What motivates young adults to work voluntarily?

Hedlund, Clara, Marble, Anna January 2020 (has links)
Non-profit organizations have great importance for Swedish society. In order to make it possible for non-profit organizations to continue contributing, it is important that the organizations are attractive enough to be able to recruit and keep the volunteers since they are essential for the survival of non-profit organizations. Since the non-profit volunteers execute labor without monetary compensation, the question arose regarding their motivation. The purpose of this essay is to examine what motivates young adults to work without monetary compensation. A qualitative method has been used to study this subject, using semi-structured interviews with 14 participants who have worked in a non-profit student association at a college or university in Sweden during the last two years. The results showed five distinctive motivators for the respondents: a sense of belonging, the possibility to make a difference, personal development, career development, and external influence. The collected data was analyzed based on motivation theories and previous studies within the subject. The conclusion of the study is that volunteers in non-profit organizations experience non-monetary compensation, for instance social networking, experience, and personal development.

Law Enforcement Intelligence Recruiting Confidential Informants within “Religion-Abusing Terrorist Networks”

Ucak, Hursit 30 April 2012 (has links)
This study examines the motivation factors that make some individuals (terrorists) confidential informants. The study is based on the assumptions of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theories. Accordingly, main assumption of the present study is that some individuals with unsatisfied needs in religion-abusing terrorist (RAT) networks choose to become confidential informants to satisfy their predominant needs. The main hypothesis for the purpose of this study is “The individuals’ decision-making processes to cooperate with law enforcement intelligence (LEI) as a confidential informant is affected by some motivation factors during recruitment process.” The present study tests 27 hypotheses in order to answer two main research questions. To meet its objectives the present study uses quantitative research methodology, constructs a cross-sectional research design, and employs secondary data analysis to test the hypotheses of the research questions. A dataset was formed based on official records of Turkish National Police by including all confidential informants within eight different RAT networks in Turkey. First, individual effect of each motivation factor on being a confidential informant is tested and discussed in detail. Then two group specific multivariate models for being an informant in Al-Qaeda and Turkish-Hezbollah are illustrated, compared and contrasted. Both bivariate and multivariate statistical analyses not only revealed the extent of individual effects of motivations among RAT groups, but also helped us to build fitting multivariate models that explain the probability of being informants in certain RAT networks. By doing so, the present study aims to make contributions to the literature and practice on this relatively unexplored phenomenon. Findings indicate that while some motivation factors are common among all RAT networks, the strength and direction of their effects vary among different RAT networks.

A study on the participation rate of National Pension Insurance

Yao, Wan Chen Unknown Date (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to find out why those people covered by National Pension Insurance but do not pay insurance premium? In-depth interview method of qualitative research is applied in this study. Interview guide is drafted according to the purpose of this study. Purposive sampling is used and 15 respondents were found between March and April of 2011. The objects of this studying includes: people who live in central and north Taiwan region, and aged between 25 and 64 years. 10 and 5 respondents are from National Pension Insurance coverage group and labor insurance participants from occupational union respectively. The major issues discussed are insurance coverage object, willingness to pay insurance premium, content of insurance benefit and join National Pension Insurance with worker association participant identity. After cross analysis on the interview data, the major findings are as follows: 1.The common characteristics work for National Pension Insurance coverage object and labor insurance participants with occupational union identity are mostly atypical employment which are contingent worker, part-time worker and they are not all workless; since their job is unstable so they do have some difficulties in paying insurance premium and some of them participate in labor insurance through occupational union. 2.The major reason for the low insurance premium paying rate in central Taiwan region is inconvenient transportation. People live in here are mostly using car and motorcycle as their transportation mean and the expenses for those transportation means are a big part of their living expenses. In addition, people here are mainly no income but own real estate such as houses and lands. 3.Since students have no income so the insurance premium are all paid by their parents and those students who from low income family also have to pay student loans after they graduated from schools so the jobless ones would have a very hard time in life. 4.The respondents think there should be no interest for late payment to insurance premium and there should be supporting measures defined for couples who take premium payment duties for each other. Most of the respondents say they don’t know that the applicable object for old age pension and old age basic guarantee pension are different. Secondly, the premium paying years for National Pension Insurance are too long and its benefit is less than those of labor insurance. 5.In Central Taiwan region, there are more cases of illegal participation in Labor insurance through Occupational union who actually are jobless. According to the findings of this study, the following suggestions are proposed: 1.Students and Unemployed Insurance Premium Payment Problem Could learn from Japan and define premium deduction standard based on the family disposal income (income after adjusted from deduction) on the parents’ income, school type (private or public), household status (whether live with the parents), and the student’s income. For unemployed and students who have the capability to pay premium should use voluntary insurance participation and should not make it compulsory. 2.Some discount measured could be implemented for prepaid insurance premium; for example, prepaid 1 year premium to get 20% off and six months for 10% off to improve insurance premium payment rate. 3.Insurance premium calculation should be based on the average insurance premium of category 6 of health insurance or second generation national health insurance premium, following the example of Japan who use the level of household income to determine affordability benchmark premium in order to reduce the burden of the economically disadvantaged. 4.Remove the accrued interest from late payment; follow through on the obligation of spouse to be responsible for their insurance premium and use the principle of proportionality to set penalties based on their annual income or revenue. Higher income should pay higher fine to improve the “Robin Hood effect”, vertical income redistribution function, which has not be implemented in the system currently. Victims of domestic violence should be waived from the fines associated with regulation for the late payment of their spouse; the administration could cross check with the police authorities or the domestic violence data in National Police Agency to verify. 5.Most of the respondents have no confidence on the Government’s financial future or they think they can receive $3,000 of old age pension at the age of 65 if they do not pay the premium. In order to improve people’s willingness to pay insurance premium, the government could separate the insurance premium usage and the applicable object between old age pension payment and old age basic guarantee pension. If people do not pay the insurance premium, they would not be able to receive the 3,000 old age pension at the age of 65 when insurance expires; and put this point as the focus of policy advocacy to strengthen the relationship between paying insurance premium and enjoy the rights. 6.Looking into future, National Pension System could learn from the labor insurance to develop relief loan scheme. If the people have no overdue insurance premium with more than one year of insurance coverage, they could apply for relief loans to ease the life obstacles accrued on the object of National Pension Insurance. 7.For the illegal participation of labor insurance problem with occupational union, the government should take central and south Taiwan as the key checking regions.

Projektmedlemmarnas uppfattning om den psykosociala arbetsmiljön i projektorienterat arbete : En kvantitativ fallstudie om mellanmänskliga processer på ett tjänstemannaföretag / Project members´ view on the psychosocial work environment in project-oriented work

Zatloukalova, Lenka, Saastad, Thomas January 2011 (has links)
This thesis has been performed in a small company in Stockholm called Projekt AB. The company is a qualified project management company that works with all types of construction projects regardless of the complexity and size. The company was founded in 1993 and is today one of the leading project management companies in the Stockholm area. The background of this thesis was the fact that the company wanted to describe the psychosocial work environment from project members´ point of view. The purpose of this study is to provide and increase knowledge and understanding on the theme of psychosocial work environment by examining the psychosocial work environment among members of different projects in Projekt AB. The target group of this thesis is the client i.e. company´s management. The complexity of the psychosocial work environment is great and to obtain an accurate picture of the psychosocial work environment we intend to focus on the mental work demands, social support, conflicts, leadership, communication, self-control, learning, and motivation. We have chosen to write this study with the use of a quantitative approach. We have sent a survey to all project members in Projekt AB. In the questionnaire, we have asked about the key issues linked to the field of the psychosocial work environment. The result of the survey and the analysis of the data are presented in this thesis. The essay describes how the project members experience the psychosocial work environment in Projekt AB. Main outcomes from this thesis will provide an integrated basis for the company´s chiefs to develop their psychosocial work environment in the project activity in a favorable way, from both employee´s and business´ point of view. The result of our case study showed a high level of job satisfaction among project members. The study showed that the project members are quite satisfied with their psychosocial work environment in Projekt AB even thou they at the same time consider that they have too much to do. There is a number of possible areas for improvement, which is better feedback, improved learning in general, increased transfer of experience and involvement of project members, reduced work rate and increased social contacts. Based on the outcome of this case study, the company may discuss possible actions and changes that could contribute to better psychosocial work environment. A formal forum for the transfer of experience and both positive and negative feedback given more frequently both within the project group and between project members and project leader are the most important actions that the company should focus on in their work with the work environment.

Mládež a její morálka ve vztahu k současné společnosti / The Youth and their Moral Attitude to the Current Society

PAREISOVÁ, Lenka January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deals with the moral thinking of youth in its adolescent age. The first part deals with the basic ethic terms and with historical development of ethic thinking. The thesis deals further with determinants, which influence the moral development of thinking of a man including primary and secondary socialisation and the influence of a state. The theoretical part ends with a chapter dealing with the psychological aspects of development of moral judgement, where are described the particular stages of moral development according to Lawrence Kohlberg. The practical part deals with the research in a given group according to Kohlberg. The research is made with regard to family background of an individual. Except for reactions to Heinz´s dilemma, there are researched the differences between moral attitudes of men and women and the differences between individuals coming from villages or cities. The aim of this thesis is to judge, if it is possible from the stage of a moral judgement of the researched adoloscents, judge a relation according to the context of their experience in the family. The research showed some influences to moral thinking of a man, but it is not possible to determine the convincing conclusions. The man is to complicated human being, whose moral quality shows the concrete and practical situation only.

Självtranscendens : upplevelse, utveckling och psykologiska förändringar / Selftranscendence : experience, development and psychological changes

Friman, Henrik January 2014 (has links)

Guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance self-actualisation of retired people

Kerr, Pamela Pearl 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this research is to develop guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance the self-actualisation of retired people. To do this, an investigation was undertaken to determine how to enhance self-actualisation during retirement, through an understanding of the: • phenomenon of retirement; • concept of self-actualisation; • challenges that hamper adjustment and self-actualisation during retirement; • factors which assist retirees in overcoming challenges and achieving self-actualisation; and • the role of psycho-educational programmes in enhancing self-actualisation during retirement. The literature study sought to promote such an understanding through the investigation of writings and research findings. The qualitative investigation attempted to provide a contextual understanding of the above, through an exploration of the retirement experiences of a selected group of retirees living in George (and surrounding area), South Africa. The findings served as the basis for guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance the self-actualisation of retired people. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. (Guidance and Counselling)
