Estetiska lärprocesser i svenskundervisningen : En empirisk studie utifrån ett lärarperspektiv / Working with aesthetic learning processes in Swedish language teaching. : An empirical study from a teacher perspective.

Nevrup, Amelie, Watanen, Sofia January 2022 (has links)

Isaksson, Björn January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how civics teachers at upper secondary schools motivate educational content in a subject didactic manner within their teachings for sustainable development. The study used a qualitative research method with a theory-driven approach. The two theories in question are street-level bureaucracy theory and Shulman’s knowledge theory. The data collection method was conducted through semi-structured individual interviews, and the data was then subsequently subjected to a thematic analysis. The study limited its data collection to the counties of Norrbotten and Västerbotten, Sweden. In total, five schools and seven teachers participated. The results of the study showed that the educational content chosen by civics teachers was diverse, including but not limited to topics such as food prices and mining in the northern parts of Sweden or a decision related to a sustainable transition of transportation. Contemporary world events often were at the center of the teachers’ educational content selection, though historical events were also featured. The teachers’ reasoning for their choices of educational content exhibited varying degrees of complexity, but the selected content could often be connected to different course modules such as personal finance or globalisation. The teachers’ reasonings behind their choices of educational content included statements that it was to provide students with an understanding of the underlying factors for the sustainable transition of society. Furthermore, the teachers also explained that their choice of content addressed things that result in socio-economic and environmental impacts on the students’ quality of life within society. In conclusion, the teachers’ teachings typically incorporated all three dimensions of sustainable development, although exceptions did occur. The degree to which the three dimensions were integrated into the teachers’ classroom sessions varied depending on how teachers had interpreted the policy documents regarding how they were supposed to work with sustainable development in different courses. Regardless of the course, the social sustainability dimension predominated.

Lärares perspektiv på studiebesök och gästundervisning inom samhällskunskapsundervisningen : Möjligheter och utmaningar / Teachers’ perspectives on study visits and guest education within social studies education : Opportunities and challenges

Falk, Ellinor January 2024 (has links)
One of the main purposes with the subject of social studies is, according to The Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket), to foster future democratically active citizens and one way to achieve this is to use study visits and bring guests to the social studies education. The purpose of this study was therefore to research teachers’ opportunities and challenges to organize and conducting study visits and guest education. The study was based on three research questions which were related to the types of study visits teachers carried out and what kinds of guests they invite to the classroom and the purpose of these visits, factors that can hinder or in other ways affect study visits and guest education and how teachers perceive students’ attitudes and behaviour during study visits and guest education and their knowledge acquisition in social studies. Eight social studies teachers working at lower and upper secondary schools in Sweden were interviewed though semi-structured interviews. The results showed that the teachers organize study visits and guest education with several purposes and that study visits to the local courthouse, the Swedish Riksdag, local businesses and to the local municipal council were common. Common types of guest education included visits from governmental authorities or other organizations, businesses, and politicians. The results also showed that the teachers were largely affected by factors such as time and school funding to organize study visits and guest education but also by factors such as logistics, lack of control and the pandemic. The teachers believe that students can learn a great deal through study visits and guest education as they have the opportunity to see things first hand, but also that students have a varied ability to ask questions during these occasions and may behave in a non-desirable manner. The discussion section includes result comparisons to previous research and suggestions for future research.

Lärares erfarenheter av heldigitala läromedel : Arbetsprocesser i den dynamiska klassrumskontexten / Teachers' experiences of collaborative Digital Textbooks : Work processes in the dynamic classroom context

Viklund, Mariell January 2024 (has links)
Fully digital educational materials, collaborative Digital Textbooks (cDTB), are common in the Swedish educational materials market. This study examines, from the teachers' point of view, the advantages and challenges of cDTB, and the decision-making process of teachers regarding the selection of educational materials was analysed. Six teachers in Swedish compulsory school grades 7 – 9 were interviewed, and the results show that the teachers' integration of cDTB into their teaching is value-driven and embedded in a dynamic system. The cDTB are considered to have many advantages, and at the same time, during the work process, challenges have been encountered that have required various types of decisions. These decisions have often resulted in the use of other digital teaching and learning materials and printed textbooks as a supplement to the cDTB. The use of the cDTB, however, may change over time and look different depending on what the teacher perceives as possible in a specific classroom context. The main conclusion of the study is therefore that the value of the technology use in relation to the teaching goal is primary for the teacher, while the product of the technology use, i.e., the extent to which the cDTB is used, is secondary.

Samtyckesundervisning i biologi och naturkunskap : Lärares uppfattningar, anpassningar och utmaningar i ljuset av läroplansförändringar / Consent teaching in biology and natural science : Teachers’ perceptions, adaptions, and challenges in the light of curriculum changes

Lindkvist, Jacqueline January 2024 (has links)
Knowledge about the importance of consent is crucial regarding several aspects. Previous studies demonstrate the need for extended discussion platforms for consent and that school plays a large role in conveying information about the area. It is also noted that this type of teaching is deficient. To emphasize the importance of consent, curriculum revisions were introduced in July 2022, which clearly focus attention on consent teaching.  This study investigates the implementation of the new curriculum changes regarding the area Sexuality, consent, and relations in biology- and natural science teaching at the secondary and upper secondary school levels. The focus is on the insertion of a clearer framework for consent teaching. The purpose of this study is to enhance understanding of teachers’ efforts and challenges in consent teaching within the subjects of biology and natural science. To investigate the purpose of the study, qualitative interviews with seven qualified biology- and natural science teachers, both from secondary and high school levels, were carried out.  From the results of the study, a clear discrepancy was identified between positive attitudes towards the changes and the actual implementation identified. The results revealed obstacles, such as limited theoretical support and professional development, to realizing pedagogical changes. In terms of teaching methods, the teachers conduct teaching that mainly resolves around discussions, which is in line with the research’s implications of good consent teaching. On the other hand, there is a lack of continuous conversations and interdisciplinary work. The study therefore emphasizes the importance of involving teachers from various subjects to ensure holistic teaching. Finally, the findings highlight a particular challenge of engaging young men in consent education, requiring strategies to include their perspectives and make them understand the meaning of consent. The conclusions highlight the need that it is insufficient to introduce new guidelines without providing support for their implementation. Additionally, there is a requirement for continued research on gender differences and consent education.

The relationship of instructional supervision and professional learning communities as catalysts for authentic professional growth : a study of one school division

Burant, Scott E 22 September 2009
There has been a shift in education as the focus has moved from the centrality of teaching to the importance of learning (Aseltine, Judith, & Rigazio-DiGilio, 2006). The enhancement of educational experiences and learning of students is a goal shared by instructional supervision (Nolan & Hoover, 2004) and professional learning communities (DuFour & DuFour, 2003). As the need for professional development activities, such as instructional supervision and professional learning communities, to support professional growth continues, how these activities are implemented within a school division remains a critical concern.<p> The purpose of the study was to investigate the links between professional learning communities and instructional supervisory practice as catalysts for authentic professional growth. The result of this study suggests that a zone of authentic professional growth occurs when the activities of professional learning communities and instructional supervision as activities of professional development and reflective practice are aligned. In an era of greater accountability in education school divisions have attempted to support their professional staff with limited resources. Connecting activities to support the goals of the school division, such as professional growth and student learning, is one means of maximizing the use of the resources. There has been considerable research into instructional supervision and professional learning communities however little has been done regarding the connection and implications of these professional activities on each other.<p> The research questions of the study focused on gathering the level of agreement of teachers and in-school administrators regarding qualities of effective instructional supervision and successful professional learning communities. An additional research question focused on what were the criteria of successful professional learning communities that related to effective instructional supervisory practice.<p> The study used mixed research methodology to collect information about one school division. A survey was utilized to collect the perceptions of teachers and in-school administrators regarding successful professional learning communities and effective instructional supervision. The data collected from the survey was analyzed by two interpretation panels, one consisting of teachers and the other consisting of in-school administrators. From the analysis provided by the panels and the survey data collected, it was found that from the perceptions of teachers and in-school administrators in one school system, professional learning communities can contain specific qualities that support effective instructional supervision. The combination of these two professional activities can become a catalyst for authentic professional growth for teachers and in-school administrators.<p> The findings of the study highlights the eight preconditions necessary for an environment or zone of authentic professional growth through the use of professional learning communities to support instructional supervision. Implications, based on key findings, of the study include the need to manage time effectively, and to provide sufficient resources to support instructional supervision through professional learning communities. The school system also needs to develop a culture in which there exists a common understanding of instructional supervision and professional learning communities. It was found that ownership and shared leadership are vital to creating an environment which can embrace the collaborative culture necessary for successful professional learning communities and effective instructional supervision.

En studie om lärarens perspektiv och undervisning i hållbar utveckling / A study of the teacher´s perspective and teaching sustainable development

Taher, Tara January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to examine high school teachers' teaching methodologies when they teach and about sustainable development in the subject Technology. The study describes how teaching in sustainable development is conducted and different teaching methods are presented. Whether the teacher teaches about sustainable development from governing documents and the global goals can vary based on the teacher's educationand competence, experience, holistic understanding, space and time in the syllabus, etc. As a basis for this study, seven randomly selected qualified teachers oftechnology at upper secondary schools in Stockholm. In the analysis part, it appeared that the teachers carry out their teaching in Sustainable Development in a varied way: discussions in whole-class teaching to practical elements in the form of project work. The survey presents an overall perspective of the teachers' chosen teaching methods. One of the most important positions for teachers was to give students the opportunity to connect with nature and the world around them to build an understanding of sustainable development and take a stand on current issues around sustainable society.
