Vad gör du med oss, Doktor Glas? : Karaktärsframställning, berättargrepp och effekt i Hjalmar Söderbergs Doktor Glas.

Martinsson, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
Doktor Glas by the Swedish author Hjalmar Söderberg, was published over a hundred years ago, in 1905 in Sweden. Söderberg received both praise and criticism, the latter getting more attention because of the novel's unethical plot about a doctor that murders his patient to save the woman he secretly adores. The aim of this essay is to examine the novel's character description in terms of narrative approach, and the effect it is likely to have on the reader. My theory is that Söderberg "plants" affect and emotion into the character description of the protagonist Glas, and I use narratology as a method to support this theory. In my analysis I present different approaches and techniques that Söderberg uses to portray the novel's main character in order to ensure that Glas will be impossible to categorize psychologically – is he evil, is he good? The description of him makes it impossible to know and it challenges the readers perception of him. My conclusion is that Glas, due to Söderberg's narrative techniques, has become an insoluble riddle that still, a hundred yars after the publication of the novel, fascinates the Swedish literary world.

En religionspsykologisk studie av poeten och mystikern Gunnar Ekelöf : Om poeten som mystiker och poesi som mystikens språk

Wahlström, Emil January 2017 (has links)
With this essay, I mean to investigate if the poetry of the Swedish poet, writer and cultural elitist Gunnar Ekelöf shows signs and meanings of a mystical character. First, I research and compare the theories of Nathan Söderblom, Hjalmar Sundén and Antoon Geels about mysticism and use these in my interpretation of Ekelöfs poetry. It soon becomes clear that Ekelöf is a person with an inner religious reality and in context with the definition of mysticism this essay presents and uses, it goes to show that his poetry can be seen as mystical and furthermore that Ekelöf himself can be considered a mystic. This essay, leads to a discussion about a wider interpretation of mysticism and that mysticism can be seen in poetry.

Wergeland : En historisk djupdykning och renovering av Carl Malmstens soffa Wergeland

Hansen, Ylva January 2019 (has links)

Levander, Samuel January 2021 (has links)
This essay consists of an inquiry into the concepts of “time” and “movement” in Hjalmar Söderberg’s second novel, Martin Bircks ungdom, as well as a discussion of what the consequences of this inquiry are with regards to genre. The analysis is based on close reading, an adaptation of Michail Bachtin’s concept of the “chronotope” and, to a lesser extent, the narratological work of Gérard Genette. Through the analysis an interpretation of the novel is formed. This interpretation is then related to genre theory, especially that of Bachtin and Tommy Olofsson. In the discussion of genre, the results of the textual analysis are found to corroborate the hypothesis that Bachtin’s “novel of experience” is the category and tradition that Martin Bircks ungdom should be placed into.

"Den lyriske hegelianen" : Livsåskådning och världsbild i Hjalmar Gullbergs diktning / "The Lyric Hegelian" : Philosophy and Worldview in the Poetry of Hjalmar Gullberg

Westerlund, Joel January 2018 (has links)
This essay is about the lyric authorship of the Swedish poet Hjalmar Gullberg (1898-1961), who was nicknamed “The Lyric Hegelian” due to his love of paradox. It focuses on certain traits in his authorship in its entirety, with a specific focus on a select number of poems. The primary concerns of this essay are questions of an existential nature raised by Gullberg’s poetry, as well as his poetry’s relation to his time and age. As a member of the Swedish Academy Gullberg was an important literary presence in his day, most likely influencing the outcome of several Nobel Prizes. Gullberg’s poetry is part classicist and part modernist, combining traditional forms with newer ones, and in doing so it bears witness to contemporary society entering a state of modernity. Gullberg held feelings of both appreciation and aversion towards his time and age. His poetry touches upon a multitude of topics and includes motifs that are both ancient and contemporary, and these are combined as the poet searches for meaning in ephemeral existence. The present essay traces the development of an existential worldview and a type of philosophy in the authorship, which are characterised by complexity and uncertainty; these change with time, and this development can be seen in the different collections of poems. A shift can be observed from a spirit of optimism and religiosity towards a contrary mindset of pessimism and disbelief. This essay argues that Gullberg’s authorship is representative of its time and age in the sense that the views expressed in the poetry seem to correlate to the development of society and the general mentality in Sweden and much of Europe during the twentieth century, with regard to the process of secularisation that took place. The poetry of Gullberg leaves us with many questions and few definite answers. However, its value lies in the eloquent treatment that it gives to the subject-matter which is presented, and in that it encourages reflection. Gullberg was a late representative of an older literary tradition and an early representative of a new one; accordingly he embodied an important change in Swedish literary history.

Ernest Thiels beställda verk : En studie om mecenatens estetiska inflytande i konsten / Ernest Thiel's commissioned artworks : A study of a patron's aesthetic influence in the arts

Olsson, Astrid January 2021 (has links)
This essay aims to examine whether the Swedish patron Ernest Thiel had any aesthetic influence on the contemporary art scene in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Based on a selected group of his commissioned artworks, the study analyzes to what extent Thiel was involved in the creative process. The applied method consists of Panofsky’s iconographical- iconological method, a study of primary sources and literature of art history, and a contextual analysis based on Anne D’Alleva’s theory. The chosen method shows that Ernest Thiel was not engaged in the creative process of his commissioned artworks. Correspondence between Thiel and the commissioned artist reveal that Thiel acted more as afinancial patron, leaving the aesthetics to the artist. Rather than providing his own artistic directives, the intention with his commissioned artworks suggests that his aim was to promote and encourage the artists’ own sense of style. Furthermore, this act of patronage illustrates his genuine appreciation for the artist he supported. This study also exposes the lack of knowledge of the portrait “Porträtt av Hjalmar Söderberg” and the artistry of Gerda Wallander, from whom Thiel commissioned his artwork. The study therefore suggests further research of Gerda Wallander’s artistry as well as of Ernest Thiel’s commissioned artworks, since this is uncharted territory in art history.

Helga registrerar, Doktor Glas spekulerar : Intertextualitet i Bjarne Moelvs Helgas offer – dagboksroman om ett brott och Hjalmar Söderbergs Doktor Glas / Helga registers, Doctor Glas speculates : Intertextuality in The victim of Helga – a diary novel about a crime by Bjarne Moelv and Doctor Glas by Hjalmar Söderberg

Kubitsky Torninger, Isabella January 2011 (has links)
