Untersuchung von Eichfeldtheorien in Termen von lokalen eichinvarianten Größen

Rudolph, Michael 12 November 1998 (has links)
Within the thesis a new procedure, called "reduction of the functional integral", is developed for formulating quantum field theories in terms of gauge invariant quantities (physical observable fields). It provides a new way for the construction and analysis of effective field theoretical models. Starting with a detailed mathematical analysis of the algebra of Grassmann--algebra valued gauge invariants, the procedure is applied to the two--dimensional Thirring--model, the four--dimensional spinor QED and the one--flavor QCD in four dimensions. For each of these three models an effective theory of interacting bosonic gauge invariant fields was deduced on the quantum level. Apart from this more theoretical considerations, first steps on the way to an analysis of the obtained effective models towards their application in various physical problems are performed. In the case of the two Abelian models a new approach to the bosonisation scheme and the calculation of the chiral anomaly in two and four dimensions were obtained, giving some deeper insight into the nature of the bosonisation phenomenon as well as the nature of anomalies, respectively. Moreover, the investigation of current--current expectation values shows that the suggested procedure can be viewed as a new way towards a non--perturbative formulation and understanding of quantum field theories.

The Round : An Observational Study of Ward 4 at Norrtälje Hospital / Ronden : Emn observationsstudie av avdelning 4 på Norrtälje Sjukhus

Löfberg, Oskar, Krajewski, August January 2018 (has links)
Healthcare is generally characterized by deep traditions, old working methods, and clear hierarchies. A central part of medical wards is the so-called “round”. During the round, physicians and nurses visit the patients and decide on further action. The round is a central process at wards and affect the rest of the working day, both for physicians and nurses. In this study, the round process was observed at Ward 4 at Norrtälje Hospital. The staff at Ward 4 experienced high-stress levels and this was related to an ineffective round according to a prestudy conducted by Clinical Innovation Fellowships. The project aimed at producing a new optimized round routine that would reduce the high-stress levels. The study was conducted through observations, dialogue with staff, interviews, surveys, comparative observations at other wards at Norrtälje Hospital and other hospitals as well as theoretical studies. The main difficulties discovered in our study with the round process at Norrtälje Hospital were that (i) information was communicated dual, (ii) the round process was too time-consuming, (iii) late decision-making, (iv) inefficient role for nurses and the (v) priority of work. The study resulted in a recommendation of a new round routine in which we have taken the staff’s interests into account as well as literature and research within the field of how developing healthcare processes. Our target was to increase communication and collaboration between physicians and nurses and furthermore exploiting human resources in the best possible way. Our main recommendation was to introduce a seated pre-round prior to commencing the daily round routine and to introduce a reconciliation meeting afterwards.

The Work of Art: Honoring the Overlooked in Northeastern American Nature Poetry of the Long Nineteenth Century

Pollak, Zoë Elena January 2024 (has links)
This dissertation works against the longstanding literary critical premise that aesthetics and ethics are at odds. I challenge this notion by foregrounding the verse of four nineteenth-century-born and Northeastern-based poets who unapologetically prioritize aesthetic perception and experience in their writing. These poets—Frederick Goddard Tuckerman, Emily Dickinson, Olivia Ward Bush, and William Stanley Braithwaite—were well aware of the criticism politicians, social reformers, educators, business proponents, and even other writers leveled against the functional and ethical utility of poetry in an era when transatlantic industrial revolutions and innovations in manufacturing and transportation technology contributed to a national ethos that celebrated progress and productivity in the most concrete terms. These developments, coupled with moral and political divisions over slavery and the economic and psychic strain of a nationwide war that brought life’s precariousness into relief, spurred citizens to contemplate their sense of purpose in contexts ranging from the vocational to the existential. Writers and poets in particular faced continual pressures to defend the practical value of their work. What makes the four poets in this dissertation unparalleled, I suggest, is the way they challenge readers to revise and expand their understanding of the aesthetic by devoting poetic attention to unsettling and unsightly products and processes in the natural world. Moldering plant matter, heaps of manure, broom-ravaged spiderwebs, and fragments of driftwood; the kinds of waste and remains normally deemed indecorous for nineteenth-century verse become vibrant and arresting in the work of these poets. Yet while each poet approaches humble and neglected phenomena as worthy of aesthetic treatment, they do so without idealizing the unpalatable and disregarded subjects they portray in verse. The attention they devote to the abject—a witnessing they extrapolate from literal to human nature—is, as I show over the course of this dissertation, an ethical and political act. In addition to upholding the unsettling and unglamorous qualities of the natural subjects they honor, these poets also abstain from sentimentalizing the elements of lived experience that inform their writing, and refuse to downplay the often demanding process of poetic composition itself. While this dissertation’s insistence on regarding aspects of nature that nineteenth-century poetry has traditionally neglected is, in part, an ecocritical intervention, my project is also a call to dignify the artistic labors that reframe overlooked natural phenomena as worthy of aesthetic attention. To portray writing as work is to regard the craft as just as substantial and legitimate a pursuit as occupations whose effects are more straightforwardly measurable in practical terms. Indeed, each poet in this dissertation insists upon depicting poetic making as a labor that requires the same dexterity as the construction of an architectural structure and that has as dramatic and far-reaching effects as military and legislative developments. Far from posing an escapist diversion from the social and civic realities of their day, I argue, these poets frame aesthetic creation and experience as fundamental to human nature, especially during wartime and periods of political upheaval.

Renormalization of Gauge Theories and Gravity

Prinz, David Nicolas 22 November 2022 (has links)
We study the perturbative quantization of gauge theories and gravity. Our investigations start with the geometry of spacetimes and particle fields. Then we discuss the various Lagrange densities of (effective) Quantum General Relativity coupled to the Standard Model. In addition, we study the corresponding BRST double complex of diffeomorphisms and gauge transformations. Next we apply Connes--Kreimer renormalization theory to the perturbative Feynman graph expansion: In this framework subdivergences are organized via the coproduct of a Hopf algebra and the renormalization operation is described as an algebraic Birkhoff decomposition. To this end, we generalize and improve known coproduct identities and a theorem of van Suijlekom (2007) that relates (generalized) gauge symmetries to Hopf ideals. In particular, our generalization applies to gravity, as was suggested by Kreimer (2008). In addition, our results are applicable to theories with multiple vertex residues, coupling constants and such with a transversal structure. Additionally, we also provide criteria for the compatibility of these Hopf ideals with Feynman rules and the chosen renormalization scheme. We proceed by calculating the corresponding gravity-matter Feynman rules for any valence and with a general gauge parameter. Then we display all propagator and three-valent vertex Feynman rules and calculate the respective cancellation identities. Finally, we propose planned follow-up projects: This includes a generalization of Wigner's classification of elementary particles to linearized gravity, the representation of cancellation identities via Feynman graph cohomology and an investigation on the equivalence of different definitions for the graviton field. In particular, we argue that the appropriate setup to study perturbative BRST cohomology is a differential-graded Hopf algebra.

A nursing science perspective on the role of the unit sister in teaching student nurses in Kwazulu hospitals

Mhlongo, Claret Siduduzekile 12 1900 (has links)
This study deals with the role of the unit sister in teaching student nurses in KwaZulu hospitals. The aim of the study was to identify the extent of her involvement in managing the unit to ensure clinical teaching and her involvement in the clinical teaching process. The role theory and the clinical teaching process formed the conceptual framework. Data was collected from sisters in charge of units by means of a questionnaire. The results of the study indicated that:- unit sisters regard good management of the unit as essential for effective clinical teaching. unit sisters regard clinical teaching as one of their important roles and functions as they said they were involved in all activities of the clinical teaching process however the responses were confined to what the unit sisters said they do which might not be what they actually do / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing Science)

Contribution of unit managers in the training of student nurses in the Cape Peninsula

Guwa, Sybil Nolundi 06 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of unit managers towards the training of student nurses coming to their units for clinical practica. The sample consisted of students training in the four nursing colleges in the Cape Peninsula, and unit managers working in health services accommodating students for clinical practica in the same area. The findings revealed that the majority of unit managers were teaching students whenever they had the opportunity. Generally unit managers were prepared for their teaching function, but many students were not satisfied with some clinical learning opportunities presented to them, for example drawing up patients' care plans, discussing patients' treatment plans when handing over report, giving assistance regarding patient care decisions and lending support when students are confronted with patient care problems. There appears to be a need to educate unit managers regarding these and other aspects of the students' training programme. / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing Science)

The role of the enrolled nursing auxiliary in a selected health care administration

Mabunda, Edith Tiyani 01 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of nursing auxiliaries towards health care services against their scope of practice. Nursing auxiliaries practising within the Elim, Letaba, Malamulele, Nkhensani, Shiluvana and Tintswalo hospitals in the Gazankulu Health Administration, in the Northern Transvaal Province, constituted the target population. The findings revealed that nursing auxiliaries are not functioning strictly according to their scope of practice. They are an essential component of nursing services in Gazankulu by rendering a major contribution towards health care services in fulfilling their scope of practice-role. Apart from their prescribed practice-role, they are also engaged in activities that should be performed by enrolled and professional nurses as well as doctors and general assistants. There appears to be a need for education for all categories of nursing staff regarding the scope of practice of nursing auxiliaries for improving the effective utilisation of this category of nursing personnel / M.A. (Nursing Science) / Health Studies

The impact of economic liberalisation on the spatial patterns of peasant crop farming in Zambia since 1991 : the case of Chibombo District in central Zambia

Malambo, Augrey Hicigaali 30 November 1999 (has links)
This is a comparative study of the spatial patterns of peasant crop farming in Chibombo District between the 1980s and the 1990s. The study lists and discusses the agricultural support system, communication infrastructure and the crop production and patterns of the 1980s within the environment of centralised planning and then compares these to the structures and patterns of the 1990s in an atmosphere of economic liberalisation. This comparison in crop production, cropping patterns, institutional support systems and the communication infrastructure in five sampled farming wards of Chibombo District, leads to the conclusion that there is a marked change in the structures and patterns of the 1990s from those of the 1980s. Thus, in Chibombo District, the state of the communication infrastructure in the 1990s is generally poorer than the communication infrastructure of the 1980s, the agricultural support system of the 1990s is largely privately owned and found in fewer farming areas while the agricultural support system of the 1980s was state controlled and more widely spread, and crop patterns in some farming wards are different in the 1990s from those of the 1980s. In the 1990s, crop production in farming wards with a supportive environment has increased than it was in the 1980s but decreased in those where a conducive environment lacks. In this line, the study makes several recommendations for consideration on how to mitigate the problems that the peasant farmers are facing or how to enhance the positive changes that have occurred in Chibombo District. / Geography / M.A. (Geography)
