiple new elements were introduced at the same time. However, the teachers were unsure if that was due to the digital educational tools or due to that it was a new way of working. The majority of the students expressed that it is more fun to work with digital educational tools and computers, compared to regular books. The teacher described the digital educational tools as joyful learning and that it is engaging for those students that normally find the school challenging.  Most of the students also expressed a satisfaction and joy when describing their use of digital educational tools. The teacher described that a major benefit of using digital tools, is the quick feedback with statistics of performed learning exercises that the tools provide to both the student and the teacher. The students reported that they got a sense of autonomy when they can have an impact and themselves decide what they write on the computer. That gives them the opportunity to participate and be able to affect their own learning situation. From a teacher’s point of view, the digital tools stimulate the participation, where the students’ different degree of difficulty on their tasks are not reviled to their classmates.   Conclusion: It was a good choice of method to perform the image analysis because even though the students only created the images at one point in time, the information that the images provided was comprehensive. However, the verbal conversions that was performed in conjunction with the creation of the images were challenging, as it was hard to formulate the questions so that the students fully could describe their perception of participation in their image. This should be considered as the weakness of this method.   During the verbal conversations in conjunction with the creation of the images, the students described their experiences of participation. The group interviews with the teachers that followed, confirmed the students’ descriptions. The results from this qualitative case study may be challenging to transfer and standardise for other student groups as the social situations and learning environments could be different. The results of the study could be useful moving forward as it may be indicative for future educational developments regarding participation, digitalisation and digital educational material. The big difference in the funding for the digital implementation between schools and municipalities is one of the obstacles to ensure equality and the ability to reach the goals that the government have set out for digital strategy in schools. In the end, it is the teachers’ ways of working and their use of the digital educational material that is going to enable an accessible learning environment where the students are included and participating, not the educational tool itself.

Tempo de amor e adaptação: pesquisa participativa para promover a saúde da mulher e do seu filho no pós-parto / \"Time of love and adaptation\": participatory research to promote the health of the woman and her child in the postpartum

Gonçalves, Bruna Goulart 16 December 2016 (has links)
Introduction: In the postpartum period, the women experience several transitions and changes that occur in the physical, emotional, family and social dimensions. These important changes to provoke a latent condition derived from the responsibilities in the marital, family members, and children care scopes. Especially in this stage of female life course, the health education is an important resource to promote health, to prevent complications and to reduce feelings of insecurity and anxiety, which are inherent to the postpartum period. The relevance of this study is justified in this scenario considering its main purpose, to develop an educational support material to promote the womens health and their newborn in the postpartum period. General Objective: To develop an educational support material to promote self-care and postpartum care of their newborn child according to the demands expressed by women who experience this phase of life. Specific Objectives: To explore the educational demands of physical, emotional and social nature of women who experience the experience postpartum and newborn child care; identify the educational demands of husbands/partners related to women\'s care who are postpartum and newborn; to identify strategies for meeting the support needs of physical, emotional and social according to the needs expressed by women who experience postpartum experience and newborn care; draw up an educational material to meet the demand for educational support women who experience postpartum care of the newborn. Methodology: A qualitative research was developed through participatory research. The study setting was the Rio Grande City (RS), Brazil. Twenty-two women living in the immediate postpartum period and nine husbands/partners have participated in this research study. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews done during home visits, and across the three educational workshops with collective participation. All these meetings were integrally audiotaped. These amounts of data were recorded in audio and transcribed in full, and repetitive reading and full of all interviews, coding the interviews by the similarity in the statements of the research subjects and the reflections of the researcher, who prepared themes in order to respond fully to the research question, analyzed this data set. This analysis permitted to elaborate themes to fully answer the research questions. The elaborated themes were used to guide the composition of educational material content. The ethical aspects of research involving humans were being respected according to the recommended in Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council, and the research protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the USP School of Nursing (register number 1,212,765) and University hospital of the Federal University of Rio Grande, RS (register number 167/2015). Results: The themes related to the womens care in the postpartum period were related to episiotomy, cesarean section, loquiation and uterine involution, lower limb edema, gas, food, hygiene, medical consultation return, emotions, adaptations and support needs related to postpartums experiences and the sexuality across the postpartum period. In relation to the newborn care, the themes requested by the women were related to breastfeeding, umbilical stump care, hygiene, skin care, sleep, sob/burp /reflux, colic, intestinal/urinary elimination, clothing and vaccines. Another theme was related to the search for information on the web about self-care and newborn care. Discussion: The postpartum period triggers bodily and emotional changes in women and knowledge of such changes influence on how women experience this phase of life course. During the PP process, women have expressed questions and did reflections about the self-care needs, and their childrens care. Such demands have guided the composition of educational material, which was based on updated scientific evidence. This material has been approved by an expert group as to their scientific content and for some women, as referred to the ease of understanding of language and illustrations. Conclusions: Through the PP, it was revealed that women who were in the immediate postpartum period have many doubts related to self-care and the newborns care. The produced educational material was titled \"Time of love and adaptation: promotion of women\'s health in the postpartum and newborn.\" This title reveals that the postpartum period is a phase of the female life course characterized by the experience of feelings of love, but it is a period of the womens life course demanding professional and family members support. The availability of this support according to the womens own needs and desires is essential for a smooth family and personal adjustment in this important stage of their life course.

O design universal na editoração de material didático como agente motivador e estimulador da autoeficácia para a aprendizagem / The universal design in publication of courseware as motivator factor and stimulator of self-efficacy for learning

Tiziotto, Simone Aparecida 20 May 2013 (has links)
In the context of distance higher education in Brazil, the courseware has figured as one of the main resources in which executes the application of the assumption of universal design for learning, which it is about a template of universalization that propose the offering of \"scaffoldings\" that aim to eliminate the unnecessary barriers, without eliminating the necessary challenges to benefit/provide the learning of the greatest number of students as possible. It is noteworthy that the Motivation and Self Efficacy for Learning has been used in Brazilian works that present as important dimensions of learning. However, there is a shortage of searches that evaluate and measure the actual impact of these dimensions in the learning process permeated by implementations of didactic proposals based on the principles of universal design for learning. The present project has therefore the objective to evaluate the impact of the principles of universal design for learning in the dimensions of motivation and self-efficacy of the learning process in distance higher education courses. Propose the incorporation of principles of the universal design for learning through the implementation of four didactic proposals (reading or listening - female or male voice - text; conventional video lesson or partially acclimated with subtitles; video lesson expectation speed control; board with participation written, spoken or recorded with image and sound) on courseware publication and test its applicability and effectiveness to increase the rates of motivation and self-efficacy for learning. The research is multimodal and is architected as a true experiment, in the template of pre-test/pos-test, using the instruments of Academic Motivation Scale and the Scale of Perceived Academic Self-efficacy for using in a sample of 238 students of EAD courses of a Brazilian Institute of Higher Education. The qualitative and quantitative results presented highlight the potential of universal design to improve rates of self efficacy for learning and motivation, in a proposal that aims more than to allow participation, but enable the success of all!

In the present thesis we are studying the characteristics that can be represented in a user model, we define those that are essential in a student model and we propose an efficient way of representation. We also study the different ways of constructing and updating a student model and the algorithms that can be used in order to implement the most appropriate and efficient of them. The main purpose of the thesis is the development of a student model, with the suitable algorithms, that will support the automated process of adapted educational material provision in an easy and abstract way.

Torrezzan, Cristina Alba Wildt January 2009 (has links)
The present paper aims at generating pedagogic-design-based parameters for the developing of digital educational materials (DEMs). This theme lays on the necessity of developing these materials according to a technical, graphical and pedagogic planning. Primarily, in order to develop this dissertation, a bibliographic research on the main technical, graphic and pedagogic factors involved in the elaboration of digital materials was accomplished. After that, the conceptualization and the objectives of pedagogic design were developed to be used in the elaboration of PEDESIGN learning object (LO). Through the application of the referred LO in two courses, it was accomplished the collection of data which were analyzed and discussed and later originated a table of parameters for the elaboration of pedagogic-design-based digital educational materials. The proposal of such parameters aims at motivating the reflection of teachers, pedagogues, designers and digital educational materials developers on the application of pedagogic design in DEMs.
